For a few years around the turn of the century, Julia Stiles was one of the biggest names in Hollywood, particularly in the teen movie circuit. Her role in the 1999 film, 10 Things I Hate About You, made her a household name, and she followed it with a string of successful flicks, including a recurring role as Nicolette “Nicky” Parsons in the popular Jason Bourne franchise of action thrillers.
These days, however, Stiles hasn’t been getting the lead roles she once was, leading many who grew up with her movies to wonder what happened. Let’s take a look at why Hollywood hasn’t been casting Julia Stiles as much recently.

Yes, perhaps she would not get on the "casting couch" as so many others have also, I wonder about that, many talented actors and actresses have far shorter careers than they seem bound for. Perhaps their refusal to be chattel for influential perverts is part of that "problem"?

Heath Ledger would never have been considered weird or overrated pre Dark Knight. That film and his performance just amplified his legacy. He was talented in other roles though.

Did it ever occur to you guys that those films failed because they had shitty scripts? Or they weren't properly promoted? How is Stiles single handedly responsible for the failure of a movie with dozens of people involved in it? And Mona Lisa smile was a great movie. Perhaps it is less interesting if you aren't into art but I thought it was a great movie.

She is fantastic. She fills generation- X people with nostalgia and good feelings. I love seeing her on screen. She was the perfect person to be in the Bourne movies. She has great charm and charisma. A classically trained actress that should be doing more.

Absolutely love Julia Stiles!! She stands alone in her style, mannerisms, and facial expressions, which greatly add to the talent she brings to her roles. Really hoping she gets a well-break before too long!!!

Personally I have a soft spot for Julia Stiles. And I will go to anything that she is in. I think her advantage is she brings the Personna of a real person to the screen. Making the parts she plays in very believable

I think Nicki Swift is being extremely mean here. Hollywood is a sexist industry that focuses on youth. Notice the bell Jar is going to star Dakota Fanning a much younger woman. Julia is trying and to dismiss the fact she starred in the bourne movies and Dexter is bullshit. Stop being so mean.

I think she is quite underrated actually. She just needs more definitive roles like earlier on in her career, but I actually don’t mind her being in the shadows either. I like underdogs. She’ll probably come up with a good leading role in the future, hopefully get nominated for an award and get more roles again.

Julia Stiles is talented and I like her very much. Many of the movies she has been in, however, failed due to poor writing, production, and/or marketing. Movies are the ultimate collaborative effort. Their success or failure are usually due to many factors. The lead actors wrongly get blame or credit.

And yet she's a talented actress as she showed in Dexter. I think in Stiles' case "Hollywood not casting anymore" probably boils down to her making choices that aren't based on box office receipts. Can audiences honestly say that box office blockbusters = great acting or great plots? They don't. They're like fast food - designed to appeal to as many people as possible in as short a time as possible. For every Beyonce and Jennifer Lawrence (who I like) there's a Jennifer Hudson and Julia Stiles making choices that aren't solely based on making money.

More like, if you are a woman and you're not smart you will believe the lies that you are "amazing" if you're merely mediocre until you hit the "wall" that more than likely got you the roles to begin with. That wall is called attractiveness. Please form a personality and a craft ladies. Sex is boring and dies without character. ***** Well joke or not a sequel to something like this without Heath Ledger is still a tough sell to audience. I understand that it was a joke but sequel with a whole new cast generally don't do well with audiences who are fans of the original. The Ten things TV show is a great example of that if anyone remembers that. But I can be wrong, however this is all just a what if sinario.

the truth is most actors are lucky to be stars for even a short time, there are way too many actors becoming the 'it' star of the moment and when you are getting older there isn't much parts. trying to find reasons for their disappearance is redundant bc hollywood is a huge gamble anyways.

I remember seeing her a lot when I was 12 back in 2001. Now I’m seeing more her thanks to the streaming services. She has the early 2000s nostalgia vibe I love it.

I don't keep a very close watch on her work, but I do remember her being really big during my teen years .... which were also her teen years. She was actually born exactly 1 day after me.

Just finished the prince and me and honestly I loved it. I was about to be so frustrated that her aspirations would just become a thing of the past, but they actually showed that her dreams for her future are just as important. Personally, I thought it was a very well done movie.

I met Julia in a Trader Joe's Store once...she initiated the conversation, too. What a truly genuinely down to earth person with a lot going for her...She is America's #1 Sweetheart for sure!!!

Movies get big because the actors in it looked great. That's unfortunate, but that's what wins fans, awards, etc. She looked amazing in 10 Things I Hate About You, but in more recent films, she hasn't looked that great. People overlook good actors if they're not aging that well. She's only 35, but she doesn't have that gorgeous, doll-like look she had in her early days.

I’m watching Riviera on Amazon Prime, in which Julia is the lead. She is brilliant in it! I admire her talent and her integrity when it comes to picking roles.

I thought that the end of Dexter, when he was sitting in the diner alone in the lumberjack get up, the camera would have panned out, and Lumen would be there. That would have been so awesome.

Julia Stiles has been in a movie every year except 2018 since she started making movies. And she’s wrapping on a movie now and she’s on a tv show. I think she’s still being cast. We should all be so “unsuccessful.”

Box office bombs can't be laid at her feet. No one has ever "opened" movie with Julia Stiles as the "bankable" crowd pleaser. It sounds more like she needed to change her agent a long time ago who could create buzz about her to work with better material and probably better production and directing talent. There are so many variables that go into making a "blockbuster" but laying it Stiles feet isn't the reason.

She was terrific in "Silver Linings Playbook" and definitely has the gravitas for action films as seen in Jason Bourne. Bummed her realization of "The Bell Jar" won't come to life though

She's been hooked on The Bell Jar since 10 Things I Hate About You! Does anyone remember her reading that book at a certain segment of the movie? Good for her if she wants, or could have, turned it into a reality on-screen. She's successful, and hopefully hasn't been forgotten yet of her deceased character in the Bourne series.

I don't understand why she isn't in more films and series. She is a great actress and is absolutely beautiful. I loved her in Dexter and she nailed that part. Seeing her in anything makes me want to watch it more. I guess I can just relate to how she portrays her characters, or maybe its because I have had a crush on her for a long time. Hell don't we all have a crush on someone. ;-)

my friends & I use to see her around NYC when she attended Columbia - we always joked that she looked like a white female version of Wayne Brady but all jokes aside she is a phenomenal actress and growing up I thought she would be our Merly Streep or Glenn Close....I think her time will come around again- shes not done.

Ermmm...wasn't she just in the new Jason Bourne film....she's also currently filming the comedy film "Trouble' and filming a new series called 'Riviera'....I don't think she's losing any sleep over ' not being cast anymore'......
