My wife has a 450 DPS. We’ve gone riding in Montana and a couple of places in TN and GA. The CanAm has done everything we asked of it. I am a big guy (6’3”, 295) and it carries me up mountains with relative ease. We are going to Ouray CO this summer and I look forward to seeing how it performs up to 12000 ft.

I've owned 5 quads. Two Yamaha quads, two Polaris quads, and an Artic Cat. The Yamahas and one of the polaris quads I had were pretty reliable. The Artic Cat I pretty much fixed it and flipped it. I rode it for a little bit, but it was way too slow for my taste. Now I'm looking at an older Can Am Outlander 650 xt. I know someone who has a Can Am Maverick x3 and it didn't seem to have any issues, but their Polaris rzr xp was an absolute pile of crap. It constantly blew drive belts, and one time it just completely died on the trail. I'm not really a fan of the newer polaris products, but the older 500 machines were pretty well made. I'm looking forward to give Can Am a try.

I went to “bert’s mega mall”, because I saw a 2016 white honda rancher on their website. I ended up getting a 2016 can am outlander L 570, because I couldn’t afford the rancher. I love my outlander L now though. I used to put my outlander L on a “u-haul trailer”, because I used to drive an SUV. I just got a pick-up truck last year though, so now we put it on the pick-up truck. I hope that I can get to use my outlander L soon. I can’t wait to ride it at “the san gabriel canyon OHV area” here in California. I hate life. “Medical aid in dying” for the “terminally ill” in a hospice.

I really liked the can am. I wouldnt have gotten a massive engine on one. I found my 750 with a little damage brand new to a fender so I gobbled it up when it was less than a can am or king quad 500. I was looking in the 500 range. It would have been plenty, but the extra the 750 has is awesome. I'm wondering how reliability will be on the 570 and lower engines on the can am. The more power the more stuff breaks. Suzuki is pretty reliable along with Honda of course. I do like the orange looking color.

My grizzly XTR gets 220 kms to a Tank of fuel . Yamaha power steering is the best on the market , I have owned 5 can ams . Two hand brakes are a necessity . Shifter needs to be on the left , it's quicker in tight situations and snow plowing . And Yamaha and Suzuki shift way smoother . They are cheaper for a reason . Great review , you are a well spoken person . Thank you .

Thanks for your thoughts. Yamaha makes an awesome ATV, no doubt. I do like both Can-Am and Yamaha EPS. I like the fuel tank in the rear and the suspension on the Can-Am, plus the addition of the Max (2-up) models. I think if Yamaha made more than just 2 engine sizes it would definitely help their business and the market as a whole. Competition makes everyone better!

Good video. Like another KZfaqr said it’s better to ride then not to ride. The difference in mileage from the 450-650 in can am is very little. 850 and up oh the mileage changes a lot. The gas gauge on my outlanders are not the most reliable. Depending on the riding you do the 450 is a good way to go but it’s not for mudding. The power is a really good option we use ours all the time depending on where we ride. The higher models have better headlights that is one thing I would change on yours. Good video. Can’t wait to see it on the trail.
@TrailPass
@TrailPass 4 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! We do a lot of woods riding where top speed is limited and handling is much more important, so the 450 does well. What lights would you recommend?
@blaynemacpherson8519
@blaynemacpherson8519 4 жыл бұрын
Bandit Off-road Honestly I have the HD factory light on both of my quads and I like them. Another KZfaqr that’s doing a build put these lights on and they do look very bright. Neutrino LED Lights. We went to a rally one time and we got lost at the rally we never got back from the rally until it was dark. We were suppose to be back with the sun still up. We rode 11 hours my wife and I on a max and we are bigger people. We went through about 30 litres of fuel. We went through a lot of mud and got sick about 3 times. But I was glad we had bright light on the quad on our way back. It’s one of those not expected to get lost but did and we were prepared with extra stuff to get out of situations. Tow ropes, compressor, extra water, food, one guy blew a belt. Expect the unexpected when you ride. Happy trails.

For reference, my 2019 Yamaha Grizzly 700 gets around 100 miles per tank with moderate driving. I do drive aggressive at times but just in short spurts. Most of our riding is just slow mountain trail riding like you do. My wife has a 2018 Polaris Sportsman 850 SP and it gets around 80-100 miles per tank depending on how you drive it. Not sure how much each tank holds, I've never paid attention to it lol.

@TrailPass
@TrailPass 5 жыл бұрын
This is kinda a hard thing to explain. For me it is a nice balance between not- scary and fun. Again I'm not a big guy but I can grab a fist full of throttle and slide it through turns. It feels in the same league as the Sportsman 570 that we have. I know that if you would move to a Canam 570 (or beyond) with the V-twin Rotax it would obviously have more torque but this 450 feels like plenty. A Yamaha 700 is probably the torquiest single but it feels kinda old/heavy/not-nimble compared to the smaller, lighter ATVs like the 450 and 570 from Polaris and Canam. From my research Canam gets the most power from a single. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Great video awsome information went down to the dealership yesterday to go buy one. When I started it up it sounded real clanky then it went away after 2 to three seconds. I then started another 450 and the same thing. It sounds like you get rocks and put it in a soda can and shake it around I then told the sales guy that it didn't sound right he said that's how they all start. Then again its the sales guy trying to make a sale. I googled 450 can am Outlander starting problems and there has been a lot of issues with it needing a new starter. Have you needed a new starter since you have had this machine?

I will caution you about looking some issues up on the forum. Many people on there are more concerned with being brand loyal fanboys than helpful and there bad experiences are secondhand account of someone misusing their machine (remember your shopping an ATV, not a submarine). I think if any brand these days was awful they would be out of business with so much other competition. Sure issues can arise occasionally, but any machine from a big name manufacturer will likely give you good service for many years if you take care of it.

Faults. I like my 450, use it for farming and hunting, Faults are Plasticine brake pads, replace with sintered pads and a LOT of heat given off the engine that tries to cook your calves, solved by putting a resistor ( I think) in the fan line so ithe fan runs on 6volts all the time but still cuts into full speed (12 volt) under load.

I actually just purchased an Outlander 570 Max to have the rear seat for my wife. The V-twin 570 definitely has more power compared to the 450 single but it's also heavier and hotter on trails. I love both machines and don't think you could go wrong. My recommendation is to ride your friends' machines to get a feel. The Outlander 450 is closer to the feel of the Sportsman 570 since they're both singles. In the long run, I would guess you'd be happier on the 570 since you have friends with that machine, however you may be intimidated by its weight and power. Hope this helps! Both are great options! There are pros and cons with the both. The engine's torque is much greater with the can-am 570 because of the vtwin, however the 570 it is heavier, less efficient, and has much more engine heat. Ultimately you're talking 38 vs 48 hp.

@@TrailPass I wonder what the MPG (or per tank) is on the 1000? How is it compared to the 450? The other thing I was curious about is, if the 570 can go nearly 70mph, and the 1000 can go nearly 80, that doesn't seem like much of a difference for so many extra cc's. So what's the point of getting a 1000cc if you're only getting +10mph?
@TrailPass
@TrailPass 3 жыл бұрын
@@Dreaklock the difference really isn't the top speed it's more about the torque. If you really plan on running larger tires or riding in deep mud that would bog the machine, you may want to look into a larger engine. For me the 570 is more than enough.
@Dreaklock
@Dreaklock 3 жыл бұрын
@@TrailPass I don't have any interest in mud. Too nasty. Most likely, at least in the beginning, I would just keep the stock tires on it. Mainly for trail riding, maybe some hunting, general packing stuff around, etc. 4x4 is a must, but I also want something really fast that I can play around with and enjoy. The Sportsman and Outlander seem like just what I'm looking for. I didn't know much about the different sizes and figured bigger must be better. But now that you mention it, fuel economy does seem concerning, because I could see myself wanting to ride for a couple hours or more at a time. I don't want to stress about making my destination (though carrying extra fuel wouldn't be an issue). Then again, I love going fast and accelerating quickly (when it's appropriate). So I'll definitely have to look into exactly what the specific differences are between the 570 - 850 - 1000. Top end may not be THAT different, but I like the sound of more torque.
