I’ve been in this hobby for 20+ years. I own everything from Rolex and Omega to Seiko, Steinhart and homages plus a gang of digital watches. For anyone that talks down to you for your greenness in this hobby, that says way more about them than it does you. Congrats on finding a new niche and for making good, honest videos. It’s refreshing-takes me back to my early days. Keep on keeping on. Lovely Steinhart.

I don't have a Rolex yet. But always viewed these homages as legal fakes. After speaking to all my friends who have rolexes. A lot of them surprising also have or had steinharts. And after hearing all of them say good things about it, I can't hate on them anymore. If Rolex owners like the watch, I can't dislike it.
@imcuriousso96163 жыл бұрын
@@archergg9226 First of all, homage is not a legal fake, but more of design that inspired by other watch from other companies. In this case, the Ocean 1 is homage of the submariner, but the submariner itself is also a homage of the Blancpain Fanthoms. I own Rolex(presidential) and Steinhart Ocean1 because the Submariner and all Rolex sport model are so hard to get(unless you r willing to overpay). So I've been wearing Ocean1 far as long as I've been on Submariner waiting list, n still never get a call. But it turn out, I'm in love Steinhart even more day by day the longer wear it and couldn't take my eye off it. Great decision I have made to save my bank account from $8k damage. Lolz...

@archergg9226 from what i hear on the internets, a lot of rolex owners like to wear Steinharts as their beater watch, makes sense. If i had a Rolex it would only be seen in special occasions. I'd keep it separate from my watch box too lol

Hey man, nothing wrong with owning a Steinhart. It's a pretty good place to start given your thoughts on smaller pieces. There's nothing to be embarrassed about at all with your thoughts on mechanical watches. I've been in collecting watches for 43yrs. It's good to see a young man just starting out. Especially in this day and age where most young people keep time with an iPhone. Welcome to the community. Keep reading forums and keep watching KZfaq videos on the subject. There are many many channels I can recommend if you would like that are very informative. Cheers Happy New Year man.

I really appreciate your honesty. Nowadays people tend to pretend they know everything, and act defending his/her position even if they realize they are wrong/partially wrong. Especially in the wristwatch culture, there are many youtubers who act in a disrespectful manner, especially in the Homage territory, which includes many Steinhart models. These kind of people tend to judge a lot people's opinions and put themselves in a pedestal just because they have the "real" watch like a Rolex Submariner, and not a Steinhart Ocean One 39. For me this is pure stupidity this whole discussion of Homages, as there are people who prefer to put their money in other things or don't even have the money to buy a Rolex. Thus, buying a watch solidly build (wherever it was built), as long it is sturdy and easy to maintain, that's the real deal! There will be many people judging you because you wear a "Homage", so keep in mind that the problem is not the Homage, the problem is this kind of people who don't know other's lives and priorities, and don't realize that people who really loves watches wear them for themselves, not caring for others, just because they find it fun and comforting whereas these people who tend to judge others by wearing homages, or even for not knowing much about watches, like you stated in your video, tend to wear watches to show off, and pretend they are better just because they paid more for a timepiece. Cheers!

the issue for me is that the steinharts are 1:1 copies. There is not a single original idea that comes out of the company. If you cant get a rolex get something else thats similar, not a carbon copy in a cheaper package. It feels kind of shady supporting a company that is essentially stealing from another. Would Steinhart even exist if it wasnt for Rolex?

Too many watch channels that you will find on KZfaq are basically a clique who all think alike and preach to the chior back and forth... Anyone apart from the clique who posts something different is ghosted and deleted... That's not a real watch channel and not a watch community... A few examples - The Time Teller, MAV-PRICK WATCH REVIEWS, It's Constipated, Bruce Williams...

I love Steinhart watches. I have a few of them because the value is so good. I started out with the Titanium 500 diver, that is my everyday watch. It was at least as nice as my Omega Sea master from the mid '90s. I bought a couple more, a bronze diver, and the Vintage Chronograph 2 (the one with the La Joux Perret movement.) I have been very happy with my Steinhart watches.

A "Moonphase" complication is a relatively useless but romantic complication that tells you the phases of the moon. As the moon gets obscured throughout the passage of time, the moon disc on the watch turns and mimics that by having a picture of the moon on the aforementioned disc slowly get obscured by a curved cut-out in the dial of the watch as the disc turns. The picture of the moon on the watch appears to slowly turn into a crescent moon as a result. A "Daytona" is the model name of a watch made by Rolex. The complication of the Rolex Daytona is it's ability to function as a chronograph. A "chronograph" is basically a stopwatch. Different chronographs could time events as long as 30 minutes, 12 hours, or 24 hours depending on the model. The Rolex Daytona could time events up to 12 hours. Welcome to the hobby! It's quite an expensive one and we have problems. Have fun!

It looks like you made a good choice. I would be curious to see how much pressure it would take to rip the band off of the case. I don't think spring bars are the strongest way of attaching a band to a case. I like the watches where the case is drilled all the way through so you can press a pin through the case to hold the band to the case and the pain would be nice and solid and super strong

I totally agree with you. Steinhart is very good bang for the buck, looks elegant and has great components. I'm tempted to get their Titanium one day, partly because I love their very modern, clean aesthetic but am also a fan of titanium as a material. Another brand I would rate as similar would be the Glycine Combat Sub, but it has a different aesthetic and is arguably less dressy. You talked about a desire to take apart a mechanical watch and look at the components. My suggestion would be to do that with a Vostok. (website is called Merinom). Their basic models are very affordable, so if you wanted to take one apart and change some of its components, then a mistake of some sort would be far less costly. Also they sell a huge variation of spare parts, and are very robust. Enjoy your Steinhart and make more videos, you're great at it !

Watch brands or models I bought include: Seiko spring drive, breitling super avenger 48mm, Orient 300m, certina chrono, H20 kalmar, Benarus moray 47mm, krypton dragonfish, revue thommen chrono, Zixen heliox supersub and a Tourby lawless. I’m pretty much all over the map from 40mm up to 48mm watches Swiss to Japanese movements 700 dollar watches up to 6 thousand dollar watches. I like al of them except maybe one. But I will say my favorite feature that I’ve come to love which only 2 of my watches the Orient and the Spring drive have is the power reserve meter. You may think of a quartz watch as a reverse of a cigarette lighter: in a lighter you provide the quartz with the mechanical impulse and it gives you electricity; in a watch, you give the quartz electricity from the battery and the quartz crystal makes the mechanical impulse. Some quartz watches need a battery replacement once every few years, some are light-powered (and have a rechargeable accu that can last for10-20 years, like Eco-Drive from Citizen) Mechanical watches usually fall in one of 2 categories: hand-wound and automatic. Then some autos can be hand-wound, some can’t. Tinkering with your watch is generally not a good idea: if you open the caseback it’s goodbye water resistance most of the times. If you value water resistance, have your watch serviced by a pro, he will replace the gasket and even test the watch for water tightness. That goes for all watches, regardless of their movement.

Do a 10 day accuracy check, no instrument, just a 10 day wear and monitor report, like this: Set it to and then compare it with the time.gov and log the advance or delay of the minute-hand and the seconds-hand, so that +5/-12 means its minute-hand on that particular day is 5 seconds ahead of the time.gov and the seconds-hand 12 seconds behind, just by eyeballing, aiming as accurately as you can, to show how those approximate numbers grow or fluctuate during the 10 days. In a separate column, log the advance or delay for the minute- and the seconds-hand since yesterday, so that +2/-4 means the minute-hand advanced 2 (more) seconds since eysterday and the seconds-hand lagged 4 seconds (further) behind since yesterday. After 10 days you can divide the total diviation by the number of days it happened over, and you get a pretty reliable average daily accuracy. By the way: good video, but (only one but) the music is about twice as loud as what would be a nice background to your voice. Either dial up your own voice or lower the volume of the music just a bit. it’s about the relative volumes. They clash almost like they do in annoying commercials on tv.

As a Rolex and Omega owner, my Steinhart (a 42mm black ceramic) is my favorite - is it the best, no but at the price it’s exceptional and I will be purchasing more.

If you take the case back off that watch you will risk damaging the gasket seal which is responsible for the water resistance. If I were you I’d buy a seiko snk or invicta Pro diver and Open one of those up, rather than compromise a perfectly good Swiss Watch as they are much more expensive too repair.

I have an Omega Speedmaster, Rolex day date, Rolex Daytona, Steinhart, Seiko, Orient, Etc. The quality is still there. If you love watches, you will love all price ranges. That's the beauty of watch collecting.

At the end of the review you should have turned into a full out snowman. I love my Steinhart watches.

There is only 2 videos on youtube on the steinhart Vintage red. I am getting one and am thinking of doing a video. Maybe keep the music low on future video. I have to run back and forth. To first turn down the volume to not rock the sleeping house. And secondly to turn it up to hear you.

I very nearly purchased a pre-owned Sea Dweller. Fully serviced, polished, pristine. Looked stunning on then I realised I was just about to spend £9000 on a 10 year old watch I would likely only wear on special occasions and only I would know it was real! One purpose of these things is how they make you feel. Anyway I put my £1000 Christopher Ward C60 pro on NATO back on and realised it looked just as impressive. I own various Swiss Made watches, mostly Christopher Ward as they are amazing quality with 3 times build cost price business model, other firms being 7 to 30 times! I went mental on an Oris Aquis chronograph but that gets real attention when worn. An Ocean One Ceramic 42 is next on my order list as I know it will do exactly what my other Swiss watches do and at a realistic price. Own a watch and enjoy it!

Oh, wow, hi. Kinda late to the party, haha. I stumbled across your channel while watching reviews and comparisons regarding Steinhart. Been at it for a few hours over the course of a couple of days already. I've always loved the Rolex Submariner/GMT design, but as things stand, I cannot afford one. I am an 18 year old dude, unemployed, soon to graduate highschool and enroll to university. I've been looking to buy a new watch for a while now within my budget (1k$ or lower). I've researched plenty of brands, including my favourite ones from this range (Tissot and Fossil, cause I got 1 of each and I'll be damned if I don't love those watches to death), but nothing really clicked with me. When I found out about Steinhart and how similar their watches look to Rolex, I was HYPED. Their Pepsi hit my sweet spot in a lot of ways: 1. People hate that the mechanism tends to go around 15 seconds a day too fast, but I LOVE that idea. I'm not the kind of guy that wants exact, precise, time telling. No, I want it to be 1, 2, maybe even 3 minutes ahead so if I ever feel like running late, I'll know I have stacked a few bonus minutes. 2. I love Rolex Submariner and GMT, but I cannot afford one, so this is a statement to myself that one day I will afford one. 3. Despite using it partially as a statement, this watch will mean more to me than just that. I will use it so that I can enjoy the design, while at an affordable price. Can't wait to get the metal strap full of small scratches that will prove my time spent with the watch. Crazy idea, haha. 4. I have no metal strap watches, so I wanted one, this seems to be the perfect one for me. Before that, I had my eyes on a Tissot Seastar 1000 (T120.407.11.041.01 specifically). I am short on money right now, I hope I'll be able to buy the watch around June or July. If I'll be able to get it in May, you have no idea how thrilled I'd be. Haha, can't wait!

The world of automatic watches is very interesting and it takes time to learn about it. It takes years to become an expert. It takes a life to enjoy automatic watches thoroughly. It's a journey and everyone makes it in different way. I have several automatic watches SKX007 among others. Movement 7S26, a legend. Entry level watch, it was my first automatic and it opened the door to all world. I am a big Omega fan and my favorite is the Speedmaster moonwatch professional, manual winding. You need to wind manually every day almost. I love microbrands, my favorites are NTH, Hemel, Magrette among others. Enjoy the trip. Buy watches you love and don't buy watches just because they are a status symbol. Be open minded guy and you will enjoy all trip.

Watched all your steinhart videos, man that watch looks good on you. If it didn't have Mercedes Hands I would have bought it yesterday. The hands style was just never my taste

Nice video. Were you really considering a Submariner? It's 10x more than the Steinhart and about 20x more than the Seiko. It seems odd to even mention the Rollex.
@Texas2406 жыл бұрын
Alex Shaykevich - at the start of the vid, he said he was not considering a Rolex.
@alexshaykevich5096 жыл бұрын
Not because of price, but because it was "too big". It's like saying you're not considering a Patek because it's too big. It was silly to even mention it, if you're looking at $500 watches.

I thought about a Maserati, but I went with a Honda because of the boot space haha
@Texas2406 жыл бұрын
Except, in a more recent video, you'll see he actually did end up with a Submariner ; ) So, maybe when you decide boot space isn't so important, you'll end up getting that Maserati.
@alexshaykevich5096 жыл бұрын
Except originally he complained about the size. It's not like there aren't sub 40mm watches in the $10k range. This was just silliness.

Unstable on the wrist, due to the CASEBACK BULGE and the HIGHER LUG-ENDS, so you end up tightening the bracelet until that BULGE SINKS INTO THE DIMPLE it forms in the skin/fat-tissue of your wrist.

If I’m not mistaken.... aren’t stienhart’s like highly respected. And there is some debate on who made that design first .
