The scratches can be polished out with a scotch brite but for me scratches is history. It proofs that you have been wearing it and using it. And the bezel insert and the crystal is not going to get scratched so easily because it is sapphire crystal and a ceramic bezel takes much more abuse than an aluminium bezel insert. Just wear it and live with the scratches.

I have the Ocean 500 premium in titanium. I wore it for 6 years at work every day. I took off the titanium band and used a NATO band. I was a breathalyzer tech and spent God knows how many hours under dashes, hoods and under cars. It has been kayaking, snorkeling, white water rafting surfing and countless showers. I was not particularly careful with it. I can say in all honesty... This is the most bullet proof watch I have ever owned. Still looks as new and I am still wearing it. It does run slightly fast but only because I haven't had it regulated yet. Zero complaints otherwise. I would highly recommend Steinhart.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don’t think the wear and tear looks anything unusual for the age of the watch. I have a Tudor Pelagos of similar age with comparable signs of wear (maybe a little more)! You are absolutely right about maybe having several watches in the collection to share the load. My Pelagos is my daily wear, my G-shock is used for DIY, exercise and gardening and my Rolex for when I fancy it. You own them to use and enjoy them.

Thanks for the feedback mate...! Completely agree with you regarding watch usage and wear. I'm exactly like you, like tough and solid watches that adapt to your lifestyle and you don't need to pay particular attention when doing everyday stuff... I'm into automatic chronographs ones and my faithful beater since I've bought it is the Victorinox Alpnach 241194. I'm wearing it when biking or when I'm on holidays at the beach and this watch is simply stunning, running like a charm with a variation of 5 sec/day. I rotate my watches in my collection for sure, but definitely give them some hard time and consider them for what they have been build, give accurate time adapting to your personal lifestyle...!

I would spend that money on a different watch such as a Glassute diver, which I have loved since I first saw it. Anyway, enjoy your watch, you have the right attitude.

That is a fine watch there. I have the same one actually. Just one thing I'd like to mention - which may save you from scratches (a bit). Don't get me wrong - this is not criticism, just an observation. Compared to how it's supposed to fit, your bracelet is a bit too long, causing you to wear the watch too far down your wrist, it's supposed to be worn on the end of the forearm rather than the wrist, "catching" on the end of your ulna and radius bones. This prevents the watch from being moved around as you bend your wrist and prevents the crown from pushing into your skin when you move your hand "outward", and makes the watch wear/look a lot nicer. Added bonus - it keeps the watch more under/protected by your shirt's cuff, protecting it from scratching on your desk. I'd suggest making the bracelet ever so slightly shorter (most likely the micro adjust will do the trick for you). I can tell you, if you wear your watch a bit further up, it is a lot more comfortable as well, staying in the same position thoughout the day.

I switched to a leather band on my diver for the same reason. Working at my desk I was scratching up my band. I don't have this watch but I think they are all pretty much the same. You either live with them, fix them every week or take your watch off when you are working at your desk. None of that sounds good to me so a leather band works great for me.
@simplyserge50006 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean sometimes I take it off but that just defeats the whole purpose so now I’ve kept it on and will live with it. Don’t plan on selling it either so might as well wear it proudly all dinged up. Could even order a new band from the manufacturer for 55 euros in 5 years or so. The leather band works too but for me I’m trying to live a more vegan lifestyle. To each their own :)

«Not stop myself from doing things» and «take care of it» are mutually exclusive, until you realize you can do most, not all, the things you did before clasping it onto your wrist, only with a different set of habitual hand movements and hand placements, all of which become automated after a while of necessarily having to consciously think about them. Then, after you either THINK about them OR more or less wreck the watch, you don’t have to «stop yourself from doing (hardly any of) the things» you used to or planned to be doing.

When I retired, I spent three months backpacking around the Far East with a ceramic Ocean 1 on my wrist. The watch is still immaculate! The bracelet hasn't a mark on it - because I mounted the watch on a NATO strap, mainly for the added security and partly so that bad people might decide that it wasn't worth stealing from me. I don't like bracelets anyway. For daily wear, it sits on a black stingray strap, which suits it perfectly.
