Why I chose Quad Lock for my Can-Am Spyder

I don’t use the Can-Am Spyder’s BRP Connect system, and I don’t put my phone in the glove box. Instead, I use a Quad Lock mount for my iPhone.
But I have a love-hate relationship with Quad Lock. I lost a phone, and destroyed another phone, using a Quad Lock mount. In this video I explain why I chose to use Quad Lock on my Can-Am Spyder despite that troubling past.
This channel chronicles my adventures as a minimalist on a 2023 Can-Am Spyder RT Limited, my only conveyance. We’ll go on a great adventures, near and far from my home base in Niagara Falls, NY, as well as jaunts to the grocery store and other mundane errands. We’ll also discuss accessories and gear for the Can-Am Spyder.
I usually wear a Tourmaster Transition 4 jacket, a Scorpion EXO-AT950 helmet, and either Klim Baja gloves or Joe Rocket Windchill gloves. I use a GoPro Hero 10 camera and a Purple Panda mic, and I edit video with iMovie with an iPad Pro.

Great information on the quad lock. I got the BRP Go app to function on day 1 on my Spyder with my android phone. I use the Sygic gps app when I need to and I use an old iPod with a jack to listen to music (eventually, the music will end up on my phone when the iPod ceases to function). The only thing mounted to my handlebars is my bottle holder. To me, it all depends on what you are comfortable with what you use and what functionalities you are looking for when you ride. I bought Tackform cellphone mounts for both of my Spyders from MotorcycleDave’s. They have the anti vibration option and a ram mount that uses one of the handlebar mounting bolts to secure it. The Tackform is great, holds very securely without chance of improper installation, requires no special dingus on the back of my phone case which doesn’t take up anymore space in my pocket. It’s very quick to mount the phone securely and just as fast to remove it. It can also handle any modern phone with or without a case.

Good video on the Quad Lock. I had an experiance where I had ordered some things from them, for some reason it shipped from Singapore, was quickly turned over from DHL to some other shipping company and from there, nothing happened. After about a month I contacted them and told them what had happened and that I had paid for 10-12 days shipping. Guess what? They sent a replacement (all 3 items), from Singpore, they credited me the shipping, and it arrived in Sweden the NEXT DAY. Excellent customer service. About grippy case. I ve got a solution for you. Use the grippy case for your fruit phone and just by the universal adaptor from quad lock. It is just the connecting piece that is superglued to the back of your case. It is also way cheaper than buying the quad lock case. They also have a magnetic version in case your in for wireless charging.

I don't use the BRP system either on my '22 F3. I'm happy using my iPhone connected to a Cardo comm unit. I also use a Quad Lock in the same location. I haven't had an issue with the mount or the case so far with my iPhone 13. I try to make sure that I get a positive lock with it before I set off, including wiggling the heck out of the phone. The new 2024 Spyders with Carplay look pretty nice. That might be the only way I'd give up my current setup. Beautiful scenery, btw!

Thank you! Regarding RTs, current design came out in 2020 so I’m guessing it will be revamped in the next year or two.

I've gone back and forth between using the BRP and compatible apps, versus not using it all and just using my android phone and my Cardo Packtalk Bold. I saw a video on a product called Carpuride that looked pretty cool. It's basically iPhone Carplay or Android Auto on a separate display. Multiple display sizes. Looked pretty cool really but not cheap. I'm almost to the point where I need to get a new phone, so once I do that I'll look again at mount options. Thanks for the video Chris. Ride safe.

What type of handlebar bracket did you use for the QuadLock? Picking up my RT Limited next week!

Good luck with your new machine! I used the standard mount that comes with the Quad Lock. They provide a few different sized rubber washers that fit between the bars and the mount. Congrats on your new ride!
