I got rejected from my dream art school yesterday, so this video was definitely what I needed right now. There's more than one way to get to where I want to be

@honeysucklemakes There's also other schools if you ever revisit that option. A lot of times people get hung up on something they think is the best option and never know the other opportunities. That said university is only for educational growth purposes. It's not a requirement for success. Life itself is an educational growth process that offers opportunities everywhere.

You can always see if there are community art places like a maker space that give access to different medias. Or even taking a community college course(s) in the specific art classes you want. That way you don't have to put money into a degree, and can have access to the specific media you want.

I'm currently in my 3rd year in art school (technically University in fine arts program) and I was shocked when they never taught us anything. No technique, colour theory, how to paint, nothing. I was also surprised at how the sculpture classes are not typical sculpture with clay but with wood and welding and how there was no instruction in any year of how to actually paint? We are provided the studio space to work, but are only taught how to critique and how deep and philosophical the meaning behind our art should be. I almost quit after 1st year but am pushing through right now since I only have 1 year left. I still consider myself a self taught artist since I haven't been taught anything, but I think this would have been really useful and important info to know before going into this. There are pros and cons to art school (It also probably varies depending on the school), I think it just depends on the person and what works for you! By the way I am a huge fairy fan and am loving these paintings!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, is this in Australia? (Unfortunately we don’t have the best art degree standards compared to the rest of the world or at least that la what I found 🥲) it’s crazy when I hear my friends talk about how great their art school is in UK and Russia! Wishing you all the best in your journey I’m sure it will work out for the best 💕✨

@alyenaartist I'm not an art major, but I took an art class at community college for around $150 and the professor was good. He would walk around critique, show how to improve, let us continue, then have the class move around the room to view each other's work and comment on it.

I get so many people telling me I should go to art school, but I’ve already taken some independent courses for both art and business, and I see no reason to drop that much money on a degree that is not necessary for success.

For real!! I don’t think I would pay that much money either unless they art school was highly valued/ specialised in the arts 💕

@@chantalleonhardt Exactly! If someone wants to work for Disney, sure I can see the value in a formal education. But most people don't need that, and I know so many artists who hate the career their degree comes with. They're pursuing other income streams

I didn't go to art school because when I was younger there was still this stereotype of a starving artist. What's more I am self-taught with everything actually and I prefet it this way to study, explore, make my own mistakes. Teachers often kill creativity, sad but true... Better to ask other fellow artists, I think;). That's a good attitude - you can achieve this! It might be hard, beginnings are difficult and as you said - channels that blow up from the start are rare and being on social media requires us to go out of our comfort zone. I love your style🥰

Thank you! I definitely think being self taught allows you to find your voice and style a lot quicker, art school can be very harsh and you often have to found the status quo! Social media definitely can be a hard road aswell but we have to get outside our comfort zone ❤⭐️

I watched Margaret Olley being interviewed on youtube and she said you don't need an uni degree to be an artist. That's good enough for me. She was big on art school though, but what she thought what an art school should be I would think is very different to what you get around me. They have to fluff up the course to be accredited, to get funding from the government. I get it, they have to survive, but they don't teach how to be artists. They don't teach technique, I had to find that out on youtube. I did like being in a room with other people doing art though, that was good. I reckon you are doing an awesome job, love your videos.

In my humble opinion you do not need to go to Art School. You have your own style, your own ideas and the ability to make it work. You can study the old masters in your own time if you desire. You really don't need the huge debt either. I think you already believe in yourself and that is what matters.

I think you comment should be posted somewhere else like those parents who kept on flaunting/exploting their kids, fake lifestyles, those tiktokers doing chicken dances, dumb and hurtful pranks. Not on this one. I've learned a thing or two about art on this video alone. So yeah, ur barking on the wrong tree.

today I’m going to finally learn how to draw and this has been a big motivation for me. Just followed you on insta since i want to follow your story over there too. I’ve found a KZfaq series for drawing for beginners which im hoping will be simple enough for me to follow :’) Anyways, looking forward to seeing more of your children’s book and thank you for the inspiration :)

Hi Chantal. If you are doing such big artworks which I think is really great. Find out if that will print as nice as the original because when you reduce things so much you loose a bit of the detail. Example. A fine line may disappear. Maybe seek professional advice about that😊. Cant wait to see your book👏👏👏 Go girl🩷

Hi Lolita, Thank you!! I actually paint such big works 2-3 times bigger than print, to create the detail! In my experience it looks so much more detailed when I size it down 😊 Last year I resized an A1-A4 and the details were all captured beautifully but I also have a great printer place that does justice to my work! Also found a book printer place that maintains the same quality- I just have to pay a bit more, but I think it’s work it 🙏✨
