Why I Ditched My Wahoo ELEMNT for Garmin Edge - MISTAKE?

Күн бұрынRecently I decided to bin off my trusty Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt and instead got the Garmin Edge 1040 Solar GPS bike computer.
I had three reasons (aka excuses) that I convinced myself were justifiable to shell out on the Garmin, so in this video (after a quick unboxing), I'll go through each one and explain why I switched out Wahoo for the Garmin.
Is it really an upgrade? Was it a mistake? Let's see ...

How long does the battery last? I am considering getting a Garmin Solar, to reduce phone battery drainage. But I have a Battery bank with me anyway.

Battery life - ages! I hardly ever charge it up and just now expect it to have charge. I’ve not seen it get below 40% (although maybe I need to do more riding !). One of the best features about the garmin for sure. But I’m having second thoughts on the ClimbPro now that Sunmit is available. In the process of doing a vid on this

@@PEDALLERS To clarify, I wonder about the battery time in cloud cover too, I ride up to 4 hours, sometimes up to 5. and ride in winter in -10C in darkness. So I want something that does not shut down in few minutes during the winter. My Gopro Hero 7 Black shuts down after few mins, so I now keep batteries in jacket or trousers pockets. But with a cycling computer on the handlebar, the point is to have it on the bike. and can't just swap batteries. My phone is not an issue as I keep it on my, so body heat keeps it warm enough. Gopro Hero 4 Session is great for low sub zero temps as it gets warm easily, done -11C. But in mid summer it can overheat, get so hot it's a bit painful to hold.

@@PEDALLERS I hope it's waterproof, I know that they are meant to be. Is the screen hard to read in the sun?

I'll keep an eye on cloud cover & solar gains. it gives you a nice summary at the end of a ride how much it has charged. Honestly, not sure i'll be out testing it in -10c (maybe, for the cause, who knows!).

The screen 🤣 You are predicting my next vid. I'm currently testing the climb feature vs the Wahoo Bolt v2, and found the bolt screen is so much nicer to read. The Garmin does have a reflection, not sure if that is just on the solar or across the range.
