I took on a quick tune up and transmission seal job in trade for some abandoned cars and parts. And typical of any old car project, it snowballed into way more work than I had expected! This car isn’t currently available for purchase as it’s not my car. As always, thanks for watching!

I notice the concrete you had poured out front is missing now. Good call to go backwards and have it removed since people said your make too much money after adding a approach and a sign you bought for $75. Shop add ons like a longer approach and having $75 signs is a totally unobtainable goal that 99% of car guys could never accomplish in fourteen decades. Smart choice to spend even more money to rip it out and make it look like exactly it was before... or wait.... is this a old video?????

It's called being prepared with content puddin, something you don't seem to know much about, always chasing your tail to get a video out and if something goes wrong you're usually screwed for a video for a week, prime example a couple of weeks ago😅. Having content as a backup is always a good idea no matter how old it might be ✌🏻

37:15 That passing gear kickdown mechanism controls the line pressure in the trans. Its every bit as important as a TV cable on a 700-R4. It MUST be hooked up, adjusted, and working well, or that new trans will burn up.

Regarding the Thermo-"bog"...Edelbrock was a marketing genius when they figured out how to rebrand an old 600-cfm Carter AFB and then convince so many dummies to remove 750cfm Qjets and 800cfm Thermoquads, just so that those geniuses wouldn't have to crack open a factory service manual and make themselves understand some simple adjustment instructions. In fact, those instructions are SO DIFFICULT, you might have to take a drill bit and see if it fits between two pieces of the carb. Nevermind that slapping on the Pla-Skool carb probably took away 35hp immediately, required a spacer and probably got the throttle rod linkage geometry wrong. I rebuild Mopar carburetors, starters and alternators strictly by the book and they work like the day they were new.

You need to put that 1481 Edelbrock throttle adapter back on and find a Torqueflight guy that can help you with that kickdown linkage, it needs to be on there, engineered correctly and adjusted correctly or the car owner will be rebuilding that transmission again shortly! VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!

Mostly old parts and rust - met a feller fishing who was retired from Chrysler Sterling stamping, when I mentioned "typical rust" on my Mopar he got a chuckle, said they come from the factory with rust, they use rusty metal to start with. The entire history of automobiles is intertwined with rust abatement technology.

The wire going to the trans is a neutral safety switch it may be another reason why it did not start from inside the car and I bet whoever looked at that trans took the pump apart and put the gear in upside down and that stuff your pulling out around he input shaft is part of the gear being ate up because they installed the gear upside down. Those 727 TQ FLight trans are really easy to take apart and to rebuild but you must install parts the right way and would of been easy to see if it was right or wrong because if the pump is hard to turn the gear is on wrong

15:15 Mort, the wear on that converter hub WILL cause a leak. When I got my 68 Fury, it had a built 440, 4.10 gears, and a B&M Holeshot 3000. It was an animal, but 3rd gear was gone and the front seal leaked. I had the trans rebuilt, but he showed me the grooves on my B&M converter, and replaced it with a mild 2200 stall 12-incher. The car wasn't the same after that 😕

Short story I had a 76 Dodge 4x4 Power wagon. Short box. I put in a rebuilt 440 police interceptor ( yea it really was! I bought it rebuilt from the county shop auction for $300.) Well it was killing me on milage with 40 miles round trip to work every day. So i bought me a Edelbrock thermoquad replacement carb. It did the trick. It doubled the mileage and seat of the pants cut the power in half😢. So disappointing, but I could afford to drive again. That engine could still and did break most any thing it wanted. My best was breaking the trans to t-case adapter in half. Keep up the great work!

Chrysler had 2 style big block engines, the "RB" and the "B". the 440 is an "RB" block meaning raised deck. The way to determine the difference is by looking for and embossment either near the distributor in front of the intake signifying an RB block, or an embossment on a slant in front of the drivers side head signifying a B block. The embossment is stamped with the engine size as well as a letter code signifying whether it is a high performance engine or not. I did see the embossment in front of the intake meaning it is an RB block. RB blocks came in a variety of sizes such as the 350, the 413, the 426, and the 440. 383's were available in both RB and B. All Chrysler big blocks had 727 as their automatic option. For a neat story, my dad once had a 70 Roadrunner that had a 440 hp police interceptor engine from a highway patrol vehicle that he could not run a clutch fan on. Every time he would get on it, the clutch fan would remove the bearing in the water pump throwing the fan into the radiator. It just so happened the fix for this was to install a flex fan...lol. Nice looking car, great video, thanks for sharing.

There are a couple of reasons to run TWO starter solenoids, if the wiring is correct. One is to not have a constant hot cable going to the starter for safety. Another is so that you can run constant battery voltage to the coil for starting. Last is to combat heat soak starter problems so that you don't have to imitate a GM owner that can't start his car when the starter is hot.

Awesome find, everyone always find the good vehicles! I sent someone to Kansas over the weekend to pick up a 52 Chevy truck I found on marketplace, not as cool as that find though. 😁👍

I had that same problem years ago with a 1972 Fury. I had an expert fix it, and had no problems after that.

71 Satellite with a 72 front clip. Note the difference in the marker lights. Not a big deal anyway.

the 727tf needs kick down linkage or it will burn up the pump. this is probably why the transmission was waisted the first time.

It was wired in position. Trans worked find. The kick down won’t take a pump bushing out

Tip to install the fuel pump. (BB Chrysler only) Make sure the fuel pump push rod is back as far UP as it goes, meaning it is on the low point of the lobe at the top of the rod. If it isn't, bump the engine until it is. Then, kind of hook it in using an arc motion so that the arm catches the bottom of the push rod. Some guys use grease to hold the push rod up, or you can do something with a bolt in an access hole to clamp the push rod up, but I have never done that.

Great job. Usually a blown front seal means a new front bush and often a rebuild. Cheers.

I hope you've figured it out since posting, but you need to have the kickdown hooked up to the trans. It's just like the cable on a 700R4. It will burn up the trans trying to driving without it.

it was wired the same as it was when it came in and and it shifted fine before
@livesteamfan1
@livesteamfan1 Ай бұрын
@@MortskeRepair Not the wiring, the linkage from the carb to the trans. It controls not just when, but how it shifts. Without the linkage, or whatever you want to use to connect the two, the trans will burn out.
