With one minor correction the engine is a 942CC, I for some reason had 935CC in my brain.... And pain and sorrow... No this is not click bait. This is not one of those videos that states Why I hate it but I really like it cause.... NO this is real... This is what I think of this bike and why I never posted videos of it before....

This came only as so many have asked about the Bolt and I have rode these things enough to know I'm not a huge fan. But persistence brought this to fruition. Yes it's more dramatic and crude than usual, but that's what happens when you poke the bear. Now for those highly regarding reviews as I have seen them as well when I was looking for a motorcycle years ago those folks were shorter and lighter. But since day one of throwing a leg over one of these to each and every ride leading to this one I just keep getting angrier with it. Trust me that's what the disclaimer was about. I filmed this bike many times and it always always went south. I also had complaints I only post bikes that are likeable with little complaints. Sooo with one stone I hit two birds. Trust me and ask some of my teammates, I stated this might not go as well as they believed it would. But sometimes you do have to show the other side.

someone HAD to make a video against it to be the only one against it on youtube... a way to get more views i guess. so angry about looks. because most harley guys only care about looks because their bike is broken most of the time so all they can do is look at them. ill keep riding my bolt not looking at the silly things yamaha did at the factory because i fixed them.

@@AnotherLSMonte he's not doing it for a shock factor review or just to be different and he also isn't a "harley guy". If you have watched the videos, he reviews tons of bikes and owns Indians now and has no grievances with Yamaha overall. When you've tried multiple bikes and come to the bolt you see the truth. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, you can love the bolt and that's fine but he's test rode the thing three different times and has tried to like it and simply can't.

Going to buy a bolt today. You just convinced me with your biased view. Tired of Harley breaking down
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 4 жыл бұрын
That's fine to each their own. My view is not biased. I don't own a HD either. And as stated Yamaha is a brand of pedigree machines of which I've had in my garage and still want so many of them. This, this is not the Yamaha. This is not the Vstars, this is not the Virago, this is not the XS. This is trash compared to those and that's where I'm angry. Not I'm such a Harley fan boy I can't see past the Orange and Black. It's because this bike is not that great when everyone says it is... As stated. Good power, good brakes, made by Yamaha (meaning reliable) the end.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 4 жыл бұрын
Also on top of that I have rode 100s of other machines from all other manufacturers. I like Suzuki's cruisers and Honda's (except the Fury which one day it'll go there like it did here), and some of the HDs, haven't met an Indian I hate. Haven't met a Kawi I hate either to be honest. And there are many Yamaha machines I'm cool with as well. Haven't met a Moto Guzzi I hate yet either. But that's just it. When you ride everything from everyone and then you sit on something that just isn't them it doesn't help. Couple that to I'm taller, and a bit heavier than average at 6 feet 209 so it doesn't fit me either. I have a Honda CX500C that's totally one of my favorite bikes and it's in it's stock form. Despite it's smaller size and it's sideways VTwin sticking out on both sides I don't touch any hot bits and it fits me... What a novel concept. Same with the Rebel 500 I've owned, same with the Sportster's, same with the TU250X, same with the S40 and countless other smaller displacement motorcycles I have rode including Yamaha's own VStar 250, 650, 1100 and so on. So don't call it biased when you expect greatness and you get whatever the heck this is.

I have owned and ridden, a Ducati, a Norton Commando, Moto Guzzi, and my favorite a early 70's Harley 74, bored out to 1500, A sad day when I sold it... Removed from the street, raising a family:) Anyway I got out of riding for a while, and a good deal on a bolt landed on me, like a 'Bolt' from heaven. The negativity I get from this video seems to have more going on than any rational critique of the 'Bolt." I don't race, or climb hills, or even like the ultra-modern sport looks. When I first saw the Bolt, I thought it may be some Harly. As a matter of fact, several of my Harly riding old school bro's did a triple take. So far who sees this bike, thinks it is a very cool looking Cruiser. I find it has plenty of low-end torque, and kick-ass acceleration into to second and third enough to jerk your teeth out. It does have a shorter rush into forth, but so what, it has five gears. To say it is not fast, ok... So how fast is fast? my brother had it up to 104 mph, but that does not thrill me. Cruising at 70 or 80 is enough for me. I like the wind in my face, the thump, and growl of the engine, and yes, heads do turn. I like a responsive ride, and the Bolt serves me well. I CAN compare with Harly or any other bike. My Harley was the shi*t, but that is not today. I loved my Harley, sorry I ever sold it. But listening to you makes me remember who I may caution the young to stay away from. You don't need to love the Bolt, but some of what you say is simply not even rational. You are NOT the yay or naysayer for the rest of the riding public. Your opinion is only opinion. The Bolt has a couple of things I'd change, but not so critical. Chill, enjoy. Life is to short to stress on some arguably good or bad or stupid aspects of a motorcycle. We all make our own way... so, if I enjoy the Bolt am I the less for it? I agree with you on that stupid digital speedometer, but. I venture to say if a person rides and can't tell where they're at by the engine sound and feel? Hmm... no comment. Good riding:)

I’ve ridden both the bolt and sportster for long periods of time. I would 100% take the bolt over the sportster. No bike is perfect but this is leaps and bounds better than the Harley. 1. Reliability. 2. Better engine. The power Ranger and power is just far superior. 3. No off the shelf bike really has good suspension. In fact, I can’t think of a bike that bought within my life where I’ve been happy with the stock suspension. 4. Most riders don’t ride for looks. Spoken like a true Harley rider...the looks are more important.

Being an owner of the XV950R (Bolt) for over a year I was sceptical of the review when first watching this as I love riding the bike and the reviewer so so negative. I wanted to disagree with the whole of the review.....However, I have to admit though that the reviewer makes a lot of valid points which are completely true. Unfortunately he's telling the truth. Theres a few points I wouldn't agree on but on the whole he's right. This is a flawed bike. Its not refined. You wont be riding perfection. But I have however found the bike 100% reliable mechanically. (Ok oil sensor sucks) The console display is rubbish, unviewable in sunlight and the lack of petrol (gas) gauge very frustrating. (Gear indicator im not bothered about). The zip tie on the frame by the seat is a little strange and cheap looking.The mirrors do vibrate at speed making them unusable at times. The engine/air filter placement was initially strange, however I never feel the need to try to grip the tank with my knees so its not been a problem for me. I also don't feel much heat from the engine unless im stationary in traffic, and the heats usually on my calves. I can agree that the suspension is harsh and you feel every imperfection in the road. Not had any issue with ground clearance on cornering and found it had more clearance than a lot of cruisers. so i'd disagree with this point. I'll also add that the finish isn't great in places. I've got some rust coming through on the frame. It lives outside under a cover but not had similar issues with my Honda's. I also have the oil check light come on for the first couple of miles despite having sufficient oil. For me the "Bolt" is the style and size I want out of a cruiser and as a second bike I enjoy riding it when it suits me. Its easy to customise to make it your own which was also something I was interested in. Some people will see through the imperfections and love the bike. Others will hate it.

My 2005 Sportster was not expensive at all regarding replacement or aftermarket parts. I had a problem with the brake pistons and my local dealership treated me like I was their most important customer without even trying to get me to trade it in for a newer model. I may be the exception, but I was treated far better by the dealership than when I rode a Honda and needed dealer support. I finally stopped riding because of my age. Reflexes slowed down way too much for me to feel safe around the "cagers".

The Rebel 1100 is a solid piece of kit and even adds cruise control to the mix as well. You also get almost an extra inch of travel out back for the suspension, a little more fuel capacity, over 50lbs less weight with the Rebel with a larger engine to boot. Worth the little extra cost for sure. I need to get a Rebel 1100 on camera, best I got was around a little parking lot even though I was promised a full ride.

As for the LCD screen, nope its still pretty shit and shame on Yamaha for not updating it. But KOSO makes aftermarket displays for all 950 models (Regular Bolt, R Spec, C-spec and SCR950) that are SOOO much better than the stock, plus it comes with a Rev meter, Gear indicator, customisable lights, etc. The only thing its missing is a proper fuel gauge but seeing as the bike doesn't have a fuel sensor I can see why that is the case, the bike still has a reserve light though (and you can go approximately 50km on it, plenty of distance to find a gas station...in europe anyway, heard you americans are having gas issues now haha) so its not all that bad, and resetting the trip meter is literally just a button click so its not like you are doing extra work.

Why ride it if you hate it so much. Let's see, you can adjust the shocks, you can change the air filter , change the handlebars. I've been riding bikes for 40 years and have ridden the bolt. It does have some short comings just like every bike I have tried out. No bike from the factory is a perfect ride, no bike ! I had to adjust my Chief and Chieftain to make them work for me. I was a Harley rider for 37 years and right now I wouldn't give you 10 cents for a Harley especially a sportster. They have been junk for many years. My buddy has a scout. I rode it and was not impressed with it, besides the speed and torque. Well he made some changes to it and now I think it's a great bike to ride. What have you done to your Indian to make it fit you? So if you don't like something on a bike change it and make it better. Where I'm from there are quite a few bolts running around, and they look really nice because the people that ride them made them their own. No bike deserves the review you put out, if you didn't like something on the bike make a suggestion what you would do to make it better that's what real test riders do.

How does it compare with the Honda Rebel, and the Suzuki Boulevard M50?
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 4 жыл бұрын
Even though the Boulevard is ages old at this point the bike is better put together and feels well made. I will say that the engine is not as strong as the Bolt and I will say that overall the bike is a bit lazier and softer, but in this case it is not a bad thing. Heck it even has a inverted fork! The Rebel is more nimble, not as quick with power, seat, though uncomfortable, is passable as a seat and has even been updated for 2020, which I need to test. And there are no goofy bits to hit with your leg or engine cylinder offsets on either and heat is also much better on these two than the Bolt. These bikes, one being cheaper, and one being on par or a bit more expensive than the Bolt even, do represent different ideas on the cruiser than the Bolt as well, but are otherwise good interpretations of what a bike should be.
@ifrit35
@ifrit35 4 жыл бұрын
Here is my take. I think the Rebel is its own thing, it's a cheap motorcycle that doesn't try to imitate a Harley sportster contrary to the Bolt. That's a good thing in my opinion. There are no major design flaw that you wouldn't be able to fix. Like the Hedgehog said, the seat is thin and your butt will hurt after 2 hours of riding, Suspensions are ok if you're 70kg or less but even in that case the fork needs 15W oil. Brakes are mediocre but you can really get a lot more bite out of these by swapping for ebc pads. I haven't been on a Boulevard though.

Good motorcycles to start out on are the ones that you are comfortable one yourself. The Shadow 750, Suzuki M50, C90, C50, and even finding an older S40 would be good to look at. If the Bolt fits then take a look at it through your eyes. My opinion is not everyone's for sure. I would say find one that fits you well.

RH.... I've owned the Bolt for over 1.5 yrs, had a Virago before that. No issues. It is actually dynamically more stable at low speeds than any sportster. As for your complaint about the seat-space... and the Zip ties...... the seat space is there if you want to put a Mustang or Corbin seat on it, etc. The Whole Idealism of the Bolt was customisation and the Rustic feel. If you stand behind the Bolt., and you are perceptive .... You will notice that even the shock mounts and the mirror arms are different lengths. The Bolt is analogous to the "Picasso" of motorcycles. "Nothing" on it is Left-Right-Centric. Was never meant to be that way. However, mechanically it is a better bike balance-wise than any Harley or cruiser. As for the Zip-ties.... that is part of the look and feel, and... if you looked, you would see that they are "Adjustable", meaning you can reuse them and do your mods and keep them intact. The fit and finish is up to the buyer.... The 270 degree firing order, is the same as Ducati's V4 90 as is HD. The offset off the heads.... That's a no-brainer.... HD has a patent on in-line single pin cranks they use. The VStar XVS950 Bolt uses a side by side single pin ..... hence the offset of the heads. Also .... The Bolt is tolerant of high temp operation... as it's air cooled. no over heating issues when the outside air temps are 46 C, (115 F).... So Yup.... maybe they can give us a better gauge cluster, maybe they can give user modes, ( they're for noobs, not seasoned riders anyway). Self cancelling turn signals, flash to pass head lights, Nimble 29 degree rake. 13 litre gas tank giving it a 200 mile range with a reminder to refuel when the level goes past 120 miles.. .... As for your complaint about the Air-box...... that "cluncky thing" actually offsets the rear #2 cylinder, so that when you "Knee in to the tank" you don't end up sideways on your seat, It was made that way for a purpose, not to irritate over height and over weight people. Don't Dis the Bolt son.... If you look at any Yamaha MC site, You won't see the XVS 1300 Stryker in there any more, just the XV 250 Virago and the XVS 950 Bolt.These two are still selling, so despite this rant.... The Bolt is a thing.... Get used to it. Nuff said. Stay Safe Ciao

Multiple rides over multiple years and pretty decent distances. Let's be real the Bolt is dying, going from 4 distinct models (Bolt, C-Spec, R-Spec, SC950) to now just the R-Spec (it was the best of the bunch but still soulless) and most people claim to love it but listen to the laundry list of changes just to make it right. It's got the death wobble, well we had to use this bearing, it has terrible suspension... Etc etc. I wanted to like it. I like the mechanical, but hate the wrapper. This is a description I've even given the Revolution Max HDs like the Sportster S and Pan America. I want Motorcycles that just work and if I want to change I can, not I have to change because it don't. My Royal Enfield, Moto Guzzi, and Indian are all that way. My Enfield has remained stock, the Guzzi I added heated grips and a center stand only, and my Indian is built because I wanted it to be a reflection of my stupidity, but it didn't have to be changed, but it has seat (floating seat), handle bars, heated grips, highway bars and pegs, additional driving lights, sissy bar and fender rack. Again, options, not necessities. That's how it should be. I get the Bolt is a clean slate, but it's awful in that form. Even the anemic old Sportster was better in stock form, hence the comparison, and I'm not necessarily a fan of Sportsters, but them and the V-rod are the only Harleys I do respect. I've owned and rode other Yamahas with much love, but not this.

Hell, even the factory battery (yuasa made in Japan) lasted over 10 years and that was storing the bike during the winter in an unheated shed. The thing is, I got a commercial license in 2018 and had to be extremely careful with my driving record. So all I found myself doing on the R6 was cruising - hence why I traded that bike in on the Bolt. I love the Bolt. This is going on my 4th year with it. I have 0 complaints about it and it does everything I would expect it to do as an affordable V twin bobber-style cruiser that is NOT a Hardly David’s Son.

Not every bike has to be made for a 6 foot tall man. As a shorter, lady rider, I have a hard time finding a bike I fit on, but the Bolt was perfect and one of the few that doesn't sit too high off the ground for myself. And some of us like a bike with a more old school feel, not all the bells, whistles, and modern conveniences. The Bolt is a very customizable ride, which is why I think so many people do like it, besides the fact that it has way more power and better handling than its Harley counterpart.

I have Bolt R spec for more than a year. I even made a short video which you can check on my channel. My opinions are: 1) seating is not comfy at all. 2) seating position is bad so riding position is bad too. You can't have a comfortable travel over an hour. Impossible. 3) gauge is just poor and doesn't fit with the type of this bike. 4) lean angle is limited. You wanna lean more with this type sporty cruiser bike but it's very limited. 5) power delivery and the feeling is good until you reach 130 km/h (about 80 mph). After that, the bike says "hey man I don't wanna go faster". 6) it almost doesn't vibrate. Not at all. I disagree with you. 7) I changed the original exhaust with a vance and hines twin slash and you can literally hear it's coming from 10 blocks.. Neighbours want me to die. 8) the bike looks good. You always have the attention. For me, ofcourse there is an affect of the vance and hines about this. 9) handling is fairly easy and the centre of gravity makes it easy to ride even for beginners. The bike is fun to ride I can say. 10) over all quality is above the average. 11) it is relatively cheap. 12) let me add this, yea the air intake on the right and cylinder position on the left side is not wonderful but you don't need or want to squeeze the bike with your legs even at high speeds. I never needed it. This is not an R1. I never hurt my leg or got uncomfortable because of the cylinder or the air intake. 13) if you get the R spec, you can adjust the suspension. 14) gas tank is kinda small and yes there is a meaningless space between the seat and the gas tank.. That's why you should order a mustang seat with the bike (I'll do that soon) 15) the back seat also is not comfortable, she said. (: So at the end of the day if you are looking for a mid sized budget bike with a nice classic look with some power for "short city rides", you can buy it. Just order the vance and hines at the same time if you like the look and the sound. It's louder than hell 🤟

I have a C-Spec (technically an XV950 Racer but they are practically the same bike), I'd like to add to your point: 1) Seating is pretty comfy (compared to the bikes I owned before it, the seating however isn't the same as the R-Spec so can't really comment on it) 2) Same point as above, however I don't see how this is a valid argument honestly. The R-Spec is a bobber, if you think the experience will be different on a HD Sporters then you might be dissapointed... 3) You're right, guage is absolute shit, which is why I upgraded to the KOSO meter, which is a MUST for any Bolt owner, I would even say it should be in your shopping cart when you get the bike, it looks much better and has more functions, if you haven't yet I strongly recommend you get it. 4) Lean angle is on par with other bobber style cruisers though, the sportsters aren't any better in this regard, that said the C-Spec has far better leaning angle, the thing is pretty darn sporty, you would have to be quite aggressive to scrape the footpeg hehe 5) True, there is only so much you can do with 52HP (and 80Nm of torque) but that is pretty standard in that class of cruisers, even the 1200 sportsters have the same top speed as a Bolt. Besides I don't think its fair to even play out this criticism, this isn't a sport bike or a touring bike, imo 130Kmh is plenty fast enough to have fun and honestly from my experience on the C-spec the bike could still provide a good level of punch up to 160Kmh. 6) Compared to an HD no it doesn't vibrate, but compared to say a Triumph bonnevile it does kind of vibrate, but honestly I don't think its enough to actually bother anybody (unless you are super sensitive, in which case why ride a motorcycle?) 7) I'd like to swap the stock with an Akropovich exhuast for improved looks and sound (and performance) 8) I personally am not a fan of the original and R-spec models, I vastly prefer the looks of the C-spec, it looks sporty and is different enough to not be mistaken for a HD Sportster, but to each their own I guess haha 9) Agree with you there, additionally I want to add that because it is on the heavier side of the motorcycle market it is more stable compared to my Street Twin, which makes cornering more comfortable imo 10) Merely above average? the bike is build like a gun! I know this because I know what bad quality is (I owned a Hyosung GT650 R) 11) In the US maybe, in europe this thing set me back 7,500 EUROs XD XD but still vastly cheaper than an HD sporters (an Iron 883 costs almost 10,000 EUROs and that bike is vastly inferior to the Bolt) 12) Agreed, the airbox can (CAN) get in the way, that said for me it never got in the way, the footpeg of the C-spec is pushed more to the back than the R spec and is slightly higher, providing a sporty seating positions which prevents my knee from getting to the box. That said you can get Airfilter modes that can shrink the size of the box to a comforatble position, though in my opinion that just ruins the looks of the bike, but hey atleast the box isn't going to be in the way. 13) Agreed, same can be said for the C-spec and the SCR, genrally you should avoid the original model, it lacks so much, only has a measly 48Hp and isn't as refined. 14) agreed, 12L is not terrible but really wish it had more. Atleast the bike is fuel efficient, 55MPG is quite good, should be able to give you a range of around 200-250KM in one go. 15) The back seat is generally not comfortable on any cruiser (or nakeds or sports bikes haha), they are only comfortable on adventure/touring bikes (and some nakeds, like the Bonnevile), I don't honestly think this is a fair point to use against the bolt, that said a sissy bar usually fixes the discomfort issue.

That's exactly it. The bike is only the cost it is because they didn't sell you a complete motorcycle practically and that's what I find maddening about it. A 1979 Honda CX500C.... yeah a small bike still. Yes along with others such as an Indian Scout and an Indian Chieftain. But to me the smaller displacement motorcycles are supposed to be the bread and butter of the industry. Suzuki has it right with the S40, C90, M50, C50, and the older S50. Heck even the VanVan 200 I fit and the TU250X. Honda has it right with the Shadow, the CB500 series, the Rebel 500, the Rebel 300, the CB300 series as well. And Kawasaki with their 400 series and such. And Yamaha's own R3 and Mt-03 and even the Vstar 250 and other machines that are small, easy for smaller riders, and light do so much better than this thing. Sorry to say this bike does not belong in the Yamaha stable and it is showing as the C-spec is already dead, the SCR950 gone, leaving only the Base and R-Spec. All Yamaha had to do was put the attention to detail they have done for all these years in their other bikes into this one and it could be with us for a long time to come and a true all around contender. It could have killed the Sportster, it had the heart, that engine is good. But it didn't have the rest.

What you should be asking is how much were they paid by the manufacturer. I was paid nothing by no one. This bike literally was in my crosshairs when it came out and I told the world exactly the story of how it all went downhill from there. It did not live to the hype, it did not feel right, it was not put together well, and Yamaha has refused to update it despite the complaints and this could be a bread and butter bike. And in all those reviews there are similar complaints, they would rather just deal with it or glaze over the problems. I have even seen the I love this bike but videos and they go into a death wobble issue they have.... And I have not felt that one yet or it would have been on the list. Point is this is honesty. I have stated that I never wanted to ride this bike many times in many comments and messages. It just got to the point of them finally poking enough I did it, and as you can see, its not happy. I would do the same thing to the Honda Fury, I would do the same thing to the Sporty 48, I would do the same thing to any Hyosung motorcycle so far that I have rode. It's just I did not chose to do so and luckily no one keeps asking on those.

That's strange because I just watched a video where they took it to the canyons and it carved really well at high speeds. They did scrape some but were able to stay up with some pretty fast riders.

Its designed to compete with the iron 883 and it does that pretty well. Still a better bike than a 883 & that must be terrible 😆

You are mostly spot on, I thought about just taking the engine, and transmission and redesign everything from the ground up after just one 15 minutes road test.

Damn man, dramatic clickbait. Sold my bolt years ago and bought a few “high end” ~40k bikes and they obviously blew the bolt out of the water. Still appreciate the insane value of the bolt and would recommend one to a newer rider any day.

Gave plenty of reasons, poor design, fit and finish, awful ergos and gauge, I did say the Bolt would be more reliable

Dude why are you like shaking with rage over how "bad " an entry level bike is. I bought a 2021 R spec as a first bike and love it. It's a fun bike. Price was right, low end torque is there. The bike was like 9 grand Canadian, cheaper in the states. You can't compare it to top end bikes dude.

Well damn. I was literally in the middle of buying a 22 model when I watched your video. Even though I am disappointed...I appreciate it for saving me the money. I just can't afford a sportster. F##k
