Why does everyone keep referring to any bike that's bellow 1200cc as "entry-level" or "beginner" bike? I have a Yamaha Bolt r spec and love it. My previous bike was a Yamaha V-Star 650 which on many sites is considered a "girl" bike. Ridiculous. I explored Eastern Canada and US on it and never had a break down. On a 1983 Honda Shadow 750cc I drove from Montreal, Quebec to California via the Grand Canyon and then to Vancouver and across Canada back to Montreal. 6 weeks of pure 2-wheel bliss, never once on an interstate, always on back roads. Along the way I stopped at a car garage and asked if I could borrow an oil pan to do an oil change and they happily obliged. Just because it's not a Harley doesn't make it a "beginner" bike. Also, most Harley bikers with super shiny and expensive bikes just ride out on a Saturday to show off, make a lot of noise and park with all their Harley gear expecting praise. And I do praise their bikes, they are beautiful and sound awesome. But by no means do they represent the passion and the real sense of freedom that motorcycling can deliver.

Because it's a marketing strategy. Most of the people that repeat it are either newbies that don't realize that in all but the last 20 years a 750 was the big boy bike you had to graduate UP to, or a salesman trying to upsell. The rest are just parrots repeating someone else.

Ok, People. ....As an Owner of the Bolt..... First things first.... 58 nominal HP at 5252 rpm, ~ 64 at 5780 RPM...and 34 Hp at 3,000 rpm. ....The Gearing , ( Top speeds per gear given are at 5780 rpms so use 90 % as required values so as not to rev-limit the bike ) .... 1st is 0 to 60 kph, 2nd is 27 to 90 kph, 3rd is 35 to 114 kph , 4th is 60 to 143 kph. and 5th is 70 to 173 kph, ( 107 mph)...... so going 30 mph, (50 kph), in 4th gear... and trying to make it sound like an HD isn't going to pan out if you rev it and try to make it into a pocket rocket cruiser. Max torque is at 3, 000 rpm. not 2100 or what ever you had there on the tach. So punching the throttle there at that 2100 ? rpm won't impress you one iota. The Bolt has 59.3 ft lb's of torque at 3000 all the way up to about 5780 rpm.... It's an Over-square engine meaning its bore is bigger than it's stroke,( 85 x 83 mm per cylinder ), meaning its a higher revved engine than the HD, sooo stop riding it like its an HD. City riding in 3rd gear at 50 kph, (30 mph), and you slightly twist the throttle, will shoot you ahead very very fast. Soooo Like any standard shift car , So too is the mannerisms of this bike. And you don"t need a Tach.... Listen to the engine, it will tell you ,( as any experienced rider knows....) when to shift up or down... Stay Safe . Ciao
