You went to Penn State for all the wrong reasons and left Penn State for all the wrong reasons.

while i respect your decision to leave school and sympathize with your situation about feeling a need to leave, i believe the arguments you present on why you’re leaving penn state and college life are misplaced emotions about why you left and aren’t grounds for anyone else who is thinking about college and more specifically penn state to abide by. i watched the whole video and would personally discredit everything she says if you are a potential college student. as a grad of college myself, so pardon my bias, “all bachelors degrees and where you get them are the same so why not go cheaper.” not even close to true. no idea where that’s coming from so not even going to address it. harvard>florida state etc. computer science > art history (income wise obviously i minored in art). can’t be a doctor without the major and can’t be an senior accountant without some math or business. also discrediting the power of an alumni network like penn state is foolish when you realize that over 80% of jobs are gained from personal word of mouth or recommendations by close friends or coworkers. this video, i’m assuming, is a subconscious attempt to make yourself feel better about leaving penn state because of a mistake you consciously made which you now regret. ie dating boyfriend and not having any life plan. combined with not fitting it or performing as well as you believed you would in college i’m assuming. just to reiterate, you “had no idea what you were doing with your life” and penn was “the last school you got into” and to add to that you followed your high school boyfriend to college making you unable to properly make friends (which you later mentioned was one of the issues with college was that you weren’t making any freinds and so weren’t hanging out with people over the summer from penn. yea, you left girl. same logic if you leave any school. the social friction makes relationships strain and especially the friction of being physically hundreds of miles apart. why would we keep talking?) your grades also suffered because of this boyfriend ordeal. seems to not be the schools fault or mental health at all. no need to throw shade at penn. this is what the computer industry calls “user error.” college wasn’t for you and that’s a better video title that makes more sense to people (especially rising juniors and seniors) looking at colleges. this problem with college was clearly a personal one and shouldn’t be inspiring young adults to make the same mistakes you have. in fact i think it will inspire them to not make the cliche mistakes that you have made like taking a highschool boyfriend to college only to realize you weren’t similar or compatible in the slightest out there in the real world. it’s literally an SNL skit. PS: don’t blame the school for giving you debt if you knew full well what the price was when you went. i really do wish the best for you at your new school and back at home. you’re right to not stay in college if it is not for you. clearly it was making you unhappy and so it is especially justifiable, but making the video about why not to go to college and more specifically penn state is really shedding a bad rep for potential students who could look up to you as a role model on this platform. just an after shade you threw that i thought i’d mention. best of luck to you “adulting” in community college while living in your parents house too.

this was a really helpful breakdown. I didn’t even need to watch the video. As a potential penn state applicant I was worried watching this video but your comment reassured me that the university itself is good, she just wasn’t a good fit for it

@@notwithoutpizza4702 agreed, i watched a little bit of the video and thought this was more of a personal issue than an institution issue, which makes sense. it's all about finding yourself but no need to bury something if the responsibility falls on you.

If you decide to go out of state again, you should really try Tulane University in New Orleans. They’re a close knit community and the professors are dedicated to helping you succeed. They’ll stay after class, meet with you whenever it’s convenient to give you the help you need. The students are very friendly as well. I graduated from there and I absolutely loved it! Maybe they’re like that because it’s a private university rather than public.

Honestly, I can see the too expensive argument if you're starting from scratch. I almost did that but decided to get a two year degree from a community college first. That way I could get my gen ed courses out of the way and some core courses for the fraction of the cost and now I'll be going to a larger university to finish up the other two years. I won't save a TON, but I'll definitely save a decent amount doing it that way.

Sweet bae, I had to stop the video. You left a great school. That Penn State degree can carry you a long way. I know it is tough seeing forward given friends and social aspects that may be prioritized over studies. But studies are paramount. Study hard now. Play harder, and longer, later. Focus that 1st year should have been on finding the right plan of study that corresponds to what you want to do in life. Unlikely frienships develop out of people that share the same studies and goals, internships, coops, etc. Give it another go.

Last year, my niece paid 59,000 for her 1st year of college. Yikes I paid 64,000 for all 4 years at penn state, and I was out of state. Times have changed; college got EXPENSIVE! When I freshly graduated, I was getting job offers just because of the name. It was shocking. I know people that started at community college and ended up as physicians. You can kick ass no matter where you attend. Best of luck on your career.

“We aren’t a cult😡” *proceeds to be incapable of accepting criticism, cover up all of their problems, and wear exclusively (severely overpriced) Penn State merch* In all seriousness im sorry people judged you for switching out, I’m experiencing the same because I have a transfer offer from Georgia Tech that would actually be cheaper for me and people can’t believe that I would leave, even though in every aspect the school I’m switching to is definitively better. It’s ranked higher than MIT for my major at half the price but OH NO HOW COULD YOU LEAVE PENN STATE?!?! I took a couple classes at HACC during my gap year and honestly it was really fun and I wish I had stayed there rather than coming here. It really sucks how surface level penn state is, especially for girls. It feels like if you don’t dress talk and act a certain way you aren’t supposed to be there. I remember when I decided to transfer out: I was in class and we were told to pair up and the girl next to me physically turned her back so she wouldn’t have to be my partner. I had done literally nothing except be nice to her but the clique system here is so strong and people are not as open or accepting as they look. It’s so hard to make friends and even then if you don’t want to party all the time or you don’t get lucky enough to get season football tickets so you don’t have to pay out the nose there’s really nothing to do. They literally don’t allow you to have a car or live off campus and then charge you insane prices for the meal plan, printing, laundry, etc. and it’s so unjustifiable as somebody who has to pay their own way. Anyways, I really hope you’re enjoying school wherever you ended up

It was the opposite for me, my parents forced me to transfer out of Penn State because I was out of state. I enjoyed my major at PSU I was computational data science and earned a 3.2 gpa freshmen year. I pledged a frat spring and really vibed with the bros. Parents kinda screwed me not gonna lie. After transferring to a instate institution i earned a 0.9 gpa first semester and decided to drop out. Leaving happy valley was really the start of my downward spiral.

Payton, first of all, I respect your decision to change your path. But I need to let you know that most people who will claim to be your friends will be fake. So, I would rely less on friendships if you want to be happy in life. It is important to be self sufficient and independent, which it seems like you are and you have a good head on your shoulders. Personally, I was not able to commit to going to finish school until later in life as it "wasn't for me". I applaud you for recognizing that society's expectations are unrealistic and too cookie cutter. Be you and for you! All the power to you and I wish you the very best for your future!

is it not true that fake people attract fake friends. if you don’t act fake why would random fake people try to hang out with you? i’ve never had any fake people in my life and neither do my friends. seems to also work with how we choose our partners. it seems that people who choose shitty partners who are assholes seem to do it over and over again like my friend mike. the guys asking for it with how he acts and we tell him this girls no good for him but it never gets through to him. not everyone can change. evaluate yourself to realize if your fake before you trash others for perhaps doing it just because you are. sweet
