I was thinking of leaving the trucking industry for railroad conductor. My concern is the pace. Is the pace of the work so fast that safety takes a back seat? I am sure by now you heard of the train derailment in East Palestine OH. Here is my opinion: The rail car needed to be at the customer, that dispatch pushed the train past safety. Please let me know what you think of the pace of the work?

Very good information, I really appreciate your videos. I've wanted to join the railroad since I was in my 20's but just never did for one reason or another. I am presently 61 years old with no medical issues and still have the desire to work for NS. 2 questions... 1). Will they even seriously consider someone my age? I realize that they can't discriminate for age but they could simply not hire me and give another reason. 2). I know the pay per hour and that it is an on-call positon, although is there anyway you could tell me about how many hours per week a conductor can be looking at (just from your experience). 3). And lastly, what is your thoughts on the reputation the railroad has with furloughs. I just read where NS has decided to end the furlough policy. It's only been a couple days since I applied so I haven't heard anything about an interview yet. But here is hoping.

I hear some bitterness in your commentary and I am sorry for what you experienced. I think you are exactly the sort of person that the railroad needs in their workforce with your diligence and focus. Not many of your age can do this job since there is a lack of discipline and maturity in their mindset. I hope you decide to try again and build enough seniority so that you can hold a regular position.
