I am in the same boat, Wes. It is a difficult subject to discuss with Americans who have not traveled or lived abroad, let alone their home area. They tend to blankly stare when you tell them your experiences, as if their operating system suddenly overloaded and are performing a hard reboot. It's a tough topic to even broach as so many lack the context to comprehend why or how someone would leave the US.

I am 62 and will be moving to the Philippines from the US this fall. If I could afford it, I would move to Singapore. For me, it's two things: 1. I am invisible. 2. Toxic politics. I want the best for everyone, which makes me 'woke,' which no one can define. The main thing people don't understand is this: The US can be $38,000,000,000 in debt only because of its huge military.

Oh my goodness- I can’t tell you how good it is too hear someone pointing out SO MANY broken aspects of the US. The US was so awesome and it has the raw materials to be so amazing again, if we can get out of our own way. But you really hit the big pic of it all. Money has pushed most of these problems into insane levels. But keep praying for not only the US but the rest of the world - because even though the values of these other cultures appear relatively more intact, they too are under massive attack of the same current forces. (Perhaps a video on the research of then and now of - housing, jobs and values.. THANKS AGAIN WES!

Hollywood movies and US Immigration lies to international students and foreign workers that America is about freedom and democracy and opportunities. There used to be money. But now I have nothing to look forward to. Everything about life here is either too expensive or too difficult. I saw this coming back in 2008 and I have been trying to escape since 2010. I have no one in my life except for two friends and some immediate family. I finally have options for college but getting a job is so hard. The community is getting scarce. There's nothing left for me here but survival and even that is getting next to impossible.

I live in America after having grown up in Asia. I've also traveled to a lot of countries in Europe, S. America, and Asia so I think I also have a decently informed perspective on this. I can confidently say that for me, USA is still the best country in the world to live in. The one major downside is really cost of living as it's expensive to live in California. The more desirable something is, the costlier it is. But if you can afford it, no other place in the world comes close for the combination of weather, people, nature, services, and lifestyle.

The US actually had very good public transit system in all major cities before 1950s. For example, in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, LA did have a very extensive streetcar network that went all the way the San Bernardino. It was demolished to make way for the car and freeways. There are still plenty of remnants of it today. The made reason the US doesn't have good public transit is all the car centric land use policies. Zoning. Large lot single use zoning makes walking difficult think of a plaza with only big box stores and suburbs with only single family homes. Each area is uncomfortable to walk and getting to and from is very time consuming even if they are next to each other. Public transport is good when it connects walkable areas together. Parking requirements. These effectively flattens out the city as each indoor space must be matched with parking. Take NYC for example, for NYC to comply with parking requirements, 1 out of every 3 buildings would have to be leveled or turned into parking garages. That means less business, less housing, less people who need to be there, the subway would lose a ton of revenue and it wouldn't justify the operating and maintenance costs let alone expansion. Federal Highways Funding. The competition for public transit is car based transport. Car based transport is subsidized massively by the Federal Government. $60 Billion for 2024. The deficit of Amtrak covered by the government is like $600 million. Thats a multiple of close to 100. If the states had to foot the bill, they wouldn't make them. The destruction of these highways over the years is also quite staggering. Many poor neighborhoods and ethnic enclaves completely destroyed by the highways. Like in Roger Rabbit. There is a whole lot more like minimum lot sizes, height restrictions, set backs, bureaucratic and expensive permitting, city boundaries, NIMBY activism and obstruction, environmental lawsuits, historical preservation, excessive building codes, Federal land preservation (too much), etc. Its really not capitalism, but excessive government regulation over land use to benefit the few that already own property. la.curbed.com/2018/9/6/17825186/los-angeles-streetcar-map-red-pacific-electric

With little life experience to know any better, you do that, When you get a certain age, you ask yourself is this all that there is to life? Corp give you 5% or 10% raises to help you enjoy life a little more with nicer things but nothing to make you more empowered in your destiny or personal goals. You are stuck in the hamster wheel. The puzzle is really how to do take control of your life and live the fullest life.

I went back to the Dominican Republic where my family is from and the quality of new homes that are being built out paces that of the U.S. You’re right, the college system in the U.S. is a scam. So is the healthcare system too. You break a leg in the U.S., hopefully you have good insurance or face losing one’s home due to the financial burden. Everything is profit in the U.S. If a child wants to be a doctor when they grow up, and you ask them why they want to be a doctor.. they would normally say.. “I want to help people”.. once that child grows up and you ask that child the same question… their response “ I want to be make money and be rich”.

So there's some dichotomies here. You have a very strong work ethic so ultimately you could have done very well in the USA (financially). Also, your views of being socially conservative but economically liberal are all but dead politically in the USA. That used to exist in the USA before deindustrialization. But the decline of unions (which went with deindustrialization) means they don't back candidates who back their views anymore and thus there are very few politicians in the USA who would agree with your views. I personally don' adhere to your views, but I'm one of those who believe that diversity of viewpoints and compromise is good. Unfortunately, I'm also a dinosaur politically.

I have been living, and loving, Bogota Colombia ever since. I am retired, and I will be applying for my retirement visa in a few weeks. The United States is a fallacy when we are taught that it is the best nation in the world. It is in decline, and as history has shown us. All great nations must fall. I wish this was not the case, but greed and dis-respect for other humanity has taking its toll on the United States.

Generally agree, but you have the privilege of being an expat, not an immigrant. If things ever go bad overseas, you know you can come back to the US. You won’t be accused of stealing local jobs and diluting local culture. Also, I would argue that it’s not the ‘woke’ culture (after all, Western Europeans are even more liberal on average), but the moneyed interests you mention have partnered with right wing opportunists & fascists to turn America into a bunker mentality. Curious for you to talk to immigrants in those countries and get their perspectives. Great observations though.

"everybody wants to move to the United States" you say? You're not serious right? 90% of those wanting to move there are people from third world countries and under develloped countries AND who are on the same continent as they just go where it's more convenient for them on geographic standpoint and where they think, often wrongly, they'll have a better life (USA and Canada) compared to their home countries. The vast majority of people from first world countries/devellopped countries (especially from Europe) have absolutely no desire to ever move to USA, it's just a third world country disguised as a first world country to us and has nothing good to offer us besides the entertainment industry that we can access from anywhere in the world anyway and a few natural wild spaces i nthe west. As for myself, I'm from Europe and USA would probably not even be in my first Top 30 countries (including some under developped countries) I'd move to, it's a shithole there for many of us Europeans.

Not so easy for a person with a family to raise, parents they love, and a slew of other social connections, which they want to be close to in the States. These positive aspects of life far outweigh any negative aspects of life in the U.S.

@@imagesinla8575Maybe he should give up his U.S. citizenship and stop asking viewers for good ‘ol’ American green backs too? Get a job in his favorite country? Any and every country has there set of problems up and down the spectrum.

Europeans and Australians travel more. Also Americans are trying to extract money from you. And it's dangerous because of crime and law enforcement.

Gambling companies have lots of money to sponsor sports which in other case would just die out. Also sports are not interesting without gambling. Who is gonna watch the same thing thousand times again and again ? But if you made a bet you are personally involved. That is how boxing started in the first place - there were streets fights and people were making bets on who was gonna win. Btw Europe has also tons of gambling sites no difference from the US there ...

We are sorry to lose you. Yes, the system is about money. Try traveling the world without money. Your spiritual, physical, and mental health is your responsibility. America is large enough where you can choose where you want to live. You don't have to be stuck in one place where there is no good food. I agree the demands on American men are absolutely ridiculous.

Beautifully well said! in this video. while the money you make in the United States but I rather trade that off for a better life over then in the United States. I do have to get a plan in place and make sure I have plan B going for me. I know not everyone will agree with my decisions of moving but I don´t care at this point and that´s okay. I´m currently in France for Holiday and I love every minute of it, sadly Ill be leaving for back to the United States.

the best of both worlds. Make US money and live elsewhere. 😂 it’s pretty sad and upsetting. I do believe we have the potential to offer a great life for our citizens if we can stop being the world police and invest in our own country. why sending Israel $80 billions while our own people are starving and needing help. 🙄

*What the heck am I paying all this money for?* THIS. I loved the cultural differences I've experienced in other countries. Felt good to be in a place where all the USA things I didn't care about weren't even in the air as passing conversation. They simply just didn't exist there. Even in the rare occasion that something was more expensive, it was WAY better quality. Netherlands has ruined Whoppers and public transportation for me! Also bring back shame!
