This is a rare RS3 video because it's made by an owner of the car who's lived with it for 2 months (most reviews are based on press cars). In it I explain why the RS 3 saloon is one of my favourite cars ever. Yes it's different to the Golf GTI Clubsport S which I was privileged to own for 22 months but it's good in so many different ways if a little less focused.
Apologies about the audio quality in places - I am working with old and damaged equipment which KZfaq earnings won't pay for the replacement of - please like, share, comment and subscribe as all this helps me get views which eventually may mean I can afford to do this.

Nice drive ;) I also remember your Stelvio RS3 trip. This engine in hatch category was also for me the most right choice. Probably you already know, you can fully open the roof with a stronger push of the “button” to his further position. Exact same logic as the windows controlers. Also full roof tilt and full close can by perform with stronger pull up/down.

Hi CandyX1979. Thanks for the tips on the sunroof. I think when filming you just want to be 100% sure it will do what you want it to do hence why I kept my hand there plus keeping it there shows the viewers that something is happening (because the blind was closed it was hard to see it opening). You are going to tell me the blind is electric too next aren't you :)

I can imagine the complexity about what all to think over by shooting when you want also some fleuntly and meaningful words talking. ...with the blind you're absolut right - electric exactly like the cabin front vents positioning :) Enjoy every ride with that synfonic engine ;)

Andrew, congrats on the new purchase, it certainly looks really smart in silver with the black accents and there is no denying the epic sound. Shame the golf had to go but enjoy the Suffolk roads in the audi

Thanks Alan, I loved the Clubsport S but it always felt a bit wasted on the road and was a bit spartan in it's goal to be a 'ring record breaker. RS 3 is a lot heavier but it's so comfy when you aren't in the mood and I quite like all the gadgets and the way you have to learn its ways when it comes to making the most of its chassis.

Isn’t the Audi just an expensive Volkswagen? I went to their factory and they discussed the fact they have few architectures to make many cars at different price points. I worked in food and it is a similar principle but obviously with a much smaller margin.

thanks h4xor1701! Back in the day the RS3 wasn't really seen as a proper RS but the 8V version launched in 2015 changed that and this facelift car confirms it's definitely up there with the best of them.

Lovely work on the video mate! The new RS3's (2017/18) always been a dream car obviously after the Clubsport/Clubsport S models were released which we both owned. Then i would like to add Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrofoglio to the list! These are the 3 cars iv found most interesting released the 3 past years or so.. Powerwise the RS3 is insane! I just wonder how much better the comfort is compared to ie the Clubsport. I personally feel Audis are very high priced. Anyone can give a good opinion on why they would be worth more than Double the price of a Clubsport would be very interesting to hear thanks... :)

Thanks 3DFX :) I'd love others to express their opinions so don't let me stop anyone by replying, the more the merrier. The Clubsport is a better comparison with RS3 than Clubsport S as it can be specced in a similar way (5 door, back seats, DSG). Stick a few options on a Clubsport (when you could order them) and they could get close to £40k. It's hard to work out the nearest equivalent spec to RS3 but you'd need leather, DSG, 5 doors, 19" wheels, keyless and you'd still not have four wheel drive, you'd be 110 or 135 hp behind and 1 gear shorter. Sometimes the lines get confused but Audi is a more prestigious brand (which some people will find worth paying extra for) and especially so with RS/Audi Sport sub-brand. RS3 does feel better made than a Golf, material quality is better, design inside and out is a little more adventurous, paint in particular looks more durable. I think RRP of RS3 is optimistic but there are some good deals available used due to a degree of WLTP deadline pre-registration. All you really need by way of options is the sports exhaust and supersports seats and maybe the wider front tyres.

@@volkswizard Thanks alot for the detailed comparision! 👍 Seems like a fair one. We specced leather seats, DSG, DCC, 5 doors, 18 inch, etc etc on the 2017 Clubsport i own. So i suppose its comparable in terms of that. But in terms of power basically not alot on roads should come close to an RS3. What i am afraid of however is you say comfort is worse in RS3. By that iguess you mean the ride? So id say if its specced with 19 inch maby thats the case? Ud probably need Audis equvalient to DCC to keep up. Maby investing in better dampers if needed. But however ithink the seats in the Audi's nowadays generally look comfier than in a Golf. Well obviosly coz its a bigger car i suppose. But im not sure you buy a performance car that much for comfort reasons. Coz the thing is, this is some of the few complaints i had in the Golf - The seats. But thats coming from experience of a Volvo V70 Classic businiss class before.. You have any say on this comfort topic..? 🙂

Oh yes indeed, RS3 is very comfortable. My wife is a better test of this as you notice it more of a passenger and she says getting out of it is like having to leave your bed on a cold morning. The standard seats are oK, the Supersport options are really no less comfortable, just a little sexier to look at. They seem to have given up on the idea of proper bucket seat with harness slots and very prominent bolsters. Only point is that the standard seats can be had with electric adjustment, Supersports can't.

Fantastic video. Nice spec too on yours👌🏼 Really want an RS3 saloon to be my next car. Prefer it massively over the hatch. Can't quite justify the monthly repayments at the moment. I already have and love my Mk7 Golf GTI Performance. But maybe one day.

Hi Darren, GTI PP is a great car but in a different way and they are superb value for money so don't feel like you are missing too much because you aren't, enjoy it!

Sounds superb!!! Big fan of the RS3 saloon too. Not seen many in the West Midlands yet. I would upgrade the security system if I owned the car especially where I live. 👍

Hi Many, true they are rare. You do need to be extra careful in West Mids with a car like this. Similar silver one was stolen from Coventry not long ago hence why I am hiding plates so it doesn't get cloned. Extra security is wise as is deactivating the keyless entry function.

Odd question but would you reckon you could flatten the back seats and sleep with your legs in the boot comfortably if you had a mattress or is there not enough space.

Roll on the long awaited Golf R 400 mk8 for me but will it be a hybrid package 2019/20 Nice motor though Andrew. What would the as new configurator price be for the spec you have?

£43765 standard, as specced it comes to....£57010.79 ! He got £6700 off as it was a cancelled order. It's got the £1600 speed limiter increase from 155 mph to 174 mph which is of dubious use even in Germany but other than that it's an indulgent spec but a very well chosen one.

DUDE are the R400 FINALLY going to be released with the MK8 generation ?? I waited for that one for AGES then the diselgate came. So i had to buy the Clubsport instead - Check my channel for videos! Iv been hyped for what MK8 will bring for ages though in general...

@@tredfxman I so wanted this as well .www.volkswagen.co.uk/about-us/concept-cars/r400 Ironically VW could have produced this over 2 years ago and would have been well ahead of the competitors and boosted sales for the R range. offsetting some of the Dieselgate crap!

How does this compare to Handling over the Rocco R that you tested? On the PQ35

Hi Kris, good question. Scirocco feels lighter on its feet like a good hot hatch and a lot simpler in what it can do up to the limits of grip. The new clever AWD of the RS3 makes you want to push it beyond the limits of grip to see what the ESC and AWD can come up with and it's addictive to try and work it out as clearly a lot of effort has gone into fighting understeer. Bear in mind the Scirocco doesn't even have the VAQ front diff of GTI PP and Cupra so traction is limited but it's still a fun car to throw around and has plenty of grip in the dry if on decent tyres.

I'm not sure MQB is that different apart from maybe wider in track but Scirocco is wide track anyway compared to Golf.

@@volkswizard As you may know, I own a 2015 SciroccoR and made mild mods to it. I have just driven on a 2400 km road trip on every type of road imaginable in all weather's.. I even did my first track day in it at the same time. It was near perfect with adaptive dampers, sport settings, pilot 4S tyres etc. Even has space inside! But the RS3 for me would be perfect as it has more power, more space and AWD. Though my R still looks cool is lighter and half the price (here) so hard to justify the upgrade. Great video as always. I think so. You get the prestige of an RS Audi, nicer interior, far more engaging engine, more performance, more luxury and exclusivity. This car would sell for £45k ish today with 2k miles so effectively as new. The two Rs in my videos from September were very similar in price, even the red, cloth trimmed estate!

Paper wraps stone, R8 wraps RS3. RS3 was always going to go when I found a house but that's taking ages and an R8 came along at right price/spec/condition. As it's the car I've always aspired to I couldn't say no and believe you me I wanted to find fault with it but couldn't so I bought it and while waiting for the flight back put RS3 up for sale. When the house gets bought (months minimum) I may sell it but I don't want to. There is nowhere for me to go from this car, don't really want a V10 due to mpg and I gather the engine is a little more Lambo in its reliability and I don't have the £65k needed to get a V10 Plus from a dealer and not sure I ever will want to fork out that much for an older car than this one. However if I can get a decent house in the area I want, cars, at least expensive pointless ones like R8/RS3/Clubsport S can wait for a bit. A lot hangs on how much current house sells for and how much new house. Wouldn't want to compromise on house for a car and £50k will go along way in stretching budget to a house I want rather than one I have to have. Let's see what happens!

@@volkswizard Andrew your priority is the correct one. Best roof over your head first,plenty of time for cars later. We are currently doing similar, so the Porsche may go and or the Golf R. The new UP GTi will do me fine,the missus has got a new Polo GTi on order to replace her Polo GTi 1.8 . Good luck with house sale and purchase,God it's a stressful time.

@@volkswizard Andrew thanks mate I am baring you in mind for my UPGTi which is due for shifting from 1st March,as my new higher spec replacement arrives. I am greatly torn on shifting the Boxster and the Golf R, I do have two neighbours who have express interest in them before.It will depend on house purchase finances , consequently my head may have to overrule my petrolhead heart. Good question. Of those that I have driven it has to be the Up! GTI as it's brought the GTI badge to a smaller segment and against all odds actually made a decent fist of it reminding people of the joys of a simple yet fun fastish car. Only selling mine as it no longer suits my needs. RS 3 saloon is a close second though because it's made small soon cars desirable again, before they were always seen as a bit rubbish (see VW Jetta) :)
