one major problem I have with Toy Story 4 is the inconsistencies of Bo's character. She went from Woody's love interest with a kind heart to a strong independent woman that takes control of situations easily, that's all fine considering she's been on her own for all those years but the film acts like she's always been like that and even show the flashback at the beginning of the movie of her acting like a co leader with woodie even though the previous movies never showed that.

Absolutely! They broke the golden rule - bros before hoes! It's the Bro Code! They totally WRECKED an awesome team that's been through every kind of horror a toy can endure TOGETHER! And for what? To get a bunch of celebrities to put their voices into a lazy cash grab and sell a bunch of merchandise! Shame on them! What a rotten way to end a beloved series!

So true. Also, Disney made a goodbye video for Ralph and Venelope separating, even though they still stayed in contact. But, they didn't make one for Woody and Buzz, yet they have no way to stay in contact. It's horrible! Buzz and Woody are the ideal characters of friends and they took them a part just because they wanted to give Woody "character development" that would completely demolish his character.

It's so stupid and I despise the "friends/family leaving each other" trope. You don't need to make the characters separate cause that's not always necessary for character development, and it just feels emotionally cheap. Frozen 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and Toy Story 4 are some egregious examples. How To Train Your Dragon 3 was bound to come, but the way the writers handled it left a bad taste in my mouth.

You're right about Bonnie. All of you are. I know Forky was "the most important toy" to her at one moment, but to tell you something, kids change their minds on a whim, which means when she wakes up one day, she might decide that she wants to play with Woody again. But because she can't find him she's gonna start crying about it realizing that she broke her promise to Andy and Buzz, Jessie and the other toys aren't gonna be able to do anything about it because they have no idea where in the world Woody is! And it's all thanks to Josh Cooley!

My problem is there is a LOT of abusive and manipulative undertones in this movie. I'm someone who was stuck in TWO manipulative and emotionally abusive relationships and this movie really made me not just annoyed but angry. It takes a lot for me to become angry at a film, but the way Bo Peep talks to Woody, gaslights him and treats him is gross. She's less a love interest and more this weird controlling person. Then you have the whole thing with Gabby Gabby trying to take Woody's voice box. First she forces him and we won't get into the whole tone of "consent" there, but then she takes ALL the information she coaxed out of Forky and uses it to MANIPULATE Woody into giving her the voice box. This movie is a MESS of abusive undertones and it unsettles me.

It's uncalled for, yes. But the point of her words is that Woody lacks identity outside his owner. He needs to find his own self outside everyone else. His decision is a bit extreme yes, but ultimately sometimes people need to step away from their past to find who they will be in their future.

@@PathBeyondTheDark Well I agree with Jori Joestar. I never liked how Bo treated Woody either. A good message to convey to kids is that sometimes people change over the years, and it goes to show that someone you loved when you were younger doesn't stay the same person as time passes. And Bo Peep is a perfect example of that. But to see Woody stay with her in the end just because he loves her (but she also verbally abuses him) absolutely disgusts me. You do know that, do you?

There's this one scene that I remember when Woody and Bo got to the pinball machine club. When Woody asks, "Uh, what are we doing--?" and then Bo says "Shh! Just stand there and be quiet." Jeez Louise. All he did was ask her a simple question and all she could do in response is aggressively tell him to shut up and stand by doing nothing? What is wrong with her? Woody is doing everything in his power to help her and this is how she treats him? Good grief. Maybe it's for the best that she left him when she did; I mean clearly she has no respect for him whatsoever anymore. Then Bo told Woody that she would do the talking, as if he's some kind of idiot and that she has such a way with words. So Tin Toy lets them into the pinball machine and upon asking her if Woody is her friend, she says, "My friend? No, no, no, he's my accessory." This goes to show that she is a terrible compassionless person with no respect for anybody anymore. Plus that comment she said to Tin Toy about Woody made me wanna jump into the movie so I can give her a piece of my mind. I mean, come on, Woody's a toy, not an accessory!

What gets on my nerves is that in the movie its established it had only been a month since Woody was last played with. Compare that to the years the other toys had to endear in a box in the 3rd movie. Incredibly hypocritical and out of character. Disney recently with their sequels has been doing this whole "friends splitting" plot that really gets on my nerves because it's never done right. Ralph had to learn in the first Wreck It Ralph that his role in Fix It Felix JR is important and the game wouldn't be the same without him and that game-jumping is dangerous and against the rules. Vanellope left Sugar Rush in Wreck It Ralph 2 because she got bored of her game and they completely forget the first film ever happened. They never bring it up, and we're supposed to just accept it as it is. In Frozen, Elsa feels completely isolated and unwelcome everywhere she goes because of what she did to her sister when they were younger. She couldn't forgive herself, but at the end, she finally accepts Anna's act of true love and the two sisters rejoice and they both rule over their kingdom together. in Frozen 2, she just leaves. Why? Because she heard a mysterious voice coming from the woods. She literally just abandons her sister and kingdom to go live in the woods. The movie tries to excuse it as her "calling" to become the new guardian of the land, but it literally comes out of nowhere at the end, like it was a last-minute decision and they wanted to shock the audience. The only movie I can think of to do this plot-point right is How To Train Your Dragon 3 because they had a valid reason for it instead of throwing it in to make people cry. For the entire movie series, there have been multiple dragon hunters that Hiccup had to face and defeat so it was pretty clear the franchise would eventually come to this. In the movie, Hiccup tries to reason with the villain who is another dragon hunter, only that he is a lot different than the others in the way he approaches achieving his goal, and he gets a wake-up call and realize that dragons will always be hunted by humans so he seeks to find a rumored "hidden world" so they could lead them all there to live peacefully. It makes sense to the franchise and it was executed right.

People completely miss the point of TS4. Woody doesn’t leave because he isn’t played with. He is shown to be played with briefly during the road-trip montage. The reason Woody sticks beside Andy for so long because is because he had a long standing deep personal connection. He is unwilling to accept any alternative from Andy for most of the movie. His arc in TS3 is learning to let go of Andy and finally move on to something new. In TS4, Woody feels like his purpose has been fulfilled through Andy going off to college. He has slowly come to realize that Bonnie doesn’t love or need Woody the same way Andy did and therefore Woody can’t be there for her the same way he was there for Andy. But that’s ok because Woody is still sticking by Bonnie. He’s doing everything he can to take care of her even though he is unnoticed and unappreciated. He follows her to kindergarten when she is scared, but stays hidden and never tries to take the glory for himself. He jumps out of the window of a moving RV just to rescue and return a Spork because he knows it will make her happy. (TS1 Woody would’ve let Forky just fly away). He is going out of his way to look out for Bonnie at every turn. Then he is reunited with Bo Peep who has been on her own for years. Introducing Woody to a whole new lifestyle for toys. A lifestyle he once believed to be one of the worst case scenarios for a toy. He learns that being lost and ownerless doesn’t have to be a bad thing. He starts to realize that there are lots of toys that have been lost their entire lives and have never had an owner or even been played with once. After helping Gabby unite with the lost girl at the carnival it reignites a passion and fulfillment inside of him that he hasn’t felt in a long time. He has finally discovered a new purpose outside of being with a kid. He can help lost toys find owners and potentially create the same bond that he once had with Andy and briefly Bonnie. But even after all of this he isn’t willing to leave until after Buzz gives Woody his blessing and assures him that Bonnie will be ok and taken care of by the rest of them. If the only reason he left was because he wasn’t played with or because of Bo then he could’ve and would’ve left much earlier in the film. The previous movies have hinted and nearly gone through with Woody and the rest of the gang separating as well. In TS2, Woody very nearly goes to the museum and twice in TS3. Once when Woody leaves the group at Sunnyside to go back to Andy and again towards the end of the movie when Woody nearly goes to college while the others would’ve gone to the attic. I do agree that Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen II did this very poorly. The reason it’s handled so badly in Ralph 2 is because the first movie hammers home the rules and consequences of going Turbo and the sequel completely ignores it. Plus they made Vanellope want to abandon the game that she spent the entire first movie fighting to be a part of right from the start of the sequel. And in Frozen II it just comes completely out of nowhere. Maybe if I rewatched the movie there might be some clues and foreshadowing but I just have no desire to do so. I haven’t seen HTTYD3 but I’ve heard it’s good. Wasn’t much of a fan of HTTYD2 tbh but will still give 3 a shot.

I agree with you, even though I kind of liked Frozen 2. And I'm glad you point out The Hidden World ending for the Dreamworks Dragons series as acceptable. I know it's not what this video is about, but I feel like many dislike the ending of HTTYD 3, because "Toothless left his best friend for a girl". It's not the only reason, it's obvious in the movie itself that the dragons left to be kept safe. Night Furies were literally hunt to extinction. Unless the Night Lights had some incest going on later generations, after taking on Light Fury mates the first few times, Night Fury genes would be gone. There's plenty of Light Furies in the Hidden World, too. Sure, Hiccup and the vikings could've kept their dragons and fought against all odds together, but Toothless has the best chance of raising a family and pass on his genes, if they're in the Hidden World. They wouldn't have to worry about being a target. And Berk was a target because of all the dragons they had. They made the decision to free their dragons, so neither side had to worry to that extent. With no dragons left on the surface, they wouldn't have to worry about other vikings attacking them with powerful types either. It's also heavily implied Berk has most of the population of dragons in one place, so when those followed Alpha Toothless underground, the surface dragons would likely seek out the rest and find the place, or die out. With some imagination, it's not that hard to make the ending believable. Besides, Hiccup and Toothless weren't seperated forever. They can visit eachother, and still care.

Toy story 4 implies that Woody loves Bo peep more than Andy. Considering that the focus of the trilogy is Woody's relationship with Andy, it just cheapens the experience of the first 3 movies. The fact that Bo is barely even a cameo in the first two movies and not even present in 3, I just find it hard to believe that after Woody had given up one of the most important people in his life to be with Buzz, Jessie, Slink, Mr. Potato head and the rest of the gang, that he just abandons them after a few months for his crush from 5+ years ago. I still can't get behind the idea of "lost toys" in general. I mean...the movie animates the toys way TOO MUCH this time. It all started with a simple "what if the toys are alive while you're not playing with them" concept which was fun and every child kinda thought about it more than once in their lives. But for some reason they've come up with this new concept of toys basically being homeless, moving from place to place, playing with random kids on playgrounds instead of choosing a single owner. I mean -...what? It doesn't really make much sense. They are *toys* - basically unanimated objects which can be easily broken or torn apart by some careless kid (remember Sid? His toys were basically like walking corpses of sorts - neither of them could speak and it didn't feel like they were happy to be burried in his backyard) - and they still won't be able to do anything about it. They STILL fully depend on humans because - oh yeah, Bo Peep uses tape to repair her own arm but would she be able to fix her HEAD if it's shuttered in pieces? Or, are they just gonna be on the run forever, looking completely worn out so no child will ever want to play with them. What would they do then, what would their purpose in life be? I mean it's kind of a good message for people not to be limited by only what they have or think they only have, but with toys it really doesn't make much sense.

Everytime someone tries to defend the ending of ts4 of Woody abandoning his friends it's always "Well, Woody needed to discover himself" Or " Woodys mission is fulfilled now he's gonna live his own life" And I'm just thinking, wat?.... The narrative and concept for toys in Toy Story is toys come to life and their purpose is to bring joy to a child, as Buzz once said: "Life's only worth living if you're being loved by a kid" THAT'S IT. I fully agree. Aside from the main theme and plot, the Gabby subplot also frustrated me because the whole 'being made with a faulty voice box' situation can easily come off as a disability metaphor but in the end they just "fixed" her instead of helping her succeed the way she is. It felt gross, especially since she used harassment and manipulation to get what she wanted in the first place. I can understand where the disability comparisons come from, but I don’t necessarily agree. The movie establishes right from Gabby’s introduction that her voice box can be fixed very easily if she gets the right parts. Most disabilities can’t be fixed, at least not entirely. And the voice box itself isn’t even attached to her like it is for Woody or other toys. She could get rid of the voice box altogether is she wanted to. It is really more of an insecurity for Gabby. She thinks she needs to be perfect to get a child’s love and attention. But she ultimately realizes that even with her voice fixed there will still be some kids who don’t like/want her. This could be applied to the disability metaphor too where just because her disability was “fixed” doesn’t mean she automatically got everything she wanted.

I really hate what they did to Bonnie in this film. Let's get it straight: it is completely realistic for her to forget about her old toys in favour of new ones. But the Toy Story franchise has been willing to do what is satisfying over what is realistic. The writers of the original 3 movies were very aware that the sentimental way Andy took care of his toys was a little strange. They admitted that they themselves were closer to Sid when they played with toys. But they understood that if they wrote Andy to be realistic and callous with his toys, then the audience wouldn't like him and wouldn't understand why the toys always want to be with him. In 3 and the toon shorts, they wrote Bonnie with a similar philosophy. She's similarly very caring to her toys, greeting them when she comes into her room and is very keen to integrate new toys into her play time with old toys. She draws pictures of them, which is not really something most kids do, but it makes her endearing and makes Andy's passing down of the toys to her feel like it was worth it. She was always a shy girl who's real energised personality becomes clear when she's alone with the toys. The issue with 4 is that they knew that if they wrote her the way they had been doing, then we would feel really for her when her precious Cowboy chooses to leave her. So they wrote her to be an annoying callous child who forgets her toys. Remember how she would include new toys in play times with old toys? Well now she totally forgets her old toys and doesn't realize when they're missing. Maybe she lost Totoro and the peas at the playground and never ever realized, with how quickly she forgot about Woody, it's total possible. Imagine if they made an UP sequel, and we realize Russell lost the Ellie badge. That super meaningful gift that Carl gave to him as a symbol of love and respect? A memento from his dead wife? Russell lost it in the wash, it's gone now. After all, it's completely realistic, you lose small items all the time. But people would HATE Russell after that. That's basically what they did to Bonnie. Imagine if they followed the time skip rule that the other films followed, and Bonnie's now a preteen or something. Instead of outgrowing toys like most children do, she's instead become interested in repairing toys and making customs. After making Forky in kindergarten, thus has a become a passion for her. It would be like what Sid was doing but put into a new light. Maybe she runs into the antique shop in town, and bonds with the elderly owner who makes her feel better about having a strange passion. Maybe Bo is on sell there, and Woody and can run into her there and it would be cool to see how she's grown and changed without Woody around. I think it would have been cool.

Toy Story 4’s director leaned hard into the idea of the toys being parental figures, which makes the ending of, “Leave your kids to run off with your girlfriend”, be so sick. The movie has lthe exact opposite message as any of the other movies, and puts it in a context that actually make the message more toxic than it could ever have been in the previous installments.

I honestly forget 4 exists, and I think the biggest memory I have about it is being confused because the first reviews I heard of when it was in theaters were mixed. The movie was pretty, but I'm not sure I agree that it was great. I don't like how they handled Buzz. The 'inner conscious' thing where he was pushing his buttons to figure out what to do was so far out of character. Woody was absolutely butchered. Even in the fourth movie he goes on about how having a child to look after makes his life complete. The whole point of giving up the voice box is how having a child to play with is wonderful. Yet he turns his back on everyone else for Bo who has just showed up after like nine years I think it was? Also Bonnie was playing with him. We see her playing with him in the RV. Maybe she wasn't playing with him often, but that's still a really weak reason to just turn around and leave. Woody's whole character is founded on loyalty to his child and the other toys. I don't see anything in this movie that leads me to believe he has a good reason to change his mind. The whole scene with the RV and GPS breaks suspension of disbelief so horribly. Honestly a lot of the movie feels like the writers got themselves into a corner and didn't know how to get themselves out. So plot convenience even if it makes no sense!

Something not many people realize is that, after the first film, Woody is basically the "father figure", so to speak, of Andy's toys: he's the one who keeps them together, the one who leads them, and the one who manages to lift their mood wherever he's around because he doesn't lose hope, he's always moving forward. He's basically the link that keeps the whole gang together. Now imagine, with him gone, that Andy's toys (and also Bonnie's at this point) encounter a big problem like in the third movie, for example. In the third movie, the toys are able to escape their containers, but they only manage to escape the daycare when Woody comes back. So if they ever happen to find themselves in big trouble, and with poor Buzz having been dumbed down, they would be screwed. A leader in a group has a very importante role: to keep a cool head, know everyone's strenghts and weaknesses, avoid fear and chaos in the group, and with that, form a plan to get them out of any bad situation using everyone's strenghts to the whole group's advantage. Well, not anymore for these guys, unless they find a new leader who takes the time to know all of them like Woody did, and all of that before a new calamity happens. GG Pixar.

Bonnie and Ducky sole purpose was for Disney to sell more toys. There barely contribute to the plot and there was no reason for them to follow Buzz after they fell from the prize wall. The man could have easily put them there again. Sorry for the ones who love those two but they definetly fell to the scrappy category.

My thoughts exactly. Toy Story 4 feels so out of character for Woody. They really should've just left it at 3. I remember seeing the 3rd one in theaters with my dad and everybody, including us, sobbing in the theater. I'll never forget this giant muscular man and his elderly mom sitting behind us also sobbing at the end. When I saw the 4th one, I left the theater just so confused and disappointed. Not bad if it were a stand alone film, but when you connect it with the 3 previous films, it just doesn't feel right. I love Disney but you can just tell they were so money hungry when they decided to make this film and I just choose to not acknowledge Toy Story 4 as part of the canon franchise, just like how I don't acknowledge Cars 2 lol

I disagree with you. The Toy Story trilogy is perfect and it only got BETTER with 2 and 3. The animation is stunning, the storylines are deeply heartfelt and emotional and the characters feel like family (speaking for myself, I am emotionally invested in these characters and I WEPT at the end of the third movie). I LOATHE Toy Story 4 for several reasons. First of all, it wasn't even NEEDED. Everything was wrapped up perfectly with the third movie. It COMPLETELY CHEAPENS and insults Bonnie's promise to Andy at the end of the third movie....she SPECIFICALLY wanted Woody and she PROMISED Andy that she would take care of Woody and the rest...ONLY TO REPLACE WOODY WITH LITERAL TRASH. Who EVEN SAYS he is trash. He does NOT endear himself to us like Buzz and Jessie do in the first two movies....he is trash and that's it. WHY is this character the replacement for Woody (who has been, up until this point, the heart and soul of the Toy Story movies???) Secondly, they completely violated and destroyed both Buzz AND Woody's characters in the fourth film. He saves Woody from Sid's dog in the first movie and gets them back to Andy. In the second movie, Buzz clearly establishes his loyalty to Woody by going to rescue Woody from Al. He's willing to risk everything to get his friend back. In the third movie, he's willing to risk everything AGAIN, when they are about to be shredded and burned, to help Woody free Lotso when he's trapped under the golf bag. No hesitation...no little voice telling him what to do. He's there for his friend. In this movie, I DO NOT see that loyalty AT ALL from Buzz. Yes, he DOES initially go to look for Woody, but then, he just stands there and allows the stuffed toys to beat Woody up on the roof of the antique store and when Woody wants to go back to find the stupid Fork Face HE LEAVES and abandons Woody and returns to the RV because some stupid voice on the button said to do that. in the end, he ENCOURAGES Woody to go with the stupid Bo Peep (who BTW, didn't even seem all that happy to see Woody. She seemed more annoyed that Woody had found her and like he was interfering with her new life....which makes his choice to stay with her over Bonnie even MORE painful. And, rather than staying with Bonnie, Woody chooses her (which Woody doing that COMPLETELY shatters his strongest character trait...that, as you say, he is loyal to his child (Andy and Bonnie) and to this family he has created with Buzz and the other toys. Buzz would NEVER abandon his friend and Woody would NEVER abandon his family and Bonnie. NEVER NEVER NEVER. That choice is what made this story cheap. And the fact that the stupid Gabbydygook doll got her happy ending when she didn't even NEED Woody's voice box is ALSO ridiculous. WHY does she deserve a happy ending?

I have many problems with this film, including: forky, the fact they introduce new pointless characters, woddy just complete abandons the friends he almost died for and went back to save in the last film, all our loved characters barely get any screen time some have like no lines at all, his Bonnie seems like she’s 2 she seemed more mature in the last film, Woddy’s characters completely changes, and forky. So how would I write this movie well…. First is omg forky, just why. I know these are kids films but Pixar is known for making movies that both kids and adult enjoy. And all I feel watching forky is annoying oh man is he annoying what’s the point of his characters I just wish he got thrown in a fire pit. A way to fix it maybe instead they should have made Woddy fall out of the van then Buzz goes after him. Then on their way back they gave a deep conversation about everything they’ve been though and how Woddy feels now to show how he’s changed. Then maybe like Buzz gets kidnapped by Gaby Gaby, then Woddy meets up with Bo. And instead of introducing even more characters Woddy and Bo go to meet up with the rest of all of the toys we love from 3 previous movies. Then they all team up to save Buzz. Throughout their brilliant plan Bo and Woddy talk about life and stuff and he begins to consider things. Buzz and Gaby have a chat about being a toy and being loved and Buzz kinda sees how his friend isn’t really that lived anymore. All the toys come up with a complex plan to break Buzz out. They fail to save Buzz and then Woddy gives Gaby his voice box and goes with Bo. Even though this movie is kinda pointless since the third one had a perfect ending and they completely changed Woddy’s character I think that like this it’s better cause it at least would include the original characters and give us a chance to say a final goodbye to them.

Yeah Toy Story 4 pretty much undid EVERYTHING the previous three films had established. Friends, staying together, family..... Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending as it explored what Toy Story 2 eluded to, which was Andy growing up. It showed an old group of friends staying together.... So here's an idea. Why didn't Boo Peep just go with Woody and the others?!! Why not have her rediscover what it's like to be loved by a single child? Have her learn what Forky did? Another thing that upset me was Bonny! I know she's just a kid but come on! Woody was the first toy of Andy's that she bonded with! He's the toy she reached out for...which Andy with a slightly broken heart gave to her. Oh yeah what was it that Andy said about Woody? "And the best thing about Woody is, he'll never give up on you" One movie later he gives up on her.

There was a 5 hour video essay on how toy story 4 ruined everything and the creator brought up how Bonnie played with woody in the montage intro. That on only THREE accounts mentioned in the movie, woody does not get played by Bonnie, but during the road-trip, there’s moments where Bonnie is playing with forky AND woody. So there technically isn’t a reason for him to feel neglected at all because he’s still getting played with.

I think that Toy Story 4 is actually a very bad movie and I don’t think the audience score is accurate. What made the first 3 films so great was the characters. In TS4 the characters are completely different. The action ready characters like Jessie are sidelined as if they wouldn’t charge in and help. The smart characters, specifically Buzz, are made out to be complete idiots. Finally Woody’s most defining trait starting at the end of TS1 and going past the end of TS3 is that he is loyal. “He’ll never give up on you; no matter what” makes me cry every time I watch TS3. I literally refuse to watch that movie with anyone because I am a mess at the end. And at the end of TS4 they had Woody make the exact opposite choice than he would have make in every other film. That is why, in my mind, Toy Story 3 the last film in the franchise.

I'm mixed on TS4. While it's not a bad film on it's own, as a Toy Story movie it kinda shitty. Yeah it's got some good ideas, but the script and execution of it all could've used another rewrite. Also more of a personal nitpick, but while it's great that Don Rickles returned as Mr. Potato Head via archive recordings, I kinda wish they did more his takes. I get that Rickles couldn't return due to his passing in 2017 (rest in peace btw), but I think having his role reduced to simple stuff like "hey watch it buddy" or "you've gotta be kiddin" is kind of a disservice to his character. It's not bad nor does it ruin the movie for me, but it's just something I would've liked to see expanded upon more (kinda like Cars 3 with Doc's flashbacks).

Yes!! Thank goodness I am not the only one. My friends and I still believe that the third movie was the perfect stopping point and no need to continue by doing a fourth film. Plus there was only one point where Bonnie was playing with Woody and Forky, so there’s a difference between being played with less and not played at all. But my biggest issue other than that was Bo because I felt she was somehow out of character and gotten more bossy, and bringing Forky was pointless, and the worst of all, Woody giving his voice box to Gabby Gabby. So now Woody will never be the same, and the ending of Toy Story 3 was in vain.

TS4 just leaves me feeling empty inside. In the last 20 mins, things just happen and don't end in a satisfactory way. Woody gives up the voice box, essentially rewarding the villain. It's very forced and you can tell Woody isn't all that happy about it but he goes through with it anyway because getting forky over to bonie "its all that's left for him" apparently. There is no feeling of triumphantly beating the odds, just acceptance of defeat, followed by rewarding the villain and Woody going through the motions. Then the film spends a solid portion trying to coddle Gabby rather than give Woody a meaningful conclusion where he talks to the rest of his friends about his decision to stay and why he thinks leaving Bonnie is what's best. It makes the goodbye scene feel all the more rushed and out of character. . Woody is forever going to be a lost toy since he can no longer be played with without the voice box and he's probably never gonna see his old gang again. And this is officially how the toy story saga ends, with Woody forever leaving his friends, his voice box taken away and nothing left to look forward to. This movie just leaves me wishing it had never happened

toy story 4 really didn't need to happen. Sure, we would have never found out what happened to Bo Peep, but 3 was the perfect end to the series. Woody and the remaining toys are able to play with Andy one last time before a final farewell and being left in the hands of Bonnie, who obviously cares for her new additions. That was really the best ending one could ask for, and with how Hollywood has been acting for the past couple of decades, you KNOW the only reason why they even considered this movie was for the money, which cheapens anything they do in the end when you know their priorities aren't about telling good stories and leaving lasting memories, but instead trying to rake in as much cash as they possibly can, and it's painfully obvious with all these live action remakes that really don't need to be happening.

@@bengilhooly3616 probably not. Bo peep was a dainty feminine presence, which makes sense because she's a porcelain doll, which is known for being very easily damaged. They just made her a power girl figure for the feminist agenda. Toy story 4's bo peep is not the same bo peep in 1 or 2. A short would be fine to show exactly what happened to her, but I think it should have been left alone. From woody's reaction her being either donated or sold was kind of an easy assumption to make since the second movie was more or less caused by a yard sale.

The main issue I have with the ending is that we can see throughout the film that Woody has strong feelings for Bo Peep, yet she doesn't. She treats him like an acquaintance, a friend at most. From that perspective, going with Bo seems to Woody like a no-brainer decision of an infatuated person ignoring the red flags and desperately holding on to a glimmer of hope. In that situation, Bo should've told him to go with his friends, but instead, she seems to prioritise Woody's short-term happiness by letting him go with her instead of his long-term well-being since there doesn't seem to be any substantial chemistry between the two characters and a break-up is more than obviously underway. She's essentially intentionally leading him on, and the filmmakers making that seem like a win for all seems very short-sighted in my eyes and a waste of a powerful moment that could've been used to actually teach the audience something.

To take a quote from Saberspark when he reviewed this film: "This feels more like the story of a parent after the child has full grown up." Woody, in this case, is the parent. He's been there for Andy all his life, always there to cheer him up when he's sad, always there to keep him company whenever he feels lonely, always there to help face his fears. He pretty much raised Andy, aside from his actual mom, and while the fourth film made Woody seem out of character compared to the other three movies, it made sense to why he's like this, at least to me. Woody is a parent who lost his sense of purpose, and has been trying to fill that void, like he did with Jessie in Toy Story 2.

nah I'm 100% against the entire thing, it was a complete betrayal of the philosophy that they're there when the kid needs them. The argument that a fork that is created in a classroom assignment is more important to the kid being the impetus that changes everything is largely missing the point of what they're doing here. See it's displayed as a good thing, that Woody can get peace now with Bo-peep, that he can finally be "happy" with the love of his life. But we're missing that the overarching villain that gets that development, in the story "Gabby" hasn't a reason like any of the other characters, that it's also a retread of the Stinky Pete story with less meaning to it as Pete had manipulated others because he was bitter about being ignored for "space toys", while Gabby is just broken and unable to talk, with Pete we see Jessie embrace trust again and they together defeat him while there's no reason other than Gabby wanting - and then being ignored - by others. The villain of the story is Bo-peep in that she ignores what kids want - actually being resentful to them - in favour of Toys. Eventually convincing Woody to abandon his principles for a life of no love from kids but helping other toys. It's a story of selfishness winning out and care for others being not important, which is exemplified in the idea that a kid would want to spend all her time with a fork that she made in class that she replaces in 2 weeks with another that will be forgotten quickly afterwards as the girl seemingly doesn't care for things but wants to have new things. it's a horrible end to the story and I hate it.

Will Woody regret his decision to leave with Bo Peep? Considering she belittles him, talks down to him, refers to him as NOT a friend but an "accessory," I think it's fair to say that Woody just ran off with a BPD case ala Amber Heard. Yes. Yes, there will be regrets. Many.

Same here for me. I hated how Dolly, Bo Peep, Giggle McDimples and Gabby Gabby treated poor Woody. They beat the crud out of him by bossing him around, verbally abusing him, condescending him, gaslighting him, manipulating him and ripping him apart. And I don't understand why he would want to go with Bo in the end; she's been completely rude, ungrateful, bossy, unlikeable, and mean to him throughout the majority of the movie by talking garbage about him to other toys when he was RIGHT NEXT TO HER!!

I felt exactly how you felt about the fourth Toy Story, pal. When I saw Toy Story 3, I was not happy with it because I thought its adult jokes, Buzz Lightyear dancing, talking in Spanish and the terrifying incinerator part and that Andy gave all his toys to Bonnie, including Woody, ruined it all for me, but as I watched it over and over, I began to realize that I was wrong. Toy Story 3 wrapped things up perfectly for Andy, Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the characters. But when I heard the news for a Toy Story 4, I was a little unsure about it, but being a die-hard Toy Story fan, I decided to give it a chance. As I watched it I was starting to enjoy the first five minutes of the movie but ask the story progressed, my mood slowly began to change, from Woody no longer being played with to how the characters were portrayed, to how the story ended. What makes me so peeved is that all the female toys treated poor Woody very badly, and they include Dolly, Bo Peep, Giggle McDimples and Gabby Gabby. First off, Dolly was rude, condescending and overbearing to him. She even calls him out for being "a little dramatic" when he introduced Forky to the toys. Then there's Bo, who was very much the same way Dolly was, but she was also emotionless, bossy and disrespectful. She used to support Woody and his loyalty to his kid, but now she sees it as some kind of joke. Here's the list of condescensions she said to him and when talking to other toys about him: 1. What did I say? I lead you follow. 2. You really want to help? Then stay out of my way. 3. Just stand there and be quiet. 4. I'll do the talking. 5. My friend? No, no, no he's my accessory. 6 some toy I thought it would be a good idea to wander into the aisles. (Duke Caboom: That doesn't make any sense.) It doesn't, does it? (Duke Caboom: Everybody knows the best route is behind the shelves.) That would have been a better route wouldn't it? (Duke Caboom wow this toy sounds like a complete idiot.) He does. 7. Open your eyes, Woody. There's plenty of kids out there. It can't be just about the one you're still clinging to. As Buzz Lightyear would say, "You're mocking him, aren't you?" And as Jessie would say, "Sounds like she really loves you.) All Bo does is just treat Woody like a moldy doormat throughout the majority of the movie, and the sad thing is that she enjoys every second doing it. And lastly there's Gabby Gabby, who was very manipulative and creepy. All she wanted was just one thing: Woody's voicebox, because her's is broken and that she wants it fixed just so she can be loved by a child. She tries multiple times to get Woody's voicebox, first by her manipulative words in a creepy tone, next by force and by her manipulative words again, only this time, telling him about his times with Andy and Bonnie and asks him if it was "As wonderful as it sounds", to which he says that it was, and then says that she wants a chance for one of those moments and that she'd give anything to be loved the way he had been. That's when Woody decided to give her his voicebox in exchange for Forky. As soon as Gabby got what she wanted, I felt my heart shatter to pieces.

I see Toy Story 4 as an epilogue to the series. I sort it separately to the others in my mind, which lets me appreciate it on its own, without influencing my thoughts on the other films. I can't really tell if the ending bothers me just because it makes me feel sad/nostalgic to see Woody leave his family (the one I grew up with), or if it's because I genuinely don't think it was in line with his character. But seeing the film as a separate entity makes me more ok with it.

What is not inline with a character losing the reason for his existence and not finding the same happiness with someone else? This is a very simple concept to understand - toy loves his boy to the point of co-dependence, something clearly on display in the movies. When that connection is severed a part of his identity was too. The film is about finding ones own identity separate from anyone else. Only then you can hope to move on and be happy.

Btw i am not saying you are saying he is out of character, just that in general this seems to be the consensus in this comment section and it makes no sense seeing as the film spends its entire runtime showing you just how miserable and lost Woody is. @@PathBeyondTheDark Honestly you make some very good points. I definitely agree that it was healthy for Woody to move on from Andy, and later Bonnie, to find his own sense of purpose. What bothered me about TS4 is how characters were handled Yes Bonnie is a girl but they wrote her as a kid who only likes what she has until something new comes along and then she doesn’t care…Andy still loved Woody even though he got Buzz but after promising to take care of Woody…who Andy was going to take to college BTW…she just shoves him in the closet and only cares that Forky is missing…her liking Jessie more is fine but write it as she changes Jessie to sherif and now Woody is helping her…I mean she still played with Buzz so why not Woody? Buzz was written as a total idiot which takes continuity and throws it in the trash…the competent toy who lead the rescue in TS2 and stood up to Lottso for better treatment in TS3 now just does what his buttons tell him? Seriously? Gabby Gabby was ok I guess but I really didn’t like her much Bo was great as a more independent character but she was handled so poorly…she is porcelain but moved like a plastic Barbie and even the flashback at the start was so out of character it didn’t fit her at all The parents like all outsiders in these movies like the Ralph sequel were so dumb they actually believed Trixie was their GOS and didn’t question why out of the blue Buzz said “you forgot your backpack” Beautiful animation does not make up for horrible writing and an unneeded sequel that only reunites Bo and Woody so he can leave like Vanelope and Elsa…about the only thing they handled right was how they worked in lines for characters whose voice actors have passed

And you're telling me he just walked away from his FAMILY, from his BEST FRIEND to go live with HER?!? NAH. Get out of here with your toxic romance idealizing! Also, their main antagonist for this film was disabled and acted selfishly and emotionally manipulated Woody to get his voice box and was REWARDED by having her stupid voice clip win her an owner, communicating to disabled kids everywhere that the only way anyone will love them is if they find a way to FIX themselves. NICE. Several serious issues such as PTSD and suicide were addressed in this movie and treated like a JOKE by the incompetent director and producer. To be fair I think it was a good end for Woody. Why? Because trough all the films we can see his development as a person. In Toy story 1 he had to learn not to be selfish and fight his insecurities, in the 2 it was visible how much he progressed but also that he still was very insecure- when Andy leave him ONCE and for his own good he paniced and had a crisis that he had to overcome, in the 3rd one he had to learn to let go and how to say goodbye, he also realised that his "family" and how it seemed at the time Bonnie needed him, in the 4th one he had to learn that he CAN choose himself and his own happines, the difference from the 3 is that he wasn't NEEDED anymore, Bonnie liked Jessi more than him but it WASN'T the problem, problem was that he didn't felt all that nessecery there, his "family" was happy and so was he or at least he beleved so, but he wasn't, as You said he was a rader old toy that went trough it a lot of times which means he alwas choosed the happines of others and was able to be happy, exept this time he was simply tired, and it was VERY visible through the whole move, but at the end he decided to be happy trying something new, plus the act of helping other toy learn how it feels to have someone who needs and loves them was at least for me a beautyfull conclusion of his story. ( I cried like a baby ) P.S sorry for my grammar I'm still learning :)

They messed with the unspoken rules of that movie's universe (i.e.: Buzz breaking his arm while trying to fly over stairs in the first installment, but in this installment he can fly over a highway and not break when he lands) They shuffled around personality traits between characters (i.e.: gave Jessie's outgoing personality to Bo Peep and dumbed Buzz down). The writers changed continuity for the sake of plot (i.e.: made Bo Peep's dress flowy instead of wired to make her more maneuverable and reverted Jessie into being afraid of clothes in spaces). This movie felt more like a filler episode of an anime, as opposed to a true sequel. But in the end it was an okay movie

Woody rejects his loyalty from his family (especially Buzz) just for Bo Beep. Buzz is reduced to an inner voice joke when he has already been shown to be extremely smart and self-conscious before. Jessie gets to be claustrophobic again because of reasons, and she does little to nothing on the film. Bo Beep changes from a lovely support who always gets to understand Woody to a manipulative feminist icon (who shouldn't be able to move that much because of her materials). Bonnie becomes a full contradiction from her appearance in Toy Story 3 just to move the plot (as in the short films she was shown to be much better). The rest of the gang does absolutely nothing but stay on the RV the whole movie. Woody and Bo Beep's new relationship feels more like an abusive toxic couple than a lovely one like it originally was. Woody gets treated like a useless fool just to show off Bo Beep. Gabby Gabby is a manipulative villain who gets no real punishment for her actions like the other villains did. Forky does nothing but contradict what toys were supposed to be in-universe and a suicidal joke. The whole movie relies on nostalgia but, unlike Toy Story 3, it shouldn't, as TS3 was supposed to be the ending of the franchise and grew up with its audience, and it needed the callbacks to the original movies to show the growth and development of every character (both humans and toys). TS4 only uses it for cheap feelings and even contradicts many things the original trilogy did. Sure, the movie is beautiful and has some great scenes, but it lacks any continuity and sense with its characters and world that it simply feels wrong.

The only two things I liked about Toy Story 4 were the first five minutes of the beginning, because, to me, it captured the essence and spirit of the original trilogy (except when Bo Peep doesn't care about Andy anymore more and says "Kids lose toys everyday, no big deal."), and the beautiful animation, but under its surface, the story suffers minute after minute right until the end.

I liked it, but here are the flaws that I agree with that need to be addressed. 1. Woody's arc in this movie completely overrides his development in the previous three films, going from a jerkish, but ultimately good-natured, leader to someone who would leave his family for his long-lost love. 2. Mediocre character development: The new side characters have little, if any, focus, coming off as filler, unlike in Toy Story 2 and 3, where they actually progressed the overarching narrative of those movies in an organic way. And 3. Gabby Gabby, while her likability is that she's sympathetic, as well as her redemption being unique to her by main Toy Story antagonist standards, otherwise feels like a rehash of Lotso, only far less evil and much nicer, making it feel toned down compared to the OG trilogy.

I think it would have been more interesting if they had made a Toy Story series instead. The franchise made several shorts after the third installment which I thought were pretty interesting and they have a lot of material to work with. This series could have taken place between the first and second film where we see not only see real time progression of Buzz and Woody's relationship but also how all the toys began to bond with Buster, between the second and third film where Jessie and Bullseye begin to adjust to their new life as Andy's toys or after the events of the third film where the Andy's toys become more acquainted with Bonnie's. It would have been interesting to watch the Toy Story gang develop as individuals, not just Buzz and Woody and it wouldn't be the first time a Pixar character got their own series, sort of. "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" featured the titular character himself.

I'm going to be pushing an unpopular opinion, but Buzz Lightyear was a diminishing character in each sequel, even TS2 where he's actively contributing to the plot and taking a back seat to Woody. I've thought for a while if Buzz was better off staying with Sid, Andy did put him in a trash bag for the attic after all. Sid was a destructive kid, but everyone plays with their toys differently. Sid is excited he gets a $100 Buzz toy in a crane machine, whereas Andy most likely was going to get another Buzz if Woody failed to get back home in the first movie. Buzz's existential crisis in the first movie was the standout compared to Woody's antagonism and jealousy. I think you have an interesting idea if Buzz decided to stay with Sid, once Buzz gets destroyed by the rocket and remade into another toy, he would have had the chance to find his own identity. Buzz is one out of millions of figures imagine if Sid turned him into a flying toy, I believe Buzz would value that more than being Andy's toy.
@JayRedGear
@JayRedGear 2 жыл бұрын
How does that make any sense at all? Also, your logic of Andy replacing original Buzz can easily apply to all the other toys, including Woody (Toy Story 3 commentary compares Woody to Lotso so the idea was there). And why on earth would Buzz ever decide to stay with Sid after seeing all the toys that were mutilated? And Buzz literally flies at the end of the first movie. You also ignore the timespan between 1-3 because you Andy putting him in the attic while ignoring the fact that he Andy is a teenager here and at least values his toys to the point where he would put them in the attic whereas Sid (whose a much older kid than Andy in the 1st movie) would've just blown him up. And what's stopping Sid from getting a new Buzz when the old one is useless to him? The same logic can easily apply to Sid.

I have yet to see Toy Story 4, and after seeing the reviews of that other guy who made five videos about it and how it just didn't get the franchise, I am reluctant to watch it. I do have to say one thing, though. I liked that guy's idea that Bo Peep could have actually been the true antagonist of the movie, whereas Gabby Gabby would have been the villain. Yes, there is a difference between a villain and an antagonist. While these roles are usually one in the same, they aren't necessarily required to be so. As we know from our English classes as kids, the antagonist serves as the personified main obstacle that the protagonist has to overcome before achieving their desired outcome, whereas as the villain or bad guy is one who does evil things, An example would be in Les Miserables. Javert is the main antagonist, but M. Thenardier is the main villain. Bo Peep could have been that antagonistic force, standing i the way of his morals and goals. On a deeper level, it could have showed kids that the people we once knew and loved in our younger days can and do often change, and not always for the better. I'd have loved so see Woody sadly say to her, "You'll always hold a special place in my heart, Bo, but... you truly are a lost toy. Lost in more ways I'd care to admit. You do what you think is right, but my child needs me, and I intend to be there for her until she doesn't need me anymore, but more importantly, my friends need me, and I'll never abbandon them. Goodbye and good luck..." And with one last longing gaze, they'd walk in opposite directions, leaving us with an open ending.

Watch and judge for yourself. The film does an adequate job of showing you how Woody feels in a post-Andy world. He has never been without him, so saying he is out of character under such a new circumstance is misguided at best. He is lost and needs a new direction. That is what the film explores.

Altering characters means more merch, even a crummy movie still draws the kids to the new merch and rinse and repeat.
