The actual evilness we did to the natives is very tragic. I remember reading my first college book of what we did to them, and it brought me to tears. No child, no women, no men were safe.

I agree with all of this, but also want to add that they need to develop Colin's character as we really don't know much of anything about him. What are his interests, hobbies? He travels, yes, but it almost seems exclusively to "be with women" based on what we know from those travels. His character, for me, is as flat as a pancake.

I loved this movie. It was so amazing, that I enjoyed it even as an adult. If a movie targeted towards kids is enjoyable even to adults, that's when you know you've made a great movie.

It's always fun to hear a non-American's thoughts on American media. When you said there aren't enough westerns I was confused, because there are so many. Like as many if not more as war movies. As far as our views on Native Americans, we think about them more here because they still live in areas spread throughout the U.S. There are a couple nearby to me. There are a lot of classes about Native American culture/history, and even outreach programs. I think as a culture we feel bad and we try to do better by them, plus it's a major part of our history, so we can't help but remember. There was an animated adaption of White Fang made. It's the inverse of Call of the Wild. They did change the ending, which I at first liked, but then it kind of misses the point of the story. It's like Spirit where the animals don't talk, except there's no narration and it's about wolves.

I think the narration and some of the music definitely dates it, but I like it. Kind of gives me Treasure Planet's "I'm still here" vibe. Although, I do wonder what the movie would be like without the narration. I don't think it's necessary. I had a hard time watching this growing up. My sister always wanted to watch it, but I just couldn't bear seeing him in pain and separated over and over again. Great movie though.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I have a lot of criticisms of this season, but I also did not care about Polin at all and now im really excited for all the mess that's coming in part part 2, so they did something right.

You know, I have a love-hate relationship with horse movies, most horse movies I’ve watched are OK. I’ve never really enjoyed them fully I would call most of them mostly mid, for the fact that 90% of horse films. In fact I would even say 99% of horse films fallow the same trope, girl or boy finds untamable horse bonds with said wild horse and wins competition or wins horse, it’s never really that different. of course there’s a exceptions like black beauty, but for the most part, most horse media being books or movies fallows the same trope, which gets extremely boring for people like me who love horses and wanna enjoy that kind of media. but when I see spirit it’s a breath of fresh air that I haven’t really seen in any other horse film. it’s about the horse. It’s not about the people it’s about spirit, now of course there are some human characters that pop up, but they are side characters. The focus is on the horses and I really enjoyed that about the film and I wish there was more horse films that followed under spirits footsteps, or even books. they’re probably are books that I’m not aware of but for the most part as a person who tried dipping her toes into horse books and movies. I never found anything too different from each other. I think spirit is one of the greatest animated films I ever watched and especially the best horse film I’ve ever watched.

Um... Have to say, 2002 wasn't a different world re: views of the old West. You might remember a moderately successful movie from 1990, Dances With Wolves... Or later, one called Avatar... Or an old anti littering ad from the seventies, with Iron Eyes Cody... Manifest Destiny and all had been discarded for a century or so before Spirit came along, and the problems of how to deal with its debris trail have no simple solutions. A production note: Dr. Deb Bennett, author of Principles of Conformation Analysis, served as a consultant for the film. One of her stipulations was that there be a certain amount of ambiguity; and so the Colonel (?)(I forget his rank) is indeed a skilled horseman and leader, knows his opponents, and gives respect where it is due at the end

I agree with most if your thoughts on this, although I did enjoy the new shirtless Colin. I was so disappointed when Rege-Jean Page didn't come back for season 2, but I understand why. There is nothing for him to do. If the show gets fans invested in characters, they should give them something more to do so they can continue to be a part of the show. I also do not care for the Mondrian storyline and I like your idea that it could have been a Kate/Anthony story. I dud not like the "kiss me please before I die" that felt very contrived. Also Cressida's hideous dresses were very distracting.

Colin’s clothing and brothel visits are supposed to be cringey because he’s putting on a performance. He’s acting the way he thinks he’s supposed to, or that others want him to. It’s mentioned multiple times how out of character his behavior is but he gets the surface reception he wants from it. As for his feelings towards Penelope, he’s missed her for months, has been seeking emotional intimacy in empty sexual encounters, and is unmoored this season. The kiss with Penelope is the first time things click into place. Kissing someone he’s not only loved but been loved by for years, someone he trusts, who’s always been there is what sets off the dreams and spiraling leading up to the carriage scene. All that said, yes, the show needs 10 to 13 episodes to do justice to all of the storylines…

Yes, there will be more angst and pining but they would already be official lovers as everything else unfolds. The carriage scene happened that past the point of no return. So the excitement of the friendship blossoming to something more is gone. They didn't even try to bread crumb us in to anticipating a confession, a steamy scene, and a proposal. They gave us the entire loaf of bread in one scene. What most of us just wanted before the big moments was Colin's extra pining and groveling. Just a little bit more of it!! I don't want to get my hopes up for Part 2 since I strongly feel like they will be tunneling straight on the chase for Lady Whistledown that will eat all the Polin scenes. But just to feed my absolute delusion, maybe the writers deliberately made Colin's character be impulsive to marry (since this also happened to him with Marina), then eventually gets to FINALLY step back and have a long process once he finds out Penelope is LW. In that way, we have more knowledge about his character this time. But then again, things don't always go our way.

Totally agree with the whole issue of major characters showing up for one season and then disappearing. Kind of like Francesca she's a big deal now but where was she the last two seasons? Off practicing piano? Sorry that doesn't cut it for me. And I also agree about the Mondrich family. It's like adding their story was a second thought, their storyline has nothing to do with the major plots going on. It just takes up space.

First of all, 50 Shades of Abusive Narcissist does not belong in the romance genre. Secondly, romance does not come in and out of favor every few years... that genre is consistently a top preformer.

I think it's interesting that people are seemingly having issues with the multiple storylines in this season. I personally did not like season 2 nearly at all because of how much was going on all at once, plus the constant feeling of intensity and anger. It just wasn't my cup of tea, whereas in season 3 I feel like they've cut back on how many story lines they have, allowing them to flesh out each one a little more. I do think it was jarring how quickly Collin in shown to love Penn, but I do think how they show him pining for her is on par with how they did it in previous seasons. You get some nice call backs to how Anothony acted in season 1 and 2 with the look of constant torture and with Daphne to how she longed to be with the Duke and was so hurt when that almost didn't happen. To me, it shows how it's a family trait to crave love and struggle with it within the bounds of society. I really enjoyed season 3

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with season 3. I'm not really liking Penelope as a character due to choices the show has made. And Colin is just ... there. I felt like he had more personality as a background character in S1 & S2 then he does in his own season! Netflix might have split the season in two parts as a marketing ploy, but it's backfired for me. I can totally wait for the second half. At this point I'm just looking forward to skipping ahead to Benedict's season. Edit: I do want to say, I thoroughly enjoy Nicola Coughlan's acting. No complaints there. Just not-the-best-writing. I do think Luke Newton struggles as the romantic lead. Though, to be fair, the writing is asking an awful lot of whiplash feelings on a very short time scale.

At this point I'd love a good well thought through reboot. To fix the many problems they have been having. Mainly to fix Adrian's and Cat Noir's role in the story and as a hero and maybe make Marinet a bit more down to earth as a character.
