I like skating alone because when I am skating around other people or other skaters it feels like my ego is activated. Like I compare myself to them too much, regardless if I am better or worse than them at skating.

Love my friends but I don’t get better unless I skate alone. I try to allocate time for both. I have another friend who feels he only gets better when he skates with someone to teach him

this is insane, watching your videos is so relaxing, ive had a time a few years ago where i binged your channel, im now back again. I just got a new board bigger size as i grew aswell, and im starting from ground zero, its very frustrating as you fail on just turning 180° and even ollies are inconsistent, i hope to get those ollies and stuff CLEAN ASAP so i can do fun sessions with a small flat rail, that seems the most fun

Ohh i know the feeling. I love when i got music in the ears and take insanely long trips just zoning out. we got bike lanes through out the entire city so i dont need to think that much about cars. some but only very few, but taking those rides and taking on every single spot on the way is life for me. nothing i love more then to start from on part of the far out side of the city and then ride all the way to the other side of the city towards the airport. Its around 13.6 miles, but then i do also stay at the spots and skate for a bit too. so its a whole day thing, but maaaan its needed at times. Got kids but are a full time parent, so only every other second weekend i got free for my self. an as a single parent, i need that time to just skate and relax hehe. i do get time the other days to but not the same kind of skating. And having the good spots for your self when you need to relax ur mind and just skate is a blessing.

I love skating alone. I also talk to myself, think about things, and generally meditate on life. I find skating alone to be hyper relaxing 😎

I have to skate alone too, (over 40 and too embarrassed to even go outdoors) got to the park this morning and it was packed, so I picked up trash instead. Then by the time I had to go to work the skatepark was completely empty. Wow, thanks time, you’ve destroyed my happiness once again.

I’ve been skating hella with the homies every week when I used to skate solo a lot, honestly…. I don’t like it… I feel like I don’t progress when I skate with my homies. I feel at peace skating alone and try so much more when alone.

I wish I had this mindset to skating solo. Unfortunately I need other people to feed off of to progress. It’s usually the homies who are giving me ideas for new tricks to learn. When I’m alone I can never think of anything new to learn, and I just end up getting frustrated.

Hey John, I get mad dawged alot at my local. Im a fat dude and i can skate pretty well but I always feel like an outcast. Some days it motivates me and others it just makes me want to leave. I vividly remember going to a skate shop as a kid and seeing a sticker slapped on the TV that said "NO FAT DUDES". Is this like a common thing? I love skateboarding so much but some people just fucking suck. Much love, my brotha!

I feel like the way you talk to the camera is kinda similar to how a lot of skaters talk to each other in real life. Im just a guy on-line, but have you ever thought about maybe cutting out the progress daily content and maybe gettin some IRL bro-down community time? Is it worth it to double dip the John Hill and PD content when it's so similar?

If you love to skate and you’re over 30, it’s pretty crucial to learn to like skating alone. I actually do my best when I’m solo. It’s just a more personal and meditative experience and you really can benefit from it.
