East Tn. Got into yellow jackets in my horse barn in my hay this week. Dozen stings all over. Could not use chemicals around hay. Mixed this up, sprayed at least 10 nests at night. Worked beautifully. Instant kill. Cleaned up stragglers today. Cost of 2 gallon: 1.50. Awesome. Thank you.

I used to be a garage door fitter. I am allergic to wasp stings. The garage door had been broken for years and we had to break in to remove the door to install the new one. I discovered the nest and instantly withdrew and told the customer. Massive! wasp nest inside! She was about 90 years old lived through world wars, she came out with a broom and just smashed it to bits lol all that whilst she was giving me grief! Tip. Purge the spray line with water if you are going to keep the container full of the solution for future use or the line water will evaporate and the soap residue will crystallize and clog the spray head.
@virginiamoss7045

This is partly why people buy the canned spray; it's just convenient. You don't have to stop and prepare something. There's the problem you describe and then there's the soap you have to clean off of whatever you spray whereas the commercial poison just evaporates right away with no residue. I will use the soap method from now on in spite of the inconvenience and cost of the sprayer.

So I'm installing gutter guards and get to an inside corner, where I'm having trouble getting it to fit. Several days pass while I mull over my predicament, and in that space of days some wasps decide the underside of the guard is a good place to build a nest. (We've had no rain) So I figure a solution to my problem, go up the ladder, and get repeatedly buzzed by these wasps. I had some Ortho foaming spray, but couldn't get it to work in such a tight space. Then I watched your video. I made the soap and water solution you recommended, and at 1:30 am I went up the ladder, and sprayed. OMG it worked like a charm. When the wasps flew out, I sprayed them directly. So tomorrow, I will finish installing on the inside corner. Thanks for providing a super-easy solution!

@Mary Jane, you are absolutely correct, (ONLY TIME) is at night especially on a cool evening, the later the better, the entire colony is in there in a dormant state. Do it during the day can be dangerous because wasps returning to the nest will defend it vigorously, and if you can't run like hell you will be a swollen pin cushion. Many people are not aware of this fact and will be in for a big surprise.

For anyone wondering, when you buy soap you have to make sure it has a degreaser additive because it’s that degreaser that clogs the pores on the insects exoskeleton causing them to suffocate. Just google what insects breathe through an exoskeleton and there’s ur list of what you can kill with it. And usually the best ratio is for every gallon, add 1 cup of soap
@zoltanszucs9346
@zoltanszucs9346 Жыл бұрын
Are there any non-degreaser dish washer soaps out there? 🤔 I thought all of them contain degreaser. Are you able to clean greasy plates and cutlery without degreaser? Im just asking bc I can't really match up this brand with any European one.
@elram2649
@elram2649 15 күн бұрын
@zoltanszucs9346 I would think the viscosity of the spray mixture is what bonds and clogs the breathing pores on the underside of the insect. And so I'm thinking any liquid dish soap will do the job as long as you follow the given ratio of soap and water. But of course, if it has the degreasing chemical agent, it should perform more effectively.

You should try mixing in with the dish soap some ammonia. Since we were kids my brother and I used to use that mixture to kill everything, but we didn't use a sprayer. We used the bottle the dish soap came in because the nozzle on the bottle is perfect for squirting the foam into the entrance of the hive. The reason this works so well is because the foam not only traps the wasps, hornets, etc., but it also helps keep the ammonia fumes in the nest. The best thing about this is not just the effectiveness of it but the fact that as soon as the ammonia evaporates there isn't any residual poison to harm kids or pets. Been using this method for nearly 50 years and it has never failed to do the job. 2 tbsp soap; 1 cup H2O, 1 cup ammonia and shake a lot (the thicker the foam the better).

Of course, I noticed a potential alternative a few years back, for those that may not like killing wasps. Basically, my dad was grilling on our covered porch, and the cover of the porch had a little red wasp nest on it. Eventually, the smoke must have caused them to assume that the covered porch itself was on fire, because one by one they all flew the nest and never came back.

Then the roaches and moths move in--and you've got a whole 'nother problem to deal with. Only drawback to beekeeper is, if they have cut it out of your walls, it can be hard to find one that'll do it for free in some areas, and there's no guarantee they won't screw up putting your wall back like it was. Thank you for this remedy. In my backyard, It's starts around 7am when I see the wasps hovering and flying around. It's so disheartening because my dog wakes up and needs to go out and go to the bathroom around the same time the wasps come out and my dog has been stung. I bought 2 traps from Lowes and the wasps won't go anywhere near them, and so I did a KZfaq search of how to kill them, and that's how I found your channel and your video about how to kill wasps. Thank you again.

Cool tip! And your son's "bloody" appearance made it funny. Nice that it works with ants and cockroaches as well. I saw another video where they said wasps avoid other wasp nests because they do not like confrontation, so you can trick them by stuffing a brown paper bag with paper, then twisting the top closed and hanging it where wasps like to hang out; they will supposedly leave.

So after you spray the nest with your home remedie do they come back to the nest if let's say you sprayed it without them there or so just wondering. Cus when I spray with the stuff I buy they fly around it for a min they leave and never come back. I will try this method of yours one day it's helpful seeing you actually spray them and to see what they do before I do it cus I chicken out alot lol.
