After my shorts I wanted to do a Malbatross speedrun, because with Willow the need for resources is very low, so I knew I could do it easily on day 1, it would only cost me time, but I thought it wouldn't be that complicated, because when I was running frostjaw I constantly found malbatross like Woodie. And I was also lucky to get this run in about 3-4 hours, you might think it's a lot of time doing the same thing, but for me who's spent more than a few days catching WRs it was pretty quick lol.
I also decided to edit this video, because I thought it would be fun and more interesting for you to watch, since normally my speedruns don't get many views, because honestly some categories are not interesting to watch.
And the question that remains is, should you speedrun malbatross?

That right there is indeed why you're the best, boss! Love the video format! Showing the current tasks you're after to inform the viewer of your plans, instead of showing random gathering in the beginning, and a hilarious metal gear type radio conversation to fill the time spent paddling, are both nothing short of ingenious! Very thx I'm glad you think so. I love Metal Gear and before editing this video I was watching a mission from the phatom pain and when the person in the video completed it it just clicked in my head, and you already know the rest. And yes I thought that normally most dst speedruns have a lot of tedious parts and that you simply don't understand the thinking of the person you are watching, so I added this to better guide the viewer.

Maxwell is a very well-built character, I like him in both ds solo and dst, even though I don't play with him much, I always love it when there's one on the server, especially when it's that Maxwell who keeps taking resources and sending them to the base with his storage space you mentioned, and which actually got a really cool new skin

PTSD Flashbacks from my two last encounters with Malbatross as the last boss in all boss Wigfrid runs. In my first attempt I spent half an autumn and 7 days into winter to only find 2 malba shoals, both of which I repeatedly fished out twice before I managed to finally spawn the boss. It was dead in two segments. After finally killing all bosses (Malba was the last) I revealed the map. I uncovered nearly 3/4 of the ocean map, half of it using the new horizon expandinator helmet. There were ten Malba shoals in the world, and the remaining 8 were all bunched up in the only one corner of the map near Moon Quay, which I deliberately avoided. 😢 In my next run I went on the ocean after already discovering 3 malba spawners earlier in the run. I repeatedly visited all three shoals the entire autumn (minus 4 days to kill scrappy werepig, dfly, bearger, mutant bearger) and fished each one of them entirely at least 3 times with no luck. I used up all the boots from Sharkboi to teleport between shoals so I looked around and found two more nearby and started to visit and fish in those instead. I got raided by monkeys 4 times and they stole all my rotten fish that kept piling on the boat since I couldn't eat all of it. Winter came so I rowed back to dfly desert and picked up its loot to put a scaled furnace on my boat. Sharkboi (which I killed on the last day of summer) had respawned, so while waiting for nearby fish shoals to regen I went to get more boots. The fight glitched out with Sharkboi island destroying mid-fight, releasing the boss to wander on the ocean by Moon Quay. I stole a pirate boat and finished the fight nonetheless, and with my new boots visited the old two shoals I haven't seen in a few days (and fished them out). After catching 162 sea bass between 5 Malba shoals in total and wasting 1 and a half season on what I thought would be a 1-day trip after Sharkboi kill at the end of summer, Malbatross finally showed up. The fight lasted two segments, as usual.

Your world wanted to murder you too tbh lol This also happened to me in a Walter run, which is why I don't include him in my races today, but one tip I can give is to use the trawl net to make it easier to spawn him and sometimes it happens almost instantly.

@@ameslarii Well it did happen recently, I'm really into playing Wigfrid recently and use CC rush boss runs as an excuse to play her more, so this is the events just from the last week haha. Evidently getting the fish out of these shoals was my last issue. Stupefying lure from Pearl really does its job well and I was able to fish everything out quickly, not much quicker compared to what a trawler would do. I'll try one this run, see if it makes any difference. Oh! Forgot to mention the most cruel detail of all those Malba shenanigans: in my second run the first shoal I found (day 16-ish, on my way with celestial altars to lunar) I discovered Malba hanging out there already. I had many reasons to not fight it: I wasn't prepared for the fight at all (grass boat, no anchor, only one driftwood oar and a stale hambat), I didn't want to sink both altars if the grass boat breaks, I had my beefalo (not fully tamed) on the same boat, and chester with stuff for Pearl, and I was on a rush to find cookie cutters before winter...I just ignored the bird and went on with my tasks. How many times did I remember this encounter later on, unable to spawn it by fishing out 5 different spawners fully at least 3 times each over the course of 2 seasons lol.

@@loveeens oh god, just thinking about it made me feel sad for you, I just wish Malbatross's system was something like exploding a gunpowder or bomb near him making him come out of the water for messing him up

@@ameslarii I think a good fix for starters would have been to increase the chance of him spawning with each fish caught. It's supposed to be 10% with each fish hooked so the more you fish the more likely it would be to summon it, capping at 100% after the 10th fish. There's about 10 fish in the shoal so at least it would guarantee you the fight even if odds are not in your favor. Sharkboi is guaranteed after only three fish, I don't see why this can't be more player-friendly. Boss's loot is not too op anyway to make it too abuseable for anything by more frequent spawns. But if they wanted to balance it or encourage ocean exploration, they could increase the cooldown and make it respawn only in 20 days from the same shoal. This way if you want more of its loot you'd have to sail around and find a new place to spawn the boss.
