Honestly, Klei being this stubborn and patching out any way players have to make the bosses doable/tolerable solo is insulting. I don't have people to play with. Now orange gems aren't viable because it takes more hits to cancel healing. Blue gems aren't viable because it increases the health of the ice barrier and the platform breaks too quickly. Purple gems increase sleep resistance. This boss is just "read wiki simulator" so you can do the math for the perfect combination of gems. You can't figure it out through trial and error either because the game gives you so little feedback to go on. I'm legitimately so frustrated as a solo player because I feel like the game is designed to punish me for not having friends that like the game too. They are constantly playing this game of cat and mouse with "Oh, they found a new cheese strategy? Patch it out." over and over, and can't face the fact that if almost everyone wants to cheese the bosses, then they're bad bosses. I can fight celestial champion without much difficulty, but the boss that comes before it I can't? Isn't crab king supposed to lead up to celestial champion and not block you entirely? Celestial Champion and Nightmare Werepig are like the perfect examples of what a boss should be. Multiple phases, dangerous but avoidable attacks, multiple viable ways to fight, and they don't heal THOUSANDS of HP the second you make a few mistakes. Other bosses like Ancient Fuelweaver or Crab King only really ever have one or two non-character specific ways to fight it, and the only way to know them is to look them up on KZfaq or read the wiki.
