This is a huge problem with a non-margin account. You went on to explain exactly what I expected you would. This is a daunting problem, especially for former robinhood users that are now moving over to Fidelity. Without margin on your account, a Fidelity account is very limited in use. Also, it's still a big deal even if you never actually plan on taking out a margin line of credit because you still benefit from everything you stated in the video about avoiding violations.

Pay attention to “Available To Trade Without Margin Impact” under the Balances tab. That is how much Cash you have available. Just make sure you don’t go over that amount. If you go over that amount, you have used up all your cash, and tapped into margin.

@@TaintedUchiha yes, if you are tapping into margin and you hold overnight, you will get charged interest. However the interest with Fidelity is low so I mean, it's up to you to use it how you see fit. I personally never tap into margin and I stay with-in my cash available amount.

Hi I found your video when I looked up Margin accounts today. I have over $300,000 at Fideity right now and I want to look at trying margin to buy more stocks while they are cheap right now. And I want to take out about $50,000 cash for personal expenses as I'm cash poor right now. What ideas do you have? @ThinkMoneyBenny Жыл бұрын
using margin to borrow money to buy more stocks is risky.. I wouldn’t recommend it. This video is more so talking about using your current funds as “ type margin “ which let’s you get in & out of trades the same day without getting penalized for day trading. In essence, just use the amount of cash you have.

I’m trying to sell but I get an error code 013013 which is telling me that the shares I am trying to sell are not paid for yet. I’m wondering why they aren’t paid for and how do I pay for them. When I bought the shares I was told that I was trading money that was not currently settled. However, as soon as it settles I will be good. The money has now been settled into my account but it still won’t let me sell. I checked my positions and it shows the settled money in SPAXX. So I want to know how I can use that money to pay for my other shares.

Do all your stocks show up as margin when buying this way? Or do they eventually switch to cash? I switched to Fidelity because I didn't like the idea of Robinhood being margin. Am I basically going back to the way Robinhoods accounts are set up?
@ThinkMoneyBenny3 жыл бұрын
if you have a margin account, all your stocks will show up at type Margin by default. but if you wanted it to be as cash, you can select that option as well. However, I would recommend having everything as type margin.

What is the margin interest rate? Fidelity always has all my orders going in as margin. I have to manually change it to Cash

Yes because in a margin account, margin is the default type. It’s the same thing as long as you have the cash available to cover it. I rather use type Margin for everything, because I don’t have to wait for trades to settle.
@ThinkMoneyBenny3 жыл бұрын
I asked a Fidelity rep that question today, and the interest rate to burrow using margin will vary on the account, depending how much you borrow. The more you borrow, the less the interest rate.

Then what happens once your funds settle, do you still owe interest?? What happens to your margin amount does it automatically take it from your cash? This part I'm confused about.

@@cyberchiggin5596 if you have a margin account, then nothing needs to settle. as long as you don’t buy more than your available cash then you won’t tap into borrowing.
