@@alanmartin4780 it’s ok to export the tracks from your recorder to a daw, for mixing and small edits, considering you’re out of the recording phase. Going out the daw into a console, then back into the daw or a 2 track tape machine could be fun!

I hear you! I've been recording on a Roland vs1824 unit for years and I absolutely love that machine they're so sturdy and professional built like a tank anyway I have the same issues with my DAW..crashing, latency issues the BS just never ends!! I sold my old ROLAND XP 50 wish so bad I still had that keyboard anyway I'm looking into the zoom r24 I suppose.... I have the zoom live track but like I said those things are like toys compared to those ROLAND units

It took me too long to figure out it is quicker and better to have another go. Even with a multitracker I was still laying down a bunch of sloppy takes then taking hours stitching them together. My playing improved a lot when I stopped doing that!

thanks for watching the video and you are not the only old school recording guy out there and for me as long as they make multi track recorders that is how I will record. I to do not like D.A.W.S and I do not like plug ins and I agree using those makes the music sound soul less for sure. I use real drums or my Alesis SR18 for recording drums as well. I have been looking into getting the zoom R16 as well seems like a great unit.

It is your preference. I can be better&faster(10x) with DAW than with portable multitrack recorder. And i don't know how to make some manipulation on portable multitrack recorder.

Back in 1993, I bought an Ensoniq ASR-10 and, in 1995, began recording its tracks onto cassettes, using a Tascam 4-track Portastudio. Put out a couple of album's worth of recordings that way and, since it was digital-to-analog, the sound was pristene.

@@user-cg4wp1im1r yes, it’s all personal preference. I agree (having used DAWs) that it can be faster using DAW, but I’d suggest “better” is subjective as it depends entirely on the end sound you are hoping to achieve. The stuff I’ve done with cubase, Logic and cakewalk all sounded over polished/pristine, even superficial and over produced (I liken it to the recording equivalent of plastic surgery!😅). The stuff I’ve done on the MTRs, has more warmth, depth, spontaneity and “liveness” to it, as it is definitely more difficult to manipulate or post record rectify the recorded tracks (other than put the signal through effects/modelling etc). I’m not saying I won’t ever use DAW again, but my first preference is definitely the “hands on” of the MTR. But all that matters ultimately, is we keep making music - however we can and however it makes us happy.

Exactly no having to buy the next upgrade or version to keep your DAW running multi track recorders or a one time buy it learn it use it and you are good to go. And I believe they also will make you a better player as well just because of there more old school style when recording. I say that because I always play through the whole song when I record each part I do not record in pieces or sections. thanks for watching and the great comment.

first thanks for watching the video and I am glad this video has made you feel more justified in your decision to go back to a multitrack recording system. I have always recorded with a multitrack since back in the day when I had a 4 track that used a tape. I messed around with a computer DAW but I just did not like it at all and like you said with all the update's glitches that can come with them as well as it cause your computer to freeze up or crash from time to time as some other's have said I just find it not to be as good as using a multi track recorder. So for me I will us a multitrack recorder for as long as they keep making them.

I've just come back from paying down on the Tascam DP32SD, and a Yamaha MT120 that had just come into the shop. That means I will have had the 50, the 100 and now the 120. I need a four track to play my old tapes and to record and get that four track demo sound. I will pick them up at the end of the month. For me being free of the CPU limitations and the upgrade rubbish just makes it worthwhile

I don't thing we are the weirdo's I think we are the smart ones lol! and ya DAW can be over whelming and it also causes you to not be as good of a player in my opinion because you can just always fix everything in post. Some of the best songs and albums out there actually have mistakes in them that turned out to be great mistakes that made the song or the album. Now they want to time a line everything and fix every little thing and most new music sounds like a damn robot is playing it in my opinion. There is something to be said for keeping it simple. thanks fo rthe great comment.

thanks you for the great comment and very well said and I could not agree more. As I have said in other comments for me recording with my multitrack recorder makes me a better player as I play my songs and parts all the way through when I record instead of this record a section and just cut and past. I do not know how many recording sessions I have seen where the band records an album just doing it in bits and pieces and then putting the song together and after it si all done then they ahve to go learn how to actually play the songs they just recorded. Which they should have already know how to play before the start of recording. My old band we would record ideas and stuff and then take those ideas and put them into songs then learn the songs we wrote and then after we had them down tight then would would go record them not the other way around.

I could not agree more with you on all these things I will never use a DAW as long as there are multi track recorder's available to use. And yes the DAW has made people lazy and and yes recording and playing your songs all the way through will definitely make you a better musician hands down and that is just one of the many reasons I like using a multi track recorder as well as I feel you get a better recording as well but that is just me I am old school and I love using my DAW and I do not have to worry about paying for new updates for it or it crashing on me or any of the other crap that happens and come using a DAW. thanks for the great comment and watching the channel.

The amp sims in the aw1600 are pretty great sounding actually. The reverb in them is the reason I bought 1 again recently, the reverse gate man! That is a beautiful verb, I've never found everything close to it in a daw.

thanks for all the great commentts for me like I have said I will always use a track recorder for recording as they are just easy to use at least for me they are and rock solid reliable and I just enjoy using them more then a DAW. We all have are preferences this just happens to be mine.

@@Rocktalk101 Yeah even though I fully understand PC setups, all that staring at screens etc just kills my creativity and spontaneous jams. I bought myself an old Yamaha QS300 keyboard workstation in 2021 for next to nothing, and it sounds great, has a sophisticated but simple to use sequencer, lots of tactile buttons and sliders. Within seconds of switching on, I can be jamming away and recording. Then two button pushes and all backed up. Even back with my old Fostex setup and Atari Cubase, I spent more time using the controls of the Fostex, only occasionally glancing at the computer to check stuff. My PC setup I have to strain my eyes looking at tiny plugin windows, and fiddling with stupid mouse or laptop trackpads. The playback/recording control transport gets lost under other windows. I had none of those aggravating issues with the Fostex way of working! Old school is best!

@@EgoShredder yep those are just a few of the issues I had as well with a daw searching for stuff losing it under another window I hared using a mouse or the touch pad to do things. Much easier and more satisfying to push a fader up and down with your hand then a mouse in my opinion. Like I said I will always record this way.

You can download the manual to the recorder from the fostex web site and it will walk you through how to download it and do the CD burning process.

Your like the second or 3 person that has told me they do that record on the multi track and then mix on there DAW. For me I just enjoy using a multi track and it does everything I need it to for recording my music. I do not need a bunch of plug ins and all that other mumbo jumbo because I actually have a very nice collection of amos I can use as well as guitars and multi effects pedals. You collect a lot of gear by the time you are 54yrs old in my case and I still enjoy plugging into a real amp. SO thanks for the great comment and let keep the multi track recorders alive and kicking!

yep they do but I can record just as fast on my stand alone unit as I can with a daw or at least that has been the experience for me I feel my stand alone unit is just easier and simple to use and has worked for me for many years but ya everyone has what they like and do not like for sure.

@@Rocktalk101 The main issue with using a DAW is that some people get caught up with all the options that are available for you to record to the point that they are not getting any recording done. Trust me, I was one of them. You don't get side tracked with the visuals when working with a stand alone unit.

@@Rocktalk101 Think I will bring out my Roland VS-890 and see what I can come up with..... I can midi sync my laptop with EZDrummer 3 for drums since I sold my Boss 550 MK II drum machine a few years back..... Great video.....

Do you record direct from mic/D.I thru Amp and pedals in to a track, and so to speak record direct to track and commit, Or do you record one channel Amp/Pedals, and a dry channel to mix both later?,..One Q more is do you compress the signal before or after the Pedals,..on the way into track.? @@aftertheendtimes So I always record the drums first and that is direct in from my drum machine after I have created the drum tracks. then I direct line record my guitar parts straight from either an amp with direct line out or I use my boss GT-1000 direct line out straight into the multi track recorder. every think is recorded on separate tracks and then EQ leveled mixed and mastered it gets compressed during the mastering phase which the track recorder does automatically when mastering the final track.\hope that helps.

I am very old school when it comes to recording all this new stuff is just way to much over kill. and I agree you loose the feel and flow in the moment with all this time a lined crap and all this extra editing. some of the best music recorded was done on small 4 tracks that using to use tap back in the day you got 1 or 2 takes to get it right. Jimmy hendrix himself recorded everything he ever did on a 4 track recorder. there is an old saying just because you can do it does not mean you should and for me less is more. thanks for watching the channel and appreciate the questions and comments.

So the tascam 24 as well as the tascam 32 and several other multi track recorders come with really good guitar and bass amp and cab sims as wells a slew of guitar and bass effects like chorus, fnager, delay, reverb, etc; built into them and they even have built in drum machines in them. as well. Hell zoom just put out a 4 track hand held that has amp and cab sims fo rguita and bass as well as built in drum machine and it is only $199 its the zoom R4. I have the zoom H4N pro and it has guitar and bass amp and cab sims in it as well as fuitar and bass pedal effects built in and they sound really good. It is what I use first when comming up with riffs for songs then I go record everything on my 16track once I have it all kinda put together in my h4n handheld. Anyway ya you do not need a DAW to create and record some great music. thanks for watching and the comment.

awson I have had a zoom Q2 I have used for years as well as my muti track recorder and now I am using the Zoom Q8n for all my videos and I am really enjoying using it as well.

@@Rocktalk101 But on all these recorders, wouldn't you want to at least import to Audacity t (or whatever DAW) to polish up parts, remove bad notes, shrink down level on certain parts, fade out/in etc...etc... or is this possible with what you have?

@@Blueguitar007 I can do all of that with this recorder and then some! this will do everything a DAW will do except be able to downlaod different type of plug ins. But as far as fixing notes and stuff like that what I do is record 3 or for tracks of each part and take the best of those playing the song all the way through. that is how they used to have to do it with the old reel to reel tape and it makes you a better player as well as really get food at playing your songs or what ever song you are recording. and it foes not really rake any more work in the long run because going back and editing and punching in and out parts to fix mistakes can actually end up taking you more time in the long run. Well that is at least how it works with me anyway.

I use the Alesis SR18 Portable Electronic Drum Machine With Effects and I highly recommend it as you can create any drum patterns you want and sequence them all together any way you want with drum fill's cymbal crashes ETC: it has a litl bit of a learningcurve but once you get it you will love it. there are several video's on line about it as well.

I see a lot of love for the korg KR55 PRO from people who want those features (beware there is no midi unfortunately and that part doesnt get any love). The drums sound like the Korg trinity which i have done amazing drum tracks with. Tip: run digital drums thru tech 21 Bass Driver DI you will be amazed.

@@Rocktalk101 thank you. I got myself the SR16 about a month or so ago. It has all the features I need.

ok so as far as pre amps I run my vocal through a vocalist live 4 vocal processor then straight into the recorder imput than as far as the compression on my recorder there is a standard compresion setting that you can use so I just have that on with the stock settings that my recorder came with. Fairly siimple and straight foward for me hense why I really like my 16 track recorder. I am a keep it simple stupid guy and that is how I try and record thigns as well as simple as I can.

Some push buttons have broken on mine, but I’ve fixed them. Still going solid. Other Fostex recorders that came before were the Fostex VF-160 and VF-80 …which I’ve seen in pawn shops and such ….looking around the manuals I’m sure they were released in 2004-2007ish. They have effects but lack the USB connectivity.

ya Fostex made a few versions back in the day actually wish they where still making them.

Ok I do not use any pre amps at all and My recorder has built in EQ which I use a standard setting on it which is one of the pre programed one though you can change it how ever you like. No special equipment either I use an MXL condencer mic and run it through my vocalist live 4 which is a vocal processor I have owned for many years. then straight into the recorder line 1. ad some reverb adjust the volumes and let er rip. I will also us a sure SM48 cardioid mic as well when layering the vocals together. as far as mixing and mastering my recorder is set up to do that so all I have to do is set the mix levels were I like them then hit the master button and it does the rest. if you go to my play list and look up music videos all the ones from the band silverflow which is my band were done with this recorder so you can check them out and hear how it sounds when finished. hope that helps and thanks for watching have not been down to El Paso keep rocking!

@@Rocktalk101 . . . The Digitech Vocalist Live 4 pedal that you mention helps for sure . . I have a Live 2 and it has a very good sounding preamp, the vocals improve for real. In regards to the mastering I didn´t know it uses a "master button" so there´s the function. I used to have an Alesis Masterlink I belive was the name and it was Ok to finalize the mix. @@jeffokriya3389 yes on this particular model there is a mastering button once you get your levels and mix how you like it all you have to do is hit the master and finalize button and it is done. and the best part is if you do not like it you can go back and fix things and do it over which is really nice.

yes it has phantom power for mic recording it also has on board setting to change the style of mic recording if you only have one kind of mic I.E. dynamic/condensor etc: You can use any type of mic you want with it. if you want to hear some full recording just watch my music videos I have released this past year with my band name silverflow and you can hear exactly how it sounds with a full mix recording.

Well I love my multi tract recorder I will tell you to get at least an 8 track or more and if you can go for a 16 track model as it will allow you much more versatility.

Ya that is just some of the reasons I still like using my 16 track recorder I do not have to dealwith all the issues that come with using a DAW on the computer. And I love using my Alesis SR18 once you get the hang of how to use it and create your on drum tracks it is a blast to use and works create I use it for live solo shows as well because I can program full songs drum fills crash and all that good stuff and create full songs from start to fish and then at just a touch of a foot switch start them and then it will end on its own when the song is at the end just like having a real drummer play with you. it take a little bit to learn but is well worth it in the end and there are some grea youtube videos out there on it that will help you figure it out faster then if you ae just rying to learn it through the manual. I highly recommend it as a drum machine to get.

So I do nor know anything about the br1200 but boss makes great products and I use a lot of boss stuff. the fact it has the CD burner is a definite plus.

well I will tell you I have burn many a CD and ran out to my truck to listen to it then came back in the studio and changed a few things and did it again. I have gotten to the point now though with my recorder that I knid of have it figured out but it is all trial and error my friend but you will get it just keep plugging away.

I use an alesis SR18 drum machine which has multible kits in it as well as allows you to create your own drum patterns and fills and program complete drum tracks from beginning to end it is an amazing piece of gear and no computer or expensive DAW needed! I use it all the time. it is great for recording or even using in a live show setting if you are a solo artist. There are many other drum machines that so this as well and they do not cost that much either which is nice so they will not break the bank.

if it has a direct line out on the back then yes you can if not you will have to mic up the amp cab or speaker it has. Also if it has a speaker line out to hook up another speaker cab then that can work as well and go direct into the recorder but a direct line out is the best way if it has that.

it can and does transefer files or your master track/song to a computer Via a usb cord all you do is plug it in and follow the promps to transfer your files to the computer that is how I get all my stuff out on the streaming services. But I also can burn an actual CD aas well if I choose and I do do as well to keep on file or make duplicates to give to people. this spacific recorder is very easy ro use and I have been recording song on it for many years. If you go to my play list and look up music videos you can hear how a final song sounds and comes out as I have several music videos I have released .

@@Rocktalk101 Yes. I've had my MR16 since 2014 & I've done many CDs and mixes on it but never got far enough along in the manual to the wav file section. I'm still using Windows XP(pro) so I was glad to see it's compatible and I'll soon be transferring my files cuz I need to get into streaming and sharing these tracks with my clients and students. I believe I'll still have to download a driver or file program from fostex to make it work. Is that correct? I've still got a lot to learn. I'll check out your other videos. Thanks.

@@bobbycottonwood000 So you are going to need a spacific cable that has the USB conection on one end and then the conection that hooks into the MR16 so look were it plugs into there and make sure you get tthe right conection. I was able to find the right cable at walmart so should be easy to ge one. Second get your manual out and go to the section that tell you how to export your riles to a computer it will walk you right through what you need to do to make it happen. Now if I remember correctly I think I did have to go to the fostex website and down load the right driver to my computer so yes you may have to do that but I do remember it was easy to find and download. I will try and make a video on how this process works as well in the near future. And it is nice to hhave a fellow MR16 guy out there. I will also say I am still earning all kinds of things it is capable of but I try and keep my recording simple and straight foward as well. if you have anymore questions are ever need help do not hasitate to reach out and I will try and help the best I can. that is litterly why I make videos in the first place is to try and help others as best I can with what I know.

@@Rocktalk101 Thanks for your help and thanks for your videos. I'll let you know how it turns out. I studied recording engineering at a local college for 3 semesters in 2012 & 13. We started out using pro tools but I felt like I was way over my head. Overall I did very well on the course but pro tools was my biggest challenge. My guitar player turned me on to the MR16 in 2014 but he didn't know anymore than we did but that was when CDs were still king. I had an akai dps12 for several years before. (& Still have it. The hard drive was limited so I switched it out and doubled the memory). But I wound up having to take it to the college studio and dumped the tracks on their daw and made CDs that way. It was more complicated and time consuming b'cuz I had to transfer the tracks in real time. So I'm glad I found the Fostex and have been using it since for all sorts of projects.

@@bobbycottonwood000 ya I am a keep it simple kind of guy and DAW especially freaking pro tools get way to complicated. Jimi Hendrix recorded all his stuff on a 4 track tape recorder. Recodring does not have to be complicated people just make it that way. And me personally if you start time alining everything and trying to make it perfect then you loose the emotion and the soul of the song or album abd things staart to sound robotic. But that is just my opinion. And if you took songs that were recorded back in the 70's 80's and 90's and shoved them into pro tools they would sound a lot different actually like shit lol! I love the fact I can just plug this thing in adjust my settings hit the record button and off I go! back in the day bands played the whole song all the way through the did 3 or 4 takes and kept the best take and that was it, Now with things like pro tools the record parts of songs or a riff and then cut and past or copy and past to creat a song and then do all that other editing stuff. Then the band has to learn the damn song they pieced together which is just crazy to me.

if your looking for a multi track recorder check out sweetwater they still sell them and have a good selection and prices as well for them. and the cowbell as well lol!

ok to play back what you recorded there you have to de activate the track you recorded on first then rewind that back to the beginning and either use head phones that there should be a plug in for or usually there are input outs that will allow you to hook it up to monitors which I have mine set up for both ways to record and listen to playback. sometimes the head phone out can be run to a set of monitors as well just depends on the recorder. hope that helps.

it does have USB so you can down load your finished songs or track straight to your computer and by pass recording on a CD.

So there are many options out there for yo uthat do not take up a lot of space and will work great for you. the TASCAM DP-008EX Digital 8-Track Pocketstudio or the Zoom R8 8-Track SD Recorder, Sampler & USB Interface these recoders will alllow you to record mix and master your music and down load it to your computer in mp3 and wav files and then you can burn them on a cd or send thin digitally. you can find lots of multi track recorder forsale at these places musicians friend, american music supply, and sweetwater sound there are many in diffierent price ranges to fit your budget as well. There is a little learning curve to each of them but by reading the manuals and watching tutorial videos on youtube you will be able to figure it out pretty easy. You do not need a big space to record music you can literally set up a recording studio in a small bedroom on a desk these days. it does not take a lot of equipment it just take a couple of things and you are off.

I would have to get some other gear, like cables, a mic (even though some have external mics), a drum machine and a musical keyboard. @@Rocktalk101 I just meant like when I eq an instrument, I can't seem to get in depth with cutting certain frequencies out, like I could on a DAW. I greatly prefer working with the hardware stuff. I'm just new to recording and can't seem to get the sound I want.

@@camlong89 gotcha ya it takes some time to get things dialed in and find the best way to get the right sound you want. Hell I am still working on it myself but I have finally come to a good place were I can make pretty decent recording now lots of trial and error but it is worth it in the end. Keep working at it and you will get it.

Reality is you need to get it right not just fix it in the mix later. My first 2 track was bouncing down from one caset to another lol wow and flutter where not an effect back then lol@@Rocktalk101

@@rodkrell1 I 100% agree and that is why when I record my songs it is not in pieces. I play the song all the way through each time for each part. Some times I have to do many takes to get it right and then I take the best take from them. It also makes you a better player in the long run as well as really making you learn your songs. I have watched many videos of bigger bands in the studio recording songs in pieces and then after they are done you will hear them say wow now I have to learn how to play my song I just recorded. But for me I already know how to play my song before I record the dang thing! lol! Well on my muilti track recorder I use there is time counter at the top of the screen you can see so it shows you exactly where you are in the song so if you are dragging dropping different tracks you can drop it exactly where you want to. But the way I record is I always lay down my drum tracks first then I reset back to zero and play the rhythm tracks the I do the same thing for the bass tracks as well. Then I will just punch in the leads and what ever other little licks or sections I want using the punch in and out functions. But I always play the song all the way through when playing my guitar rhythm tracks and bass tracks I never do it in sections. I also never use any sync or time a line feature's when recording either because I feel if you time a line everything trying to make it so perfect you loose the feel and real flow of the music and it starts to sound like a bunch of robots playing the song. so many people stopped actually listening to the music and started watching it on a computer screen and trying to make it so perfect that the feel and flow of music has been lost in recording these days. But that is just my opinion but one that I and Slash both agree on that is why he still records on old reel to reel tapes and plays with his whole band in the studio together in a live setting and they take the best take out of about 4 takes and that is what ends up on his albums. Just some food for thought anyway. As far as recording on a computer with a DAW I never use a computer just my 16 track as I hate daw's I like recording the old school way. But your DAW should have a time counter as well to help you a line your songs as well just depends on what you are using. Not sure if that helps but I hope it does. thanks for watching the channel.

@@user-cg4wp1im1r ok cool I have not tried that one out but it should be the same as far as recording I mean you can cut a splice and drop things in where ever you want and you can record your songs piece by piece as well my suggestion is to get you drum tracks recorded then you can just punch in and punch out each section of the song if that is how you like to record or you can just play all the way through like I do. But like I said as well don;t be so worried about everything being exactly time a lined I mean you want it to be as close as you can get but music has a flow and some of the best mistakes made while recording ended up being some of the best parts of the greatest songs out there. try just listening with your ears and if it sounds good to you the go for it and stop focusing on what it looks like on a computer screen. That is my suggestion anyway. And just keep working on it I am always trying to get better at recording all the time but there is a point were you just have to say that is good and I am good with it and then hit that export button lol! anyway wish you the best and if you have anymore questions I will do my best to help answer them.

well the recorder is 20yrs old so you can only get one like it used on ebay or reverb but there are many like it available at sweetwater or american music supply I would check out the tascam 24track or there 8 track depending on your needs but if you can offord it go for the 24 track. as far as my drum machine you can get that there as well or from musicians friend it is the SR18 by Alesis.

Yes I am still DAW-less I will always record on a multi track recorder as long as the exist. I got my CD duplicator from musicians friend years ago can't rememebr the brand name at the mment but they have several or did on there site back when I bought mine. And yes they are very practtical if you are going to be making a duplicating your own CD's rather then sending them out to get mass produced. I use to do all my label and logo printing on my CD's as well as mass producing them all in house for many years. and I still make C.D.s of my original music for people that want it in house hense why I have a CD burner in the first place. But with all the new tech out there you can send your stuff out to companies now that will do all the art work and everything for a good price so you have to decide which way you really want to go when procing your CD's

@@Rocktalk101 I see… and is there still a market for CD’s as regards your music fans? Do they tend to fall into a particular age demographic? Also… I’m looking to get an all-in-one self-contained unit like your Fostex but perhaps 24-track. Any recommendations?

@@MrSeeker42 the tascam 24 track is what I would get if it was me as that is the one I plan on buying next for myself as well but none of the newer ones have CD burners built in anymore you will have to download your music to your computer and then get an external CD burner for your computer if it does not have a built in one and then you can burn the master then pop it into the cd duplicator and make copies. as far as my music fans they get all my songs off of itunes spotify and all the other streaming services out there these days. I still keep my CD duplicator and all the other stuff to make a professional C.D. just in case someone actually ask's for a C.D. and also to burn C'D's for promo packs for giving to venues to get gigs in clubs as they want to see and here your songs and if you have a professional looking and sounding C.D. in the promo pack that goes a long way to getting the gigs. As far as age groups I have had people of all ages at my gigs if you write a good song and are a good live performer I feel you can bridge age gaps when it come to good music.

@@MrSeeker42 the TASCAM DP-24SD 24-track Digital Portastudio is the one I was talking about. and yes I think it sucks that everything virtual and for me I still like a good old CD in my hands. I will always be old school when it comes to music I like a good real amp Orange being my favorites none of this plug in crap my boss GT-1000 or some good ol stomp box pedals and my MR16 track recorder and I am off and recording!. and all this everything ahs to be time allined perfectly stuff is crap to! sounds like a bunch of AI robots playing music no groove and no soul. But that is just my opinion.

yes that is a good deal this recorder was around $599 when it was new so ya if you can get one that is in good condition for$150 that is not a bad deal at all in my opinion.

well if you did not like the zoom then I would recommend looking at some of the tascam recorders as they are a little more old school and easier to navigate but they all have learning curves but the tascam 8 track or 24 track might be what you are looking for they are close to what my fostex is an how it works. unfortunatly fostex does not make any recorders any more which sucks as mine is over 20yrs old and still working great! but depending on how many tracks you need I would try a tascam and see if you like it.

Just got the zoom r20 yesterday. Giving it a 30 day trial. Heard all the positive and complaints. But when I used it, so far it works perfect minus it not being able to go above 44.1k at 24bit. It saves all the tracks in separate wav files that I can later put in fl studio to run filters and tweak.

I do not pan my drums when recording you can pan them later when mixing and mastering if you want to. Also why did you ask me what a daw is when you are using Audacity? that is a type of DAW?

Well I agree with you that it is better to play the track twice rather then cpy and past the track as it will give it more of a stereo sound effect which does make it sound fuller in the mix for sure. And better for that matter as well. But some people prefer to copy and paste I do both depending on what I am recording at the time.

ok so first you have to turn your song into a stereo wave file by usimg the bounce mode to tracks 15/16 stereo wave file which the buttons for that are just under your display screen. ater doing that choose the song and go to CD-RW in your menu click on that then click on CD-burn then click on track at once then pick your track and then click on burn to CD and that is it. after you put how ever many songs you want on the CD then hit finalize and it will master the cd and pop it out. that is the quick down and dirty way to explain it, there are video's on youtube already about how to do this as well. Hope that helps.
