There are a few reasons why I wear a bindi daily, but this is a big one. I think that this is the next step for us as Hindus in the west.

The area where sindoor is applied is between the eyebrows, called the Ajna Chakra. This is the point that Sanatan Hindu Dharma consider the entry and exit point of our jivaatma (soul). It is challenge for the world’s greatest hypnotist and let him try to hypnotize a Hindu woman with bindi dot on her forehead. He can try till the cows come home, he wont be successful. This area is called the third eye of Shiva. Applying the bindi signifies her eternal link with the Supreme being. A Hindu woman firmly believes that this dot protects her from negative tendencies and forces.

Beautifully said! And yes, that is another reason why I wear a bindi. But today I wanted to talk about this particular issue that I think Hindus are having in the west.
@mrityudaata26997 жыл бұрын
Sanjeev Sharda this is what I was about to say and and looking for someone to share the truth. but I would also like to add to this that it is like practicing your presure point between your forhead by applying tilak or bindi and these are both same actually, authantically it is made by rubbing sandlwood on a stone with litle water and apply. And this is not only for woman but for man too. And what we see bindi today is all artificial, though these bindi add to the beauty but doesn't serve the real purpose. sandlwood is authantic.

Gosh.. I'm a Hindu living in the USA and I only wear bindis or for that matter wear Sarees or ethnic wear when I'm going to the temple or participating in a festival - religious festival. I feel so not proud right now. The reason I don't wear bindi or ethnic dress is just.. I don't want to attract attention, and blend in I guess. When in Rome.. 🙂

Nice Video. The main reason as per sanathana dharma why we wear a bindi is because it is a sign that we believe in reincarnation. I agree with you... we stopped wearing tilak to work places just so that we don't bring our religion to work place and most of the times... it is just not fashionable. thank you for making me realize that I am a hindhu first and should not shy away from showing i am a hindhu.

Beautifully explained. I haven't worn a bindi except when wearing Indian clothes, which is on those rare weekends. I have started wearing a bindi when shopping. The reason behind not wearing one was to blend in aka being invisible. Your speech is so mesmerising and made so much sense. Hindus are peaceful and respectful. We need to also be visible 🙏

Im white i live in west PA. My apartment complex has alot of Hindus. They are very family friendly almost always outside with kids in their sauris with Bindis. Very visible and actually very beautiful actually. We lost the ability for dress, modesty, and culture here our roots were pretty much ripped out so its great seeing people who are traditional and family oriented. Very friendly, would always wave back. At the time I just studied philosophy without knowing too much of vedic religion and now that I have emerged into vedic teachings I am very thankful for it has brought me to sanatana dharma and to God. . 🙏 bless the Hindus for keeping their faith for the centuries. I wish more would be more vocal and visible tbh.

Thank you so much for making this video. I'm writing a character who is a physicist from Lucknow, and I would like her to bear a bindi for several reasons. It allows me to have conversations between the characters about faith and science - how some people believe they can't coexist, yet there are many scientists of faith. Your motivation about visibility is a great one, and I would like to include that in her ideas. The main character she's interacting with is a 12-year-old American girl, which is a great voice for curiosity about Hinduism. I have to admit that it's daunting study such a rich and varied subject!

I live and study in the US. I am from India. I have been always very self-conscious and tried to fit in with others in US and have been feeling a disconnect with my true self. There are definitely elder people in my place in US who are either business owners or parents of students who have no issue wearing Bindi or Tilak and saree and dhoti. I was never able to take inspiration from them because of the age difference. Recently, I have been seeing young Hindu women in my place wearing Bindi, some young Hindu men wearing the Vaishnava Tilak or Shaivite Nama. I was surprised and I did secretly appreciate them for their initiative but did not have the courage to take inspiration. I was and still am a little frightened about Trump's influence and the bigotry that ensues. Thank you for giving me courage and channeling my thoughts into call for action through your video. I really appreciate it. By the way, I stumbled upon this video from a friend's Quora account. It is about how Christian missionaries are pouring money and resources into India and not getting returns except in few parts of the country: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ip-qq65eq7bSm30.html It appears they are trying their best to understand Hindu philosophies and write good Christian theological arguments to counter Hindu philosophies which may assist their missionary activities in India. In times like these, your video is a call for action that we should do all things possible both to create awareness about Hinduism through visibility and to intellectually defend Hinduism if required. Thanks again for this video.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I too am very frightened about Trump's influence. I can't stand how he is encouraging hatred and fear. We live in troubling times. It is easier for me to stand out because being white does protect me in some ways. So you should never do anything that will make you unsafe or make you feel unsafe! I should have said that in the video too. In "Trump's America" being visibly not-Christian can be dangerous, unfortunately :(

Im not an hindu but Am so attracted spiritually with the traditions. I feel connected somehow, I am a white westerner. coming out of catholic upbringing. My question please. . is does wearing this bindi bind me from anything. We are baptised with black ash during our festivals. And somehow i feel it locks you down . I dont want to be locked into any entity or religion.. Ive seen others speak of it being the blood of christ.. just feels as if it would prevent me ... from stepping outside TRADITIONAL beliefs...
@thewhitehindu7 жыл бұрын
I don't think so! Hinduism isn't bound up tight like that. I understand what you're saying because some of my family is Catholic too. But in Hinduism there is no obligation, there is no compulsion. Follow what feels right to you, use your inner guide, check in and see if it's bringing you closer to light and joy. Try things out, stop doing them, start doing them. It's all part of the journey!

Hello! I consider myself a Buddhist but i am very clearly white and very clearly English...this therefore creates an issue when it comes to wearing a Bindi. I myself have never worn a Bindi as I have always feared the argument of cultural appropriation being brought up, with people believing that I am only wearing a Bindi as a fashion statement. I therefore wanted to ask your opinion on a Buddhist, 17 year old, British girl wearing a Bindi? I know that there is a great link between Hinduism and Bindis and also Indian culture and Bindis (with reference to the Ajna or third- eye chakra) but this too is explored through Tibetan Buddhism. Obviously, if I were to wear a Bindi then it would only be during meditation and in a few locations that I felt as though it would be respectable to wear one but i wanted to have your opinion? I by no means want to offend anyone of any culture or religion or make it seem as though I am ignorant to the true value of a Bindi but i also don't want to have to suppress my Buddhism and feel as though my meditation is weak or that my physical and spiritual experience of myself is hindered because i don't feel or see a Bindi when looking in a mirror. Thank you in advance!

Just as an anecdote - bindi is worn by all in india - hindus, buddhists, jains, sikhs, christians, and in rare cases muslims (that is, those who are not packed in black bags). it is also worn in lanka, nepal, bangladesh, and, at times, in pakistan. so, I'm not sure if it can be a fit means to provide "visibility" as a practitioner of hinduism if that is what you wanted.

Tamils wear "pottu" (dot, bindi) not to show that they are Hindus, but because they think it makes them look graceful and adds beauty and dignity. Widows avoid "pottu." In fact the idea of Hinduism is not a dominant one among Tamils, and we are happy that way. We worship Lord Murugu, Lord Sivan, and many other Tamil gods, and they all have been classified as Hindu gods recently unfortunately.
@rajveer5187 жыл бұрын
murugan,ganaapati sivan & shakti & have always been a part of hindus ,Most indian states have its local famous gods its not unique to tamil nadu & that doesnt make them any less hindu & you dont speak for all tamils speak for yourself

Rajveer said: "...murugan,ganaapati sivan & shakti & have always been a part of hindus..." What you call "Hindu" is a very very recent phenomenon. Tamils have been worshiping Sivan, Murugan and Thiru Maal for several thousand years, even before the so called "Hinduism" existed. When migrations and invasions occurred, Tamils' language and Gods were mutilated and then made part of invading cultures. In Tamil culture, Sivan, Murugan, and Thiru Maal were all yogis and not heavenly entities. Thanks for your comments.

To start off, Karma - there is no proof it is an Hindu invention. It exists in Buddhism too (Hey, isn't Buddha born Hindu and later founded Buddhism? If you are asking this question then the answer is No, there were 23 Buddhas in the past before the final Buddha Siddhartha Gauthama was born, so technically Buddhism existed many centuries before people usually think it is created). So does Yoga. Yoga is not connected with Hinduism too, which means doing yoga don't make you a Hindu. I am curious, who is responsible for teaching the westerners such things about India and Hinduism! They have to be blamed. Sorry sister, the reason why im poking my nose in all your videos is that, since you are from west and you act as a media about Hinduism to the western world, I must check on it before any wrong info are spread. BTW, wearing Bindi doesn't mean you are a Hindu and bindi is never a symbol of Hinduism. You can see Catholics in my place wearing bindi as well. Bindi is actually a cultural symbol but not a religious symbol. ~Peace~
@chbilly44657 жыл бұрын
Karma is a Hindu concept, at least by origin. If you see any version of religious history (Indian or non-Indian), they say Vedic Hinduism predates both Buddhism and Jainism. I can show you proofs of Karma in the earliest of Vedas. Buddha was not a Hindu? This is the same thing Christians claim about Jesus Christ. That he was not Jew. Buddha was born to a Kshatriya family according to Buddhist scriptures themselves. Are you denying the authenticity of Buddhist scriptures on Buddhism? BTW Yoga is not from Hinduism. Yoga is Hinduism. Each and every path in Hinduism is a different form of Yoga. Bhakt yoga, Jnana yoga, Karma yoga, Raja yoga etc are examples. Bindi is from Hinduism. It is related to the third eye concept of Shaivism. Yes, Catholics use Bindi as they adopted it into their culture. I don't find it problematic at all. That does not remove Bindi from Hinduism. Just like Buddhists and Jains adopting Yoga does not remove Yoga from Hinduism. Having said this, I respect Buddhism as it is one of the most honest Dharmic philosophies. It is political connotations of Buddhism of modern era which makes these unfounded claims. This definitely bothers me.

@@chbilly4465 idk. It seems like many people just cannot tolerate people accepting Hinduism. After all it's a notion to make fun of Hindus, anything apart from that people find it hard to digest

bindi and tilak is used so that our mind could concentrate on that point,it is basically to concentrate our mind on certain point of head which is tratak point(enlightenment point)in the midst of eyebrow and forhead.when we contemplate we concentrate on that point to enlighten our mind.
