It's crazy how similar our anxiety/emetophobia/weight/therapy experiences are, right down to phone call anxiety. I can relate so so much. Thank you for being so honest and open, I'm rooting for you Amelia! x

I just wanted to say that you are incredibly brave. I have had anxiety and emetophobia for a while and it recently stopped me going to university. However since I came home I have been having therapy and as a result I am hoping to go back to university this year. I found this channel after I had started going to therapy and I have found that watching your videos talking about your experiences and how you have felt through it all has helped me alot, sometimes even helping me realise things I hadn't related to it we're linked. So thank you for being so honest and open about everything. Seeing your videos has helped me be more accepting of and open to all of the help around me. Thank you for helping me on my road to recovery. And again, you're incredibly brave, strong and honest and I guarantee your videos have helped many other people too. Thank you 😊 x

Thank you so much for posting this. I had to have anger management therapy, to help with the transition of schools, when I was in year 7 and I was really ashamed about it because I knew no one else in my year who was having therapy. So thank you so much for posting this cos it helps people to realise other people are going through it as well. ❤️❤️

Hey Amelia, I have been in the same situation as you in terms of weight and can absolutely agree with how annoying it is when therapists are focusing on just that one thing! I am naturally slim too and am not the most confident with my body. Thank you so much for opening up with us!

Super proud of you, I’m in therapy myself for anxiety (doing it online though because the idea of going and talking to someone is overwhelming), so we are not alone and it’s such a common thing! It takes courage getting help but it pays off, please keep talking about it! ❤️❤️

Well done for getting help Amelia! I've had similar bad experiences with doctors and understand how far back it can push you in your journey to get help. I actually had a counsellor say they couldn't help me. Hopefully you're on your journey to getting better Remember your audience loves and supports you xx

Even I have anxiety. It’s just I cannot say no to stuff that makes me anxious. I just have to suffer and go through it. It’s healthy for you as you say no to things that makes you anxious.

Thank you so much for posting this video! I've recently started therapy for the same phobia as you (and anxiety) and I've had similar concerns about the phone calls and questionnaires, etc. I actually haven't had a face to face session, just a couple of over the phone sessions, which led to an online CBT course on a website called SilverCloud. I'm going to put effort into it because I really want it to work, but if it doesn't, you've made me less afraid to speak to someone face to face. Like how you said your family holiday was a turning point, something happened to me in December which really made me realise that I couldn't live like this any longer. I look forward to seeing how you progress with this in the future (if you choose to share any more of it), and again, thank you. x :)

Good job for getting help! It's really difficult, I hope it all goes well for you. The first time I went to get help I was 18 and they told me I was "too young" to be dealing with mental health problems. It took me months to go back when I was in full swing of a break down and that doctor diagnosed me. I also had glandular fever a few years ago, and around a year after my tonsils were still swollen (they still are, I'm also still really tired a lot and it destroyed my immune system), but as a singer, my tonsils being swollen made it much harder to sing, so I saw a doctor, who referred me to an ENT. I went to see the ENT alone despite my anxiety, because I didn't know if there was anything I could do, or what my options were. The ENT said surgery was the only option but he wouldn't consider it because of my weight. Which sucked, I was sad but I accepted it. I asked if there were other options, he said no, you just need to lose weight. I nodded and said "I'm trying, I actually just got a cross trainer" (and was super proud because depression/anxiety/still tired all the time from glandular fever), and he said "that won't help, eat less" and there was a nurse in the room who was cleaning some stuff by the sink, and she turned around and looked shocked, and asked if I was okay. I nodded, but I cried all the way home. Don't get me wrong, I love the NHS, I appreciate it deeply, and the doctors are usually amazing with my mental health/I've had kidney infections which lead to loads of tests and stuff and they were wonderful, but the ones that stick out are unfortunately the ones where they shot me down when I was trying. If anyone gets shot down by a doctor, I'd definitely say try again with a different doctor, most of them are good, and don't let the few who aren't deter you from getting what you need from a service they're there to provide x

This is me! I thought it was just me but honestly, down to the smallest detail you describe matches how I am on a daily basis. I love food too but if I am going somewhere, particularly travelling, I limit what I eat and the type of food I eat and the anxiety I feel in the days leading up to travelling is overwhelming. I don't know how to approach therapy though really

If you want to know about IAPT (Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies) in your area without going to your GP then you can google IAPT and the name of your county/ borough. How many self-referral options there are in your area does vary. But you can skip the GP stage if that is something that is stopping you getting help. x

I love how you're critical of the process but fair to the NHS, I find a lot of people just get angry with the long waiting and red tape (which granted is very annoying) but its fully government funded and we as a country are so lucky for that! Thanks for sharing your experience :)

Samantha Evans I have the same fear! I thought I was like the only one with this fear (although Amelia's phobia is similar so relating to her helped a bit). I also try not to eat when I'm home alone and I try to eat soft foods so I won't choke. It really sucks and I've been trying to deal with it, I think it has gotten better than it was a year ago. I think talking about it with my friends and explaining it has really helped a lot and they're very supportive and helpful.

Samantha Evans a lot of times the food gets stuck on my tonsils which are too big but I haven't found a doctor that will take them out which really sucks (they have to be like infected and I have to have a fever for them to come out).

Lauren Power what's EMDR? ♥️♥️
@laurenpower7044
@laurenpower7044 6 жыл бұрын
MandevilleVlogs it stands for something to do with rapid eye movement and involves moving your eyes quickly and going back to past memories. You can do it for positive things to make you feel relaxed in times of stress, and in therapy you can go back to memories that made you feel bad about yourself and anxious, think about a better way to act, and then do it. It’s really weird as it felt almost real, and actually worked. Xxx

I've had cognitive therapy twice because of my depression and anxiety and i know what u mean how some therapists and gps or whatever jst dont listen and seem 2 lack understanding of what you are trying to tell them - i dont know how i felt about therapy i picked up a few things from it but i dont think it worked for me - anxiety tablets btw (propanalol is probably what they would put you on) is an absolute life saver, i know u dont want to take anything but honestly lol anti-depressants arent great but anti-anxiety tablets changed my life xx

Hi Amelia this is probably going to be a very long post. Basically I have the exact same phobia as you and it's crippling. So much so I don't get out the house, at that point enough is enough and I decided to get help. For me theory and CBT hasn't helped which really made me feel hopeless. However I have found something that gives me so much hope. Like so much and it may help you to. It called thrive. I think if you Google 'thrive emetophobia' there website pops up. Basically it's a book only £20 which helps you get rid of your emetophobia and anxiety, depression any anxiety based phobia even OCD and ME. Anyway off topic. I read the book and it helped me so much with understanding why i have emetopobia however i felt like i need help with the activities that are in the book so i contacted a consultant with thive which is helping soooo much. However it costs an arm and a leg so on that case don't recommend unless you want to pay. There have been stories of people curing themselves in a few weeks even days with consultants but reading the book does the same just a little longer. If you're like what is this guy talking about, they have recently created this group on Facebook where people ask for help or tell positive stories about getting better I'll add a link so you can join it. They only created it a few weeks ago so it's not that big also it gives you an idea of the book. facebook.com/groups/emetophobiahelp/ I hope you find something that works. Also I'm willing to send you my book when I'm done with it if you want. Just in case you where on the fence. One thing I just want to say that is in the book that may make you think a little. 'You are not scared of sick because if sick was scary everyone in the world would be scared but they are not. Instead you're scared or the emotional response you give to sick.' Hard to get your head around but in a way it's true as instead of 3% of the UK with the fear it would be more like 90% and always on the news. Thanks for reading. Well done for speaking up.

I believe that anxiety can be caused by unresolved trauma(s), abuse, neglect, abandonment, ect.... I do know that anxiety can diminish one's appetite as well. I believe in medicine for an illness, but for anxiety, you need to learn how to reprogram your thinking and sort out any unresolved issues.
