This not just youtube 'content'. There's real value here in this video. I wish I learned this information at school. I started to study again - on a later age - to get my master's degree to be able to find a job in the discipline of automation engineering. But through the entire course I didn't learn anything about how companies work with ERP, MES, and especially cloud. I didn't even learn the meaning of those abbreviations. All I learned was related to PLC, Scada, electrotechnics, mathematics etc... It's only very recently that I started to be curious about the other stuff as well, in particular MES because I'm contacted by a MES company because appearently that's something that would also be one of my opportunities to work in, as an automation graduate. It's also becoming more and more clear to me why cloud engineers are so highly wanted. But as I learned from your video, cloud's all about logs and machine learning on those logs. Even though I think it's a nice career to have, which probably makes a lot of money, this is something I'm not really interested in because I like to see the end result of what I'm doing in practice. I like to see the machines doing their automated tasks, robots, etc... But on the other hand I do like to learn more about IT as well. This probably makes working as an MES software engineer also a possible good career choice. Anyways, I don't know where this comment is going to but I just want to conclude that I'm glad that I'm finally learning about what MES actually is and how it's working in the automation stack. This is very interesting and will definitely help me in my future career-choice. Thank you!

That commitment to the technology you see in Musk is also commitment to a vision, something you have in common. I have to say that when I came across your videos I thought to myself "I found my tribe." Rockwell, siemens, OSIsoft... are still selling the past, and iot/ai platforms aren't selling the whole picture, certainly not the "whole product" from any one industry standpoint.

Very informative! It's refreshing to hear an experienced solutions provider lay out the facts in such honest simple terms. The problem I have is the majority of my existing clients have the same need to adopt this technology but have NEVER used ERP or MES software and some don't even have SCADA. Plant equipment, although operating with very complex PC and PLC based controls, is connected to order entry, production scheduling, and shipping solely by daily multiple hour long meetings essentially by sneakernet with printed reports from filemaker pro, or excel or some obscure internal system. This is going to be a challenge!

Question - I've heard you mention Cloud for AI/ML several times in many videos, in relation to optimizing PLC/MES/ERP. Can you name any existing AI/ML tools that are actually in use that do review PLC through ERP as the whole stack successfully? I haven't heard anyone else advertise that capability that I know of, so wondering if you know of any or are only saying that is where the industry should go eventually. Thanks

Without IIoT, if we till want to make ERP, MES, or SCADA talk to Cloud ML, I think it will be very expensive and time taking. Correct?

If your backend DBs can pump data to the Cloud or if all three Apps have DB hosted on the Cloud, then yes you should be able to. IIOT is still work. There is no magic out there...
