I've been having these since my early 20s that I can remember. I'm 42. For years the paralysis dreams involved things going on in my room, snakes, people trying to break in through my window, once a small boy was standing in my doorway with one leg and no arms. All terrifying. Lately, it's been something in my room. Last week it was trying to pull me out of bed which is not the norm for me.

I respect this mans intelligence but I believe it something more than just science. I’ve always questioned why it’s always evil. First had it in my teens up until I was in my 40’s. terrified the shit out of me! Was always accompanied by a ringing in the ears, similar to a DMT trip. In the latter years I leaned to enjoy it. If I relaxed and fought the fear I could turn it into a lucid dream or a couple of times into astral projection. (None of which I believe to be a real or spiritual thing) I did notice that if I’d been out partying hard and had a lack of sleep, this would sometimes be the trigger a day or two later. I did also notice that during the day leading up to an episode, if I closed my eyes I could experience what I can only describe as a ‘third eye vision’. A high definition scene would just appear, usually of some random landscape with complete clarity. The brain is a weird and wonderful thing!

I get sleep paralysis when I'm super tired. I don't see demons. My best recovery method is to remind myself not to panic and let the paralysis take its time. In seconds, the madness stops and i resume normal sleep. The more you panic the longer it lasts. If you're super tired, take a minute nap then continue your normal in your normal bed.

He crushed me and crushed me, I felt all his weight on my chest. I still remember the smell of him, while he was breaking my ribs and choking my neck. I woke up terrified, soaked and shaking. So makes sense when he said about traveling, as its similar to being jet lagged. when you work nights then go into days and the sleep cycle is out of wack... I had the feeling of being straggled and sometimes worse like he said! After it went on for a while i started to understand it turn it into lucid dreams like he said and i could pretty much do anything i wanted in my dreams, fly, steal anything, sleep with anyone lol it was mental I used to love going to sleep after a night shift as I knew i could get into a lucid dream and have the a great time haha... never happens anymore now i work normal hours and im tired from family life

I have sleep paralysis quite often, few times a week when I have a bad spell of it. Can't sleep on my back because most of the time it leads to it. had very different Experiences. Seen shadowy figures, grim reaper coming out of my wall, felt like I was being resuscitated by faceless people and other weird stuff. Also have it alot more with out hallucinations, just trying too move and I scream and yell sometimes feeling it hard to do that in paralysis. Other times I can kick out of it and roll over and go to sleep. Just got use to it over time but it is so bizarre, frightening, odd and crazy. Started in my early 20s 12-14 years ago. Never had it after a heavy night out though that I can remember, read it can be a cause.

I get sleep paralysis all the time and lucid dreaming experiences where I can control the dream. When I become aware that I am dreaming, I can also control the dream. I can control the dream by predicting what’s going to happen next. You see negative things during sleep paralysis, because that’s what you were looking for. Is there an intruder in the room? Yes! Is there a monster? Yes! The answer is always yes.

It's interesting, during my first episode of sleep paralysis I heard a lot of white noise first, then saw a shadowy figure of a man who paced around my bed, it ended after a sensation of a knife to my throat. But I thought during other episodes if I refused to see the figure then I'd be less scared, but the feeling of dread or like someone is there just stays even if you don't see it.

I went through a period in my early to mid-teens where I had it almost every time I slept, even during short naps. I used to dread sleep because it was so frequent and terrifying. I would feel the choking sensation and pressure on my chest, and pure, cold, visceral dread unlike anything I’ve ever experienced while awake. I’d sometimes also hallucinate deafening sounds and blinding lights, and occasionally malevolent manifestations like a heavy black beast growling in my ear while it crushed me. And the weird thing about SP is that it’s so, so real. Not even the most vivid dream can compare. Luckily I grew out of it and only experienced it very occasionally. Haven’t had it in years now.

I get it very often.. never knew sleep paralysis was a thing and mentioned what was happening to my doctor and he said what it was… I start panicking because I can’t move and the only thing I feel like a can control is breathing and eye movement so I start panting trying to get someone’s attention to wake me up because I feel like something is just outside the door and going to come in any second and attack me. The people who’ve seen me doing this say I just look like I’m sleeping but having a nightmare.. no heavy breathing.

I’ve been getting sleep paralysis for the majority of my life. This makes a lot of sense to me, as the years have gone by I don’t get as scared when it happens anymore and as I’ve gotten less scared I have stoped seeing scary things. When I was around 17 (25 now) I was sleeping on my sister sofa and I woke up paralysed. The next thing that happened was the light turnt on (impossible) in the room, then a death type figure came in the room, sort of like a dementor from Harry Potter. It was floating above me screaming, and shaking the whole room, it felt like I was in an earthquake. I was screaming for help, but nothing was coming out of my mouth. I don’t fear it anymore, I enjoy it. I only get it when I’m sleeping on my back. I can’t fall asleep anymore unless I’m on my side.

It makes so much sense. haven't heard anyone say that they screamed though? I'm always trying to scream to get someone to shake me to wake me up. I finally scream and wake myself up if no one shakes me. Its pure terror. It doesn't matter what the vision is, it's usually a person but the terrifying part is the instant feeling of OH GOD IM PARALYZED AND I CANT SCREAM. And if it happens once I know it's gonna happen every time I start to fall asleep that night. My mom would scream also. Anyone????

I woke up on my bed and couldn't move anything but my eyes, heard my front door bang of the wall and something or someone running up the stairs, and felt a presence at the door of my bedroom, I couldn't see it though, about 10 mins of this then I started to move or wake up. Scariest night of my life , never again please.

I get sleep paralysis a lot and I’ve only had one time where my mate was in the corner of the room cracking jokes and I was vividly laughing but in reality was unable to move or speak. Most the time it is something evil but I’ve learnt to control what I see and it’s kinda cool lol

I’ve had it twice in the same night…the first time there was this silhouette of a tall man, I was trying to make noise to wake up my dog which was hard to do but was able to make the faintest noise and that woke me up. The second time everything was the same as the first but I recognized what it was and laughed it off and the feeling of laughing woke me up.

Speaking about the fear aspect of Sleep Paralysis. I used to get it a lot. So much so that I recognized it as sleep paralysis instantly. Now I don't fear it at all I rarely get it.

I had it for about a year and it was horrible. I don’t remember any creature or person but going to sleep was a loud buzzing and not being able to move at all. Finally was able to work out trying to rub my thumb and first 2 fingers together and break the paralysis. Hated it so much. Sent my panic attacks soaring. Sleeping was just as crazy.

First time I had sleep paralysis there was something at the foot of my bed watching me sleep and it began crawling up my bed to me and started scratching at my bed trying to get to me. It had long fingers I can only describe as looking like the Grinch but fully black. Absolutely terrifying.

Then the next time I had it I heard it before I saw it so I knew not to open my eyes because of what I'd see. What I heard was a little girl laughing and skipping round my bed and the longer I had my eyes closes it kind of over lapped, over and over again and got louder and more aggressive, then suddenly I could move again.

I get it all the time now and I've learnt to embrace it, in fact now I have my best nights sleep when I get it because I just feel so relaxed like I can't feel my body at all its amazing. When you first get it and it's scary try moving your toes first, this always broke me out of it.

Also if anyone is interested in triggering sleep paralysis, take a high strength complex vitamin B tablet just before you go bed. Obviously be careful.
