Reduces downforce, sends the wind over your car, helping you go faster, but also reduces stability around the corners, where this wind turns into dirty wind. On straights : Less downforce required for more speed On corners : More downforce required for more stability

I haven’t watched the video yet but it’s simple logic. While behind another car the affect of downforce is significantly reduced which is a benefit on the straights (higher top speed) but through corners you’ll lose time behind other cars because you need downforce to carry as much speed as possible through the corner.

Does anyone know if there has been an effort by any team to optimize their aero package for running in dirty air?

Another way dirty air works is the hot exhaust fumes from the car ahead. Hot air is less dense than cold air meaning there is a less 'surface' for the wings and so on the 'push' on.

basically you could have just said, its the same thing, its only called dirty air in corners and slipstream on straights, because you use different traits of the air blowing against depending on where you are, and what you are doing

tldr getting behind your opponent in straight line is good, but in corner is bad

In short and not so complicated: Dirty air and slipstream are the same. Reduction of downforce/drag due to another car clearing the air in front of you allready which results in higher speeds on straights due to less drag/downforce and and lower speeds in corners due to missing drag/downforce.

So the term "Dirty Air" is mostly a misnomer. Outside of the air being heated, it is really more of a lack of airflow than heated air. So low downforce tracks (faster corners) would actually promote more passing (racing) than high downforce tracks. It makes you wonder why here aren't more tracks with mostly high and medium corners. How different would racing be if it ran in late fall to early spring, rather the late spring to mid autumn.

If so, then why is DRS zone on straights and not while cornering? DRS is much needed in corners than straights, as on straights the car behind is getting the advantage even without DRS. Please explain

Not sure if this video still has valid argument cause i dont see this thing happen in actual F1 race in nowadays. Every driver are racing closely behind each other in straight line and even when in corner.

I'm the 101st like on an F101 video. I find that pretty funny.

F1 needs to make it so more downforce comes from the underbody like what they’ve done in Indycar to improve the racing. With the ridiculous budgets of F1 they probably could produce a lot of downforce underneath the car rather than rely on a front and rear wing (for the most part).
