Saw the movie, and having investigated crimes against children, Jim Caviezel nailed the emotions those agents and detectives go through.

Isn't the whole point for us to wake up and say, "We don't want our children abused!" and stand up for what is right and pay attention in our own communities? Isn't this a call to action? Thank you Sound of Freedom! You succeeded! People are waking up.

If someone spends a large portion of the movie exhausted and crying is a tiny spectrum of what these children go through. This film was needed regardless of anyone's comfort level. Who cares what others think or say against the movie. Opposition does not matter only the children and those who rescue them.

Just so you know, Angel studios has a page on their website dedicated to information about how to find resources, groups that can be supported by each of us, giving us places for more education, and what we can personally do to stop trafficking. Another reason I think the movie is successful because it personalizes the story. We can talk about numbers, which are horrible, and the un-named victims, but the numbers need faces and a compelling story. I think this movie provides them.

I think your “complaint” for the end of the movie is merited. However, after seeing the movie I immediately engrossed myself in getting more information about Tim Ballard and his organizations, listening to hours of interviews on KZfaq, getting the behind-the-scenes (back story) on the movie, hearing many more of his stories and learning that organizations that help with the aftercare is key in the healing process.

I saw the movie and it was incredible, some tough moments but definitely a MUST SEE!!! Everyone clapped at the end. It opened my eyes in so many ways. I knew without a doubt that goodness and good people ARE out there and thank God for that! We need to stand up and share this, let it be known we can't look away from this issue. These are our children. When you see it, you can't help but put yourself in the shoes of these kids, parents, Tim Ballard, and his wife’s shoes... My goodness. Get a ticket, they are even giving them out for free with a pay-it-forward system that's so incredible. Thank God for the brave lightworkers! A MUST-SEE! God’s children are not for sale. God bless everyone who helped get this movie out to the masses.

I saw the movie this week. The theatre was packed. Although I'd agree that it didn't end with as much catharsis and a sense of revenge and justice like one might want, I still found the movie hopeful and challenging. Out of interest, the theatre I was in broke out into applause at the end of the movie and again after the special message, by Jim, at the end.

As a father, this is a topic that is painfully difficult to confront, and I appreciate the filmmakers courage in shining a light into the dark corners where this evil thrives. It doesn't surprise me that the ongoing culture war fervor has driven substantial numbers to see this movie, so I pray that this movie doesn't become another polarizing political axis where we all dutifully gather at each end and yell at each other. It's hard for someone on the progressive side like me to tune out the shouty voices wearing QAnon hats, but hopefully we all finally take a serious look at this evil and decide on some effective means to push back against it.

The film and it's struggles has been a miracle, pretty much since day one. From a large portion of investors pulling out just days before filming, to those that actually were supposed to be security for the film been approached by traffickers thinking they were just part of the film crew and the guys taking them down, while they were working on the film in Colombia where they were filming on location. To the issues with distribution. It is the little film that could and those that made it refused to give up on it. Taking nearly 5 years since completion to get it on the big screen.

This movie is more for awareness and a call to action than it is for entertainment. It is to shake everyone up and bring all of us together to do something. I feel like I have been picked up and shaken by the scruff of the neck and set back down. This movie is an attention getter.

My thing going into seeing this movie is like you say "how can they possibly make this with child actors".. I was concerned. Yet they were able to do it and protect the child actors as well. Great. I think the kids only were aware about "trafficking" and "abuse" in general and not exposed to the details. So I was happy with that and amazed that they could pull that off and make a compelling movie on this subject. I think the message at the end is perfect. You can only win by having exposure to this evil. Everyone is going to go away in a few years will forget the movie. The choice is a few people contributing money ONCE. Or a MASS of people having exposure to this and though they forget the movie in time, they will change their minds long term or permanently about trafficking. It is the same as give a FISH once or teach many people about the FISH. They will know about the FISH for the rest of their lives and we need people to get the word out. More people mean more will be done. Money is nothing but People are where work is done. We have to understand the difference between MONEY and PEOPLE.

That real terrifying/unbelievable part is when they showed the live body and security cams from the actual events that took place.

So, for years ive been aware of the issues this movie brought up. I support a ministry called Kaleb House. They go knock down doors and rescue those in need. But they dont stop there like so many do. They focus on what happens next. Rehabilitating those rescued. In a "train them up in the way they should go" way. TJ Brooks is the founder. Also known as Bear Independent here on YT. I would appreciate if anyone interested in doing some good, at least looking into them. And perhaps supporting their mission of "rescue and rehabilitation of victims of child sex trafficking"

The conversion scene in the movie mirrors the conversion of John Newton, the former captain of slave ships who had a conversion experience and wrote Amazing Grace. He lived out the rest of his life in humility and penance and was instrumental along with William Wilberforce in the abolition of slavery in the British Empire.

I also felt sad that there wasn’t some sort of solution other than sharing the video. I thought about it and realized we can’t do much about the evils done in secret because they will always find a way to do their fathers work (the devil). What we CAN do is educate parents globally about child safety and maybe even find global solutions for getting technology out to these places where children can maybe have some sort of tracking device on them or something to that degree. Towards the beginning of the video there was actual footage of kids being kidnapped and it seemed like every time they were kids playing on the streets without adult supervision. So that to me seems like the approach to take, educate the parents.

im not right wing or christian but i loved this movie (well maybe love is the wrong word but, you know what i mean) and im utterly baffled by the reaction to this film from mainstream media. maybe the actor believes in some conspiracy theory, but so what? tom cruise is a scientologist and we still love mission impossible! the film itself never felt preachy or like it was trying to convert me, the message of the film was plain and simple, and i think everyone agrees with.

Your balanced approach to religious matters was manifest in your review of Sound of Freedom. If the film had a strong ideological message from either side, it would have lessened its impact. As you say, it needs to take us to a next step of personal involvement and, if telling your friends to see this movie too, is all they gave then they missed the mark. Here is the most powerful moment of your review: when you spoke of the birth of your daughter it was a moment of true anamnesis. Like the Jews celebrating Passover or Catholics celebrating Eucharist, you weren't speaking of a moment in time that happened long ago, in the telling you were in that moment. It is written all over your face; you were present at the birth of your daughter in the recounting of that moment. Go back and look at it again. Sheet beauty. thanks for all you do.

I always appreciate hearing you talk about your kids. You have a way with words that describes my own soft dad heart toward my kids, and especially that unlocking of a level of love that I didn't even know was possibly the first time I held my daughter. Some facts. 90% of child sexual abuse is from either a family member, or someone close to the family. Near 90% of the perpetrators are male (fathers and brothers). Child trafficking is a problem, but obviously the much larger problem is the abuse that happens within the family.

I guess my main problem with the movie is that all the movie does at the end with the special message is to get people to pay for others to see the movie, which in turn just means money for the movie studio. I wish they offered that AND maybe an additional QR code or links to actual sex trafficking NGOs where you could donate to them directly and find out how you can actually support them instead of just “being aware”

What youre describing, on an emotional level, is how i have and do feel about the Todd Agnew song "Peace On Earth". Would recommend it as the close to it harkens to this very issue of "how can there be so much evil"

The movies gives no emotional break because it telling the story of those children who get no emotional break from their abusers. I think the movie did an excellent job of making the audience feel those emotions

You point out that there is no major triumphant victory by the hero hero over the larger group of bad guys still operating out in the world, which I believe was a deliberate choice in the sense that seeing that this story is relatively based on true events, the viewer is left with two conclusions when they walk out of the theater: 1. This problem is broad and entrenched all throughout the globe 2. It is still going on to this day all around me By not including a huge cathartic payoff, the view is left desiring a greater payoff, but the greatest payoff is not to be realized on screen, it's to be realized in our own communities all over the world actively in an ongoing manner. By being left in a stating of desiring more closure, more viewers will be prompted to become more involved and aware than just another 'Taken' style movie could ever hope to deliver. And thank you for including links for others to become more involved. The only way this problem can ever really be dealt with is by more involvement from more and more people.

There are only a small handful of reactions to this movie. You either feel sick, nervous, or angry. If you don’t feel anything you either deal with terrible situations on a regular basis or you might be on the wrong side of the aisle so to speak.

Matt, I think a follow-up for this, on why it’s been so maligned… might be in order. That’s what has been so confusing to me. Is it just because it’s guilt by association? Is it projection? Is it secondary themes that are being used for outright dismissal? I haven’t seen much of the press, but it doesn’t seem to have the tone of ‘There are some right leaning elements here, but the message of this film needs to be taken to heart. Go see it.’ Curious how and what could have been done different, to not have garnered such a visceral response from the critics.

Saw this movie. Thought it was a perfectly fine, professionally-made film. It's a "Taken"-level extraction drama. If all the chatter and social media is stripped away, and this was a film that just came on TV late at night, you would never think "oh, this is a right-wing faith-based film". But the chatter surrounding this film is... mind-numbing and distressing. I posted a review on my Facebook page and got people from both sides of the political spectrum copy-pasting complaints and conspiracies about this film. I've seen parroting of those talking points already in these comments. I can tell you the articles you read that you got your talking points from. From the comments on my FB review, I believe that most of those people in my circle who are championing this film do believe they are sticking it to the libs, and they believe that Tom Hanks is probably the leader of the Hollywood cabal in charge of extracting adrenochrome from baby blood in order for them (the Hollywood elites) to remain eternally youthful. Equally, though, the liberal commenters believe this film is a Qanon fantasy and that this film is funded by and a proponent of all the dumbest Qanon conspiracies. I weep for both sides... Here are some truths: -Child sex trafficking is real and a bigger problem than any of us probably realized. -Tim Ballard has exaggerated many of his accomplishments and has been a little over-the-top in his extraction planning. -Jim Caviziel is an incredible actor and gives a haunting, believable performance. -Jim Caviziel is a Qanon nutjob and is doing serious damage to his testimony because of it. -This movie has more profanity in it than Scripture. -This movie is NOT a documentary and shouldn't be treated as such, either from the fans or the critics. "-Based on a true story" is as shaky and vague as it is for pretty much every "based on a true story" movie. -Rescue and Extraction shouldn't be the default solution we jump to or support because it probably isn't the best solution and probably can cause more harm and danger to these kids than using other strategies to free them. -While the Jeffery Epsteins of the world are real, the focus of this being common and a purview of only "the Hollywood Elite" that so many of the conspiracy theorists obsess is myopic. -There are monsters on both sides of the political aisle, from all walks of life, all economic levels, all types of workers and CEOs and everything in between. -Just from the massive attendance of "how to overcome porn" conferences in my local churches, dealing with sexual sin and addiction isn't just a problem of the wicked left. -AMC Theaters did NOT try to shut down the film from being seen. Just because one theater (out of 4000) had an A/C problem, and another had an audio problem is NOT proof that "They" want this film to fail and will do everything in their power to shut it down. -This film is on track for $100 million after THREE WEEKS... if Hollywood is trying to shut this film down, they are doing a terrible job at it. -This film isn't saying that all child trafficking is from people starting up sex islands or kidnapping them from the streets. Just like the "experts" say happens in real life, the movie depicts a person who had gained the parents and children's trust using that to abduct the kids. It's literally the plot of the film.

Negative press by the drive by media claiming it is dangerous is what intrigued me to watch it. Keep up the opposition and more will see it for themselves.

This was a true story can you imagine what the children are going through & the adrenaline the men are having, and some of the film was actually footage of what happened. The children they saved are going to come out and tell their stories.

I don't think they made a mistake by delivering "diminishing returns" as you say. I think that was the actual point. I think the purpose was to brow beat us. Sometimes that's the only way you can get the point across. And this is a very serious point. The way it was shot, even though the 2 kids were rescued you witnessed what happen to them, so you walk away from this KNOWING this is what's happening out there and it leaves you with such an unease. I believe that is the film's intent.

I think I'm unsure why this has become a Christian issue versus a worldwide issue, and why this is politicized and what the average citizen is supposed to do about it.

Just a simple comment I was driving, going on errands, slowly passed a home with two little ones playing in their driveway, I actually was fearful for them. I thought, oh my gosh, an adult needs to be out there with them, someone could kidnap them.....this was in a city. And, I don't think I was overreacting. We have to get real about the world we live in....take precautions, parents. That short reaction was a result of seeing the movie. 💖

In doing my own vetting of The Exodus Road, there's a significant number of complaints (mostly ex-employees) who detail disturbing info about the organization. Have you, Matt, had any personal experience with this organization to where you can vouch for them?

I went to watch Sound of Freedom three times. The reason was that I couldn’t understand why these emotions were produced on me, in part, and also with the hope that by the third time I could be in a position of analysis rather than involved with the movie. You’re right Matt, is the fact that O am a parent, I received my little girl directly to my hands from her mother. That changed my world. I accepted the mission to be a father bringing her to school and read a book to her before sleep. Sound of Freedom woke me up to a danger. The girl in the movie could be my daughter, the desperate father that got crazy searching for them, could be me. The movie connected to us as a present reality where we can’t sleep and relax. Every single kid out there living as slave is our children. Why is this movie successful you ask? Is because deals with the most precious and our only real reason to exist, our children. God’s children are not for sale!

Comment #3 to feed the great algorithm in the sky. I was really impressed with the story telling. This is very much an "older" style of story. Often the movie is an exercise in saying more with less. Some of the most poignant scenes treats the audience as intelligent and capable of coming to the correct conclusion on their own. It leaves the scene hanging where you don't get a big graphic reveal but instead the weight and tension is allowed to just hang for a moment as the audience is allowed to fully realize what is happening on their own.

I understand your point about the closing message not providing more ideas for people to take action, but at this stage, we still have people who are in complete denial over this issue. We still have people who don't know the US border is open, that anyone - ANYONE - can go to the border and claim a kid or twelve right now, etc. As you saw from the insane reviews from the mainstream media, this is still a right versus left issue. People have to get educated and have this put it in their faces before they take action. Some will buy movie tickets, some will send money to organizations, some will start keeping their eyes open, others will go to their school boards and get explicitly sexual books taken out of grammar and middle schools. Then you'll have a few that will go adopt children or participate in sting operations. But we have to get out of denial first. That's what this movie does.

Hey matt, long time subscriber here. While i take no issue with what you said about why the film is effective, I think you missed important context. Operation underground railroad, the non profit this film is based off of, is an extremely sketchy organization, which *does* associate itself with conspiratorial alex jones qanon type people, and severely lacks transparency about how it operates and lies about it has achieved. information that has surfaced about its practices it reveals it is comically unprofessional and reckless. Between deploying untrained operatives, acting on unreliable or straight up made up info, "rescuing" people who are not being trafficked, doing nothing to enact systemic change, filming victims in an attempt to make a reality tv show, and much more, it is *not* a group to be glorified. I appreciate that O.U.R. is not in the list of reliable organizations in the description, but my understanding is the reason this film has seen the backlash it has, has nothing to do with its religious angle, and everything to do with glorifying someone who is clearly doing everything wrong when it comes to fighting the real massive issue of child sex trafficking. Jim Caviezel himself has also spouted qanon nonsense and associated with bigger qanon nuts while promoting the film. I have not seen the film and i believe you that the film itself does not make reference to these conspiracy theories which distract from the real goings on, but the words and actions of the people making the film and who the film is about cannot be ignored.

I hope that in the future you'll consider reviewing other faith-based films - there are so many of them available for praise and for critique ... from religious horror like The Exorcist and the recent Nefarious to oldies like The Song of Bernadette, films about Luther and the Reformation, "life of Christ" movies, etc., etc. You are, above all, an objective and sensitive viewer of movies and it would be wonderful to see your critical skills directed to more faith-based movies! :)

Hi Matt. This is my first time to see your KZfaq channel. I just wanted to let you know that after having watched quite a number of interviews with the actor, Tim, Ballard, and the Director, I was made to understand that the children actors were never given any clue as to what the movie was about. I found that interesting, and I hope that is the case.

It's succeeding because it portrays the reality. The days of the "fantasy" are gone. People are more cautious in choosing fantasy to reality.

I kinda agree with the false summit premise. I think they should have set up the girl not getting rescued a little earlier. Something to build "frustration" instead of an emotional let down. I get what they were going for and it kinda worked but I think that one aspect fell a little short.

Protection for all our children is important to all people who are loving and to their loving parents

SOUND transcends country barriers and time : it addresses the same issues as far as Viet-Nam, Thailand and Cambodia . . . It also transcends religions and faiths, just go talk to the Catholic Priests and Buddhist Monks who go rescue these children across Viet-Nam's borders.

This movie was written using parts from 3 different real operations

Sir the movie was filmed on the US border and in Columbia where it actually happened. And because Jim's wife was apprehensive about Jim going to Columbia 30 former seals went to keep Jim safe, but without the producers knowledge 1/2 of them ended up doing a rescue mission with Tim and 200 children were rescued while the movie was being filmed.

From what I heard, Harrison Ford is struggling with those action scenes. Whereas Jim Caviezel, who is half his age, is seen jogging without running out of breath! Thank God for this film that is exposing the horrors of child trafficking around the world!

Would be interesting to have a follow-up video discussing the issues with Ballard and the organization... The message of the movie was necessary but the messenger really hurts our witness!!

I think it’s successful because people want to support the message. My theatre was packed I was kinda surprised people really will support something they feel needs the support. And how could you not with something like this. Angel studios wanted to raise 2 million dollars for 2 million trafficked kids and now they raised 100 million. What an odd response. This isn't entertainment, Matt...and yet it is entertaining. It wasn't depressing drudgery as it could have been, voyeuristic or seedy, but had soul and depth of character. There were lighthearted breaks like the passion where the audience could breathe. It was inspirational...ONE MAN can make a difference! Ballard is a hero. No, the pacing was not perfect. But the men whocoukd have made it so are too cowardly or complicit to make such a movie.

Jim is a product of Mount Vernon Wa. We are proud of him. He did go to Colunbia to make this movie. They rescued 200 children while making this movie, which made it a success before it ever saw the light of day. This is a chance to fight this with our money. We know what to do. One dollar from everyone who sees this film will make a big difference. We are not stupid. It's a God thing sent to people who are angry. One last thing is that the acting can't carry a movie, nether can the script; but somehow when the two come together, magic happens and the rest will be history.

I haven't seen the movie yet just because of how things lined up with other commitments I had. I'm finally going to see it this week. I have been following Tim Ballard and O.U.R. for years. They are doing God's work. I hope that people will remember what they learn and feel from watching this movie.
