As an astronomy enthusiast, this was a little wrong. There are a lot of factors that affect the darkness of space. The light from distant galaxies like the ones which are millions or billions of light years away gets weak and hence it cannot reach us. Also to take in note that in our night sky there is alot of light pollution (search meaning in google if you don't know) which prevents us from seeing the stars.

There's slightly more to it, the light from all of those infinite stars SHOULD be enough to completely fill the sky, you can look in literally any direction in the sky and eventually find stars. Light, however, stretches little bits as it travels great distances, eventually "red-shifting" out of our visible light range, so those stars do not *appear* visible to us. The night sky is totally awash in infrared light so only the stars nearest to us are within our range of sight.
