I was also forced to start over when I was about 30 years old. Divorced, moved to a new city, started a new job, and went back to school to advance my career into a new position. I am so grateful for and proud of that 30-year-old me. Proud of you too! It’s hard, but worth it!

Thank you for sharing this! And calligraphy, writing, and design! So lovely. I did it many many years ago. Find myself at another crossroads, and have been forced into this place repeatedly over the past 14 years. First from illness, then abusive relationships, and now literally everything gone for my life once again. Holding on for dear life!

I started over at 35. I’m 40 now and it’s the best decision I ever made. You can always start over, 40,50,60. Society is going to have their own ideas on how you should live, but it’s your life.

You’re right. think I started over a couple of times in my 30s.. and when I got 40. Almost 42 now and I’m ok! For now lol . But it’s ok to not be ok. Thinking starting over at 30 is stressful only shows how society tells us how we should live and we believe it. Now I see starting over isn’t bad at all. I embrace it now. Once I see something no longer serves me i will start completely over. I’ll even move, sell everything and start over. It’s life so live it. We don’t have to be in the same career for 20 yrs. We are allowed to switch.

What kind of start over are we talking about? I'm 33 and my career has been extremely disappointing and lackluster. I don't feel like I'm growing at all as a person either. Not sure what it means because going back to college to do something else seems backwards to me...

I just had to start over last year. I got strung out pretty bad on some hard drugs.. Almost died from it & decided that was enough to desist. Facing that fear makes us so much stronger after we conquer it!! Been rebuilding my life for the 3rd time at 32 ever since (my OD was about a month before my 32nd b-day) Went from unemployed addict and Criminal, to full-time manager of a restaurant about 6mo from that. I pay my bills, & take care of my family. I'm glad I got out alive ❤️ and just thankful for the lessons I learned

I started over at 30 too. Divorced, broke, moved to another state, no job, no hope or wish for a new relationship. It was pretty bleak. Now I’m happier than I’ve ever been, running my own business, happily remarried, and planning on having another child in the next year. Life is crazy because when I started over I never thought I would be happy again let alone be so blessed as I am now. Keep your chin up! Things will get easier every day you continue to focus on yourself and move forward.

“I think too late is what someone decides” is the best thing I’ve ever heard. Quite relatable. I used to work for a job and dedicated my life to it(felt like it but it was only a year and a half). Got fired for no reason actually despite meeting all quotas and going even above with overtime. Fast forward a year from that and now I am self employed. As you say, it’s only up from here. Couldn’t agree more.

It’s so funny as a woman in her 40s. Looking at women talking about “starting over” at 30 and 25. When you get into your 40’s you’re gonna realize you didn’t start over. Because you never started yet!!! 30 is just the beginning of life. You think you know everything. You DO feel smarter. And you definitely are smarter than you were in your 20s. But when you hit your 40’s you realize you didn’t know anything in your 30s either. And I’m sure I’ll feel the same way when I hit my 50s about my 40s.😂😂😂

I love this I'm 25, been divorced twice because the men were unfaithful, have two babies one with each of the men, just recently got fired, and it's great ! At first I went through a dark night of the soul for a few months especially after my ex and I split up and I got fired from a remote job. But it feels good letting those things go! And letting that version of myself die off. Like an ego death. It fed my ego a lot being with that recent hot guy and working from home bc of the field I was in. But it didn't feed my spirit ! They were both toxic both the man and the environment he wanted me to live in and his family and also his friends weren't good people and were also cheaters and the job wasn't good for me bc I was sitting all the time and wasn't active as much as I am now. It's wonderful how changes help us grow into better people and better our lives , those are blessings in disguise letting things and people and jobs like that go that aren't good for our mental or emotional well being overall

25 have been depressing to me as well because you are finally an adult, but at the beginning. You feel the pressure, you are afraid. You think now it's the time to make the decisions that will build the rest of your life, but I tell you a secret: it's not. Live as you please. You can change whenever you want. I'm almost 31, at 28 I came back to school (I quit as a girl because of my health issues), and next year I'll get my diploma. Then? Who can say!

The world is your oyster, just try and enjoy every day as best you can and be open to new experiences! ❤

I love this message and reading everyone's comments. Life feels overwhelming and scary sometimes. Feels like society's expectations are so high, it's constantly aging you before your time, it tells you to have it all figured out before x age.. Regret is also a monster of its own. I know I struggle with all of it. I turned 30 last year and felt like I was going to have a panic attack. Like I was so old already, like I should've had it all figured out by now, had x amount of savings and accomplishments, like it was too late for certain things.. but here I am closing in on 31 and I'm realizing I think my 30s will be the best years yet. I'm still young. I still have the ability to take my life wherever I want it o go. I have accomplished a lot. Things haven't always gone to plan and I still have a lot of struggles, but I'm happy with who I am and what I'm doing. I accept the mistakes I've made. Everything in my life has led me to where I am now. It's all a constant battle, but this is what I tell myself and like to believe.

As someone who is pushing 60, trust me, 30 is NOT old. At all. Look at it this way. In a traditional career after college, you’ve only worked about 8 years and would still have 30+ to go before you retired. That is plenty of time to start over!! Don’t let the idea that you’re too old stop you from doing what you really want.

Thank you! I turned 30 last weekend. I want to go back to school to study Engineering (I was taking some of the math pre-reqs for it as electives for my first degree I settled for). I think I was insecure and not confident the first time around. I also think I started to believe some of the sexist things about women in STEM- that we can’t do it, and weren’t capable of it. I think I thought I wasn’t smart enough to persevere (I passed college algebra, statistics, and trigonometry with As or Bs, to my surprise). I was scared for calculus, because the higher you go in intellectual rigor, the less and less sense it makes. I don’t think it is super natural to learn. I feel like I can do it now though, for some reason. I feel like I have to, and I have to act quick to challenge myself in this new way. Truth is, I am so scared about it. I did pretty well for myself post college, and it is such a gamble to throw it all away to start over.

@@sageduff4747 Are you happy with your career in engineering? My dad was an engineer, but only got an associates degree. He said he thinks it (especially aerospace) is a young person’s field, because you eventually lose the motivation to stay on top of emerging technologies, teaching yourself new tech, etc. He said it is also harder and harder to learn new things as you age, you are less of a sponge unlike early career people. He feels that college graduates already come out of school by default on top of the latest technologies and tech stacks, and that they typically will provide new ideas and solutions to problems. He felt that at a certain point, there should be an “out” for “older” and experienced engineers to partner with the new, most technically capable engineers to give them industry knowledge, pitfalls, etc. as some kind of engineering mentor, then let the capable early career engineers do the execution work. My dad is only 61, and since you said you are pushing 60, would you agree with this sentiment? I worry about starting over at 30 and the longevity of it.

Yeeesssss I'm 29 and had to start over 2 years ago. Everything I'd worked for to that point seemed to dissolve through my fingers but I also wasn't happy. I'm still not exactly happy, but I am closer to my goals and a lot further ahead mentally than I was before. I'm still growing and getting better, with life, with myself, with my relationships and career. Starting over is terrifying and I was horrifically depressed at the time feeling like I'd worked for nothing, but sometimes it is refreshing and exciting for the new start. Starting fresh enabled me to remove toxic people from my life, I met my life partner and adopted another cat. I have a larger apartment than before I started anew, I travel more and I am currently in the next phase of change applying to new work in graphic design again (after a 2 year break in a different field because of the burn out and trauma from a prior toxic workplace), I'm focusing on my health more after recently having pneumonia and I have a cute new car (even if it's been stressful being without work for 3 weeks from being in hospital). I am a firm believer in that things happen for a reason, and I believe that this change is more of an opportunity for you to expand on things that bring you joy and a healthier and happier path. 😇

You’ve given me hope, and I’m 26. My father passed away in January, I was supposed to start university in January and I deferred so I could spend time with my dad. But I had to pull out before I even started uni. I don’t feel ready anymore. I want to grovel and idle till I feel comfortable. But society is cruel, I feel old. I feel like I’m starting over too late at 26. After seeing so many comments of people starting over, who are much older than I am, and they’re happy and content, that gives me a sense of peace and relief. This is my story and it will be at my pace. 💜

I'm starting over from nothing at 40, after leaving a 14 year relationship that was abusive. It's scary, yes, but so rewarding. I just bought my first car brand new, paid in full, and didn't need anyone to help me with it. The sense of pride I have in that accomplishment has inspired me to keep pushing forward and to be full of.love, hope, and more dreams than I could accomplish in this life. But I've never been happier sitting with myself and now trusting my own instincts. We all have the power of resilience in us. We can be inspired at any age and there's still so much more to look forward to.

What did you start with? What are you studying now? I turned 30 last weekend. I want to go back to school to study Engineering (I was taking some of the math pre-reqs for it as electives for my first degree I settled for). I think I was insecure and not confident the first time around. I also think I started to believe some of the sexist things about women in STEM- that we can’t do it, and weren’t capable of it. I think I thought I wasn’t smart enough to persevere (I passed college algebra, statistics, and trigonometry with As or Bs, to my surprise). I was scared for calculus, because the higher you go in intellectual rigor, the less and less sense it makes contextually. I don’t think it is super natural to learn, or we weren’t taught it well as kids. I feel like I can do it now though, for some reason. I feel like I have to, and I have to act quick to challenge myself in this new way. Truth is, I am so scared about it. I did pretty well for myself post college, and it is such a gamble to throw it away to start over.

I maybe could get funding for one more year on a different course but after that..? Scholarships? They’re few and far between.. £10k per year of full time study, and money for rent and to survive, where does that come from? Most people I know who work full time live pay-check to pay-check as is, no savings. Who has an extra £100k at 30? ..how do I quit work and go back to uni? (And by funding I mean a student loan)

@@katierasburn9571 you dont seem to understand. I wasnt speaking generally. Obviously you sometimes need to gamble and try to do something else and take that risk. My point is that while her message in the video was perfect, her own situation is wildly different to most people. She didnt get fired from some dead end minimum wage job, she isnt on her last dollar desperate to find another job so she can put food on the table and not get evicted. She is not like the majority of people. She was working at a tech company probably getting overpaid (which is probably why they laid her off). She has a husband who does have a job and probably makes at least as much as she was making. She doesnt come from poverty. She does not have any dependents. She could literally fail upward for the rest of her life and be fine. Her financial security is what is allowing her to try to do something she loves. The majority of people who get laid off from their jobs, dont have the kind of luxury she has of being able to choose to do anything they want, make little to no money along the way and be totally fine. Not to mention she obviously has a monetized YT channel and tiktok.

Girl you just made me cry. We’re the same age and I’m going through a break up with my job. I just realized yesterday how toxic my job was and I was questioning if I was crazy to feel relieved. I really needed to hear this ❤

Tyvm I needed this more than you know 😢 just had a full mental explosive break down and cried to God "please help me I love my family, animals, friends, and myself but I want to be happy actually happy and enjoying life.I want to find my soul purpose and be excited to wake up everyday" I'm 30 and I still don't exactly know what I want to do but I want it to be purposeful and make me truly happy.

Why does this sound like a short film that needs to be? The struggle of what we are told vs what we feel after the weight is lifted. Not from a break up, but from the “norm”. I loved listening to this because I’m 35 about to be 36 at the end of the month and this is where I’m at.

I'm still stuck on the "losing everything I've built" part. I lost my home, my money, my university, my health, hope, structure, all of it. I have no money, degree, job, friends, and live way out in the woods. I'm trying really hard to start out again but I feel truly broken inside and out. My mindset is so skewed to the negative that I even got angry and jealous when you said you had lost everything but live in that beautiful place, while I've lost everything and live in a small structure built from tin and don't even have clean running water anymore. If anybody reads this and has any advice, please do respond because I'm lost here and struggling to stop crying myself to sleep.

I’m really sorry to hear you are experiencing that. :( I know how hard it feels, but your emotions are okay to have with what you have gone through and please don’t beat yourself up over them. I have been what seemed like it was the depths of hell and made it to the other side; it’s not perfect, but progress is all that matters. It will all pass in time. Is there any kind of support you can lean on for help?

If it was possible wish you could start a KZfaq channel to share your journey and I will definitely subscribe to your channel and watch the ads . I mean you can never know we all broken out here but sometimes seeing someone's journey in survival mode encourages you to stop crying over spilt milk. All the best ❤

I love how calm you are. Im also 30 and I'm scared that I'll never find my ikigai. We get so stuck in our responsibilities that it becomes frightening to take a plunge into new waters. But I also relate when you say that you can be someone else. I feel like that every day, like i don't belong where i am. And its still driving me to keep aiming for change, even failure after failire. Its never too late!

I’ve been a SAHM for 15 years for my kids. Trying to get back into the job market at 47 is extremely daunting as I’ve suddenly become ‘worthless’ for “not doing anything” all this while 😞

Providing nurture and educating children is definitely "not anything"! I'm so sad to hear this! Would anyone ever call a teacher with 15 years of experience worthless? 😢❤❤

It is daunting. I'm 48...WE GOT THIS! I am starting with getting certified in areas related to what I want to do. Hopefully added to my 20 year old BA I'll get where I want to be.

I'm at my 30 too. I felt it's late too for those dreams I had but yet something within me tells me as long as I'm alive I am Here to live my dreams. And definitely the one that keeps me from experiencing it and afraid is Me. I made my plans list and I'm ready to start it. 😊 thanks from u too🌿🌻

I've experienced this last year. I resigned with my toxic job, took 3 months break and started over again with my current job. Best decision ever. I am lucky because my current job is really so different from my previous one and I got a very good compensation. 😊❤
