My life simplified during my Camino. There was something special about a simple agenda, eat, walk, eat, walk, get something to drink, walk, eat, sleep, repeat. Was difficult at the beginning to adjust, then after a while into my stride, then, at the end, dread that it was over. Going again in 2024. Buen Camino…

OMG, it makes me so happy to see you guys passing by my hometown, Vigo!! glad the weather wasn't terrible when you were there. I've been living abroad for many years now, but it makes me so nostalgic and proud to see my city on the internet. Love your content, guys, and it's really making me want to do El Camino at some point of my life. Thanks for being so genuine, informative, fun and giving us so much food for thought!

I’m a Korean adoptee. Born in 🙋🏻‍♀️Korea, I go back as often as I can save the money. I stay for a few weeks. And it’s the same thing. It’s spiritual. It’s a time to simplify my life. I see the mountains. I stay in the mountains, I stay in Seoul. I stay mostly in very inexpensive places, but I treat myself for the last three days of my trip. I spend time by myself and I spend time with others. But it always strikes me at how interesting it is that I have begun to love the simplicity of my days while I am there. Life is set aside for a time, and there is a peacefulness about that.

I loved Vigo. I caught the bus there from Baiona due to a rolled ankle but loved the vibe of the bigger city. I think walking the Camino is so different to our normal lives that makes it so exciting and interesting. I dream of living on the Camino but obviously that is not something I can achieve right now. Leaving all the problems behind and just focussing on eating, walking and sleeping was such a relief to me. I can't wait to get back there and experience it all again.

I really appreciate your honesty and offering a different kind of perspective; I think the idea of boredom when on a pilgrimage is fascinating. You are not the only ones to be bored, but it's such a different experience than my own. It makes me think about how we all have such different reasons for doing something like a Camino, plus coming into it with different life experiences. For me, every Camino is absolutely a pilgrimage, and I think that influences how I walk my way. (Also, I love to walk, and strangely I think I'm really good at it?? Ha!) But I've heard other pilgrims- who have returned to walk multiple Camino's- say that they don't actually like walking... but that doesn't mean they don't like the Camino. Okay, ramble over, thanks for continuing to share your journey!

this is a super helpful perspective, thank you for sharing!! we read this awesome article from the NYT about how walking solves many a problems! (interestingly the author also did the Camino :)) we've always loved walking as a form of transportation, but never, until the Camino, appreciated it as something much more important and larger than just that. :D

I did the north part of the camino, from Ovideo and once in Santiago we kept walking until Finesterre. One of the best memories I have eventho I can also vividly remember pain as well. But at the end what I bring home with me is the feeling of pride, the joy of doing it with other people I also love and the great time we spent together. Hours of walking without saying a word as also laughing for the most silly thing. It's just a great experience.

EXCELLENT video and message guys…I walked the Camino Frances in 2021 and it was hands down the greatest travel experience of my life…still have closer friends I made during my 6 week journey than those made at most other times in my life…it’s a lot about rediscovering our missing people connections…..

I had a similar feeling while hiking 283 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail - as one of my fellow hikers said, "My job is to walk" I loved the simplicity of it. Walk, eat, drink, walk eat drink, walk, eat, drink, sleeeeep.

I have a full life with my family. A gorgeous granddaughter. Two loving children with their spouses. I am retired and working on my finances so I can travel next year. I am only missing a special someone, but I have made it this far, and I am healthy. I have been blessed with so much....yet still...I long for something different to experience. I want to travel more.

Thank you... we so enjoy your journeys. I really think the increase is that many pilgrims return... and return....and new pilgrims journey and return and so it goes....😂❤ We were sat in a cafe in Pamplona, and people were chatting about the increase in numbers, many having returned multiple times. Two people more than 10! 😮😮😂

Great video because of your honesty. I think that with the speed that we can do things these days we look to slow things down. Maybe this was something lots of people thought about and realised during the Covid lockdowns?

I think its more popular because the new culture of people are willing to take time off from their busy lives to invest in the experience of the camino (and other popular things, like full-time travel, living in a van, etc), verses our parents and grandparents who had young families to support and missing work meant no money. They spent their lives saving and planning for retirement, where young folks today can mentally set that thought aside to live more present and in the moment, that's just my take.

Great video and interesting perspective. I love watching Camino videos but I've noticed a trend: everyone seems absolutely miserable. In fact, content is disproportionately about what went wrong, what hurts, how tired they are, and how they question their reasons for putting themselves through this hardship (sprinkled in are a few clips of meeting cool people and eating good food). I've always found myself wondering WHY ON EARTH people do the Camino if it's so awful. This video gives me a bit of an answer.

I’m surprised, since you went to Jeju and you like this trail, that you didn’t try the Olle Trail. It seems like it would be something that you would do. It might even be cheaper, I think a lot of the hotels and hostels are cheaper than Europe.

we have heard of the Olle trails! but we didn't have enough time on Jeju unfortunately to walk them. would love to go back and explore them

There are likely many reasons for the increase. I think the ease of learning about the Camino plays a big role. Also, demographics have led to an increase of retirees that have the time.
