Why is the church dividing over this?

The Cumberland Presbyterian church held their General Assembly recently. One issue was over homosexual ministers. Can any church remain united when the members aren't agreed on fundamental issues? We've seen what has happened in the United Methodist church, the Presbyterian church, and others. Will this issue split every church and should it?

Thank you for standing up to this. My wife and I recently exited a local UMC church for its in-your-face cheerleading for this sin after the general conference vote recently. The apostasy is appalling. So long story short, we found out about the GMC and found a local body of GMC recently. It’s a body of about 200 or so. We sent a letter to this local UMC and submitted a polite but firm letter on our position with multiple scriptures to support our position. Hopefully our letter will awaken them. We all must take sin seriously. God sure did with Noah’s flood and destruction of Soddom and Gomorrah.

So glad you got out and found a church standing up for truth. Sin is serious even if many churches think it's old-fashioned. Keep praying for the lost and deceived.

@@biblewalkwithjohn Thank you. And, we should help in anyway we can to lead them to Jesus to help them come out of their sin. If they say “God made me this way” is a lie from satan. They fail to understand God can change that, but they MUST come to Him and confess. There is no homosexual genes or DNA. There is male or female genes and DNA. Jesus DID NOT ordain “homosexual marriage”. Jesus ordained man and woman ONLY in marriage as He said in Matthew. Nothing else. Thank you again Pastor John for your work and God Bless. Btw, there was another couple that stood up as we did and walked away.

I saw a video of speaker at a Pride Month parade where he argued that being homosexual is not a choice. He claimed it was due to 'biological factors at the moment of conception." That of course, could be argued. But as you've said it is a question that seems to inevitably drive people apart. With no easy answers forthcoming.

The Bible says to hand the Christian living in sin over to Satan. Do not even eat with a person who claims to be a Christian but chooses to live in sin.

Satan has always caused confusion through vocabulary, beginning with 'you will not surely die'. Another vocabulary misleading is the word 'church'. It is used to refer to a building, specific religions, religion in general, anyone and anything calling itself Christianity, a general group of people, a specific group of people, and probably more. The only true definition is the one Jesus gave; a definition that refers only to His followers, whoever and wherever they may be. The vast majority of religious organizations, social groups, and people calling themselves Christian are not part of the church to which Jesus referred.

How do you know that you are part of the right sect of christianity? It appears that you are simply committing a No True Scotsman fallacy, unless you have some objective criteria to base your dismissal of "the majority .. people calling themselves christian."

This is why I'm glad I'm a Catholic. We don't have to worry about all this stuff. We just need to go to Mass one hour per week and obey God the rest of the week. We also need to know our Bible and our catechism, so that if we hear our priest say something heretical, we can correct him, and if we hear our pope say something heretical, we can pray for him.

You mean like when your pope recently called homosexual men (word that KZfaq bans)? Why wasn't he immediately removed from his position, like any other leader of a large organization who used bigoted, homophobic language would be? And why did he not actually apologize, just issue a press release saying he was "sorry if anyone was offended?" Did he miss the parts about 'love thy neighbor' and 'judge not?' Or does that not apply to 'those f-----ts?'

Any church can false teachers in it and it is the responsibility of all Christians to guard the faith. Even the Apostle Paul was checked by the Bereans to see if what he taught was in accord with the Scriptures. Please examine the Scriptures to see if what you believe and hear line up with God's holy word. Praying for you.

The bible also tells you that jesus commanded that you abandon your family and serve him. He also explicitly demanded that you sell everything you have and give the money to the poor. When you have obeyed those 2 orders yourself, then you might have some right to tell others how to live. Until then, take the tree out of your own eye before removing the twig from another's.

There are at least 12,000 different christian cults in the world today, from the monolithic Roman Catholic to tiny sects. Every single one of them honestly interprets your bible differently. Why do you think that your particular interpretation is, among those 12,000+, the only right and true interpretation? Your particular version of christianity interprets much of the bible different from the overwhelmng consensus of scholars - why do you know better than those who spend their lives studying? Aren't you at all embarrassed by this level of arrogance that you display?

Are they all wrong? and why did your perfect god produce such a wretched book, so easy to misinterpret? And you never responded to the question about your arrogance. Btw, I have read your bible, in it's entirety. It's mostly bad historical fiction. Maybe you should read some actual scholarship about your bible.

@@terrypolen4241 I have read your bible and the scholarship. Little of substance in the bible is historically accurate, beyond the mere use of place names and government figures. If you are a statistics professor, explain why there are any inaccuracies, since this book is written by a perfect god. The probability of everything being absolutely accurate would be 1. I won't soften my brain, which is the organ of thought, and the organ I use to distinguish between fact and fiction.

@@petercollins7730 It is of little use to try to explain why statistics can be used for something such as determining whether a particular founding father or another one has written a particular message. You have already made your decision. Your mind is clearly closed and your soul is sadly closed too. Please consider the help and hope (koine Greek) that faith will offer to you. I realize that this will simply inflame your mind and anger your soul. But please see beyond our limited vision. May you find peace in Jesus the Christ. 🙏
