The European Union has approved the European Digital Identity, a new centralized service card that enables identification within the union and also allows for a wide range of administrative procedures, information exchange and data sharing with both public and private entities. It includes basic first-level information considered sensitive (such as health cards, bank accounts, professional qualifications...). Its creation stems from the concept of digitally centralizing certain types of procedures under a single entity, which in turn has the authority to certify third parties, both private and public. Despite the good intentions behind the initiative, concerns about its operation and potential misuse cast a shadow over its theoretically innocent implementation. These are the reasons why.
