I think the acrylic crystal adds to the vintage charm of the watch. I am glad they went with plastic crystal as opposed to mineral crystal. The dial is super gorgeous!

I just got one the other week. Swapped the strap for a lighter tan though. It’s lovely! I also got the Marlin with Californian dial to. Both look great

I own the blue one bought it last year and I could’ve sworn I saw the green one in stock and kind of regret not getting it sooner. The green is very stunning. I still love my blue and it has been my very first auto and it holds a special place in my collection. Now that the possibility of it not coming back again makes me want to hold onto it even more.

I did see a blue one on ebay for $259 USD. And a Pre-owned in near mint condition for $235. Just don't think I want to spend that much for a Timex?? 🤔 That green dial you have really looks nice Jody!

Timex may be a "budget" brand in some eyes, but like Citizen and Casio they make quality watches. I would rather wear a Timex Automatic than a Bulova quartz or MVMT or Fashion brands who up charge for branding with really poorly made Chinese watches. Watch lovers do like and respect Timex so you won't get laughed at for wearing one. if you like it buy one.

Timex is a brand that doesn't get enough love from the enthusiast community, they have great watches, and more heritage than many luxury brands.

This is just me, but I cannot take Timex seriously. For me they will always be associated to the cheap, cheerful wilfully unreliable pin-lever watches I used to wear as a kid. In 1970s Italy they were marketed as kids' watches and the stigma has not worn off.

I bought a timex expedition because it was on clearance. It has become one of my very favorite field watches. I honestly love it way more than I thought I would.

@@allenmontrasio8962 Well, when I was a kid, Japanese cars were cheap little things for people who couldn't afford a real car. By the time I was in high school their prices were rivaling that of American cars and they were developing a reputation for being of much higher quality. I still refused to buy one because of that "stigma" that only existed in my head but clearly not in the view of the general public. When in my early 20s I traded my Camaro in for a Toyota MR2 (the original) and it was like getting out of a clunker into a Porsche. Timex is STILL cheap and cheerful but not unreliable. That's ok because that was always their selling point. Rolex, on the other hand, has gone from premium tool watch to expensive hood ornament that has outlived its usefulness. And I've had 2, one of the last Submariners with the hesalite crystal and a GMT Master about a decade later. I was sorry I sold off the Submariner and hated the soul-less thing the GMT Master had become. Timex, on the other hand (though I'm into Seikos and Omegas now) has maintained its original vision.

Probably gets too much love given the tat they knock out 95% of the time. Specs are always terrible for the price, there's always something glaringly wrong with every watch they release.

As a collector or nice watches I can say I have overlooked Timex over and over again without meaning to. I think they have some really lovely looking watches. I would love to see how nice a watch they could make at the top of their game.

I had the original Marlin hand wind when I was a kid seeing the display of Timex next to the clerk at the local drug store. The watch back then was sold for $25.00 -$35.00 USD. Cheers Jody!

I found this watch on Amazon through a third party seller at regular retail. I really like the dial, which is a retro classic and in the right light the satin starburst green 🍏 is quite unusual under that massive acrylic dome.

I have two original 69-70 Marlins I inherited from my dad. I repaired one of them and upgraded the other to a Timex 21-jewel movement. For being over 50 years old they keep good time and look really good. Timex did a good job with this homage collection. I have a hard time with a plus-$200 price tag on a Timex. In my mind, Timex should rebrand these reissues under the Waterbury name and create a higher end brand while leaving the Timex brand to the lower/entry level/quartz/LCD market.

@@RexApplegate The Timex M24 and M72 movements are dimensionally and mechanically identical. I had a bad movement and was able to source an M72 replacement. Timex did issue repair manuals years ago. I would suggest removing the hands with hand levers and replacing them with presses. If you have additional complications (sweep second, day, date) confirm the replacement supports those features. It really is a simple upgrade if you take your time and source the right part. Took me about an hour.

I have a hard time thinking Timex and not thinking quartz too. I know they produce automatic watches but it always feels like a surprise when I see one

I know it's not a great watch, but I got a Marlin with the Snoopy on it. Get some good comments about it when I wear it sometimes. Overpriced, but I still enjoy it.

I like my lower spec Expedition Metals a lot but Timex's higher simply don't warrant their extra price IMHO. Don't get me wrong i want their watches to bet worth it but they always miss the mark that all of the Ali's brands in that price range seem to be able to hit, and the fact that Timex is making their watches in China as well tells me this is a conscious decision.

This model does look nice, especially with the large acrylic crystal. I'm not sure that I like the black framed numerals. It's very characteristic, but they sort of stick out visually without much relation to the other hour markers and no visual structure on the dial to guide the eyes. Still, I like how much identity this design has. The strap really holds this back. I think it clearly demands a more premium strap. Knowing Timex, I'm guessing the refinement of finishing isn't quite that ideal, perhaps some sharp edges and less alluring surfaces.

I got one a couple years back at the initial release mainly because it was advertised to be a 1969 homage design, and that's my birth year. I think I paid about $200 Canadian on a sale. Far from the best piece I own, but it's got nostalgic value.

Unusually it's not the availability being an issue over here in the UK as I've just been on their website, sure it's pretty but it all comes down to price and I would not pay £200 for this, it's way over-priced.

Timex was my first “brand” purchase. A nice looking Marlin with a silver case and gold markers, hands and crown. The lack of specs has meant its wrist time has dropped to almost zero. That and the loudest rotor you will ever see and hear. Sapphire and applied logo, a framed date window and better loom, all at the same price would give it more wrist time and I would probably add a few more to my collection. I feel the same way about the watch you reviewed. Great vid. Love my Saturday morning coffee with JOMW! Merci.

Its the acrylic that gave it such true wonderful vintage feeling. In a couple yaers I promise you a saphire is not something that is conciderd better then acrylic. Acrylic will the premium sellection. Saphire is hell if you get a scratch and it has it constant maintenance remowing fat fingerprints and dust particles

As this very nice watch doesn’t seem to be available anymore. There is a very similar looking but pricier alternative…the new Oris Artelier S, also with a very attractive forest green sunburst dial. And rather tasty it is too 😉

Great job as always. Love the retro font. Just another example that one can have a lot of fun in our hobby w/o spending a lot. Dark blue variant is available in the US. I’m not a green fan so that would be my choice.

The 38mm Orient Bambino is cheaper, classier looking and with an arguably better movement, there is also the new Baltic HMS 003 with the newer Miyota 8315, I don't see what the fuss is all about this one - nice case shape, if a little large but those applied/illegible markers I find horrible.

Good looking timepiece! IMHO, the price seems to be too high for what you get. And then there's the fact that it is "unavailable right now". I mean, if Timex offered this stunning timepiece at $5.00 but if it is not in stock it doesn't do me any good now does it??? Please forgive my "rant" here but, it seems all too often that this "unavailability" thing is happening!! Makes me feel like they are just "jerking my chain" around. Doesn't seem like there are a whole lot of options available...even THOSE are "unavailable right now"!!
