Am I missing the mark here, or does this sound like polite settling? I understand that doing the same things repeatedly will not always garner new results, but accepting something that isn't truly what your heart desires sounds like setting yourself, and your partner, up for heartache.

What you initially described, we call this "hypergamy," and it's definitely a thing. Why it is that the women you're describing can't be happy enough with someone AS good as they are, in terms of career success, is beyond me, but they'll face their day of reckoning at some point. I'm successful (home owner, 6 figure income), but I all ask for is a woman who can stand on her own two feet financially/careerwise. In fact, I'm somewhat leery of extremely successful women, because I've generally found them to be workaholics who don't really have time to be in a deep, loving relationship. And if I gave into the "Happy Wife, Happy Life" addage when I was briefly married, we would have spent every cent we earned on frivolous things, and that would have been a disaster. So I say, "Happy Spouse, Happy House," meaning both spouses have to be happy. I recently stopped dating someone who likes gender roles and claimed she wanted me to be Alpha (which I am), but then she wouldn't contribute anything to the relationship besides showing up and expected me to pay for literally everything we did, but then wanted an equal say in what we did

This video is about true partnership, which is about flexibility and being able to shift balance throughout the life of a relationship. Idk why these comments decided to focus on female submission... actually, yes I do.

Interesting perspective. I’m some super “redpill” masculine guy who is super stubborn and “doesn’t take shit from anyone” and also find it extremely difficult to date the women that I’m into which are my female counterparts. I find the idea of being more submissive and handing over some power to be a hard thing to do

This is such great info. It makes me wonder what my feminine/masculine balance is. Could you provide a link for the test?

It is a disingenuous question from a traditional perspective. All you are doing is asking why women who act like men have a hard time finding successful men. It's only in the last century out of the last ten thousand years of recorded history where women (in the West anyway) who acted like men are labelled "successful". In all history prior they would be considered unsuccessful if they did not have a husband and children by around age 22. So the question answers itself from a traditional definition of success. Good on you girl, you succeeded in acting like a man. So now you can live with your decision. You can't compete with a 20 year old who wants to be a wife.

From what I've seen, they can't turn off the Alpha personality. No guy wants to date a woman with a bigger you-know-what.

Successful men don't work hard to get where they are to then have to defer or be submissive to their wife. That makes absolutely no sense. From a successful man's standpoint he goes out and works hard and competes against other men and then has to compete or submit himself to his wife at home? Why would he want to do that?

Do you really think that successful women want a man to “look up to”. Really?? Maybe they want a man who is their equal or compatible. A man who does not buy into the very gendered, cultured definition of a man. Are you saying it’s impossible for successful men and women to work together?

Why would a successful man want an equal? Two people with type A personalities just don't work. Someone has to be willing to submit to other, there must be someone that makes the final decision in the relationship.

A lot of comments below... but Evan's focus is finding a partnership that works for both people. Male/Female energy - how about just human energy and seasons of life? During my 30's and 40's now, my career has taken off. My partner also has a demanding career. We make time for one another, and understand when other priorities have to take precedence (i.e. kiddos). He appreciates that I can support myself and I don't "need" him, but I want him in my life, with all my heart. The same goes for him. I love that he supports himself and his kids - it allows me to focus on what I need to. I've never wanted to be a stay at home anything, and my partner appreciates me for who I am, as do my kids (counter to what our culture tries to portray for men and women - and outdated industrial era driven maniacal piece of crap that was supposed to be a one size fits all type of prescription for a family - nope). I love what Evan says here about balance and both partners having a say. There's a lot to balancing energies, be sensitive to one another, and respecting each other's time, career, priorities etc.. It's a togetherness exercise, not one over another.
