Wow, what an amazing show, they all are actually, but this was just what I needed to hear right now. I’m a nurse working through post Covid stuff( weight gain, exhaustion, emotional burn out) on top of menopause. I am 59 and was in pretty good shape and have been battling the weight gain. I’m so hard on myself, I still exercise, but am not as lean as I’d like. This show put everything in a new perspective, and I have a new mindset to get there. Thank you!

As someone who had also struggled with anorexia for several years, this episode was probably my favorite one. The vulnerability and authenticity was truly amazing in this episode, thank you guys so much! Edit: it is also super refreshing to hear a man talk so openly about having struggled with anorexia, since that is a rather taboo topic to talk about amongst men.

This is such an important episode. I struggle with this all the time. I know I’m overweight enough that losing fat in a moderate way would increase performance, aesthetics, and longevity but it’s so difficult mentally to get over the hurdle of decreased performance and biofeedback in the short term while being in a deficit. I hate it. Training is less fun. Focus is harder at work. The need to periodize these things really hits home, and looking approaching it this way will help me get over that hurdle.

I've seen impressive results in the past couple months after a long plateau. Now learning about how to phase my training through the different seasons of life... Can't thank you guys enough.

This episode is EXACTLY what I needed to hear! I’m 27 years old and I’ve been playing soccer all my life, but 2 years ago I had a hip injury and had to give it up. I started having to go to the gym and monitor my diet for the first time in my life and have been super frustrated with myself and my body because I’m not able to eat the way I want while still achieving my aesthetic goals. Listening to this really put in perspective how I need to change my goals in order to achieve the body I want while still living the lifestyle I want (drinking wine on the weekends and eating carbs since they have never been a problem before), so thank you so much!

This is something I continue to struggle with. I had a coach that I loved working with in the cutting season, but he didn't seem to listen to my feedback when I finally decided that I wanted to get stronger. I had reached 8% body fat and looked pretty good, but was too skinny and needed more muscle on my frame. He seemed dead set on his way of training which was all aesthetic-based (light weight, supersets, and lots of cardio). I had to stop working with him and have since been following the advice on this show. I'm happy to say that finally (after 3 years of training), I can hit a 225 squat. While I'm not as lean, I am continuing to work on boosting my metabolism and trying not to let the mirror and scale get to my head. I hope to go through another cutting season when it's actually appropriate so that I can diet on higher calories and hopefully have more muscle on my frame next time!

I've been around 27-29% body fat for a while and it's been very difficult to lose any type of fat. Because of this I've focused on performance and relatively healthy eating rather than trying to cut fat. It feels impossible to cut any type of fat so I've learned to avoid it.

I thought stress from working out was a good type of stress? As a woman who has spent the past decade wasting away physically and mentally, due to depression, and now wanting to make changes, is there a point where you can be a little of all 3? Like having at least a bit of muscle, looking a little lean, having more stamina. (Yes, I'm very ignorant as I'm new to this.) Is having a 6 pack extreme ( for men or women?) PS: Absolutely love Jason's vulnerability. It takes a strong person to show such vulnerability and I admire his bluntness and honesty. Great episode, one to save.
@MindPumpShow

We love Jason too! Certainly there is a point, especially if you are not in great health, where just by making the initial changes and getting overall healthier will yield you relative progress in all three areas.

@@MindPumpShow Thank you so much for replying! I try to walk 10,000 steps everyday (usually for 20 minutes at a time.) Great episode. I do have a question though. You guys spoke about periodising for aesthetics, performance and longevity. I've always thought of longevity as something you're doing in the background such as eating right, getting good sleep, maintaining healthy hormone balance etc. I might be missing the point but what does periodising for longevity look like?
@MindPumpShow
@MindPumpShow Жыл бұрын
Most simply put, it could look like placing all the emphasis on those things you mentioned without giving any regard to the other two. The detriments of any of the three really come in at the extreme end of the spectrum. As Jason said, at a certain level, the pursuit of any one of these goals will yield relative progress in the other two as well.
@lukebennett4465
@lukebennett4465 Жыл бұрын
@@MindPumpShow ah I get you so it's less of periodising a certain style of training and more about giving yourself more time to address these other issues by potentially putting training on the back burner so you have more time to actually take care of yourself. Thanks for the reply 👍

I just recently quit smoking and have gained about 10lbs. I am a small person and 10lbs is a lot for me. Just to give you an idea I am 5ft and normally weigh around 110lbs. I have been as low as 98lbs. I started lifting weights to gain muscle and since I quit smoking the weight gain has really messed with my head. I have seriously thought about going back to smoking because of the weight gain. I keep telling myself it will balance out and the weight gain could be good for my weightlifting, it is very hard to keep a positive mindset though. I am a month and a half in so hopefully I can keep going. I no longer have cravings for a cigarette it's my appetite.

Gentlemen what is the longest time period you would ever advise for a cut? What is the shortest? I started fasting for 24 hours a week and love the pump I get training fasted. Just half a scoop of pre-workout and I have such a crazy boost of energy. But is 24 hours not long enough to really get true heqlth benefits from it?

@@Proatcod10 awesome thank you, I actually just started listening to this episode because I just left work. That’s actually kind of funny if they address something in this video that I had a question about. Wonder what the odds of that happening are? Better than the powerball I’m sure 😂

The longevity argument is the overweight argument just on the other side of spectrum. Food for thought, literally.

Loved this episode and the vulnerability, really helped a lot! Definitely took value out of the information about not being able to pursue so many things at one time, coming from a soccer player who wants to bodybuild for a physique comp and lose weight 😂 thanks a bunch! Ps. Your giveaway link doesn’t work for me!
