I don't know whether or not you are considered "successful" as an artist: I'm not an artist, I don't know the market in Australia, etc. When I was younger (much, much younger! We were writing using typewriters...) my writing instructor told me that the greatest obstacle to my success as a writer was that I did not understand that writing (as in almost everything,) is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. It took a while for that to percolate through my hard adolescent head, but it is exciting to know that you already understand this. If you are already a success, this is why. And if you aren't, you will be. Lovely and inspirational video, thank you!

I have been wanting to get back into art (I draw using graphite pencils) and watch your videos for inspiration and motivation to get back. Yet when I open my drawing pad, I quickly close it, afraid of failing and messing up. Thanks for sharing your message. Lately, I just paint-by-number, to release some of my creativity, but now eager to get back into art. Also, art was introduced by my brother when I was little, but he passed away a few years ago. I think perhaps that's one of the reasons why I stopped drawing. He was my muse and art mentor. Hopefully I can get back to it to release both of our creations. R.I.P brother. Love and miss you.

Sorry about your brother. But I think your brother would want you to draw again. My mom would tell me as a young learning 🎨, ,"if you don't use it , you might loose it".draw again. Artist are born, not made. 🇺🇲🇮🇹.

Very different to my stuff . But I believe Artists should be supportive of each others practice. Like the Man was in your studio complex . Well done and wishing you a successful career.

Your voice brings a necessary healing for our soul to never ever get bothered with rushes of life (pressures, anxiety etc.) And it embarks the process so well. I find your work flow exciting and very true, when you said inspirations must find your working. Sometimes we pause our inspirations because we want to question things not done or what we regret. This video is worth it.

Hello Carly, here it's Tuesday 2 April, 4h40 am, I'm watching a report about Australia (it's weird, I found a TV channel that often talks about Australia). It must be 2:45 p.m., at home! They talk about pounamu, colored stones, a little different from the others, in the rivers, which are supposed to keep a spirit. I guess these are traditions of Mahoris???

Hi Carley, from Madrid, Spain (from a fellow artist learning and a New Yorker expat living abroad). It's funny, 'cause I just watched your last video on your new undertaking in Oil painting and talked about Picasso and Dalí (2 of my personal favourite Artists amongs others like Sorolla, Master Sargeant, Michelangelo, etc...) and in this one you are quoting Picasso... But, continuing with Picasso... He made over +50,000 finished art pieces during his life, and how many thousands more did he make but didn't consider them good enough? (Just mind blowing!!!). What I'm trying to say is that I consider failure as something that you allow it to defeat you! Otherwise, you have just learned another way if NOT doing something, because it can be improved!!!! In any case... love your work and passion, and I always learn and get inspired when I see your videos! Cheers from Sunny Spain!!! 😁👍😎

Work in progress.... ✏️✏️✏️Busy🐝😁 looking forward to it's finish. As a matter of fact, your last two are right up my alley, I. Love the sitting, and lying down, more so then standing ups. That's just more my style. Their all beautifully illustrated, but the lying down in a bed, or in the grass. Or in a beautiful field of tall blowing grass..or in the 🌧️ etc but that's just me.That also falls more in the lines of 🎨.it would be a hell of a lot of work, to ✏️ that and very difficult, if anyone could do it though it would be you. Nice to see your beautiful face again, and thanks for introducing, your boss I think, he has extraordinary, 🎨 skills WOW!!!!! unbelievable 🎨 work from what I saw.And yes most artist love the rain 🌧️☔. I'm one of them, it's raining in Las Vegas right now, and I'm painting away.. calming and peaceful. Thanks Carly 🇺🇲🇮🇹🐝✏️🌧️🇦🇺😇. Don't forget don't let the 🎨 in you take away from you. Love and respect to you 🇦🇺✏️🐝🇮🇹🇺🇲🌧️.see you next time bye👋👋.

Carly..... I love your work, and most important of all, your heartfelt desire in doing what you do to the best of your ability. The things you have said are all oh so true. Pablo was absolutely correct about finding you working. I remember years ago being where you are right now. Full of life and full of dreams still yet to come, Never let go of them. Ever. My favorite artist is Michelangelo. He also says what you are saying. "There is no greater harm than that of time wasted. ” - Michelangelo I couldn't agree more about failing, or being afraid of creating work that just doesn't turn out the way you thought it would. Create it anyway. "Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish.” - Michelangelo I would say that it is always important to strive to create what you want to, and what you feel inside. It doesn't matter if you don't achieve your goal. Shoot for your vision that comes from deep inside your soul. Never be afraid to shoot for the unattainable. "The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark. ” - Michelangelo All of the great masters will tell you.... It requires hard work and dedication. "If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn't seem so wonderful at all. ” - Michelangelo I love how you said that you like to create art that can make people feel less lonely. I used to find comfort and inspiration in believing that it was possible to draw something or someone that would literately become alive, even if it was just to me, from the surface of my drawing paper. One who was created and loved me for it. "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free. ” - Michelangelo Every artist has that personal angel that wants to be set free. Work hard and do your best to set him or her free. Whether you set your angel free or not in the end doesn't really matter, because as Michelangelo would say..... "The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection. ” - Michelangelo

Outstanding as usual. I do have a question for you though. Most of your artwork is of a large scale. I was wondering if you have done small pieces? Do you feel that the larger they are, that it allows the drawing to breathe in an aspect or are you more comfortable with the large drawings for another reason? I myself have always shied away from them.

thank you so much :) I am working on some smaller works at the moment but I think I started going really big for the challenge and it also allows you to get a lot more detail in. I really loved how a huge portrait would command its presence in a space too :) your right too, it does allow the drawing to breathe a little more
