mods are a good life support, but I've gotten to the point where I just spawn in the artifacts and spells I wanted to toy with, level myself automatically to 30, but newer, greener games have popped up over the 10+ years, the series I grew up with, the legend of Zelda, has one banger of an open world game.

You either quit early, or play long enough to see yourself become the Ebony Warrior

I still come back to Skyrim, the music the gameplay and most importantly the nostalgia.. I will always love this game.. and the memories it brings...

I’m in the same boat, I was 13 when Skyrim came out, Iv played Skyrim for thousands of hours and have completed everything. Got all the game trophy’s. I still love it and look back with happy memory’s, but I can’t play it anymore without getting bored after an hour. It feels like the magic of playing it has gone.

Honestly, I can relate to that extremely hard! Skyrim is a predictable world that in a sense you can control, you know what is going to happen and there is none of the guess work that comes with other games that haven't been played much. Like you said, it is in many ways another home. It has and will always be a comfort game for me

This is exactly how I feel and think about it. I'm 63 now and I still play and enjoy gaming just like I did when I was very young. It is only that most of the other people of my age can't understand it. I often hear I am wasting my time or worse. The same people that seek psychologists or other people to help them with problems I don't have because I could dive into a virtual realm to help me through rough times. And I don't think this will change even when I'll be twenty years older (or more if my brain/body keeps up to it)

Hello fellow sexagenarian! 64 here and playing since release. currently using the NOLVUS modpack with mixed results. It seems a tad unstable even though my setup is very much capable of handling it. But I have a lot of modded unstable games like Kerbal Space Program, Oxygen Not Included, Fallout 4 and many others, so par for the course! We apparently are superheros as we are (according to the video here) doing the impossible. I've never in the twelve years since release, not once completed the game, always something else to do or see, or a new mod to explore. Never played the older ES games though, I tried Oblivion but couldn't get into it, and before that it was usually simracing and flight simulators. Have a great weekend vikimseruh!!!!😎

A friend of mine visited a little while ago and saw me playing, (He didn’t recognize that it was Skyrim because my game is so heavily modded), and told him when he asked me what game it was. He then said, “oh, my son already beat that game.” I told him, “then he ain’t playing it right. You don’t just beat Skyrim. You unravel it, like the wrapper on a piece of candy.”

I first played Skyrim about the same time Avarti did, only I was 46 then. It is not that we are not children (he is still one by my standard and I am envious of that) anymore it is that after awhile you realize that you can't say what you want, the NPC's rarely more than 4 sentences deep, and it is still mostly DPS contests followed by loot fests when it comes down to it. The boss fight convention is getting tiresome. I was as impressed with Pong when it came out in '72. My immersion with that only lasted an hour or so. 21 years later in '93 Doom blew my socks off and that immersion lasted a few weeks. 18 years after that Skyrim's immersion lasted a couple months about 3x over 11 years. When AGI both writes the next great game and runs the NPCs of it, we may finally have lasting satisfaction. Anyway, Avarti hasn't waited for the holy grail of computer RPGs anywhere near as long as many of us. He was born into the age of decent computer games.

Have you played Ark? In singleplayer there are really not even one NPC. But the lack of real storyline does bore me in it. But if you are a roleplayer there is a lot to imagine within the map. I was also in my 40s when Skyrim came out, and yes, the lack of depth in NPCs since they are in the game is what ruins it.

I play on Xbox360... so still no mod in 2023 😅 I think some adventure still waiting for me

The mods are just insane. You can change the game so much and make it feel completely fresh each time you come back. It's a never-ending game.

The game is obsolete. And if you want to mod it, good luck: you need 3 months for every patch, fix, compatibility patch with other patches... quite frankly, not worth it.

My issue is the whole how shallow it is. When it first came out and I heared you could play as a "dragonborn" I was so hyped. I was thinking it'd be a dnd like "dragonborn" but I was disappointed to learn that the term "dragonborn" was used to mean "dragon hunter" not actual "born of dragons" (doesn't help that in cannon he's a nord). All the "fantasy" games never really give you the option to do evil shit. Only game that comes close is bauldersgate 3 which I love it...BUT i kinda wish there was a real time action game like that

Yeah, I already an adult by the time Skyrim came out. Not all of us have the experience of playing this game when we were more ignorant. I still play it today, and I don't even use combat mods. Maybe the game has aged, but honestly the only newer game I own is Shadow of Mordor, and I haven't played that in quite a few years. Skyrim may not be perfect, but considering what game programmers go through, honestly its better if we don't ask for perfection. Several programmers took their own lives due to the mistreatment they got making Red Dead Redemption 2. Now I just assume any new game lead to real-life tragedies. Point is, maybe my not playing more recent games has helped keep the game from aging as badly. I simply know nothing better. And I'll be honest, I'd rather keep it that way. Besides, we still have the Beyond Skyrim project to look forward to. It'll greatly expand the world, and actually have decent writing. Of course, who knows if we'll ever see it at this rate, given the trouble the team has finding people to work on the stupid thing, and Bethesda trying everything in their power to stop mods from working. I'm shocked the project is even still in development. Mods that old normally don't work anymore. It'll be great if it comes out, and it'll surely give Bethesda a run for their money. It may be in an older engine, but it'll still be higher quality. Besides, es6 is being made with the creation kit again, so honestly it probably won't be THAT big of a leap beyond Skyrim. Fallout 4 was a major disappointment when it came out, and the same damned engine is going to be used for es6. Imagine what THAT'S going to look like when it finally comes out in 5 years? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was a repeat of the release of ET for the atari 2600. Fallout 76 was already a diseaster, and fallout 4 failed to make any real impact. The Beyond Skyrim project is basically going to be what an ES game should be, but Bethesda cannot manage for w/e reason. If we never see any of the Beyond Skyrim projects (it has been a while since we've gotten an update, and they did admit some time ago the projects haven't been going too well), oh well. It is what it is. Besides, plenty of people still play this game despite Beyond Skyrim literally not existing yet. People still play freaking Morrowind, and a year or two ago they even came out with their own 'Beyond Morrowind' project (for lack of a better term). Skyrim is a younger game, so it'll probably last longer than Morrowind does. Point is, morrowind shows that old games can continue to live on, and honestly Skyrim got's far more going for it than Morrowind (other than Morrowind arguably having the better writing).

Skyrim probably would've felt unique back in 2011, but after playing FO3, New Vegas and 4 first, I already felt that I had already experienced that type of RPG so it didn't exactly blow me away (then again I finished Skyrim the first time last year).

This isn’t surprising at all. Half of the content on this channel is devoted to tearing Skyrim apart despite claiming to love the game. He spends so much time hoping on the Internet bandwagon by needlessly nitpicking the game’s flaws instead of enjoying the game’s strengths that I stopped watching him because of how tiresome it got. I’m honestly surprised that it took him this long to admit that he had finally reached this point. It’s hard if not impossible to have fun playing a game when you spent so much time with the mindset of over-analyzing and obsessing over the game’s flaws instead of just taking in the whole experience and the positive elements that the game does very well. Personally I think it’s good that he’s moving on from this game, because by this point, it doesn’t seem like his relationship with Skyrim is entirely healthy. Seriously, for a while he’s talked about the game more like an ex-girlfriend that he once loved and had a bad breakup with rather than a game that he enjoys. @@miguelpadeiro762 It has influenced so many future open world games such as breath of the wild and Elden Ring, the open world is timeless with it great art style and music, the exploration and dynamic feel of how you come across quests and encounters in the game it something very few games even come close to matching, fun quests, lots of variety of armor, weapons, spells, skills, etc, and people love the game so much that they spent over a decade modding it so that they could keep playing. These are some of the reasons why its one of the goats, so successful, and why its been remastered and ported almost as much as RE4 (another one of the goats).

Wish you could wear more than one ring, the shrine system had a bit more depth, and there were actually sky whales up in the atmosphere. 😂

I know what you mean. I played both of them several times and I loved them for the dense atmosphere and history (I love the Dwemer ruins and I was sad there were so few in Skyrim). The funny thing is that I played Nehrim before I played Morrowind and Oblivion because after Gothic Morrowind seemed somehow weird and I didn't like the skill system and alchemy and the way they made the characters talk. Yeah, it's almost a game itself. I don't even particularly care if I play it once it's done.

That's the fun thing about growing up you get to show your families kids fun experiences you had as a kid and rediscover discovery in a senses. The best way to describe it is as you get older you see a tree as just another tree you've seen them before. But it's not to a kid exploring for the first time it forces you to reexamine thing you once took for granted.

One of the huge reasons aside from boredom, is knowing how much time it takes to complete even a small amount of tasks and I have more important stuff like a family so I can't even think of playing it.

It's the same for me with Skyrim and Witcher 3. I simply became too familiar with it. Installing mods didn't help. Oh well..

I didn’t watch this video entirely. But it completely lost its replay-ability a few years ago. Not sure how many hours I’ve put in across steam & xbox but it’s probably my most played game of all time. Anytime I try to get back into it, it’s lost its magic entirely and can’t hold my attention. Even if I go years without playing. The other thing is video games in general seem to have lost me. I don’t enjoy gaming as much as I did when I was younger.

Try the mod “interesting npcs” has some great writing and can extend play time for hours. So much fun and so much to discover, although you will need the wiki for some of the more obscure quests

I don't enjoy it due to the way it's all inserted into the world. I didn't want the creation club content in the first place, but I could have dealt with it far better if they hadn't jammed it in with such little regard for how it could be integrated. The Unofficial Patch devs making the most fallacious arguments to avoid letting people download the pre-anniversary edition version of their mod when it's already common practice to list both pre-AE and AE versions of mods only makes the problem worse. Over all, I feel as though my choice as a consumer was violated, and I'm going to take control back wherever I can, even with my video games.

Would you agree with this Steam review? If I play it (1st time ever) should I remove the Anniversary Upgrade content from the game (if possible)? "Why Bethesda why? Decided to get this bundle on sell was pretty excited, till about level 20~ish it just broke me. Why is none of this content even remotely balanced? The new spells, cheaper and stronger then base. New homes, make every other house obsolete and are often free. The armors, not level gated and often better then their standard conterpart, level one daedric. No elderscrolls is perfectly balanced, but this is ridiculous. All the new quests I have played have been pretty bare bones and outta place. There is some really nice things in this bundle, but so many broken things as well. If you do get this bundle please take a look at the items you decided to download in UESP."

The anniversary edition is, in my opinion, made for people who already know every inch of the game and are looking for new refreshments to justify another playthrough; for those players - like me - the anniversary upgrade is a welcome one. Yes, it breaks the game and removes every last shred of balance it already didn’t have, but it’s new, and a lot of fun. However, If you are a new player, you should experience the game raw. You get a much more authentic and balanced feel for the game, and it actually feels like Skyrim. Fall in love with the game first, get bored with it, leave it, come back to it, fall in love with it again, and repeat that until you got enough hundred hours into it that basically nothing about the game can surprise or excite you anymore, and THEN get the Anniversary Content.

I only got playing Skyrim when it was ported to the Switch, and I don't play it that regularly, but I don't feel like it ran its course, the only way it does that is re-releases, that said, playing it alone hasn't run its course.

I couldn't really get into RDR2. I can't stand being locked into 3rd person view, and the movement doesn't make me feel immersed.

@TribetWilson maybe I could on the PC. I think they focused so much on how realistic things were it broke player immersion when it came to wanting my character to "go here" "do this", to me anyway. The 3rd person view is what killed Witcher for me, though.

The experience the game provides is more than worth it and one day, you’ll have it mastered, and you’ll long for the days that the world, it’s mechanics and creatures felt daunting and “larger” than you. Embrace the learning curve. Read the books. Explore the world without looking online. You won’t regret it :)

​@@David-ix1qiReminds me of the souls series. I miss when everything was so daunting and scary, felt like everything was bigger than me. But at the same time I love to look back and recognize how good I've gotten and how much I know about the games mechanics.

Yeah. It’s a great game but I’ve played over 2k hours there’s nothing in the game I haven’t seen

@@farr4_moon87that’s why most people don’t like Skyrim. Every time I play i couldn’t be less interested in the story and just end up fuckin around with side quests til I get bored and uninstalled it again
