I love the Malaysian culture and missing it everyday I am away from my beautiful country. I live in Australia now and remember the times when I’m invited for tea at my Aussie friends place. Yes we still have fun but you will have “tea” and nothing else😂 But if you’re in Malaysia, the host will feed you a banquet and even “tapau” takeaway for you. This is the wonderful culture we have in Malaysia.

That's very true. When we invite 10 friends to makan, we will cook for 20. Simply because we anticipate that they will come along with 1 or 2 others, be it their friends or siblings. And as always, there will extra food for them to tapau to bring home. That's the beauty of Malaysian that you could hardly find elsewhere. 🥰🥰🥰

Seriously I don't know how ppl can live abroad for such a long period of time. Me, after being away for 3 days, my mind will start thinking where to get roti canai, nasi lemak and teh tarik for breakfast. Roadside stall prefered that is. After one week, not only the mind go bonkers, stomach and body also going insane. Hahaha..

They grew uo with natural herbs in their diet. Their metabolic rate is tuned to response to them. Turneric in almost all food. Ginger. Galanga. Cinnamon. All ate very powerhful antioxidants and helps assist digestion. Spiritually they gain energy by enjoying 'company'. They get joy out of hosting friends. Eating in groups. The 'kenduri' is their gym. Almost everyone left the kenduri with joy. The host is the happiest. The vibes that guests brought to a kenduri are abundant. Imagine tens of thousands of HP.

Idk if we realized it or not but some Malaysians especially Malays are not used to expressing their feelings verbally or through affection/action so the elders usually convey their love to their kids through foods. To show they love and care for you, they cook/prepare delicious food. Thats their language. The more we eat, the more it seems like we appreciate their cooking and efforts. So that might be the reason why once we grow up, we love eating so much. We find love and comforts through foods coz thats how our parents show their affections.

This is not just the Malays, I find that most of the men in all Malaysian cultures have difficulty expressing their emotions... especially the Uncles and Aunties from the earlier generations. (The ones who will still discipline you with their tongues, if not the rotan). They all show their emotion by making sure that you are fed properly and with good food.

When I meet Chinese elders the first question is "Have you eaten" (Chak beh liau). So too with the Malays - 'mari makan" (Come let's eat) Food is essential to the Malaysian culture. Letting the neighbours go hungry is taboo. That's why neighbors are not ashamed to share what ever goodies they had cooked.

😂😂. Sebenarnya orang Malaysia sangat suka memanjakan tetamu.

Some people love to be alone. Do not worry if you need rest, you rest. Take some quality rest. When hangout, if you need to go back early, just tell people politely. I think another reason of your "burnt out" is because of what you eat. Malaysia food indeed are delicious, but many are super oily, super salty or super spicy. As a food vloggers like you guys, if not careful, eat too much of such food, of course will get yourself in a worse situation. Sometimes we still need to go back to eat simple and healthy food to avoid such heavy food that could cause us digestion problem hence causing us easy to feel tired. Healthy digestion means healthy life. Also, maybe the "canon" guy that took you to Penang then back to KL in one day is a 20 something years old young guy, and you need to get the fact that you guys are already 30 something, the metabolism isn't as good as when you are in your 10's, 20's time.

Very good blog today. I think Malaysians have high HP because 1) we are acclimatised to the weather,that’s why we can play sports in 35C when people from cooler climates struggle 2) we have grown up with so many mixed cultures and races,it becomes part of our character 3) Malaysians are open with their feelings and are tolerant of others 4)we love life and we live to eat and we have so much variety 5) Malaysians are generally very relax n have a tidak apa and boleh attitude Give it time, relax,enjoy and soon you will have 1000 HP. 👍👏👏

In a group of 4-5 Malaysian, being close to each other can help the whole group energise each other to keep 'HP' power level high to run throughout the day. That's is why when we hang out, personal space in between is reduced to nearly zero. 🤣 One of the factor in this HP matter is family. It's all started in a family. It is not just a single unit of family, husband, wife and children. Not just that. But also granddads, grandmas of both side, plus uncles aunties of both side, cousins, nieces, nephews. Plus family of in laws, family of cousins of twice removed. All these connection, interaction thoughtout the year, and repeated circle over and over years after years. These probably contribute to higher HP. You see, we Malaysian not only passionate about variety of food, but also the size of the family or you can call it almost a tribe. The bigger, the merrier, the better. So much energy shared, hence HP skyrocketing. 😂
@mr3111
@mr3111 Жыл бұрын
Its interesting to hear about your HP theory but as you were explaining it i realized something maybe its actually coming from introversion and extraversion personality . It is said that extroverts gain energy from social situations and introverts are drained by social situations. I'm introverted so i avoid too many human interactions otherwise i am exhausted. Because you have many fans you tend to interact with highly extroverted people who gain or drain a lot of energy from you (nobody's fault). I think you are very careful in interacting with the locals this anxiety can be very draining. Its just my theory anyways from what i learned. Maybe reducing social anxiety might help you preserve more energy or perhaps taking many breaks from social interaction might help. I always enjoy your videos eating or not.👍😄
@jonmath4182

On the other hand, introvert(s) can also drain away the energies of an extrovert... Putting it short, remember the lyric from the classic song: 🎵 _But don't worry, be happy_ _'Cause when you worry your face will frown_ _And that will bring everybody down_ _So don't worry, be happy_ 🎶 But ofc not all introverts have black clouds hanging over them. Many introverts can have the sweetest smiles on their faces, but that's just about all that you can get out of them, they are just like in the silent movies, but minus the actions too!

hi ichang n jimmy. i am an orang asli (indigenous) of malaysia from ulu selangor. 😊 me and my husband love watching your videos so much. i can relate to both of you so much in this video 😂 i think it is more about the personality of the person. most Malaysians are extroverted while Japanese are mostly introverted persons. as an introvert person, i also dont have high HP 😂 i cant socialize with people too much or else i got drained out easily. for me eating out/ jalan2 the whole day is really exhausting. like jimmy said, if i use all my energy jalan2 all day, i will end up getting fever too the next day. 😂😂😂 but sometime i cant resist this, because most of my malaysians friends are extroverted. so i just go with the flow, try to adapt with them, at the same time try to limit my movement to reduce using much energy 😂 as a social introvert, i love hanging out with friends and family members but i just do it once a week. That's my limit 😂 next time, i hope you may try orang asli /indigenous culture. most org asli live far in the forest and we have a unique and distinct culture and way of life. 😊😊😊 wish you all the best ❤ がんばってください !!!

I've never really commented before but this is an interesting topic. I think one reason why lots of Malaysians are considered "high HP" is because we were born into a culture that forces us to mix with different ethnicities from young. When we mix with people of different background from us, we become curious, ask questions, get to know each other's culture and we are still learning it everyday. The opportunity to mix with people from different backgrounds make us curious and energetic in talking to people. Another reason is that Malaysia's history is filled with colonization. It was not too long ago that we had to gather Malaysians for all kinds of culture and ethnicity to do protests, gathering and discussions to negotiate with our colonizers to give us freedom. Even during the negotiation of independence, Malaysia was already multi-cultural, so each ethnicity also have to voice out their opinions to form a cohesive society. That is why Malaysians are naturally quite talkative that don't mind yelling their opinions out loud. As for food, I think it is because Malaysia wasn't in control of its destiny during colonization times. Our resources were exploited and people lived in poor conditions. After that, we slowly moved to a middle class society and hence, the older generation still has scars of how food is hard to come by. So, whenever there's food, Malaysians view it as a celebration and a time of comfort. This culture has been passed down from the older generation to the young and from then on Malaysians use food to bond with each other and celebrate our history.

Our type of relaxation is totally different from them...our relaxation time is when we get-together with friends and family, share stories, laughing while shoving varieties of food...but to them its mentally exhausting..that affect their physical being...its good that they share with us their feeling...so that we know when to draw the line...both of them should speak out more about their feeling and let us know upfront so we will not 'over- exert' ourselves...

I appreciate you both honest reviews and thoughts ❤ i always find that Japanese people tend to have higher or deeper thoughts on matters that mean the most to them..and i really like that. Not many of us would go through and taking time in these thought process. I have watched this reality tv show called Terrace House (Japan) and i really enjoyed the way they communicate and discuss over things - friendship, relationship, career, hobbies, etc. Eventhough your burnout problem seems minor to us Malaysian and we would tell or give you advises on what to do to overcome them, we certainly do not put the most weight or thought on it. We think its as easy as go out and eat n relax but you both have came up with talking openly about it and weighing seriously about it which i always find deeper conversations like this helpful but less done in my society. I hope i make sense 😅 keep having these deeper discussions and conversations w us bcz some of us really need to understand or want to be involved but obviously we cannot 😅 that being said, i also enjoy having time out from being out and about when things get too busy in my daily life. Just enjoy the calmness of my own space and take some time until im ready to get back hanging out w friends and back to the normal lifestyle. I hope you have success in your future undertaking and just do as how you both would do to enjoy your life. We would definitely learn a tjing or two from both of you. I always thought Malaysians are a more extraverted society and Japanese are more introverted (which explains why they are a bit more reserved than most people around the world). Having said that, just do you Jimmy & iChang. It's two different energy/personality altogether when we look at it objectively. It's totally ok to not be able to keep up with most "outgoing" / energetic people around you - it doesn't make you any less weaker or not good enough. You're just programmed differently that's all. I mean..even for me, most times I get drained trying to keep up with the "go go go" lifestyle in KL. What more for both of you who only moved here since February. Take it easy, ok? In time, you'll find the balance of how much you feel worthy of exerting your energy towards the things and people you decide to spend your time with. We are all humans, and doing content is a lot more intense and hard work that we think. Just enjoy your time being here, mojo will come when you're more at peace mentally and spiritually. We can wait. The internet world can wait while you recuperate. Now that you've come to this point, facing your maximum limit for HP..mind over matter too. Ichang & Jimmy, what you are experiencing is called malaysian hospitality. When we go out with our guest we make sure they are well taken care of. We treat them like family. That means we make sure they are well fed. We will take them to all the best makan places. After all we have the best food in the world 😂. And the power that you are referring to is called love!

You both are so nice to describe it as HP. Never thought that way 🤣The best way to come together is indeed with food. We invite friends over or go to a makan place together. 'Eat, laugh, talk' is exactly what brings us all together as friends, family, and even business deals start from a nice meal. Hyeaaaaaaaa! is so true 🤣eat alot and laugh loud loud is the best way to feel happy hahaha

I like that both of you have showed us how to enjoy simple things in life as a couple, to rejuvenate and recharge together by taking strolls, eat healthy or excerise. Don't really need to travel in order to relax. Not many couples do that together. Maybe is the hectic life in cities. The only way could be a desired holiday and spend money on travel. Both of you are so down-to-earth and real. Love watching your videos ❤❤❤

I agree with some of the comments about extrovert and introvert. Japanese in general are also extremely polite and careful about others' feelings, hence it takes a lot of mental energy in public, especially when you are filming or when fans come up to you. I think what you did is very good, to take rest and relax in a more private manner, to recharge the energy. Another thing you can do is to travel in a neighboring country that you maybe less famous.

you don't have to eat everything yourself. you can just take videos of your friends eating and share with others. also enjoy other things in life other than just eating. eating and food is just part of malaysian culture but not everything. also you can do mountain hiking, national parks, beaches, help us discover more areas not many locals been to...so your content more than just eating and finding food maybe. of course you can find nice food in your journey is a bonus.

My foreign friends said the digestive system of Malaysians are very good because they talked and laughed loudly when dining and never stopped eating. Yes, we are high in HP and not forgetting also high in BP (blood pressure)😂😂😂 There is no barrier over here, we can addressed anyone freely in our multi racial /cultural country of our lovely Malaysia. In Japan, the terms of barrier is there because of “senpai/kohai” (respect of Senior / Junior) are used on a daily basis both at school and in the workplace.

Halfway watching through your video, I think it may also be a case of you're introverted. Introverts can socialise from time to time, but will need to retreat to a quiet space to rejuvenate and "heal" as you said. Because socialising really depletes one's energy and to recover from it requires some alone time that's quiet and doing activities that relaxes one's self (whatever that may be). I'm an introvert myself. In your case, that probably doesn't revolve around food and people. Quiet and peace is what I think you need, from time to time. Anyway, just my two cents. May not be accurate, but I enjoyed this video as I do all your videos. Take your time and do things in your own pace, IChang and Jimmy. ❤

I would like to express my view about personal space especially for the malay muslim. We have little "barrier " may be a result of the congregational prayers that is still very strongly practised whereby during prayers we have to pray shoulder to shoulder. Although not everyone goes to the mosque everyday, at least during Ramadhan many still go for the tarawih prayers and usually we have a potluck makan afterwards...and mingle with friends and neighbours and catch-up with the goings-on...the next Ramadhan we see same crowd again but with additions to their family and whatnot.. more conversations and food and makan...😂 recharge HP 1000...😅 By the way I love how you try to make sense of the malaysian culture. Hope you won't get too exhausted trying... Stay safe and healthy..❤

Hello Ichang and Jimmy.... Waaaa.... I'm glad that you show us this video... Now it is time to know more about Malaysian culture... 😁😁😁 New dragonball... As a malaysian, i think most of us are living in this culture since we were kids... There is a word that we call it "silaturrahim" ... back then when we were kids... We acknowledge this "silaturrahim" mostly during an important event, like kenduri, hari raya, jamuan ( makan2) , during family day, we all had this kind of vibe... Helping each other, talking to each other .. eating together...know each other... It is a bonding time.... so time by time, it is in our blood already... We did the same, including to our guest, or friends, and neighbours ... that is why, most of malaysian are can break the ice freely... Of course there are people that are introvert... Not talking.. but it become more extrovert when you get to know them.. so this "Silaturrahim" means ( to make a bond) .. it is from the arab word.. "silah"- the rope, "Rahim" - the womb .. or in other simple word, to make bond with love... Just how a mother love her child .. that is how we practice.. we talk, we eat together, we know more each other... And we take care of each other, then spread the love... 💕😁 Just imaging, if u are not talking to anybody, doing things individually... Walking around alone.. then you may not feel the love... And more likely we will feel lonely... As u know, we malaysian are living in diversity .. we had all kind of celebrations, occasions... that when we gathered , this is the time for "silaturrahim" . And its never get boring... 💕🌸😁 By the way, there will be hari raya aidiladha in 2 days... So if you had a time, do explore it... You will see, what I mean with this "Silaturrahim".. 😁😁😁 happy hari raya Ichang and Jimmy... Take care both of you... 💕😊

konnichiwa! ichang and jimmy, a very good insightful video! we bumped into you before in Jaya Grocer. As a Malaysian who lived abroad for more than 10 years, I can relate to your experiences being here in Malaysia. Also as creatives, we need downtime to do absolutely doing nothing (of course house chores would always be there). This all summer weather has been draining us, and even though my husband and I were born and raised in Malaysia our lifestyle and habits, our perceptions, interest, wavelength are not the same anymore. Maybe it has changed back then before we left South East Asia. We certainly do not enjoy eating out or going from mall to malls/places the whole day. Unless it's for work, we would rather have downtime at home and just chill/read/watch. it's certainly not a healthy lifestyle to be drowning in eating, thus why the obesity cases here has been rising (I'm pointing out, some people might get offended). Take your time, creating contents require a lot of creativity. You do not need to be like other average Malaysians or fitting in, just be yourselves. I think one of the good thing being a content creator is the way you view your current adopted country. People who never left their comfort zones might not always see the things you'd see, and that's ok. They would be more appreciative of the new things you'd discover, perhaps they themselves never knew because they have been ingrained in their set lifestyle. Speaking for myself, I'm ok not being with the Malaysian lifestyle, even though I hold the same passport. Right now I'm just enjoying things that I haven't seen before, discovering new things, new people in my birth country before we leave again. otsukaresama deshita!

Very interesting sharing you have here. To share my experience, me and my wife have had a few close friends under MM2H from Japan over the last 15 yeears or so. Some of them have gone back to Japan during or after the pandemic. When we used to take them out to eat or introduce them to our Malaysia cuisine, I too get the comments that they are fool, can't eat more. etc while we put more and more food on their plate :) Makan is our past time and we do get overly energtic in sharing. During those times, I can sort of sense that they some times get uneasy or a bit annoyed by us doing that. Your sharing bring back my memories of these events. Your sharing have also help me understand that, your culture maybe a bit more reserved, individualistic and need personal space. I can understand how you would get burned out with our enthusiasim for food and for sharing good food. It feels bad to not being able to finish food and wastage when it is also hard that you can really eat more.....and Malaysian's around keep wanting to share more..... It is tiring and hard to say NO and that can build stress. So it is ok to say NO to us when enough is enough :) No need to get HP 1000 haha

This is one nice content. As for me, I did not watch you only for foodie content. I love to see you sharing all aspect regarding your experience. Sharing this kind of topic is really interesting to hear. We did not seek for each of our weaknesses, but we learn how to strengthen our own value, me as Malaysian and you as yourself. Perviously, I do want to suggest you to do collaboration with other content creator, to prevent creativity block. But you share that you have introvert value (more or less), it will strain your energy more than it should be. I don't know the actual logic behind extrovert-introvert thing, but I learn that extrovert recharge their energy when they see people to do activity, while introvert recharge their energy away from human interaction. If you did not have any idea to do, please share something like this. It make me smile hearing this kind of topic.

I can give a good example between japanese barrier and malaysian barrier. I brought my son to swim at the condo pool. At the same time there was a japanese man and his son. After some time his son and my son started playing, and his son spoke good english. In malaysia when the children start playing its a signal for the parents to start "small talk". Its the friendly and polite thing to do. So I say good morning, have you eaten, wah your sons english so good lah. The japanese father ignored me the whole time haha. So I was in malaysian mode but the japanese guy was still in tokyo subway mode, but in malaysia.

I thin you guys are by default introverts. I am Malaysian an actually feel the same when I'm with many other Malaysians. Malaysians in general tend to be more extroverted, or at least, passionate about food. But like you guys said, not everyone is the same and I know I belong to the minority, but don't worry, quite many Malaysians are like you guys, too. It could also be that they are usually not extroverted but since you guys are not locals, their hospitality level and passion goes up with you guys. I have seen this many times before, it seems to be quite normal. 😅

iChang and Jimmy, Malaysians are not a complex human. We does not think too much about where the food go, how it process, and so on LOL. We think, eat food when hungry, feeling full and stop. Same goes to conversation with strangers. We love to communicate. Communication give us energy to go thru hefty day. It is hard for Malaysian, die alone (like in Japan recently) as we are like a bees. Move and absorb the changes around us quickly. Like a hive members. Got one words to represent this. Masuk kandang kambing mengembek, masuk kandang kerbau menguak. Literally means, when we are in a new environment, we must adapt it. The sooner the better. How to gain HP like Malaysian. Be happy, try to be happy, must be happy. When you are happy, everything will be at ease. Thats how you got abundance of energy. Why not to be happy? As our life too short for sadness!
