What does the historical record show about the significance of Jesus without relying on the New Testament? We discuss the latest book, PERSON OF INTEREST, in which Detective J. Warner Wallace reveals how Jesus has transformed art, music, history, science, and other disciplines. And we consider the biggest objections to the historical Jesus.

I'm a full-on atheist who's got a solid 0.00001% chance of being converted, but I just wanna say I'm happy that YOU'RE one of the big Christian apologists. You have a very kind/approachable demeanour. I always find it weird when I give out advice on how to convert atheists, but if I had to give advice, I'd tell someone to model after you. Despite what your live chat looks like, I feel sorta welcomed by you and I get to hear your POVs, which is interesting to me.

One Solitary Life He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another obscure village where he worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never went to college. He never visited a big city. He never travelled more than two hundred miles from the place where he was born. He did none of the things usually associated with greatness. He had no credentials but himself. He was only thirty three when his friends ran away. One of them denied him. He was turned over to his enemies and went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While dying, his executioners gambled for the only property he had on earth, his clothing. When he was dead, he was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Nineteen centuries have come and gone, and today he is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind's progress. All the armies that have ever marched All the navies that have ever sailed All the parliaments that have ever sat All the kings that ever reigned put together Have not affected the life of mankind on earth As powerfully as that one solitary life.

Twelve Ordinary Men- John Macarthur : Among those who stayed with Christ were the Twelve, whom He had personally selected and appointed to represent Him. They were twelve perfectly ordinary, unexceptionable men. But Christ's strategy for advancing His kingdom hinged on those twelve men rather than on the clamouring multitudes. He chose to work through the instrumentality of those few fallible individuals rather than advance His agenda through mob force, military might, personal popularity, or a public relations campaign. From a human perspective, the future of the church and long-term success of the gospel depended entirely on the faithfulness of that handful of disciples. There was no plan B if they failed. ... The Kingdom advances "Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit' says the Lord of Hosts" (Zechariah 4:6) There's another striking reality in this. When Jesus chose the Twelve to be his official representatives - preachers of the gospel who would carry both His message and His authority - he didn't choose a single rabbi. He didn't choose a scribe. He didn't choose a Pharisee. He didn't choose a Saducee. He didn't choose a priest. Not one of the men He chose came from the religious establishment. The choosing of the twelve apostles was a judgement against institutionalized Judaism. It was a renunciation of those men and their organizations, which had become totally corrupt. That is why the Lord didn't choose one recognized religious leader. He chose instead men who were not theologically trained - fishermen, a tax collector, and other common men.

We are in a dark time so you have to be the moon that reflects the Light. The biggest problem is the loud mouths who express harsh feelings towards the ones who are going a different route. Jesus showed love to sinners. We need to accept them, love them but we are not to accept their behavior as ok but also look to the ones He commands us to speak to. The brethren who are going astray. Gay, transgender, adulterer, they have to be convicted of their sins and not condemned by us because condemnation is from the enemy.

The interview was amazing and I enjoyed Warner Wallace’s insights and how he connects the knowledge that he has acquired in his career with his faith. However, I felt troubled when he answered the last question at 59:50 (by the way, an AMAZING question). He says that there is a chance that he could be wrong about the Gospel and and that it could be possible that Jesus did not raise from the dead. The Gospel is the one thing that we as Christians don’t (shouldn’t) have even a hint of doubt about! Jesus Christ is not just true, He is the prerequisite of reality itself to exist! John 1 verse 3 tells us that: “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made”. There it is right there. We can have doubts about anything BUT the Gospel. If reality is objective, there must be one immovable and undeniable Truth that was and is and will be true no matter what. And then Wallace proceeds to say “is it possible I’m wrong (about Jesus, as I understood it)? Of course, give me a break”. Well, as Christians, we may have no breaks when it comes to our faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus warned us to be either hot or cold, but not lukewarm. Rev 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth”. I acknowledge that believers go through seasons of weakened faith. We do live in a fallen world and must endure through spiritual warfare. But it seems to me that a believer’s default belief, being filled with the Holy Spirit, is that the Gospel is true and there may be no doubt about it.

When I got to the part about the 6 areas of culture, I was blown away. I was a missionary with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) for 25 years, which is one of the top 2 largest missionary organizations in the world, the other being Campus Crusades for Christ. I worked with hospital ships in Africa and the South Pacific. Both organizations believe the best way to Disciple the Nations is to bring Christ into every aspect of a nations culture, by transforming or discipling all of the main areas that influence a culture the most. They identified 7 specific areas of focus and they are often referred to as the 7 Mind Molders or the 7 Spheres of Influence. They include the 6 in J’s list. They are: 1-Family 2-Economics (including Science, Technology & Business) 3-Government 4-Religion 5-Education 6-Communications/Media 7-Celebration (including Arts, Entertainment & Sports) Everything YWAM does around the world is designed around bring Jesus into these 7 Spheres of each culture we go to.

After retiring, I got my dream job teaching in a Christian Academy in San Salvador and was even able to teach history. On p 411 of Abeka's History of the World in Christian Perspective, 1995, Pensacola Christian College, we find this quote: "(Queen) Victoria spoke for the nation in her reply to a visiting African chief who asked her the secret of England's greatness. The queen did not take him to the Tower of London to see the glittering crown jewels or to hear the brilliant orators who debated in Parliament. Instead, she presented the chief with a Bible, and said, 'Here is the secret of England's greatness.'"

I'm really interested in what he has to say about the Messianic prophecies. His button analogy is quite thought-provoking. It is so sad that apologists pay little attention to discussing the prophecies that point to Jesus as expressed in the NT. Honestly, its scary to me. Dr. Michael Brown has a series, but its a ton of books and one references the other. You have to have his entire library it seems just to track down a few facts. I'm not sure why he has not produced a succint book on the best and some of the hardest prophecies. Anyway, I'll be getting the book. Now will I have time to complete it???? That's the question!

@38:38 JWW encouraged young Christians to get involved in scientific research. That's a very good advice. I second it. If they like it, young students should pursue careers in biology research, because there's so much to learn and discover in biology, that could lead to new medicines and treatments, specially in the fascinating area of control systems (e.g. bioelectric networks, morphogenetic codes and regulatory genomics/epigenomics that are being deciphered using deep learning techniques). Biology is the new queen of science, while Math and Physics are the efficient advisors of the new queen. Physics seems to experience a partial stagnation and much speculation, while exciting biology discoveries are piling up at an accelerated pace, making it very difficult to grasp even a very specialized portion of them. It's really becoming unbelievably mind-boggling. Biology research is discovering wonderful complex functionally specified information systems, which empirically we know that can be created only by intelligent minds. Unlike Physics, there is no much room for speculation in Biology, because technological advance is increasingly making it possible to observe biological processes in vivo. In Biology the more we know, more is there for us to learn. As the outstanding questions get answered, many new ones are raised. But it's what we know, not the unknown, that increasingly points to the indescribable mind of Logos. We don't worship fictional "gods of gaps", but the God of the whole show, as professor Lennox has stated so clearly. When we realize that our amazing Creator has graciously provided the Way for us to someday be in His glorious presence without the universal time constraints, we are awestruck. Praise Adonai Eloheinu!

15:37 - my hypothesis on why there is shared expectations, just as there is a shared flood story dealing w/ sin/ corruption between every ancient civilization I have looked into that had left a record of some sort, is because after the flood, until the Tower of Babbel, we were together and sharing these historical truths & revealed truths. God had chosen the Israelites to be the protectors of the Historical truths to pass on, as well as how to worship God, His plans to bring us back into communion w/ Him after the fall, etc. At the Tower of Babel, we didn’t listen to God’s commandment to go forth and multiply over the land, but huddled together, creating gods of men, so God confused our tongues (an interesting side note is that we are rapidly losing languages today,), and forced us to go out. Each w/ those who shared the same language, but maintaining the traditions and stories. These traditions and stories became more and more distorted from the original, overtime, only holding portions of the truth. The Israelites were chosen to be the protectors of the full, uncorrupted account (hence, the Chosen people). When Jesus came in the flesh, born into a virgin, fulfilling all the promises, He instituted His new Church, to be the protectors of the full revelations of God and how we are to properly worship Him and how we are to act and behave, w/ His new Bishop & Priest class.

Another explanation of many of the fulfilled 'prophecies' is that Jesus was filling to the full (fulfilling) David's story and Israel's story. Therefore, it wasn't always the author saying, 'look! Jesus fulfilled this prediction!' But rather 'look! Jesus identified with Israel/David/etc. in this way!'

I agree some prophesies are hard to see in isolation. I think some prophesy requires looking at something big picture, For example Psalms book 1 Ps 1-41 poetically Genesis, starts with a man who is a tree of life and ends with a betrayed man like Joseph meant to save the world. Like the promise to Abraham to inherit the world as Roman's puts it, the Son of God will inherit the nations in Ps 2 in the first prayer of Psalms given by God to His Son. The world is fallen Ps 11-14 but who can climb the mountain of God Ps 15, and24? Who but the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep, the king in Ps 22 23 24 allowing 'the meek to inherit the earth' in Ps 25 in the son and in the spirit of the Abrahamic promise to bless the nations in his seed and as part of the blessings of David that if he had a righteous son God would be His father.. The meek inherit the earth in Ps 37 (in the son) and how? Ps 35 the trial of Jesus Ps 41 the last supper. The church founded, paid for by the suffering of christ and forgiveness follows in Ps 30 31 32. In the big picture prophesy points to Jesus but if sometimes hard to see the forest for the trees. The mural in big picture points to Jesus, the seed of Abraham, the son of David, the son of God, the son of Man. I think a lot of prophesy is a strong argumen in the harmony of scripture as it sings in ensemble.

Part of the reason the Old Testament prophecies of Jesus Christ are unimpressive is because you're reading the corrupted masoretic text in which the Rabbis of the 2nd century removed &/or altered critical passages to obscure Jesus' fulfillment of prophecy. The New Testament writers overwhelmingly quoted the (unaltered) Septuagint.
@wowitsfrostygames155
@wowitsfrostygames155 11 ай бұрын
I also heard some of their material was rewritten. The plurality of God in the Old Testament is extremely obvious, but some Rabbis to my understanding rewrote parts to remove those pluralities. A bit shameful if you ask me.

In Jewish tradition there are 4 ways of interpreting the text of Tanakh. The literal meaning and the allegorical meaning and the hinted at meaning and the hidden meaning. The NT writers didn’t always use the literal interpretation face value contextual meaning of the verses they quoted from Tanakh. Often they interpreted them using the allegorical meaning or the hidden meaning or the hinted at meaning of the verses they quoted in light of the events of the life of Jesus and what he said and did as the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning Mashiach Ben Yosef in his first advent and the yet to be fulfilled prophecies he will fulfill concerning Mashiach Ben David in his second advent. Often they quoted from the Greek LXX Septuagint translation instead of the literal Hebrew original like when Matthew’s gospel quotes Isaiah 7:14 from the LXX where the literal Hebrew HaAlmah meaning the young maiden that may or may not be a virgin is translated in Greek as He Parthena meaning the virgin so perhaps that just makes the hinted at meaning more clear. Matthew also quotes Hosea 11:1 where it’s talking about HaShem loving Israel when he was a lad and calling his son from Egypt. The literal context speaks of the Exodus but the hidden meaning is a prophecy about Jesus leaving Egypt as a lad. Jesus as Mashiach represents Israel as the king of Israel and is the servant of HaShem in Isaiah 53 even though Isaiah quotes HaShem calling Israel his servant earlier in the servant songs because as Mashiach and King of Israel Jesus represents Israel and is the ultimate Jew because he alone was perfectly Torah observant

What we know about Jesus, is the life of Christ according to witnesses and words written from Prophets, Seers and Revelators. What many of us fail to realise is the oerspective from those writers and their evidences. However if we consider when Jesus stated when we dig a hole and fall into that hole we may never get out, is out of the question because Jesus never said that? Similarly when Jesus scolded the man from Samaria and stated that Samaritans are often heathens, Jesus never stated that either. So what I attempt to bring to people’s minds is simple and even children should understand it. Jesus never wrote stories about Himself nor did He make any claims of criticism to any faiths, people, or specific groups such as the Romans etc. No it is only the writers that defined Samaritans, Romans and Jews, Christ only chastised those that were sinners among the people, not once did He speak to a nation, kindred or tongue, He was not the writer, He was the minister. Hence any purported Christian, or true believer of Christ, would not chastise, criticise, rebuke or any other against a Church or any believers but merely direct to the truth. For that same reason, we too cannot state that Evangelicals, Apologists, Catholics, Protestant of LDS etc are wrong except they preach against God and His kingdom! For too long we have those among us, professing to be Christians but often go against what Christ ministered! Evidences of God and Jesus Christ have been built upon from the beginning and exist to the end. To rule out scriptures, Prophets, Seers and Revelators, then truth would cease. However due to an Apostasy taking place after the death of Christ, it was necessary for God to restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ through The Book of Mormon. Now we can witness how the True Church of Christ has been restored as in The Church zig Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. Know them by their fruits!

The actual fuse consists of "immigration, assimilation, and "syncretism." From the time of Alexander the Great's conquests in the East, Eastern peoples migrated into the Mediterranean Basin and the Greek cities. Greek cities, in the centuries leading up to the birth of Christianity, began to swell with immigrants. Assimilation into Western culture was the next. And, finally came syncretism where religions began to blend and where religions and Greek philosophical ideas and concepts also blended. Christianity was not the case of plagiarizing non-Jewish ideas and concepts or even non-Jewish religions. It was the case, however, of "updating" and "reworking" non-Jewish elements into the Christian religion and scriptures. A good contemporary example is West Side Story. The musical does not plagiarize Romeo and Juliet, but is rather an updated version for contemporary audiences. This updating of familiar religious and philosophical ideas and tropes was an acceptable practice in the ancient world, particularly as religions often served as stage-gates to a new culture. Religions also served as stage-gates to new jobs, where particular jobs were associated with a particular deity. Many of these jobs are actually mentioned in the Christian Scriptures. The term "logos" was not a mere particle of speech, but was a Greek philosophical concept, attributed to Plato, that was clothed-out as a rabbi from Nazareth. And the only way a Greek concept can be divine is through sheer mythological invention. This so called "cold case" guy followed the wrong clues, which happens in law enforcement all the time. The fuse of history is immigration, assimilation and syncretism. Those are the fuse that gave rise, not only to Christianity, but many other religions as well. However, it was Christianity that brought Europe into the Dark Ages, and 2,000 years of religious-political theocracy, which we will not repeat here in America.
