what they should of done with Kai was tell his side of the story and point of view base off what made him change. Because people don’t change over night oh no, it takes time. I think what made Kai change was when he saw oogway very hurt or injured kai told himself that he will never let someone close to him get hurt ever again but the only way for that to happen is if he gained power. Little did he know taking the short cut is not the path to go By him taking the innocence chi. Once oogway confronted him about this and even tried to stop him Kai felt betrayed because he only did it to protect his close friend. I think kai was a good person he just had the wrong intentions.

Common misconception. Kai didn't change, Oogway did. Oogway started his story with “I was a young ambitious warrior" he wasn't fighting the forces of evil, he was expanding HIS territory. Kai, in the same vein was known by monikers such as “the beast of vengance" and “maker of widows" also evil. Hence why he mastered chi: his natural environment was the battlefield. Then, Kai saved Oogway and got to the panda village. Here, Oogway learned about compassion and generosity. Changing his ways, fought Kai out of gratitude to the pandas. So, Oogway changed his morality and fought his former friend Aka. Betrayal.

@@SagesRainI think young and ambitious are big clues, since young could allude to Oogway being naive, and ambitious in the fact they are still searching for what to do. Oogway working and loving a guy that was known for revenge, a slayer, a supreme warlord of China, and master of pain (supposedly to cause it to others) seems to indicate that.
@Kobukseon

This... this right here is what Kai was driven by. Oogway's past as an ambitious warrior and part of a conquering army, who learned compassion through the Pandas sharing their life with him (who had been taking life away at this point.) Oogway built a legacy of peace and his beginnings as a warrior seeking glory and causing destruction could be an interesting avenue for the story and fitting for Kai (who remained that warrior) and Po (who wanted to be a teacher that everyone could believe in) as everyone isn't perfect and makes mistakes, but always have the potential for great things regardless of where they came from.

@@austinhuber8440 I know that. But I don’t take the blame on him either. My point is Tai Lung was not ready for the title yet because of the self-centered pride and arrogance he showed in his dedication and commitment to accept the title, not to mention Oogway had different plans for who the chosen hero should be which draws a connection to the Chi learning techniques the pandas taught him presented in the third movie. Still, that does not mean Tai Lung cannot become a future dragon master someday, it was just not his turn yet. It was only because he pushed his luck too far that things went wrong, and I think the real problem was not really Master Shifu promising his adopted son a future destiny that was never fulfilled but because Oogway rejected him as a student without an explanation as he did not like what he saw and perhaps Tai Lung could have had a better chance to reach his goals if Oogway just instructed Shifu to help guide and mentor him so he could learn the path to finding inner peace and self-acceptance, the true secrets to becoming Dragon Warrior while Oogway looked for a different student to become the temporary dragon master like Po. It bothers me that no one even gave him a second chance in KFP4. At least I would like to see the fourth one end with Po bringing Tai Lung home with Master Shifu instead of returning him back to the Spirit realm so that Tai Lung can find peace again with Shifu and gain his trust back and apologize to Po for their past rivalry. Mind you I do not really expect for him to become the next dragon warrior after Po because he still owes many services to the Valley for his past crimes so the people don’t remember him as a fugitive anymore allowing for his jail sentence to be legally cancelled. Choosing him can wait for the last movies. So in the meantime, Po can train a different student like Zhen the fox or even select Tigress to be the next temporary Dragon warrior before Tai Lung’s turn comes. As someone who sympathies him I disagree with anyone who says it was not his destiny. I just think he needs to take the time to listen to Po’s advice about self discovery and growth to achieve your goals which is the true hidden message of the first movie and not coveted destiny. If Po can learn it, anyone can, if they are open to embrace that, so why not him? Once he has proven himself worthy to Po and gained the valley’s trust, I think it will be time to select him as the next dragon master which does not sound like a bad idea to me if he reaches his goals fair and square. I don’t see how choosing him will undo the first movie once the time is right as I have a different perspective on him. Another thought I had was Tai Lung training his nephew Peng to become the next dragon master after him, someone to pass on his name and legacy to. Or he just takes Peng under his wing to take his place if Tai Lung is already too old for title. Who knows? Maybe age does not matter in the Valley of Peace. Anyways, it’s just an opinion and thanks for sharing yours. I just wanted to point something out to you that I noticed and why I think Tai Lung’s destiny should not be determined by others. Unless you have a different excuse for that like his age or the fact that he’s already a spirit or even that he just won’t listen to Po’s advice or something like that. Could also be that he pushed his luck too far beyond the point of forgiveness, which hurts to think of that. I just wish the overarching plot of the fourth movie would be to give him a second chance by finding peace again with his father and a change of heart with the guaranteed promise that he will reach his goal someday, a goal of his choice. Now I hope to see if Zhen the fox will train his nephew Peng to become her next successor so that Tai Lung will at least be at peace knowing that he has someone to pass his name and legacy onto. I just not satisfied with his redemption arc in the fourth movie. Fortunately all that changed for me after watching a rewrite video on KFP4 in which he and Po team up along with Shifu to stop the chameleon, and I was satisfied knowing he got his wish at last in the end. But anyways, thank you for sharing your thoughts and perspective on him. To each their own. No one’s opinion is superior.

The biggest thing for me is that Kai didn't have any moments of real vulnerability. Both Tai Lung and Shen had touching, humanizing moments where we saw the pain that motivated them. Kai did tell Shifu when the latter made it clear he wouldn’t let Kai destroy Oogway’s memory, Kai said, “Why not? He destroyed mine!” I really do wish that instead of him already defeating Oogway, Kai finds a different way to either return to the mortal world to kill Po and take his chi which would give him the strength to destroy his rival, or he returns to the mortal world specifically to destroy Po to end everything that Oogway had created, and give us a ferocity and rage that we hadn’t seen in even Tai Lung. Kai has been trapped in a realm beyond his own for 500 years, that would piss me off to no end, knowing that my entire life and purpose was taken away. Instead of a bunch of jokes, they should’ve made him dead serious, almost humorless (and use the other characters’ humor to bounce off of his cold and ruthless personality if they really wanted to add humor at his expense). It just kinda wasted a great design, a great power, and a great VA in JK Simmons, especially after watching Invincible and knowing how terrifying he is as Omni man.

One thing that I have noticed about Kai is that he is very much the anti Oogway in more ways than one. It comes down to all aspects really. Oogway is a gentle and kind monk while Kai is a cruel war general. Oogway’s “weapon” of choice is a simple stick symbolizing his control while Kai’s weapon is the chain blades which show his chaotic and uncontrollable nature. Oogway is a turtle who is not imposing and in his older age while Kai is a gigantic and imposing ox in the prime of his youth. But most of all Oogway sought to give his knowledge and his chi to others and passing on his legacy while Kai sought to take power and the chi of others in any way he could and he paid the price.

I like Kai, but I think the easy and best fix for his character is to say he wanted to steal chi, in order to have the power to protect his friend oogway from ever being hurt again. Than oogway "betrayed" him, and he wants to destroy oogway and his legacy. The Jade palace, shifu, Po, they are all his legacy, so this gives him a clear motivation with an interesting backstory. The bricks were there, just wished they would come together.

Honestly I think a more interesting route was that, maybe Oogway could've been bad at some point but then realized the wrongs of his ways one way or another and became who he was as seen in the first movie? This could've led into the scariness of change, even for the better as the plot lines were introduced. Po has to make the choice to start a new chapter in his life by learning how to teach, the plotline for Po's dads can even stay largely unchanged. And Kai, being too scared of taking the risk and effort of change as he constantly takes the easiest, risk free ways out of situations could be a perfect contrast to all these characters. I hope that made sense, just a little ramble.

I think that kai falls into a no mans land between a sympathetic villain and a “pure evil” villain. I would almost more prefer them to go all out with him and essentially give him no motivation. “I like power, so I take it” his soul would be essentially empty with no motivation other than domination. This can be contrasted with Po who needs to fill his soul with his friends and new found family. With Kai being almost half way between those two villain archetypes he does fall last of the 3.

I always considered Kai more as a final test for Po to push past his insecurities about him feeling unworthy of being the Dragon Warrior and to realize his full potential. Tai lung and Shian already did the emotional and grounded villain work as well as a connection to Po. Kai wasn't meant to have any other role other than a force of nature that was just evil. Sure, it would've made a lot more sense if Kai turned out to be someone who was corrupted because he did not properly master his Chi and there was a fear that Po could turn out like him.

One would argue that he’s also a way of showing a figure of no identity. The third film is about Po mastering himself, while Kai just masters everyone else’s chi except for his own. He is forgotten after 500 years, and the minute he returns, he begins hunting for any other Kung Fu master to gain more chi. He becomes no more than just power, chi, and greed. While Po learns to master his own chi, Kai masters other’s chi, but not his own.

More of identity. We learn by the end of the movie that mastering chi is through finding a meaning of what you mean to others. Kai doesn’t understand this. Kai was simply greedy, no parental issues like the others which we were shown. That's what makes him boring. But you're wrong about Kai not being a foil for the chi-theme of the film. Oogway explicitly says "the more you take the less you have." The thing about chi is that giving it necessitates compassion, taking it necessities greed. And the greed of Kai is foiled by Mr ping eventually getting compassionate enough to realize that having Po's biological Dad in Po's life doesn't mean "less for" him, "it means more for Po." And Po's chi being "too much" for Kai is meant to symbolize Po's compassion being enough to overwhelm the strength of Kai's greed. As for Shen, no he didn't have past issues, he was simply an irresponsible, vain, cowardly arsehole who couldn't accept that his parents were right to abhor his obvious and immense greed and cruelty. Po was his foil in the sense that he was courageous, appreciated the love his adopted Dad had for him, made peace with his past and cared for his friends.

Kai was at least intimidating and gave you a reason to fear him, the bro literally took out Master Oogway and every kung fu master in the film, why, because in his eyes, his brother in arms “betrayed” him and barely anyone knows who he is, so, the guy decided to destroy Oogway’s memory and everything he created for revenge, kind of weak, but still pretty solid. The Chameleon, her backstory doesn’t make sense in the kung fu panda world, not to mention, we don’t see the things her and her army are capable of doing, they don’t do anything that makes them intimidating, the only thing the Chameleon has is shapeshifting, okay, and what can she do with it besides impersonate others? I think it would have been interesting to put a wrinkle in Kai and Oogway's relationship, perhaps Kai's love for his brother in arms was always weighed down by something that he could never name. Then, seeing Oogway the art of giving Chi long before him could he realise he had always felt lesser than Oogway and, through this new understanding of himself, develop the means of taking chi to put himself on equal footing with his brother. You could even extend this to the present day, he feels that even in death and defeat Oogway has trumped him in something so he goes about destroying his legacy in the dragon warrior to figure out what it is. The answer could then be tied to Po's revelation at the end to weave the whole story together thematically.

I think it was explained in external material that Kai started stealing Chi in a effort to gain strength in order to protect Oogway from ever getting hurt like that again, but it drove him mad. Which I wish had been handled in movie Kai is by far the weakest written of the villains, still fun, but there's something fundamentally missing with him. But I would argue that defeating oogway was not Kai's ultimate goal, as the rest of the movie was Kai trying to erase Oogway's legacy, which we only see really played with twice, first when he reforms in the mortal world and again at the Jade Palace. I wish they would've played with that more. I also wish Kai would've interacted with Po more, maybe even tried to bring him over to his side, because that would've been the biggest insult to Oogways memory, corrupt the dragon warrior that Oogway dedicated his entire life to waiting for. Obviously this plan wouldn't work but it could've been really interesting, it also would've given Kai room to really reflect on the fact his brother erased him from history basically, no one knew who he was at all, he, who was the reason Oogway survived his injuries, who was the direct reason Oogway was exposed to Chi at all, and no one knew his name. We get a hint of his pain in that Jade Palace scene but it really doesn't hit like the scenes in previous movies. I would've loved a scene where he's looking through scrolls and relics and there's just nothing about him at all.

Normally I disagree with quite a bit of critiques on Kai but the one with Kai bringing Po over to his side is honestly a great point. @@kyleb7974 I thought I responded to this whoops. Yeah, like I have nothing against Kai, he is a fun villain, I like him. It's just when you smack him against the other 2 villains there's just something missing, like he's not a boring villain he's just duller. Now that i think about it Kai could have been a reverse Shin, Shin killed Po's village, which clearly wasn't the secret panda village that Kai and Oogay visited 500 years ago, and Shin only had distain for the pandas due to the prophecy, so it would've been interesting to see Kai have a scene where he fights Po really early and just looks disappointed in him and says "did they not teach you anything?" Also in the first movie Tai Lung was "what Po could've been", in the Second Shin was a reflection of trauma, so it wouldve been interesting if Kai was "what his teacher could've been" a dark reflection of Oogway and Shifu, and probably tempt Po with the fact that Oogway never told Po anything about the Pandas. That could've been a really compelling scene, instead of just Kai looking through the scrolls in the Jade Palace, it's Kai and Po, and they realize that not only did Oogway not tell anyone about the pandas, but that they aren't even in the scrolls, Po would realize that the Pandas aren't mentioned, but their teachings are since everything Oogway teaches stems from it, and Kai would realize he's not in the scrolls at all, and they could come to too different answers, Po would probably say Oogway was trying to protect them, while Kai would only feel more betrayed, and THIS leads him to destroy the Palace.

i think on a more thematic scale po and kai do reflect one another, but on a more personal/ grounded scale not really. so the reflection comes from by the idea of holding onto things for selfish gain. kai uses his knowledge of chi to forcefully take away other's chi to hold more power; while doing so, he hold's that to himself and never really shares it with anyone else. and on the other side you have po who uses his knowledge, that he has gain from the past 2 films, and shares it with others. also there is a correlation to kai and po being "leaders". kai is only a "leader" by using his mind controlled minions; they don't have any autonomy for themselves. which he goes against the themes about the film, being everyone has a unique characteristic about themselves. for po there is mutual respect to the people that he's leading; which in turns makes them want to fight along side with po out of their own free will. at the beginning master oogway says to kai, "the more you take the less you have". which is foreshadowing his downfall, because through out the movie he never once wanted to share what he had with others. so at the end of the film, he gets all of the knowledge of chi but at what cost: his life. literally the entire story is about sharing is caring. because sharing your knowledge is more important than holding onto every scrap for yourself. being that the third movie is about spirituality, it's a less personal/ grounded fight with kai but more about grander ideas. because, spirituality is the opposite of being grounded. Edit: i would also like to say when kai felt betrayed, by someone he thought as family, he never did reconcile with oogway: even in the spirit realm. which parallels how po felt, of being betrayed by his biological father. but the one key difference between the two, is that po and his biological dad did have a reconciliation: unlike kai and oogway. like in kai's intro, oogway was confused as to why would he want to continue to fight. the reason why is because, kai is still holding onto that grudge he has. plus, when po felt betrayed by his biological dad, he didn't want to destroy everything that lee has built: unlike kai. Edit part 2: also the answer to oogway's analyses of kai's fatal flaw, you know the more you take the less you have, the answer comes from mr. ping saying of, "it's not less for me it's more for po". meaning it's more important that you let go of things, like knowledge, power, control, or items, for others to have their own experience.

Sometimes it's really hard for me to believe how no one understands Kai in the story, and I think I know why. Nobody understands Kai because they don't want to try to understand him, and because nobody follows what was said in the movie. If you remember that green scroll that described Oogway and Kai's past when they were young men, if you don't remember what was said I will remind you, Oogway said that he was an "ambitious young warrior leading a great army and and fighting by my side was Kai", which would mean that the two of them were leaders together, at least that's how it was shown, and why would the two of them lead the army you ask, well remember Oogway did not say that they worked for a ruler and led the army into battle, but they imply that they were in charge because they were leading the army and that they were caught in an ambush, which would make it clear that Oogway and Kai were conquerors, and that China managed to set up an ambush and killed the whole army, but Kai got away with a wounded Oogway, Kai carried him around for days looking for help, and probably couldn't rest because troops were probably sent to find them and kill them when they didn't find the bodies of the army leaders among the corpses. When Kai ran into a hidden Panda village they managed to save his best friend and ally, and now Kai is thinking they lost their army, they have to make a new one, and it wouldn't be bad to learn this skill that healed Oogway, during the learning Oogway probably started to change his outlook on life seeing that the world is not something he can take from others, Oogway was mostly going more and more in the direction of being a Monk we know him to be when we first see him in the story, but Kai saw that the power used to heal could be taken away and used as reinforcements, and the possibilities he hasn't gotten to try yet, he thought that with this power it was possible to rebuild the army they had, and possibly surpass the number of soldiers they had before and to start again to conquer as they did before, but Oogway didn't want to continue that life and he maybe tried to convert Kai to his side and abandon the conquest, but Kai wouldn't listen to just throw away the power he had gained, and how much more he could gain if he continued, so they decided to fight and Oogway used the move that killed Kai and left him in the spirit realm. When Kai managed to gather enough power to leave the spirit realm he wanted to return to his original plan which was to be a conqueror, and probably conquer china first, but first he needed to get rid of all threats to that plan, which directed him to attack all the kung fu masters, and in the end he is directed to destroy the pandas that started this all. People can't connect with Kai because he has almost nothing that we can from our ordinary lives and experiences relate to and empathize with, and if more of his past was shown with Oogway, people would possibly understand him more, though Oogway wrote the story and who knows how much he left out, some probably important things that might have damaged his image, because Oogway was no longer the person he once was, and he did not want future generations to remember him like that.

Ngl I knew Kai wanted to take the pandas for power to take revenge on the army that ambushed them, but I actually never caught the allegory for the fact his literal Jade zombies are supposed to be armies. That’s actually genius considering that’s probably actually what he was trying to do. Also to back up your points, they definitely were conquerors because Kai introduced himself to the villagers as “Supreme Warlord of all China” Ngl there is some human connection with Kai and that is betrayal, and inner demons. He symbolizes what happens when someone feels dragged down by another, and now all he wants to do is see that person and anything he stands for burn. Think of it as an anarchist but to a person. Thus the “Beast of Vengeance” by letting his worst demons get to him

Half of that is your interpretation and it's speculation. You are trying to give depth to something that wasn't touched in the movie because the creators didn't think it was important enough. Kai wasn't built as a villain. The beginning of the movie took so much away. That was basically the best fight of the movie
@PetarSon
@PetarSon 6 ай бұрын
@@yot330 First of all the movies don't have much time to focus on all the characters equally. Secondly, villains in movies, especially conquerors, should not be likable to the viewer because you should not root for them or take their side. Thirdly, my description of events followed a very simple course of events that are very possible to happen, with the information we received and with our knowledge of this world. I did not write anything that is impossible, but that there is a high level of possibility that it happened, maybe not in the same course and detail, but with what we know that's how it most likely happened. Oogway says that he and Kai led an army, that they fought side by side and were ambushed, with this we can imagine that they lost their army in that ambush, or that their own army betrayed them but the first seems more possible to me. Oogway said that they led an army and that he was an ambitious young warrior and nothing else, and that could mean that he led his own army along with his friend Kai, or that he was an ambitious warrior in someone else's army, but since he didn't mention anyone it's more possible that it's their own army. And what would two ambitious young warriors do with their own army if they weren't serving an emperor or some other lord ruler? that's right, they would most likely be conquerors because why would they even have their own army if they are not in the service of a ruler, therefore an ambush by China itself, or a ruler from the land that they were conquering seems more possible than anything else. In that ambush it was said that Oogway was very badly wounded and that Kai had been carrying him around for days looking for help, and usually if the corpses of the army leaders were not found to confirm the victory, then they would in more cases send a search for them around the country, which would be the reason for Kai not to stop until they are somewhere safe. When Oogway was healed Kai like any great army leader and conqueror started thinking how to get back into the game when they lost everything, and the CHI learning the pandas showed them opened a lot of doors to solve mortal problems, and Kai realized that "what can be given can also be taken" which would be why Kai wants to become more powerful, and go back to the original plan that he and Oogway had, but Oogway changed and started adopting the lifestyle of those who healed him, and that's where partnership and friendship fell apart as the two began to live drastically different lives, which led to their fight. It makes sense that when Kai came back he wanted to get rid of all the possible threats to him, and as we see in the movie he eliminated all the martial arts masters in China, and we know that from that scene where Shifu gets all those arrows about what Kai is doing, so Kai will at the end get rid of the pandas that started his path of CHI, and he would most likely after that go back to conquering because what else would he do, if he was a conqueror in the past, and now after eliminating all threats and having all the power what else would he do if not conquering as in his youth. Don't forget that Oogway made sure that people forget about Kai, because that would connect him with Kai and his past life which he didn't want to describe in detail, or tell anyone else, Kai was his friend he fought side by side with, Oogway didn't have to erase knowledge of him or ever mention him to anyone, until Kai himself showed up to introduce himself to everyone, and yes I know it's been 500 years, but there are equally old stories of great warriors throughout history that are still remembered, and why does no one know anything about this great warrior who fought side by side with the young Oogway, as if no one is allowed to know this past, and details as with other warriors of history of there world.

@@PetarSon it's not that deep🤣. I appreciate the effort you put into this story but this is way too complicated. Kai saw the potential of chi and wanted the power. So he saw how the pandas used it and reversed the mechanisms. So instead of giving he started taking. Oogway explained that he figured that out by himself. The army was not even shown as it had no relevance. They had all the time they wanted to build Kai but they decided to base the entire villain arc on his ability to turn others into his chi.

I think Kai's ambition is what made him fall to the darkness in first place. The power to take Chi away from people is seductive, and just as he saw darkness in Tai Lung, Oogway recognized what harm Kai could do with that power and that's why he cast Kai out. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say he's the worst villain, but to say Kai is completely hollow is just unappreciative of the efforts the trilogy's creators put into it.

when I watched the movie, I thought Kai's feeling of betrayal was compelling, even if he was clearly in the wrong from the beginning. His best friend defeated him after he had risked his own life to save him, making him bitter and stripped of his pride. I also thought Kai was a real threat. right off the bat he beats the strongest warrior we have seen, then we see the jade warriors who are basically invincible. and then, as he amasses more power, stealing the chi of mantis and crane, i was filled with even more dread. he basically steamrolls everyone throughout the movie, forcing Po to hide in the mountains. He seemed like an unstoppable force that Po could only run away from, making his victory in the end so much more impactful. I agree that he may not have been as good as the previous two villains, but Kai is still a very, very good villain

My take would change his backstory slightly where instead of Oogway and Kai discovered the panda village and were amazed about the healing powers of Chi. However, when Oogway and Kai were fighting some time later, I would change the character injured to someone close to Kai, perhaps if he had a son that was critically wounded. Oogway and Kai rushed back to the village and Kai pleads with the pandas to use their chi, but the chi isn't enough to save his son. While Oogway acknowledges the impermanence of the situation, Kai enters a state of distress. As time passes, Kai secretly begins to steal Chi in a desperate attempt to bring his son back and prevent future disasters, but each time he steals chi, his mind becomes more corrupted and damaged. When he tried to bring his son back with the stolen chi, he formed a jade "Zombie" that broke apart, devastating Kai. Kai believed that if he had enough chi, he could reverse this. You could then make Oogway realise what has happened and forced to banish him to the spirit realm. Also tying the pandas would directly connect to Po's father. Essentially, Kai cannot accept change. He wants to accumulate chi that he feels has been improperly used by the pandas and feels that Oogway betrayed him for not believing in his quest to bring back his son, but by being corrupted by negative chi, develops a superiority complex that went against his own morals hundreds of years ago. This would be shown as an animated backstory at the start of the film and perhaps have Kai encounter Oogway at the very end of the film instead of the beginning. The rest of the film could be generally similar, but the situation between Po and Kai is a lot more serious, as it gives Kai flashbacks. Eventually, Po redeems Kai by channeling his own chi along with the rest of the pandas and Kai meets Oogway in the spirit realm. Perhaps then he could accept change, just like how Po accepted his mother's death.

I could write an essay on why he's my favourite. Ultimately part 3 is about legacy, and Kais contrast with Po in that regard is much stronger than tai lungs contrast with Po imo. He keeps oogway close to his heart because he betrayed him and destroyed his legacy. Po keeps oogway close to his heart because he wants to maintain oogways legacy. Plus he's just badass.

I am hoping that the 4th film will add some more clarity to Kai, that the reason why he turned down this obsessive path of power was due to depressing thoughts of weakness since he probably beat himself up for not being able to protect Oogway from his life threatening injuries in the first place. Never being able to realize that he was powerful all along to be able to carry his brother through so much in spite of his own health just so he could find someone who could save Oogway. Another thing I believe is worth more clarity is the acknowledgement of Oogway's imperfections. Don't get me wrong Oogway is not an evil person, but as wise as he always was, he always came off as someone who talked at people like Kai and Tai Lung rather than acknowledge their feelings and TRYING to help them through it. Not to mention Oogway's scroll about his brother Kai could count as an unreliable narrator, since from what was shown, Oogway initiated the fight and was intent on taking Kai down without letting his brother explain or even trying to talk his brother out of it.

I think the main reason Kai never scared me as a villain or felt intimidating was that the main plot was that Kai manipulated different masters and legends that we barely knew about so we cant sympathise, leading to us only really knowing about them thanks to Po's geek knowledge in Kung Fu Panda. We hadnt had enough information to identify why Kai's weapon is so threating. We simply had too little information.

For me Kai is my favorite villain of the trilogy. But that’s because I relate the most to him. I have guys who I call my brothers. We are extremely close. I could ask these guys to get into a bar brawl for me and they would do it no questions asked. We make time to hang, we’ve been to important life events, etc. an since I don’t have much empathy or compassion for people outside my family if these guys betrayed me that pain would be incompressible for me. So when Kai calls Oogway his brother and I think of them going into battle side by side and then Oogway stops him, who is a warlord as it seems Oogway was as well, from taking power I’m sure that shock hit Kai in such a way that he only had rage. Sure by the time of the movies he’s had hundreds of years to process that but at first he was prolly a mess. I mean he still uses the blades from the two blade he used that Oogway broke in half and never used Oogways chi to make a jade warrior, maybe it was still painful. That’s my ramble tho hope is at least helped someone get a better idea of where Kai might be comin from lol
