Levothyroxine, a generic medication is also known as Synthroid, which is a brand name, or Tirosint or by other names depending on who the manufacturer is. It’s the top medication prescribed for thyroid problems in the United States. And 9 out of 10 times that’s the medication that most insurance companies prefer to cover. Today, I'm going to cover why levothyroxine sucks, why it is not suitable for everyone and how it could exacerbate your Hashimoto’s or hypothyroidism symptoms. Watch this video to learn more.

I thought I was Dying. I couldn't walk without holding on to a wall or something. I didn't have the energy to move in bed. I had had emotional turmoil. I got tested. Was told the meds would take two weeks to Work. Twenty four hours later I felt so energetic. My doctor was amazed. Now ten years later. I'm tired.y hair is shedding. I'm on the Lowest dose. I can't tolerate a bigger dose. I wish I'd been told that it could of been possibly fixed with dietary changes.

They NEVER look at the root cause. I have been battling with hashimotos for 35 years. Not one doctor mentioned gluten or dairy. I finally found a functional doctor who has done more testing through bloodwork , Dutch test, and an allergy test than any other "doctors" have. We discussed at length my diet and I have made some serious changes. I've been on all the different types of medications and I am currently working towards getting off all medications. Not sure if it's possible but I'm over medicated by these pill pushers. I've spent a lifetime trying to understand why I can't function at full capacity.

Thank you. I just started this journey. I had a thyroidectomy on the 8th of September. The surgeon put me on levothyroxzine. I got so sick with it. My BP shot up. My stomach is a mess. I went to a NP who specializes in thyroid. She switched me to armour. I just started today. I pray this works. I've been so sick with levothyroxzine and argued with the surgeon about levothyroxzine making me sick I was afraid I had no hope. I'm changing the way I eat as my stomach is a mess. I've taken glutten and dairy out. Looking forward to watching you videos and educating nyself.

It’s so sad we are often brushed off, misunderstood and concerns often disregarded, you eventually end up asking yourself “ how the hell is this my life?” The unspoken Gut issues alone is too many to count, yet none tells you this shit before hand ,the fatigue is crippling, but yet again, no one prepares you for this struggle… smdh I’m learning to survive with dietary changes and daily exercise but it gets tiring. In what way? I ended up taking 250mcg daily of levo as my TSH wouldn't go down. They weren't testing the T4 which had ended up at twice the max normal range. Absolute scum doctors in UK. No empathy. Accused me of not taking the medication properly. So I'll be dead soon because of them. No point existing in such a world where we can't even have basic health. Told to smile while the fat cats shove another finger up our arse each year.

Thank you for sharing this video. I just discovered your channel and it has a great deal of information I may arm myself with dealing with Hashimoto's. Back in 2020, in the mist of the pandemic I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. And guess what?? The Dr prescribed Levothyroxine and said nothing more. New dr..... Levothyroxine adjustments 4 times in 5 months. I have absolutely no energy whatsoever and its getting worse at the age of 62. I found a few very good books on diet and Hashimoto's and have decided to see a nutritionist / dietitian to get to the bottom of this mess I'm in. And now the info you have provided in this video about the medicine I'm taking is getting me to think the Dr has me on the not so right past. I'm hoping that the nutritionist will help in many ways, including gluten and dairy free options. THANK YOU so much!

I was put on Levothyroxine as a young adult after being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism. After that I started noticing gradual negative changes. Major hair loss, heat intolerance, weight gain & lethargy. I had none of those issues before being on Levothyroxine. Looked into alternative RX. Tried Armor, a natural thyroid RX, but my co-pay went from $5 to several hundred, and simply couldn’t justify the natural version. Armor ought to be ashamed of their exorbitant prices. Last time I checked, there weren’t any competitors to lower the cost. It’s sad since Armor RX seemed to work almost instantly. Now back to watching this video.

I am SO glad I found you!!! I had both grave’s and Hashimotos. I also had hyperparathyroidism. They took out my thyroid and two parathyroid glands. Now my two “asleep” parathyroid glands are 5x more hyper than the ones they took out, and I cannot take the Levothyroxine makes me sick. Arm & leg pain & weakness, short of breath, EXHAUSTED. But, I sweat PROFUSELY, my face/head is HOT, RED & throbbing. My heart is racing. No caffeine at all. The Levothyroxine makes my symptoms WORSE. I am VERY HYPO with both hypo AND hyper symptoms. I’ve been passed around from different doctors for over a year. Im becoming very depressed. I’ve changed my diet, I’ve become more active, and nothing helps. This is not the life I want to live. Im starting Tirosint tomorrow. I hope it helps, because generic Armour and generic Lio both made my symptoms worse like the Levothyroxine. Im hoping it’s the additives. Im going to binge ALL your videos today. Thank you for all your wonderful information!!!

I just found your video. Did I understand that hypothyroidism is the same as Hashimotos? I jave been on levothyroxine for 20 years. But my levels keep going up and down. Owas recently changed to 100 but after testing my thyroid levels were very low. The Doc said they wanted to wait a while and recheck but I haven't been back. I have had all these issues. The mental and all the other health problems like my hair falling out, terribly dry skin, dry hair, dry eyes and I lost my teeth to dry mouth. I stay so tired all the tiy. I had no idea that it might be the Levo. Thank you so much for your video.

I have seen many folks online say they struggle with symptoms from levothyroxine and switch to Armor, etc. I have had Hashimoto's since 2002 to now, 2022, 20 years and it has worked fine for me. It stopped my hair loss, sleeping all the time, etc. But for some time I have had problems with weight control and blood glucose is running high despite being low carb since the '90's. I was even carnivore for 2 1/2 years. Right now the doctor has raised it, so will see what happens. I cut our gluten long ago, but now cut out dairy and that seems to really help. THIS IS AN UPDATE from my post below: I could barely function on Levothyroxine. I couldn’t even get out of bed on most days. I hurt from head to toe, I was depressed, I couldn’t hold a job and no one would help me. My internal medicine PA suggested TIROSINT. Within 2 weeks of starting it, my whole life changed. I felt 10-15 years younger. I had energy, I didn’t hurt, my life was back! There was a short window of adjustment because you cannot split a dose. So I take 112 mcg M-T. On Wednesday I take 137. Th-F I take 112 mcg and Sunday I take 137. Most insurances don’t cover it, but there is a manufacturer’s coupon & also GoodRx. Try it please! I’ve told others about this and they too have had the same results. It literally saved my life.

a year hahaha um I took one, I am hyper-senstive to meds I feel, haven't taken ANYTHING in my 56 yrs until recently with this stuff and stopped anything they would give me only days after cuz what? lol I'm not into it...I know some save lives, this is just for me. Diagnosed myself before this with Hashimoto's which my Doc NOW has diagnosed me with Hypothyroidism, but I seem to know more as they don't tell me much, just look at numbers - sure my TSH is 8.9 but and then I got it to 6.8 or something but my TPO in the 200s - so yeah, I feel like my Dr. "believes" in Grave's Disease but she really put up her nose to Hashimoto's weirdly. REGARDLESS of all of that, I immediately stopped gluten, refined sugar, soy, corn anything, seed oils, dairy, no grains at all...6 mos, felt a little better, definitely my mood is WAY better..numbers a bit better but still last week finally prescribed Synthroid...I took ONE. One day, within 2 hrs of taking it, sour stomach, heart palpitations, an intense sleepy feeling took me over (not just our general Hashi's fatigue) The heart thing was enough and a headache (cutting out all those foods, took away my headaches for months. One pill, back. Then I read the possible side effects? I was like nahhhh I'm out. I'm not even telling my Primary doc, she doesn't listen to me, to be very candid. I am seeing a Naturopath, functional med Doc in early Jan...very soon...I hope they will work with me on some of the ideas I have about what to do next. Sub'd cuz I like your plain way of speaking and yup. WE HAVE TO ADVOCATE for ourselves BIG TIME. I'm in Canada and yeah, treatments and brand-drugs don't cost an arm and a leg but we WAIT, AND WAIT AND WAIT for treatment AT ALL. K be well everyone! and thank you

I had gut issues and had to take supplements to absorb nutrients.. I took a lot of supplements.. plus high doses of iodine. Iodine is a detox and I’m sure it did it’s job because the faucet calmed down. But my tsh went up (was having a hard time with weight, and tired) So I started drinking apple cider vinegar.. The iodine caused high cortisol which changed my muscles to fat. Now I’m trying to change my fat to muscles. So she gave me 50 mcg of levothyroxine. I loved my hair and fingernails.. but my ankles swelled so big that they hurt. I’ve weaned myself down to 25 mcg. I take it every other day. My feet, legs, arms and hands are so cold they’re painful. I’m not going to take it anymore. I don’t care how tired I get. Well, I do but luckily I’m adhd and the aderall gives me energy. I don’t take it daily either. I’m trying to go naturally. I have iodine capsules that I only take every once in a while too. I do want to mention that I’m 67 years young and taking BHRT.. That is my lifesaver..

Been taking 300mg of over the counter dessicated beef thyroid per day for 1.5 months and not feeling much better. Will be getting thyroid tested in a week to see if the beef thyroid is helping or not otherwise will bite the bullet and see a doc and get a script for T4 and whatever else I need... Good luck.

My thyroid went hypo after I withdrew from an antidepressant and anti anxiety medication. I always had a healthy thyroid. My hypothesis is that the medication caused an HPA axis dysfunction and gut issues which in turn messed up my adrenals, thyroid and hormones. I don’t know if I should try medication in the mean time, while I fix the dysfunction and gut, to avoid the rapid weight gain (I’m already up 30 pounds and feel miserable 😅) But I’m scared I’ll become dependent for life on it. Do you know if thyroid meds cause dependency? Or can I use it and then stop using it if I get to fix my system? Thanks a lot!

I believe the same thing happened to me with medication. I think the medication (tramadol, baclofen, and gabapentin) started my vitiligo, but it was till I got the Mirena IUD, that the vitiligo started spreading more. Then, I got diagnosed with Hashimoto’s in 2014. Got rid of the IUD and all BC in 2017, and the antibodies started dropping. 2019, I started having side effects and couldn’t figure out why. March 3021, I stopped taking levothyroxine and my side effects went away. Went into Hashi remission in Sept 2021. Got a UTI on Dec 2021, and felt fatigued from taking the antibiotic. Asked for blood work, and my numbers were off again with Hashi’s. I, also, got off my all my other three meds, last month, that I had been on for 20 1/2 years. I feel fine, even, with high numbers. I do take some supplements.

Catherine, the drug options in the UK are somewhat varied from what you can get in the US. I do know that many vegans do well with Tirosint, which I believe is manufactured in Switzerland. It does not have any fillers or binders which makes it a good choice for people with gut issues. It contains levothyroxine (synthetic) but it is carefully and accurately dosed. Many of my clients found that taking Tirosint reduced symptoms and also they needed a lower dose. Are you already gluten free? Start there with your food plan. When I stopped taking cytomel my symptoms immediately improved. Drug manufacturers do not have to legally disclose whether any medications havr gluten in it or not. For this reason, many doctors and even pharmacists do not know if some medication has gluten or not. I had to do research and I found a GF alternative to cytomel. It's Liothyronine by SigmaPharm. They do disclose it is gluten free. Cytomel should not be taken by anyone who has celiac.

Im so frustrated with levothyroxine! I am listening to you and tears are rolling down my eyes. I've been taking levothyroxine for aprox. 15 months and even though the thryroid finally leveled out, I cant tell you how awful I've been feeling. Starting with weight gaining in the last 15 months (50 pounds)! On a daily basis I experience extreme muscle aches, low energy/slugish, brain fog, swelling of my hole body, including arms, wrists, ankles, bloated belly. At the end of the day I feel like I ate 1 whole pig while I eat very little. arthritis have started to creep in on my hands and feet. I dont' know what to do.! I've asked my doctor to switch me to the brand name synthroid on a trial basis to see if the sympstoms get better, also asked her to look into perhaps switching to cytomel but still waiting for a response. Thank you for your videos.

This medication really helps me, I lost a lot of weight and feel overall very good but it does make food pass through your small intestines faster so you may expereince more frequent bowels or diarreah, I'm ok with more frequent bowel movements because I loke getting it all pmout of my stomach! It works for me but it may not certainky work for you! Everyone is different.
