I find this extremely relatable, constanly trying to use the time I have investing it in entretaining activities just not to feel the empty anxiousness that comes out of inactivity. Is like im racing towards leisure to stop thinking or feeling, to deprive myself of just being. Its dufficult to take this habit into action (nowadays finding distractions is as easy as breathing) but Ill try. By the way, Im also reading Dostoyevski, its enlightening
@RCWaldun5 жыл бұрын
Getting yourself off of distractions is a gradual process; it cannot achieved in one giant leap. As a first step, just become consciously aware of the empty anxiety within you, then overtime you will start to get a sense of how to combat this anxiety. Also, Dostoyevski sure is an author that gets under you skin.

I always thought that my life was boring and maybe it is. But what I learned is that when I was saying "my life is boring" i was an outside observer of it, meaning "my life is not interesting to watch" but as soon as i became an inside observer, not seeing my life as some movie to be watched, it became quite interesting because then i could "see" my mind, that which an outside observer of your life cannot see, and turns out my mind is quite far from boring😄 (My life might be boring but I'm not bored because my mind is not boring)

It partially sounds like a Dopamine Detox, it has similar effects. Without stimulation for 24 hours, your dopamine levels heighten at smaller things (or something like that, at least.)
@sebaheuer3981 Жыл бұрын
They say (and my experience makes me agree with this) that the dopamine detox is more effective when done consistently over time rather than as a 24 hour thing. Also, you're right about the association, it is interesting how Robin didn't even mention the words "dopamine" and "detox" whilst referring to a very similar concept.

Whats the problem in not having thoughts, or goals. Life is.just a word, everything is just a word. So how can you communicate the truth in words which are just words. @@Yararar yup no matter how hard one tries, can't live a few minutes empty without any stimulation. Our whole human life is based on entertainment, how depressing.
@Yararar3 жыл бұрын
@@QuicksolutionsOnline I think you’re being quite pessimistic and extreme with your thinking. Peace and stillness is the other side of coin, which makes you appreciate fun and excitement, and vice versa. For example, after an exciting day at an amusement park with the big crazy rollercoasters which give you lots of adrenaline, you just want some peace and quiet, and that’s just as lovely. But living with only stillness would eventually grow to be boring.
@QuicksolutionsOnline3 жыл бұрын
@@Yararar Ok. We all gonna die anyway, so lets enjoy to the fullest. But what if there is no such environment for feeling happy, and not even an escape from it. Like in lockdown, being stuck at home. The desire for happiness now led to adopt bad habits and routine. Isn't peace something that should remain forever in us? If we are merely chasing it, it never stays with us. After you have enjoyed in the amusement park, after sometime you are again bored. And thus, run after another entertaining thing. This cycle of pleasure and boredom never ends throughout our lives. I'm questioning why is that so. Why on earth can't we escape from this cycle and live a new type of life. All kinda sounds philosophical and ya, theres no hope. Just left with a final conclusion, "human life is suffering, its the continued struggle for survival. Death is the ending of boredom." Being happy forever is impossible as boredom and fear exist. I may live in a wonderful place with all luxuries, but boredom will definitely arrive one day. Huh, this one was more depressing than the previous.

This is so precious, people don't really realize this but being contented of oneself is the first step of self-love. With contentment, you know your worth and you stop craving at the external things to prove your worth. With contentment, nothing is gonna take away your self-worth. And I could go on and on and on about how important self-love is in building better and lasting relationships with your loved ones and new people. I still struggle with this issue tho, but I can't wait to be free from my cravings of external validations.

I have the humble impression that deep down you may be a bit of a poet as well as a writer. The ancient Greek word for poet is: "poetees". It literally means "maker/creator". In that sense God is a poetees. I think you are content on your own because you -like many intellectual individuals- have created an inner world for yourself which begins to appear richer than the daily life around you. You probably enjoy your solitude because it allows you to observe yourself, your contemplations, your observations, your intellectual journey, your 'vita contemplativa'. Being alone allows one to be with his own self. If your own self is fun, creative, original, then being alone would naturally be quite enjoyable. This is a gift I think. But of course we all have our own infinitely rich separate experiences, funnily infinitely different yet similar...
@hanthuya24413 жыл бұрын
Well said! I miss the time when I was totally content with being alone. Evening walks at the park, checking books at the bookstores, listening to soft music, that was all I needed. Meditation was the main reason for it, for me, personally. Nowadays, I fail to do meditation regularly and start to have negative perspectives on my alone times. Now is the time to pick up the habit again. : )

Recently discovered your channel. I'm 45, and beginning to notice my own intellectual decline-- it was your videos about 'getting more out of reading' first caught my eye. I've embraced the "boring life for real happiness" since college and I can tell you from decades of experience: simplicity is king. The ability to be alone with yourself, to set aside our craving for distractions, and just quietly BE, is powerful and empowering. My life has become cluttered up in recent years, however, as my psyche has just felt assailed by the general malaise of the world... and I hope you will be pleased to know that your channel is helping me to gently run a comb through all those tangles, and find my way back to that core of simplicity, of taking time for quality and richness of experience, that is dear to my heart and fundamental to my being. Thanks for what you do, and keep up the great work. Stay boring, king.

When i started med school, even though i was stressed, i was relieved that i wasnt bored

Your life isn’t boring. That’s exactly I want to be doing on holidays. It really keeps you grounded and appreciate the simpler things in life. I ran cross country, went to school, and conversed with a small group of friends. I don’t seek thrills in the ostentatious things because soon people will get sick of those or even become less appreciative. It’s so important to keep life simple.

The cause of the hustle culture and short attention span is due to the media. Marketing through social media implemented algorithms that captivate the viewer on the website for a long time. But I think its pleasurable to just be alone with your thoughts and just enjoy learning about yourself. Then, you aren't as concerned with showing people what you're doing for validation or proof of your own success because you understand that people's approval doesn't matter. Also when you stop doing things to impress people or for public opinion you can start to just cherish what you do as precious memories with the people you love.

In terms of activities we're very similar. I start with intense outdoor exercise (running) because it's the only thing that wakes me up. I do it mainly for concentration. It allows me to give the maximum with thinking activities. Then for every hour I spend doing something with my brain, I walk for 15-30 minutes. I don't relax with TV or social media. I have to go outside and move! I think I need to have as little external stimulation as possible during a break. Also, by walking around not forcing myself to think about anything in particular, I usually think distractedly about things and that's usually when I get some really good ideas (about all kinds of things). To me this is like giving the subconscious time to work, and letting the thoughts rise out of the subconscious into the conscious brain, where I can actually grab them. Though my objective when walking is really just to have a break, and feel disconnected from everything (whilst not looking at a phone, of course!). Then I discovered the bonus of ideas seeping their way into those breaks!

Where can i find people like you around me. All i am surrounded by are the types you described early in the video. This things happened to me this week. I went to visit my friends after a long time of self analysis. Turns out they still wanna party, buy stuff to be content. It hit me that these things no longer make me happy I find em useless and of no importance. Then a thought came when and what changed in me. How can i enjoy with my friends because now our topic of interest are poles apart.it was a weird experience. Thank you for explaining.

This video reminded me of 2 quotes: "All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone." ― Blaise Pascal & "Millions long for immortality who don't know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon."-Susan Ertz

I'm not quite certain if this relates (because of my poor knowledge of the fact, but it might be insightful to someone who knows more of this), but Sartre, I believe had this sort of idea about reaching the truth of things in this world, by merely describing how they impress themselves upon the subject. In that way, even drinking a hot cup of tea, or listening to Jazz etc. could be very profound experiences. Each and every phenomenon's truth would lie in your description of them. ...And that state of focusing on each phenomenon in such detailed manner reminded me of the sense of content you are describing. In that state, every little things feels more...real, and more...impressing upon you. As if you are truly present within each and every surrounding happenings.

I just found this video and made me feel so great. Cause my whole life I've been chasing that void actually. Chasing to feel something like happiness or as you say contentment. But do I really need to chase things to be really happy? I don't think so anymore. I will definitely be trying to find out more about myself and other peoples' thoughts from books. I don't want to feel bored anymore. I don't even want to hear boring anymore. It's crazy but I hope I can be really appreciated for indulging the time by myself.

This is a very interesting topic. You're there. Nice and educational. Happiness is base from what gives you contentment. I mean you can be the richest man or woman in the world but if there's no contentment, you would always find something to be soar at and plainly ask for more, bringing no true bliss in life. Love the video and the content of it. Keep it up brother nice.

I read this quote once about an olympic gold medalist. It went something like "Excellence is really mundane, people imagine what my life is like and most of it was my routine of practice in the pool". Cheers Robin.

Its a good reminder that to have a pause in life and to soak in your true nature, because sometimes throughout the day we identify with all the stress and anger and daily things without taking a moment to process what exactly we’re doing or how we feel. And once it all soaks in, you feel more present and harmonious with connecting with the space and yourself

Contentment can be achieved regardless of your financial situation. A man can be living in harsh conditions with his family yet be the happiest man alive. Becoming that is a goal of mine. Contentment is the complete disinterest in materialism, and what life has to offer. As if you’re ready to die tomorrow, and you’d be happy, you’d be full of life! You’ve got “enough” of life. To not want anymore than you need. That is a beautiful state to be in. In Arabic its called “zohood” I beautiful word that puts that all in one meaning.
