In this video I explain why long tube turbo headers are better, tell you how I went about constructing this monstrosity that I use on my 700HP time attack car, and show you the insides.

I’d recommend T321 16 ga tube and elbows from Stainless Brothers near Austin, TX. More expensive than steel, but a lot less expensive than Inconel. I paid $30/ft T321 vs the $225/ft I also paid for 625 18 Ga., same 2.125” OD size. They have a substantial size range in 1/8” increments. It works well for rotary engine turbo setups, which run 300°+ hotter exhaust than a piston engine. It won’t crack as easy or need much if any supports. Welds as easy as T304, but obviously has to be purged.

Nice work, headers are well thought out. Very good explanation. I learned allot! Thanks

Presure droping is from air cooling your header. You only loosing power and adding turbolag

Heat shielding can fix this problem. There will still be a beneficial pressure gradient even with 100% heat retention too.

It still helps when done right because if you notice more drag cats do set ups like this long runners.

Why do you have a flat baffle collector made with straight pipes and a cuff instead of a nice merge collector made from angled, specially cut, and welded pipes that has that nifty little spike in the middle?

Amazing work so far. I am thinking of building something similar on my 5cyl engine however the car is mostly for street, so not sure how this "type" of manifold will fit into engine bay, but I love the idea of these flanges with wire, to seal perfectly and also for street car will be more suitable to have smaller dia pipe then bigger.

Also, could you please tell me what wire do you using for the flange seal?

This is interesting, since it pretty much is the exact opposite to what car manufacturers are doing. I always thought it was to minimize turbo lag, I find it now plausible that it is only for "packaging"; to keep the engine as compact as possible.

Car manufacturers aren't trying to extract every last bit of power. They're trying to meet the needs of their demographic while keeping costs low

Yep. Also short exhaust track to cats will make it easier to meet emissions requirements. Do you know how your design choices work on low rpm/exhaust flow? Have you run this on a dyno?
@RHBTurbochargers
@RHBTurbochargers 9 ай бұрын
@@White.Elemant It's been on a dyno many times. Can't speak much for low rpm performance because the engine makes no power down there because of cams, low compression, turbo etc

4:54, What are the dimensions on the wire seal? So the diameter of the wire and the depth of the groove. I'm tempted to try doing this on something I'm working on.
@RHBTurbochargers
@RHBTurbochargers Жыл бұрын
Wire diameter for the groove width, and wire diameter minus ~0.010" for the depth. Depends on the materials and how hot it gets.

this is common for o ring cylinder blocks if you wanted to know more. I know .0410 is a pretty common size for blocks. Some use stainless , some use copper wire, depends on temps and application.

Where can I buy or find those flanges you made? Do you happen to sell them?
