Japanese companies created a lot of job opportunities in Malaysia especially during 1980s. Brand names like National, Sanyo, Sharp, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, NEC, Nakamichi, Pioneer, JVC etc were seen everywhere in our daily life. Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Daihatsu, Suzuki, Isuzu, Mazda, Yamaha are so popular in Malaysia. In hospitals you will see Konica Minolta, Olympus, Fujitsu, Omron etc.

I think we should give our thanks to Tun Mahathir cause his policy "look to the east (Japan)" during his time as Prime Minister thus making Malaysia as a pro-Japan country. By that policy , most department are teach to practice a few Japanese culture and also one of big reasons why many Japanese brands and products entered Malaysia. He also believe Japanese is very polite people and produce high quality products. You should try to go to Langkawi and meet with him

@@hirona_japan That policy was implemented during around 1990s, during Tun Mahathir's reign as Malaysia's 4th prime minister. It was geared towards Japan & Korea (South part, for sure 😊). Malaysia sent many students on scholarhip to study in Japan. Later, they served either government or private sector. You can look it up in google, type 'Malaysia Mahathir look east policy'. In government departments, the concept of 5S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu & Shitsuke) was also implemented later on, gained traction even after Tun Mahathir step down in 2003. But of course we adjust that 5S phrases to suit our national language. Because we couldn't understand Japanese language. It becomes '5S= Sisih, Susun, Sapu, Seragam & Sentiasa Amal'. Japan-trained Malaysians later implemented 'Kaizen' concept in private sector, especially in manufacturing sector or some big corporations. Tun Mahathir's primary residence is not too far form your Monash Univ. 😊 He stays in Selangor too. In Seri Kembangan. If you're lucky enough, you can have a cup of tea with him at Alamanda Mall, Putrajaya. He frequented a coffee shop nearby alamanda's movie theatre. But, of course some policemen are at his company, just like with other former PMs.

For about 30 years, Japanese government has been conditiong Malaysia to become a safe / quick refuge for Japanese people to migrate to in case of war breakout (vs Russia, China, or North Korea) and to some extend, serious natural disasters. Japanese retail companies are investing heavily in Malaysia for that sole purpose. Malaysia and Japan relationships goes beyond diplomatic measures.

in 2013 I went to Manila Philippines and I found lots of Japanese staying there. I asked them why visit Philippines? Mostly, the answer is; "to study English". I wonder if there's a specific college for Japanese people in Manila? Then I realize that they're visiting Manila to practice English conversation on their short holiday. I think I understand what is going on, because most service industry (hotels etc) in Philippines speak great American (accented) English. I even made friends with a few Japanese fellow and they really shocked to find out Malaysian speak good English, and wonder if there are more Malaysian that can speak English well? My answer is; Of Course! with a smile.😊

I hope you and your friends managed to have a good time at the Bon Odori festival at the Shah Alam Stadium yesterday. It's the biggest Japanese event of the year and has been around for 42 years. If you have the chance, you should visit the Japanese School of Kuala Lumpur in Subang. I believe it is the biggest Japanese school in South East Asia. Actually, I'm glad to see that the Japanese like Malaysia so much and I believe that the Malaysians like and respect the Japanese because of how they conduct themselves in Malaysia, especially since the 1970s, when almost of the big Japanese electrical companies had factories and offices in Malaysia. However, it was not always like this. During WW2, the Japanese invaded Malaya and brutally subjugated Malayans, especially the Chinese population as they had been supporters of China during the Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945). The Chinese population of Malaya not only provided financial support for China but also many volunteers left fight in the war against the Japanese. My maternal grandmother who lived in Kuala Lumpur, faced starvation and also had friends and relatives tortured and killed by the Japanese. That left a deep hatred in her for the Japanese, and I can say that almost all the Chinese who survived the Japanese Occupation had a similar hatred. She would use to spit every time she said anything about the Japanese. And if you know Chinese custom, to spit when saying something is to curse and insult in the strongest manner possible, about what is being said. Yet, when she visited Japan in the mid-1970s, she was so impressed by the cleanliness, politeness, and good manners of the Japanese that she interacted with, especially the young Japanese then, she had a sea change about her views of the Japanese. When she came back to Malaysia, she would only curse and swear against the Japanese of her generation, those that invaded Malaya in 1942. Other than that, she had nothing but good to say about the younger Japanese generation. In her mind, she only blamed the older generation who invaded Malaya, but not their children, or grandchildren. She became a firm believer that the sins of the fathers should not be visited upon their children. She died in the late 1990s, still admiring how the modern Japanese had changed so much from those she knew during the Second World War.

Wow...i used to watch video about this same topic long time ago. That video show some crew from japan tv show interviewing a japanese living in malaysia, they ask why choose malaysia? 1) living cost is cheaper in malaysia. They said malaysia living cost is cheaper but have modern facilities compare to other cheaper country but dont have good facilities like water, electricity, transportation, medical 2) malaysia have good education system and facilities 3) this reason is same like u mention in video, malaysia is pro-japan country. Even that tv crew said they shock when they found a japan brand shop and shinto temple in malaysia.

Aside from massive arts/cultural export like games/manga/anime, being a major maker of 1 of the most essential component of modern human life - vehicle - is a huge contribution to the world's economy. As japanese students in malaysia, you should try a traditional malay _kuih_ called _buah melaka_ or _ondeh ondeh_ because in some aspects this _kuih_ resembles a japanese food, not oden that people queue up for in family mart outlets, but mochi. Yup, the somewhat sticky glutinous dough outside, the round shape, the size too almost similar... _buah melaka_ is usually light green because traditionally the dough has extracts of the fragrant _pandan_ leaves, and the ball will be rolled in the gratings of moist, creamy flesh of medium young coconut that stick on the outside. Inside there is a filling, a small cube of sweet creamy _gula melaka_ (palm sugar) that has become molten after the ball is simmered in water. I can finish 10 of these balls when they are still very warm, yummy! 😋 But... I don't recommend that you buy _buah melaka_ from the street vendors etc, they need to be homemade otherwise the dough would be dry and coarse instead of soft and moist, the filling will use _gula merah_ instead and it'll taste a bit bitter and not creamy, and the coconut gratings will be from old coconut that is coarse and dry, so forget about _buah melaka._ Hmmm... instead you should try another traditional malay _kuih_ called _lepat ubi_ or _lepat pisang,_ where _ubi_ is cassava while _pisang_ is banana, and each would be wrapped with banana leaves then steamed. But again, those sold out there are mostly below par, well below the homemade standard. So forget _lepat ubi_ and _lepat pisang_ too! Okay, why don't you try traditional malay fruits instead? Eh I mean malaysian fruits! 🤪 Yeah, try _langsat!!_ Yummy!! 😋😋

I'm malaysian, in terms of safety. Malaysia is safe, but still can't reach the Japanese safe environment yet. I was once shopping at yokohama gundam Factory, on my way back to the hotel. I enter Family Mart for quick grab of onigiri. And suddenly, I forgot my bag full of purchases of the gundam model left at the aisle. I only remembered about it when I reached the hotel hours later. I'm running back to the family mart, peoples are queueing there where my bag are left. My bag is in the exact location, safe and sound. I'm really thank you for the japanese culture. No one touch my bag even if they can easily pick up the item because it left open.

Thanks to Tun Dr Mahathir for his "Look East (Japan) Policy". He wanted Malaysian to make Japanese as our role model. Sorry to say this but if not because of this policy Malaysian especially the old folks will look at Japan as a country who invaded Tanah Melayu. Other than the policy Japanese produce too many awesome cartoons/anime during the 80-90s. Thats why many millenial adore Japanese so much but the gen z I guess more to the Koreans.

When I was studying in Japan, they didn't know much about Malaysia as well, even college-educated people. Those who know about Malaysia, usually older people who will be retiring, because they are looking for cheaper place to retire, and have cheaper medical cost than Japan. I would say, admiration of older generation towards Mahathir is also one of the factors they know about Malaysia. That time, Malaysia already top-ranked in the most favorites for Japanese retirees to choose for retirement life. But now, I would say even more and more younger Japanese know about Malaysia, thanks to various promotion and exposure of Malaysia in social media and also their TV shows. There are also many young Japanese want to work and live in Malaysia. Gackt, who also the idol for young Japanese, promoting the life in Malaysia.

this is becuase japan country is mentor country to Malaysia, they help a lot in malaysia economy and job opportunities. Malaysians also love manga and enime, and since 1980 japan already entertain much cartoon and superhero series such as ultramen, kamen rider, doraemon, sailormon, dragon ball, naruto ect. thats why japan and malaysia is so close like brothers.

Hi Hirona and Mayuko... Omedeto gozaimasu (did i said it correct?) 😅.. Hirona chan... honestly u look more Malay than a Japanese. I have a niece whose face is similar to yours... Honest 😂😂... Mayuko Chan... you look like one of my student... who is also a Malay girl. So basically u both looks like a Malay girl. Maybe bcos the varieties of people lived in Malaysia, the latest generation breed makes it looks like the whole world live in Malaysia.. haha 😂😂 I love your contents. And off course we very much welcome u to stay and live here in Malaysia... even better be a citizen of Malaysia. We are peaceful people and peaceful country. You may stay here as long as u want. 😊😊

You forget sukiya which is also a Japanese food chain anyway we appreciate Japan for sharing their technology to us without Japan we wouldn't have our own car manufacturer.

Thank you for loving our country! But there is one thing that I do not agree and it is about our public transportation! I hate the bus services here, not just in KL but the whole country 😆 trains aren't reliable too. If you experience any bad service, especially by the public bus services, please complain!! We complain all the time. I hope you guys will add to the mountains of complaints until they improve their level of service 😆😆 Oh ya, did you know there's NITORI in Malaysia too?

they might talk about Indonesia in terms of culture and as a travel destination. but to stay long term, either for work, study or retire, Malaysia is no.1 in the Japanese ranking.

Malaysia are generally pro Japanese, we adore Japanese electronics, cars, work ethics etc. We are very more than welcoming and love Japanese. But I hope young Japanese learn more and understand about history of World War 2, what were actually happened in South East Asia, what Japanese troopers had done in Malaysia. Your history lessons in school didn't taught you anything about that. Then, I believe you'll appreciate more of our good attitude towards Japanese. We forgive, but we shall not forget 💕💕💕
