Today, we're doing something a little different: analysing a character in order to understand just what makes them popular. Enjoy!

This entire review is so sweet. The thought that we, as the players, grown this deep attachment to Mikleo because we are suppose to feel the same feelings as Sorey is so beautiful and heart warming. Wonderful job!

Great analyse! I love Mikleo so much too and you explained why beautifully ! Good job ! I'm waiting your next video about Mikleo and Sorey !! Mikleo and Game Sorey are both best boys, caring and intelligent, and so pationate about history, I relate to them so much, I really like Zaveid too,he's best funny uncle I guess... Especially to see his development between Berseria and Zestiria,I feel so much for him. sorry for the bad english, it's not my first language

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed my analysis! I totally agree with you, there's something undeniably lovable about Mikleo and Sorey in the game, and I do think their passion and care is definitely part of that. Also Zaveid is so great, he's such an interesting character to think about, especially in terms of his past in Berseria as well as in Zestiria. And of course, as you said, he's also hilarious! I'm looking forward to analysing him more in detail in the future too. Thank you so much again! (And don't worry, your English is great ^^)

My personal best boy is Dezel in Zestiria and Sorey comes close as the 2nd best boy. I love how Dezel eventually opens up to Sorey and the others as their journey goes on, especially during the Wind Trial. Too bad the developers handled Dezel's character badly by killing him off before we even get to see more interactions and development of him with Sorey T.T

I'm pleasantly surprised to hear your favourite is Dezel! He really doesn't get much recognition, I think in part just because of his writing being sub-par towards the end there, but I've always thought he was an interesting and underrated character too. It would have been amazing to see him develop fully and to show how far he's come in a more climactic battle like at Glaivend Basin or against Heldalf. I agree, they definitely could have done a lot more with his relationships and interactions, especially with Sorey.

Yes, Mikleo is best boy...even for Sorey's voice actor. Sorey has eyes only for him (romantic or otherwise) and we know all too well that their "concern" for each other could get so sappy even Edna gets jealous, and Sorey does too when Edna n Mikleo had that funny "Mikleo-not-Waterboy" argument that got annoying for Sorey... on those VERY rare occasions that Sorey got annoyed. Now, my next comment would be risky, but please bear with me... For a fact, I know Alisha fans kinda blow-up that scene where Sorey blushes (the issue is old, I know) but they miss the fact that "blushing" does not suggest or even imply a "relationship." Relationships develop over time, through a sharing of personal experiences, likes and dislikes but aside from having read the Celestial Record, we don't know what Sorey n Alisha actually share "deeply enough" to develop a "deep enough liking" that can culminate in a "relationship." On hindsight, Alisha's background was not even "written" into the original story (we don't see the king or any of her siblings interact; their existence is assumed rather than apparent) and Sorey does NOT even attempt to FILL this void by being curious enough to ask. (I will skip the Alisha-Rose conflict; suffice to say, Rose has a more detailed and more developed background making it absurd to think she "stole" Alisha's time with Sorey as a diversion from the original story design... err whaaat??). Just to offer some views on the Sorey-Alisha vs. Sorey-Mikleo relationship, there were hardly any personal conversations between Sorey n Alisha (mostly focused on the battle), while on the other hand, Sorey, if you notice, always changes his body language a bit when Mikleo n he are alone... slipping closer to Mikleo while talking, even if the topic was not intimate. Body language aside, Sorey always gives the group slips of info about Mikleo... he's good at making ice cream, Mikleo stayed with him nonstop when he was sick, he had help with the sword while training with Mikleo, and he thinks Mikleo's secret training to be stronger was "sweet" (like Sorey freely assumes Mikleo was doing it for him... no wonder Mikleo told him once "get over yourself, Sorey..." ha ha...). I enjoy hearing other fans talk about these things and I do LOVE this commentary for that! Your commentaries will be a precious addition to my library. I'm a die-hard fan, I get flamed for being overexcited about these things, but I hope you understand. THANKS again!

He totally is. One of my favourite things is that both of their English VAs think Sorey and Mikleo have a thing for each other (and they're probably not wrong lol). Assuming the initial blush scene you're talking about is the one where they talk about Alisha's armour, I always assumed that was more a matter of the implication of what Lailah thought might be going on and the embarrassment of almost walking in on someone changing (which you'd feel with anyone unless you knew them intimately, which obviously they do not). Even later on, Sorey never shows romantic interest in either Alisha or Rose in my opinion, and I feel like it was stated pretty well in the game in skits after events which suggested that kind of thing. Even the game's writer said Sorey couldn't have a "normal" m/f relationship. But that aside lol, I love the little things you picked out about Sorey's behaviour around Mikleo, and vice versa. They really do have a bond like no other. Don't worry about getting over-excited - seeing your comments has really made my day! I'm happy to see other people getting so excited over a subject that I'm so interested in too! So thank you!!

Well, considering that they've been together almost since birth, there isn't a thing that Sorey and Mikleo don't know about each other. A Twitter pal of mine made a joke about Sorey being "Mikleo sexual", meaning that he has absolutely zero interest in anyone, male or female, who isn't Mikleo. I take this to mean that it wouldn't matter if Mikleo was male, female, trans, whatever. Sorey would still have eyes for him and no one else. I knew they were close in the anime but became totally convinced that there would never be anyone else for them but each other when Zaveid tried to get Sorey to go babe hunting and Sorey points to Mikleo as "the babe" :D

Can you tell me were Soreys voice actor says he think Sorey has a thing for Mikleo? =D And what do you think about the drama cds from Mikleo and Sorey? I found them pretty cute. It shows how much they care for each other and how deep their bond is

I don't know which VA (EN or JP) you're talking about, but I can confirm that Sorey's Japanese VA (Kimura Ryohei) loves Mikleo as much as Sorey do. He even fanboyed really hard when Mikleo win popularity poll in TalesFest 2017!

Seeing these set of videos on my recommended forced me to finish the game ASAP (and i just finished yesterday). There's so much to talk about when it comes to this game, in contrast to its length so either I'll be writing comments scattered on all of the videos, or they'll end up as long as this. A charming point for Mikleo imo is definitely how childish he acts in comparison to the other seraphs despite his attempts to seem mature. A skit that I think perfectly sums it up is the one late game where all of the seraphim in your party are talking in circles around him, teasing his immaturity, and Mikleo gets frustrated because he doesn't get it. It's like having parent figures who're bracing themselves for the "I told you so" after explaining that certain knowledge comes with age. Even as a seraph, he's only the same age as Sorey and lacks experience until they decide to venture out together -- and eventually when he goes to live on for hundreds of years, watching humanity evolve. Mikleo is far more sure of himself in the brief time we see him in the epilogue compared to him in his early life where he's still learning, which makes seeing him develop all the more worthwhile. Little Meebo turned into a man :') Also, your allusion to Sorey and the player does open your mind to all the possibilities and the depth, and it adds on when you see that even his Japanese VA gets overly excited that Mikleo got crowned first place, running around for 10 seconds with tears of joy. I've never seen anything more beautiful than that. And I'm glad to see there's more people who related to the scene with the dolls because I do that far too much when it comes to stories and characters and spotting so-called symbolism. But it shows that, while life is vast, a lot of it works together in ways people would be surprised make more sense than expected. It's no wonder he mentions wanting to write a book since that's what author's do, intentionally or no.

I'm glad you decided to finish the game, and flattered that it's my videos which made you want to do it! I'm looking forward to seeing your thoughts on them ^^ I totally agree, I love that skit. Things like that really put into perspective how young he is in comparison to everyone else, and how no matter how book smart he might be, he still lacks the life experience that the other seraphim have amassed over their years of existing. I'd love to see more of his development during the time between the end and the epilogue, even though I'm not sure if they'll ever add more content on. Still, the brief glimpse of him in the epilogue really is nice, it's kind of heartwarming to see how he's grown. The video of Sorey's VA at Tales of Festival is my favourite thing ever. It makes me smile to see just how happy it made him. I'm also glad there are others who like that skit! For some people (myself included) it is super easy to look deeply into things, and I agree with you that it does work together in unexpected ways! I can imagine he'd have quite a lot of symbolism to include if he ever wrote a book about their journeys with Sorey as the Shepherd. Thanks for the comment!

I come back to this vid everytime I replay ToZ and man, it really never gets old. Mikleo will always remain best boy for me, no matter what. Only Jude has come close after all these years and even then Meebo wins everytime.

Feebo Meebo is such a funny nickname for Mikleo and only our darling Edna can come up with a name so iconic and yet memorable. I really Love the Arsenic skit aka Rock You with Rose,Mikleo and Edna too. Edna's and Mikleo's comedic timings works so well together although Edna just doesn't stop at Mikleo and poor Alisha gets trolled just as much. I wonder how Eizen put up with her shenanigans.

That specific Lohgrin skit was also a personal favorite and it was interesting to see his childish side with Zaveid and Edna's teasing and his serious analytical side. This analysis really hit many of the points I've discovered and really liked about Mikleo as a character. I like to think that the seraphs and their corresponding elements mean something in regards to their personality. At one point, Lailah also pointed this out. For example, Lailah as a fire seraph and possessing a gentle and motherly warmth but also a passionate and fiery determination. With Mikleo as a water seraph, there is definitely his intelligent and rational side from water's coolness (or high heat resistance). Water generally goes with the flow of things, like taking the form of it's container or how easy it can be influenced by it's surroundings. I like to relate this to how everyone teases Mikleo and him being the butt of Edna's and Zaveid's nicknames. Sorey even pointed out how he's like that and goes along with things even if he knows he's being teased. And then the stubborn side of water. There was even one battle quote where he said "you can't go against the flow of water". This is his competitive and stubborn side. Sorry for the paragraph comment but I really enjoyed your analysis. As someone who really likes Mikleo in Zestiria, it's really nice and reassuring to see this video and someone else who really him as well.

Thanks for the comment! I love seeing others' opinions on these things. I love your point about the seraphs' personalities matching up with their elements. You already mentioned Lailah and Mikleo, but it totally works for Edna (stubborn as a rock, delicate as a flower, doesn't show her true feelings very much) and the wind boys too. Actually, thinking about it with Dezel and Zaveid becomes really interesting in that respect, since it's almost like the personalities they show on the surfaces show the two opposing sides of wind - the rough and quiet winds, and the carefree breeze. And don't worry about the length of the comment! Again, I love seeing opinions about this kind of thing. With Mikleo being one of my favourite characters too, it's really interesting to see new perspectives on him!

I also like to connect with how you have to find the little points to break a wall (not in a bad way), kinda like how there are the little points about her that gets her to smile or loosen up with the group. It's also interesting when considering water in earth erosion. Maybe Mikleo's personality is something that breaks the wall Edna sets up, and why she teases him a lot. Thank you for the reply! I never actually considered that difference in wind. Considering their relations in the game and their contrasts, it's a really interesting point!

I'm so glad someone's still making positive videos about this game. I only picked it up last year and I haven't been this obsessed with a game since I was a kid. For me, I didn't really pay much attention to Mikleo, but this video has kinda changed my mind. Though I was aware of all the qualities he had as a character, I didn't realize he had so much depth. To me, he was always overshadowed by Sorey and Rose, cuz I was most invested in those two. Guess I took him for granted till now. I'll be sure to give him more attention in next playthrough, but until then, Sorey is ultimate best boy 😤 I love him so darn much, mainly because we get to live his story from the very beginning to the very end. He's the only character we see from start to finish, with no loose ends or unknown backstory whatsoever. The rest, though very important, didn't have as much presence as Sorey. Rose is a close second cuz she was with us for a large portion of the story, even when the seraphim couldn't help. Plus she had her own independent life going on alongside Sorey, so she felt like a true companion to me. Idk but the fact that her and Sorey were the only people the rest of the world could see made me notice them more than the other characters, especially whenever they talked to Sergei 😂

Thanks!! Honestly there are so many negative reviews and videos about Zestiria that I felt it was high time a couple of positive ones were made. Also I love this game a lot, so it's great to see I'm not the only one who wanted to see more positive videos about it! It's really interesting to hear that you didn't pay much attention to Mikleo at first! I think because I see so much of him on the internet, since he's a pretty popular character, I never really thought people wouldn't think much about him. Then again, he also just immediately appealed to me before I started the game, so I'm biased to begin with ^^" Sorey honestly is one of my three top favourites as well, and Rose is an awesome character, so I can see why you're so invested in them too. I suppose having Rose run around onscreen with Sorey 90% of the time helps too, since you get more conversation out of her than a lot of the cast members. I do find it a little funny that you didn't notice the seraphim because of their invisibility when the characters are trying so hard to make them noticeable lol, but it's completely understandable too. Anyway, thanks again for this comment!

Elixir Vitae Games yeahh I've written whole essays about this game defending it against haters and musing with it's fans 😂 I love talking about it and being able to discuss it with other people because I've never seen a game quite like this one. I tend to stay away from the internet when it comes to this game usually cuz people don't have a lot of good stuff to say about it so it only makes me frustrated hahah. I'm glad there's some place where you won't have to see negativity about it because it's not anything we haven't already seen. I had a very weird relationship with Rose tbh. When I first saw alisha, I absolutely loved her, and when she left and I found out she's not coming back I was super pissed. And I got even more pissed when Rose joined as a "non replacement", so much that I hated her for taking away our waifu 101. But then the shrinechurch incident happened and my view on her completely flipped. That scene showed how much she cared about Sorey in such a short amount of time, it made her my favorite character in the game. Tbh I love their relationship ship the most because even though they weren't together for too long, they developed the same type of bond that Sorey and Mikleo had. Like damn, that last scene when Sorey seals himself and Rose is there standing on her smiling is just fjsoaohdowhdpsjsk!!! If that ain't otp material, idk what is 😂 I guess for me I was more engrossed in the lore and the characters' relationships with that lore, so I saw it from that perspective. On top of that, I completely avoided playing as the seraphim during my whole first play through because the battle system felt too overwhelming at first, although I did eventually give them a fair chance after the post game, and now I love playing as them. The same kinda thing happened with playing as Alisha in the dlc. I hated it during my first play through cuz I wasn't used to her playstyle at all, so I used Rose throughout. But when I played it the second time, I made a conscious effort to learn her style and now she's my favorite character to play as. The only character I haven't been able to connect with is Dezel, probably because we don't get to spend a lot of time with him, and his back story went completely over my head. Damn I need to pay more attention to the story and characters this time around cuz last time I was still getting used to the gameplay 😂 Anyways, I'm really glad I found your channel! Thank you for starting this thing and I hope you'll continue!!

I really enjoyed your video! I recently got Zestiria and have been enjoying it so far, and have been wondering why oh why I started to love the character of Mikleo so much. So far all I've come up with is I like pretty white-haired anime boys, I like them to be otherworldly in some way (he's a seraph with magic water powers---water being one of my favorite elements), and he is empathetic yet strong in his resolve and convictions. I had no idea there was a "best boy" contest and was surprised to hear that this character who I am growing to love so much was named best boy. But after your analysis, I suppose I shouldn't be as surprised :) Have a great day.

AHHHHHH After seeing this I really need to finish the game. It's wonderful how well handled the connection between Sorey and Mikleo was. The characters really pull out the best in each other. It's also fun seeing the mature character also be childish and learning about the world outside of his home. Wonderfully done!

Damn nice good deep and beautiful analysis you got as always 👌 I agree with most things you say, and for me personally white or light blue hair is my weakness and especially kind caring boys so for me it's defenatly 70% about looks kind of xD, but the way you explained him made me think of something he is like a combination of cheria and Hubert from tales of graces but that's just how I think idk if u have played it yet but he is similar to both.

I didn't know that I needed this Video. x3 I don't know why but when I first experienced Zestiria and quickly found out that I loved Mikleo more than the others, I kinda thought I was the only one. I thought that Mikleo is not this kind of "favorite character" that other would share with me. However, I was completely wrong! x3 And speaking of the Mikleo-Sorey relationship (aka my one and only OTP ^-^) I love to think that Sorey already knows what Mikleo feels for him and what he wants to tell him when he says that "he forgot". Because in this Zestiria side quest scene where you can get Mikleo's second Mystic Arte by going back to Elysia, when Mikleo says that he will tell Sorey if he remembers what he wanted to say, Sorey asks "for real?". To me, that seems quite odd like he already knew what he wanted to say but wants to hear him saying it. And, of course, it's very likely to believe that Mikleo plans on telling Sorey about his feelings for him but says that "he forgot" because he doesn't have the confidence to do just yet. But that's just my theory. ^-^

Hi, thank you so much for your comment! I'm really glad you enjoyed my video, it makes me happy to see your thoughts on it! Honestly I thought the same when I first played the game too. Even though I love Mikleo, I wasn't sure if he was very popular in the fandom, and I certainly didn't expect the results of the popularity poll once I heard them, and that's what really made me want to make this video - to figure out why I liked him, and why other people do, too. And considering the response people like you have given this video, it really goes to show just how much people love Mikleo! A lot of people seem to believe that's what Mikleo was going to say at that time, and I can totally see why! It's such an example of the 'aborted confession' that it makes a lot of sense. Still, knowing Bamco, I personally tried not to read too deeply into it (no matter how much I wanted to...). They're not fond of making their characters actually confess their feelings, haha ^^" Thanks again!

I think some pretty interesting characters to analyze would be Rokurou, Magilou, Edna, Sophie (If you've play Tales of Graces, idk, but she's an interesting character), or Dezel. They're some of my favorite characters and I think they deserve more spotlight (well, Edna's pretty popular, but I love her and she connects to Eizen whom is another great character).

I am so late to this video. I have played Vesperia, Zestiria, Berseria, Arise and Symphonia most recently. Zestiria was my first entry into the series. I adore Sorey and Mikleo and if we go by what the producer of the game said, Sorey was not given a female love interest on purpose. The general consensus with many is that Sorey and Mikleo are both gay. They grew up together, have the same dreams, complement each others strengths and weaknesses. Honestly, it was so refreshing to play a JRPG where there was no annoying female love interest that there was little to no chemistry with the male MC. Sorey and Mikleo are committed to each other, wholly, Mikleo in the epilogue is still exploring, waiting for Sorey to come back.....I adore the skit where Mikleo comes out the baths half dressed and Sorey calls him a babe while talking to Zaveid! Mikleo is the best boy completely. I adore him! I also love how Sorey knew Mikleo's true name....but in Berseria, a skit says that Seraph's don't give their real names unless they are say family or lovers with someone as it is so intimate for them.

I know this is an old video, but the thing you said about hiw the player sees mikleo made me realize why i always seem to like the deuteragonists more (excep in xillia, where i played as jude first and liked him more than milla)

Lol, yes Mikleo is definitely very pretty. While Sorey is masculine, robust, and handsome, Mikleo has a rather pale, delicate, feminine beauty about him. He may as well be a girl since he's even more gorgeous than a lot of female anime characters I've seen.

Recently started playing zestiria, gotta say the bromance between sorey n mikleo makes them the bestest of best boys. I like all the characters even though they can get a little naive at times. I'd say dezel was a fave, reminds me of myself in some ways and he definitely loves animals which you can glean through various skits
