I dont think a group of Spurgeon, Brodin, and Dumba, plus Cole, Addenson, and Menell would be terrible. They have the cap space now to pay Menell and Cole on probably 1 year contracts while still signing Fiala and Kaprizov. Plus, they don't lose Dumba for nothing in the expansion. I don't think Suter would have waived his no trade clause for the expansion. I hope Suter and Parise do well going forward, but I get the move right now even with the shitty cap penalties.

If it did, the conversation would have had to have come just in the past couple years. Yeo left Pittsburgh and came to Minnesota (via the Houston Aeros first) while Guerin remained in Pittsburgh. I also doubt the two talked at any length while Yeo coached in St. Louis and Guerin was an Asst GM in Pittsburgh. They likely were busy doing their own thing. On top of it, Yeo is an Asst Coach for the Flyers now. Remember Yeo got canned during the winter the year St. Louis won the Cup. If they talked it had to be after that. Plus, how much opinion do you take to heart from a guy that gets fired, the team miraculously turns things around, and then wins it all under a new coach in Berube? We all know Binnington was huge in the playoffs and he doesn't have a flattering opinion of Yeo. The way he tells it, Yeo didn't want him around and you would have never seen him again with the Blues.

You took a tangent at the end of your post, talking about the Blues. Regarding Yeo and Guerin - being members of a Stanley Cup winning team gives you a pretty strong bond. How much communication they have had since then is a question mark, but I guarantee if they’ve talked that Yeo would be truthful and candid and that Guerin would trust in his opinion.

@@brookebenatural Or perhaps he talked to Modano, who ultimately recommended Guerin's hire and also has playing connections with at Dallas. Modano has wide reaching connections throughout the NHL and certainly in Minnesota. He knows a lot of people and has talked to executives, players, and coaches.

I’m not taking sides here, but I’m just pointing out the obvious. Zach knew he wasn’t coming back. Suter didn’t. It’s mid July and training camp starts in September. Guerin admitted in another interview that as a player he got pissed off in a Starbucks drive thru when Dallas bought out his contract. My question is this…Guerin just admitted the decision on Parise and Suter was made a month ago. Why couldn’t you let the 2 guys know then? Maybe NHL rules prohibit doing business during the playoffs even if you are eliminated, but it seems a courtesy heads up would have been in order. Players accept this is a business, but it seems earlier communication would have been better. Many people have admitted this. I think Suter was starting to decline and it’s probably best to cut your losses now, but don’t be surprised if he ends up right back in the Central Division and totally shuts down the Wild when they meet. I thought Suter and Brodin were easily their best defenseman by far during the playoffs. Dumba should have been traded a while ago. I’d much rather have kept Suter and Soucy and left Dumba unprotected. DUMBa makes the most stupid, boneheaded turnovers that cost them games and did it all year. You think Suter is over the hill? They’re going to have the same headache with Spurgeon in 1-2 years along with an equally bad contract..

I would of hung up on him also. He was pissed off. He was wondering why he is being bought out. Sure was easily a top 1-2 defenseman last year. Outplayed Dumba and Spurgeon. That’s not a diva, that’s a pissed of player with many questions and didn’t want to talk.

@@KZfaq.Algorithmic.Nonsense you make some good points. Dumba looked great offensively before his pectoral injury. They must expect him to trend up going forward. With the expansion draft, he didn't want to lose Dumba for nothing, and his trade value was low bc he didn't bounce back enough this year. Other GMs that would have otherwise added him would have to protect him in the expansion draft. The cap problems will suck, but hopefully the cap goes up in 3-4 years and it won't be crippling for the team with younger players on entry level contracts playing a big role. I see the Wild using the cap room to take on a bad but expiring contract to help another team with expansion draft issues now and getting more prospects or draft picks to help bloster the pipeline.

Well, not many teams can do that and I don't know if any team has done it consistently. I hope he didn't just take us into a trend like Buffalo has had for a decade or better now. You get to a point and you can't even lure Free Agent's to your organization.
