I began on vinyl n belt driven turntables in the 90s. Then direct drive not technics then I got technics .I sold technics got cd decks and also tried a controller. Out of all the methods personally I love vinyl esp as I understood each record well untill I bought some more. vinyl mixing is the most difficult but its nothing practice for a digital DJ to transition to won't solve. Plus the sound from vinyl is much better. Thank you Jonathan your an absolute gent . I watched your tutorials way back yrs ago and it's great your still practice n enjoyin ...and sharing knowledge with your great humour.

You Are right about the pre og work, to get the records in crates according to tjene and bpm. Depending on the lenght og the dets, hours, three hours or allnighters. Was always a real pleasure sitting out on the floor with stacks of records streken all over the place sitting them out ahead of the might. And if you Are out picking, the records between ca 105 to about 117 bpm Are typically really interesting because there Are a lot of both standards, rare pearls, obscure originals and one of a Linda, just because that tempo range is not times up to any particular styles. Digital pitch fader as such is divided into increments as apposed to a technics mk2 analog fader which is infinitely incremental compared to a digital fader so in comparison to a controller they are both the same at beat matching incrementally.

Used pioneer in 1983 to 1985 approx. and it was GREAT!👍🏻🙏🏻❤️🚀🙋🏼 In those days I started using CONCORDE... and we played ALL wet... Because of several reasons... PS: AS the Club stopped - I could take a lot of my favorite records!🙏🏻 And during cleaning them all slmelln the bathroom smelled after beer and whiskey!😀.. now playing dry...

This was really informative filled in the gaps from basics that I've instinctively worked with on CDJs such as not more than +/-3% or so. I have found that I can mix all day with liquid building layers between songs and themes of lyrics and feelings, but I'm struggling with the fast paced DnB mixes that seem to be a lot of cue points and memory from what I can tell. I have been thinking of going back to basics and learning vinyl mixes instead and playing the music I really understand.

If you can beat match and hold digital pitch, you will definitely be able to beat match and hold analogue pitch. Analogue is definitely better for longer, smoother mixes. But digital is more of a challenge and harder for the fact its harder to pin point the exact pitch mark to match beats and even when you do get it flush, it will start to run off after 30 seconds to a minute.

i still put my tunes in bpm order and then later refine it with ordering it in keys.I did the same with vinyl but with keys it was mostly by ear as tunes that went well together just sounded musical to the ear but with bpm that was quite a quick thing to do .Some tunes came with the bpm printed which would save time.

2:40 it is true about the ON/OFF switch on a SL1200, but there is a nice hack for this problem. Just take off the rubber ring from the counter weight and put this over the ON/OFF switch. Problem solved.

Hello. I have a pair of PLX-1000's and I cannot for the life of me find any videos on how to clean the pitch fader on these tables or any maintenance videos on these tables at all. Anyway, if you have the time, I would really appreciate any help on this. Having a hell of a time keeping the pitch stable as of late and there is some slight drift with the strobes. I beg to differ.. I used dvj1000s cdj800s. And 1200s and 1210 mk5g. I put the pioneers on the shelf and still use my vinyl

Having the keylock option when playing time coded vinyl (I have a NI Traktor Z2) is nice but still prefer good ol' fashion vinyl. Nothing against controllers or anyone who uses them but I want nothing to do with them.

Would say the analogue pitch on the technics will always be better imo. I have a set of reloop rp8000mk 2 which are great but I still feel digital pitch is not as good.

I would be very surprised if people were not aware of keylock and the lack of on decks, or at least most. Mine for example do have keylock although I don't use it.

thats funny because i find its the other way around with most controllers using static jogs.I just never liked the feel of static jogs on cdjs or controllers though right now im using a pair of pioneer mk3s i think but as soon as i get the chance im getting some mk2 Rane twelves that have full sized spinning platters and turntables from the classic Stanton str8 range.Of course if one grew up with cdjs and controllers then vinyl may seem hard but i still like vinyl best even though i have used all kinds of gear over the years.

It's more difficult but it's not super hard. I don't even remember learning to mix, I just did it naturally. My first mixes were scratching old records in over a drum machine that I had. Did it with a belt drive that would speed up really fast after you released the record too. Learn to scratch if you want a real challenge honestly.

Noone has ever gave a damn about a record playing out of pitch, not a dj and not an audience... not until the invention of digital DJing. ...and even now I doubt anyone has ever stopped dancing and though 'This is out of key, I'm off!' So I dont know what you are talking about here mate, you seem to be perpetuating a myth. There are surviving tapes from old discos (disco era, chicago etc) and the tracks are sped up, there are old HipHop performances and the backings are playing at common tempo rather than pitch perfect, it is the same for every contempory genre... Since when has there been an issue about mixing in key? The only pre-digital DJ I have EVER heard of that mixed in key was DJ Sasha, and he was unique in that respect, noone cared. Unless you have pitch-perfect hearing you most likely wouldnt notice to begin with. But I'm sure you wouldnt say what you did without good reasons or experience so hopefully you will address this in a future video. ...Here is my alternative explanation on why you would order your records by BPM : First up it is not actually possible because it is likely that all the tracks on a record would be at different bpms to start with, however, IF you have a particular set of track you know you want to play you would order them in pitch for the simple reason that that 8% is a finite amount so you are reducing the likely hood you pick out two tracks that are so far apart in BPM that you cant mix them together. Who wants to waste prescious minutes trying to get two tracks of fit only to find the BPM difference is to wide? Noone. If the BPMs are close it is a time saver, it is less work for you. But you don't even have to do that you can just make a not (on the sleeve or the record, or attatch a sticker somewhere) of the BPM and order the records by genre or BPM, or just practice and remember which tracks work together and which dont :D Hope this doesnt come across as a diss or a rant, I just dont see why people come out with this pitch/key mixing nonsense as if it was always a thing :D

You are wrong. Pioneer bought license from Henpin chineese factory and release "turntable" with bit different case, but it's still OEM turntable llike reloop 6/7/8k, Stanton STR150, Omnitronice DD4520 and few more less popular companies like BST etc. It's 100 percent china shieet.

DO NOT BUY The Pioneer PLX-1000 - They're are riddled with feedback, tone-arm and other problems. Not just mine but thousands and thousands of disgruntled customers. So much so they nearly bankrupted BOP DJ and other big stockists. Hold onto your Technics 1200/10 MK 2's, 3's,4's or 5's. And DO NOT BUY Technics MK 7's - Just overpriced MK 2's! Technics 1200/10 MK 2-5's are not 'up to-date perfect' but they've proved their robust longevity. If you want a pair of decks with more torque and detachable phono's get the Re-Loop 7000 Mk 2's. Never the Pioneers.
