At best Naruto would have likely found Hinata's love flattering and be happy to receive it, but that doesn't mean he's lose all feelings for Sakura. Do you like every guy/girl that likes you? Sakura's emotions are very human like, she fell for sasuke young, he treated her poorly but she forgave him because of her feelings when young, but eventually as they grew up her feelings for him were complicated. Naruto, being her best friend and always there for her, eventually made her start to develop feelings for him. which was shown throughout shippuden. Getting over your first love, understanding who you are as a person is a lesson most humans struggle with. Sakura struggled with this. Naruto fell for her at the start and just being on missions together and spending almost everyday together, definitely fell for her more and more. If we only look at this as a NaruHina ship then Kishi is bad at romance but if we looked at this from NaruSaku ship, we see how good he actually can be. All the little set ups, the emotional scenes, the drama, the pain, the sacrifices they made even at the cost of eachother etc, you'd see Kishi actually did a really good job., up to the war arc. Once that hit, he just did whatever. I don't really like romance in shounen but I'll be lying if I said that NaruHina was any good.

You could argue that because of his harsh childhood, in which he was never shown any love or affection, he was unable to interpret Hinata's words as romantic love rather than the love you have for your friends.

Rewatch the movie if you wanna know. He does mention it, but since he had no way to differentiate types of love, he had no idea what she meant. He acknowledged that she loved him, she said it, but he thought she was being a good friend, like he always thought she was. Like in the chunin exams. He was skeptical of her helping him because...why would anyone help him? Then he thinks “No, Hinata isn’t like that.”

Godly thank you I have told so many people that we learn love from our parents so if we don’t have one than we can only see others love and try and guess what it is. None of Narutos generation are squad leaders. They are mid 30s with families. I say a few generations before boruto would see Narutos generation as squad leaders. Along with that Hinata is raising her children unlik most of her peers she has two children one of which seems extremely young being that himawari isn't even in the academy yet. So it's gonna be awhile before she returns to active duty, if she decides to.

To build on what Darius said, they live in pretty peaceful times. She really doesn't need to be a squad leader. It isn't like they're constantly at war with other nations. But the problem is Naruhina was never planned by Kishi believe it or not 😐 Kishi planned until the last minute for Narusaku to be endgame, he fucked up the last arc of Naruto Shippuden with the appearance of Kaguya so to control the damage he used the pairings and since Naruhina was the most popular pair he was obliged to choose that pair to "save" his series and to please the fans..Naruhina was never programmed Naruto had always feelings for Sakura through all the story Kishi always chowed us Naruto's love for Sakura even Sakura changed in a positive way for Naruto she started liking him in a different way..the story never chowed us Naruto's love for Hinata never ever the story always chowed us Narusaku the end was really bad and the pairings not really satisfied with Naruhina and Sasusaku they are forced and artificial they not correspond with the manga

You could tell they would get together one day since the chunin exams. The way he cheered for her when Hinata was fighting Neji, and when Naruto told her all his insecurities before his fight with Neji. He never told anyone his insecurities like that, but he happens to tell Hinata? Come on, that’s when you know he likes her or feels comfortable around her, but doesn’t know how to express his feelings 100%
