For the first time, the province of Nova Scotia is proposing to poison a lake to kill off an invasive species. It's a last resort to stop the spread of illegally introduced smallmouth bass.

Why would you ever poison a lake. How does that make sense.

It’s sacrificing one lake and a couple thousand fish to possibly protect hundreds of lakes and millions of fish. What’s worse, poisoning one lake or having the bass invade other waterways and cause an ecological disaster? It’d be like containing an invasive species that destroys trees by cutting a perimeter around an infected area to halt the spread, expect this in this case it’s poisoning a lake.

why don't they try to build a cofferdam where the water exits and enters into another body of water, and create a small inlet that allows fish and aquatic life to get in and get out, while also allowing them to extract the invasive species before it can further populate the area? It's kind of ridiculous to poison an entire lake, you don't know what type of lasting effect that will have on bacteria and phytoplankton and other species that live there. We don't know every single variable, environmentalists aren't mathematically inclined nor do they study the science and math of probability. This is not a good idea. Point blank. Period.

On bass only, of course but yeah. I don't see how this is a problem. The price of Bass would drop and people would be eating good until they're eventually all fished out. And did you see the "closed to fishing" sign? None of this makes any sense lol

Nature was already interrupted when some douche put the bass in there in the first place. Worst case everything dies in the lake and saves the potential destruction of the trout and salmon. It’s one small lake worth it to protect the rest of the fish. Love how so many get self righteous when they read certain stories. Meanwhile they are drinking from their plastic water bottles driving a big V8 truck they don’t need.

Gather some of each of the native species to reintroduce, then poison the lake. I sure wish they would do that here to the lakes that have had bass introduced, They eat most of the baby trout and have ruined the trout fishing in several ponds.
